Gov. Abbott says Texas National Guard now has authority to arrest illegal aliens

The Texas National Guard will be granted authority to arrest illegal immigrants, according to a report from Breitbart News.

The report cited a memorandum of understanding between the state of Texas and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Under the terms of the agreement, National Guard members can arrest illegal immigrants as long as the officers are in contact with immigration officials at all times.

'Effective immediately. This boosts man power for border security.'

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) confirmed the Breitbart report on his official social media account.

"In an agreement I signed between Texas and Trump's Customs and Border Protection, the Texas National Guard is granted the power of immigration officials to make immigration arrests," wrote Abbott. "Effective immediately. This boosts man power for border security."

The MOU said that the preliminary ratio of National Guard soldiers to immigration officials was four to one. The report said 3,000 Texas Army National Guard soldiers would be added to the coalition enforcing immigration law.

A spokesperson for the American Immigration Council told the Texas Tribune that the policy would likely face challenges in court.

"It's written in a way to encompass a very broad set of immigration authorities, which means you could imagine the Texas National Guard trying itself not just to make immigration arrests or put people into immigration proceedings but to actually effectuate the full removal from the country," said police director Nayna Gupta. "This is absolutely an unprecedented invocation of authority."

Abbott was one of the governors who bused illegal aliens from his state to self-declared "sanctuary cities" like New York City. The effort forced many Democratic governors and mayors to reverse course on their opposition to deportation efforts by federal immigration officials.

Greg Abbott's statement on Texas' right to self-defense is so good, it should be framed next to 'victory or death' Alamo letter

As a border state, Texas takes the brunt of the illegal immigration crisis we’re experiencing in our country. The Biden administration, or, in the words of Sara Gonzales, the Biden “regime,” has disregarded immigration laws and welcomed millions of illegal aliens into the nation at the expense of the American people.

Back in December, Biden threatened to sue Texas if it implemented an immigration law called SB4 that would allow state and local law enforcement to arrest and prosecute those entering the country illegally.

Texas didn’t comply, choosing to exercise its Constitutional right to self-defense, and now, Biden is moving forward with the lawsuit. On Monday, the Supreme Court ruled that federal border agents be permitted to cut and remove razor wire Texas had set up to prevent illegal crossings.

The fact that the Biden administration “has the audacity to sue in this matter really should tell you what they think of you ... how they prioritize you and your safety as an American citizen,” says Sara.

In response to Biden’s unabashed breach of constitutional law, Texas Governor Greg Abbott issued a statement declaring, “Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself,” which “is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes.”

According to Jason Buttrill, Abbott’s letter is so compelling, “it should be framed right next to [Lt. Colonel William Barret Travis’ letter]” in which he vowed to fight for Texas’ sovereignty until “victory or death.”

Abbott’s statement “could be copied to every other red state ... that's sick of the bullcrap, that's sick of crime going unpunished,” Jason tells Sara, adding that they’re going to come after other rights as well, including those outlined in the First and Second Amendments.

“This is the way through ... to say that the states are sovereign. There is a federal law of the land, but if you will not enforce it, you give us no choice; we will go our own way [and] screw you if we have to.”

Sara is encouraged by Abbott’s response as well, considering thus far he’s been “weak in action at the border.”

“It’s time to fight fire with fire,” she says, and we “have the constitutional authority to do so.”

Biden admin to send migrants from the border deeper into US cities, and DHS officials jokingly call it the 'Abbott plan'

The Biden administration is planning to send migrants from the U.S.-Mexico border deeper into U.S. cities, and some officials jokingly refer to the operation as "the Abbott plan."

The report from NBC News said the administration is exploring the possibility in order to deal with the massive surge of migrant crossings at the border.

The joke from Department of Homeland Security officials refers to actions taken by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to send migrants to Washington, D.C., as a way of rebuking President Joe Biden's lax immigration policies.

The administration is reportedly going to send the migrants to cities including Los Angeles, Albuquerque, Houston, and Dallas.

Migrants who are applying for refugee status are allowed to stay in the United States while their applications are being processed. Officials expect a massive surge of migrants after Biden cancelled the "stay in Mexico" policy put in place under the Trump administration in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

A DHS spokesperson said to NBC News only that a final decision on the policy had not yet been made.

“Should a decision be made,” said the spokesperson, “DHS will continue to closely coordinate with and support cities and NGOs to facilitate the movement of any individual encountered at the Southwest border who is placed into removal proceedings pending the next steps in their immigration proceedings.”

Biden had publicly announced his goal of providing a "pathway to citizenship" for the millions of illegal aliens already in the U.S., estimated to be between 11 million and 22 million. His plan has been thwarted by the stalemate in the U.S. Senate and the cratering popularity of Democrats and their policies.

Illegal alien advocates have excoriated Biden and other Democrats for not doing enough in their estimation to secure amnesty for illegal immigrants.
