Horowitz: McConnell helps Dems pass $280 billion Big Tech corporate welfare bill. Schumer betrays him in return.

Few people in America were following the passage of the $280 billion handout for huge chip manufactures and the 5G industry, but the politics surrounding the bill, as well as the bill itself, perfectly exemplify the “uniparty” dynamic. To begin with, GOP leadership had no problem with this corporate welfare bill and worked together to craft it. However, McConnell promised to hold up the bill unless the Democrats committed to forgoing budget reconciliation, a process through which they can pass liberal priorities without the need for 60 votes. Well, McConnell and 17 other Republican senators eagerly provided the votes for the “chips-plus bill,” and Schumer responded by announcing his plans to pass budget reconciliation to remake our economy!

Leftists love over-taxing and over-regulating certain businesses while granting endless corporate welfare to other industries in order to create transnational monopolies. The semiconductor and 5G industries embody everything conservatives are worried about with the corporate masters – ties to China, privacy concerns, health concerns, outsourcing American jobs, creating monopolies, and funding woke global corporations that hate our values and use the funding as well as the technology against our best interests.

In comes the “chips and science” bill (HR 4346), a $280 billion package for the science and tech cartels that includes $54 billion in five-year grants for manufacturing and design of semiconductors and 5G wireless deployment, plus $24 billion in tax credits for new semiconductor manufacturing facilities through 2026 and funding authorizations to bolster U.S. scientific research. These are some of the wokest and wealthiest companies. Intel, which aggressively lobbied for the bill, already earned $79 billion in revenue last year. Yet 17 Republicans, including Leader McConnell, joined every Democrat sans Bernie Sanders and voted for this earth-shattering and expensive bill with lightning speed.

Even if one agrees there is a need to somehow pick winners and losers, we should have at least secured provisions ensuring that China can’t steal our technology, that the jobs and supply chain remain here in the United States, and that these companies can’t promote wokeness, and we should have addressed oversight issues of privacy and health concerns with 5G. Rather than addressing the insane regulatory burden that has broken our domestic supply chains, this bill will further incentivize and invest in the current globalist system that sells out America to China. Absent large-scale policy reforms, more funding of supposed “American” tech giants is tantamount to funding China. The GOP’s answer to everything we don’t like is to add more spending to it.

To make matters worse, in the final days, the bill added hundreds of pages and hundreds of billions of dollars to fund the broken “science” agencies that should be shuttered. This includes a five-year $102 billion authorization for the National Science Foundation, Commerce Department, and National Institute of Standards and Technology to increase investments, which represents a $52 billion increase in baseline spending of these bloated and unnecessary agencies. It also includes billions of extra funding for “basic energy sciences” and “environmental sciences.” It appears that McConnell and company still “trust the science.”

In other words, even in the minority under a very radical and unpopular Democrat regime, Republicans think that the base spending bills weren’t enough and desire to increase funding for everything that is wrong with government. Republicans will wax poetic today about inflation, yet when it came to the issues that mattered – COVID, Ukraine, and now a massive Big Tech bill – they not only fail to filibuster big budget bills, but they will even vote for new massive spending bills while in the minority. At least in the past they used to be righteous in the minority and screwed conservatives only after winning elections.

Although there are some House Democrats who are at least consistent in their hate for big business and will oppose this corporate welfare, Republicans plan to supply the votes.

“A source on Capitol Hill tells me 10 Democrats are opposed to CHIPS…

But 38 House GOP plan to vote yes & put this bill over the top.

Even before the reconciliation announcement, @club4growth @Heritage_Action @FreedomWorks @AFPAction @taxreformer @NTU & others were opposed.”

This is part of a broader betrayal of passing red-flag laws, flirting with gay marriage, and passing an NDAA funding the woke and broke military that is mandating the shots on soldiers.

To add insult to injury, McConnell originally promised that if Democrats didn’t give up on plans to pass budget reconciliation, he would block passage of the chips bill. A budget reconciliation bill is the only maneuver by which Democrats could attempt to ram through a transcendent policy change without facing a filibuster, assuming they keep every Democrat senator in line. Yet McConnell then votes for the bill, and within hours of its passage yesterday, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced plans to pursue a reconciliation resolution.

After months of a stalemate with Senator Joe Manchin, Schumer announced plans to pass a $370 billion “climate and energy” bill, funding the Great Reset, three years of subsidies for the health care cartel under Obamacare, and more handouts for Big Pharma. They are calling it “the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022” because it purports to pay for the spending with tax increases, and somehow that would reduce inflation.

“Note that McConnell said he would blow up the chips bill if Dems tried to do budget reconciliation pkg for social spending plan. Chips passes. Manchin/Schumer immediately announce agreement on reconciliation measure”

Thus, when Democrats pass that bill next week and all these same McConnell Republicans vote against it, just know that McConnell gave up his leverage and is responsible for that massive tax-and-spend giveaway to woke industries because he agreed to pass another massive corporate welfare bill. Nor do they have any plans to hold up the NDAA or the fiscal year 2023 budget bill when it comes due at the end of September.

But fear not. Spend the next few months campaigning for this same party so that none other than a Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is waiting for you as the reward for your hard work.

Nick Saban’s support for the Senate filibuster was purposefully cut out of controversial letter to Joe Manchin ahead of vote

An open letter addressed to Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) from Alabama coach Nick Saban and other prominent West Virginia sports figures was edited before publication to remove a footnote clarifying that Saban does not support nuking the Senate filibuster.

Former NFL commissioner Paul Tagliabue told AL.com that the footnote was left out of the final letter with Saban's agreement after they decided it would be inappropriate.

“Coach Saban and I agreed that since the letter focused on the merits of the Freedom to Vote Act and the filibuster had not been discussed with everyone signing the letter, it was unnecessary to include the filibuster footnote in the letter to be publicly distributed,” Tagliabue said. “As a result, our press statement along with the letter released publicly did not address the filibuster issue.”

Tagliabue was a signatory on the Jan. 13 letter, joined by NBA legend Jerry West, former West Virginia University athletic director and NFL Houston Oilers player Oliver Luck, and former Buffalo Bills linebacker Darryl Talley. They had urged Manchin to support passage of the Freedom to Vote Act, a federal overhaul of U.S. elections that would override election security laws passed by Republican legislatures in several states and create federal standards for U.S. elections.

Democrats sought to change the Senate rules in order to remove the 60-vote threshold to overcome a legislative filibuster and pass their election bill. But Manchin, along with Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.), would not support any changes to the filibuster, frustrating their colleagues and stalling any piece of President Joe Biden's legislative agenda that lacks bipartisan support.

On Tuesday, CNN's Kaitlan Collins reported that Saban had initially asked to include a footnote stating his opposition to eliminating the filibuster to pass the Freedom to Vote Act.

“Coach Saban is not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster in the Senate. He believes this will destroy the checks and balances," the footnote said.

But when the letter was made public ahead of a Senate vote to end the filibuster, Saban's footnote was gone.

On the voting rights letter to Manchin that Saban & other West Virginia sports figures signed, I am told that he asked to include this footnote:
“Coach Saban is not in favor of getting rid of the filibuster in the Senate. Asked about the letter and the filibuster Tuesday, Manchin bristled at the exclusion of Saban's footnote.

“Nick Saban at the bottom of his letter -- which they didn’t put, Paul Tagliabue didn’t put what Nick Saban wrote at the bottom, his footnote, he supports the filibuster,” Manchin told reporters. “Do not get rid of the filibuster. Now why did he automatically leave that out?”

He reiterated that he supports Democratic efforts to reform elections but not by nuking the filibuster.

“Nick Saban’s letter was straight on. They all [the co-signers] want the right to vote, right? We all want the right to vote,” Manchin said Tuesday. “I think everyone — we should all support the right to vote. But not breaking the rules.”

On Thursday, after Democrats failed to kill the filibuster and pass their election bill, Manchin publicly thanked Saban, his longtime friend and supporter, for agreeing with him.

"Coach Saban is exactly right: you cannot throw the filibuster out and expect the legislative process to work better," Manchin tweeted, highlighting the footnote.

Saban's support for the Democrats' election bill drew harsh criticism from congressional Republicans, who oppose the bill.

“Nick Saban should focus on winning National Championships instead of destroying our elections,” Rep. Ralph Norman (R-S.C.) said in a since-deleted tweet.

Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) roasted Saban and the others who signed the letter in a video posted by FreedomWorks, a conservative and libertarian grassroots organization.

“They use that term on purpose, ‘voting rights,’ because who could possibly be against voting rights?” Roy said, commenting on the Democrats' bill.

“For example, allow me to quote from acclaimed election history and law experts Jerry West, Nick Saban, Paul Tagliabue, and company, quote, ‘In the last year, some 20 states have enacted dozens of laws that restrict voting access and allow local officials or state legislatures to interfere inappropriately with federal election outcomes, motivated by the unanticipated outcomes of recent close elections conducted with integrity,’ they say. ‘These state laws seek to secure partisan advantage by eliminating reliable practices with proven safeguards and substituting practices ripe for manipulation,'” he said.

“No doubt these famed election law experts spent the weekend reading the federal legislation for which they were lobbying, because, I mean, I got the 700-page bill at 11:30 last Thursday night before voting on it on Friday,” he continued.

“I assume they read it thoroughly over the weekend, as my staff stayed up into the middle of the night doing, to actually see what was in the bill. I assume, too, that they know, for example, that the bill would lead to completely outlawing or eliminating voter identification.

“Do they know that four in five Americans, 80%, support requiring voters to show photo identification in order to cast a ballot? I know my colleagues are sure fine with everybody having to show a voter identification with vax cards all across this country, including the nation’s capital. Do they know that Delaware and Connecticut require photo or non-photo ID?"

Concluding, Roy sardonically said he was "certain that they have studied the intricacies of Texas law before disparaging it."

"I’m sure they spent time looking at that. Or, say, studied the Georgia election law, at least a little better than studying the University of Georgia’s, say, defense," he added.

The Georgia Bulldogs defeated Saban's Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff National Championship earlier this month.

Rashida Tlaib caught on camera: Just wearing a mask because 'I've got a Republican tracker here'

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) was caught on camera saying that she's only masking up because she was being tailed by what she referred to as a "Republican tracker," The Washington Free Beacon reports.

What are the details?

Tlaib made the bizarre-sounding admission while talking with an attendee at a Detroit community event with Housing and Urban Development Secretary Marcia Fudge.

After the event, Tlaib was talking with a group of people when a maskless attendee approached her and mistakenly thought that Tlaib was scolding him for being "the one unmasked guy" in the surrounding area.

"Oh, no, oh, not you!" she laughingly said in the video.

She then pulled down her mask and smiled at the attendee and went on to insist, "No, no, no; I'm just wearing it because I've got a Republican tracker here."

This isn't the first time Tlaib has been in the spotlight for masking snafus.

In August, she was captured dancing while maskless during an extremely crowded, indoor wedding reception in Dearborn, Michigan, despite skyrocketing COVID-19 case counts triggered by the highly contagious Delta variant.

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Tlaib's office did not return a request for comment on the video.

Many social media users took to Twitter to express their feelings on what they believed was Tlaib's hypocritical statement.
