A machete-wielding male who dragged a woman down a Texas street Sunday night went after a man who told him to stop — but the Good Samaritan also had a gun on hand.
Fort Worth Police said officers were called to the 2900 block of Ross Avenue around 10:20 p.m. regarding a male with a weapon, KXAS-TV reported.
'If you see a lady that's in danger, I mean, what would you do in that situation?'
When officers arrived, they found a male with an apparent gunshot wound, the station said, adding that officers and Fort Worth firefighters provided medical care before the wounded male was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Witnesses told investigators that before the shooting, the male in question had been involved in a verbal argument with a woman that turned physical — specifically, he was "dragging the female down the street with a machete in his hand," KXAS reported.
A neighbor who heard the woman screaming came outside and saw the male dragging the woman and told him to stop, the station said.
Police were told the male with the machete approached the man confronting him, KXAS said, adding that the intervening man shot the machete-wielding male at least once.
Police said witnesses called 911, the station said.
The man who shot the machete-wielding male remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, KXAS reported, adding that homicide detectives interviewed him.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office will determine the man's identity, as well as the official cause and manner of death, the station said.
Officials did not say if the woman had been injured, KXAS said.
No arrests have been made in the case, the station added.
Nicole Flores told KXAS that the male with the machete has caused issues in the neighborhood before.
KXAS interviewed another witness who said, "If you see a lady that's in danger, I mean, what would you do in that situation?"

Memphis Police on Tuesday afternoon responded to the 6600 block of West Quailbrook Cove at the GreenBrook Apartments after a break-in and shooting, WHBQ-TV reported.
The homeowner told police he arrived at his residence just before 3:15 p.m. and saw a masked man trying to take his television from a wall, the station added.
'This is the direct result of what happens when the system to protect people fails completely. People take care of themselves. We've entered this phase.'
Police said the homeowner indicated the suspect then turned around toward him and reached into a bag, WHBQ added.
The homeowner told officers that with that, he pulled out a gun and shot the suspect twice, the station said.
In addition, the homeowner said the suspect ran from the apartment and headed west toward GreenBrook Bend, WHBQ reported.
The homeowner added to police that he fired two more shots as the suspect ran away, the station said, adding that the homeowner said the suspect fell, dropped the bag, got back up, and continued running off.
WHBQ said that when officers tried to make contact with the suspect, police said he fled on foot in the apartment complex.
Police told the station that officers conducted an extensive search and found a man injured in the 6400 block of Macon Road.
WHBQ added that the injured male was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
What's more, the station said police released to the homeowner's wife a white PlayStation 5, pink and white Jordan 1 sneakers, black and pink Jordan 1 sneakers, all-black Nike Air Max 97 sneakers, white Air Force sneakers, a black Roku controller, and a purple PlayStation controller.
WHBQ reported that the homeowner's wife said all items belonged to the couple.
Individuals commenting underneath the station's Facebook post about the incident seemed squarely behind the homeowner who fought back:

‘Shall not be infringed’ — even if you're high, Supreme Court rules
A Texas man who told federal agents he smokes marijuana every other day just walked away from the Supreme Court with his gun rights intact.
Federal agents had descended on Ali Hemani's Dallas-area home in 2022, chasing a terrorism lead that ultimately went nowhere.
‘To state the analogy is to expose its deficiency.’
What survived the raid was a confession. Hemani, who has American and Pakistani dual citizenship, surrendered his gun, showed agents the marijuana, and admitted in a voluntary interview that he used it every other day.
Texas treats simple possession as a low-level misdemeanor. Instead, federal prosecutors argued that Hemani's single admission — regular marijuana use — was enough on its own to support a felony charge carrying up to 15 years and a lifetime firearms ban.
It just collapsed at the Supreme Court.
Justice Neil Gorsuch made the gap explicit in the majority opinion: "No matter that the government did not assert Mr. Hemani was a drug addict. No matter that it did not contend his drug use had ever led him to pose a danger to himself or others."
The justices affirmed the dismissal 9-0 on the bottom line. The reasoning split 7-2.
Their holding: Charging Hemani under 18 U.S.C. §922(g)(3) — the law barring "unlawful users" of controlled substances from owning guns — violated the Second Amendment.
The government tried to justify the ban by analogy to historical "habitual drunkard" laws that once restricted gun rights for chronic alcoholics. The seven-justice majority rejected it for three reasons:
- Those laws targeted people practically incapacitated by drink. Today's law requires only that someone use drugs regularly — a much lower bar.
- They aimed to protect people and their families from ruin, not to prevent violence — the purpose the government claims here.
- They came with process — a conviction, a guardianship hearing, and a magistrate's review — before anyone lost a right. Section 922(g)(3) strips gun rights the instant someone becomes a regular user, automatically.
Handing the government that kind of unchecked power, the court warned, would risk letting it "quickly swallow" the Second Amendment.
The ruling is narrow. It leaves the law untouched for addicts, people currently intoxicated, and felons.
Two concurrences hinted at larger fights ahead.
Justice Clarence Thomas wrote that he doubts the broader gun-ban statute "could be an exercise of Congress's Commerce Clause powers as an original matter" — a favorite line for federalists, a headache for federal prosecutors.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, joined by Justice Sonia Sotomayor, called the court's current Second Amendment framework "unworkable" — though for the opposite reason than conservatives might assume. Jackson wants courts to give the government more room to regulate guns, not less.
Justice Samuel Alito, joined by Justice Elena Kagan, also wrote a separate concurring opinion.
The ruling affirms the Fifth Circuit's decision.

An intruder allegedly forced his way into a Florida home over the weekend, threatened a mother and her children, and refused to leave — but the victim also had her gun at the ready.
Investigators said Michael McDonald, 33, entered the Palm Coast home around 1:50 p.m. Sunday after opening the garage and banging on windows, WOFL-TV reported.
'I wasn't trying to kill anyone. I was trying to get him out to where my kids and I were safe in my house.'
Courtney Price told Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies that McDonald demanded money, threatened her family, and continued advancing after she warned him that she was armed, the station said.
Authorities told WOFL that Price repeatedly ordered him to leave and warned she would shoot. When McDonald continued advancing toward her, Price fired one shot, striking him in the arm, authorities told the station.
"I did what I had to do to protect my children and myself," Price told WOFL, which added that she knew McDonald through his sister.
"I panicked and got my gun," Price added to the station, "and that was my first time using it."
Price told WOFL she warned McDonald that she would shoot if he didn't leave — and she said he continued moving toward her.
"He said, 'I don't care ... shoot me,'" Price recalled to the station.
With that, she fired a single shot, WOFL said.

"I wasn't trying to kill anyone," Price told the station. "I was trying to get him out to where my kids and I were safe in my house."
McDonald fled the scene in a silver Kia SUV, and deputies later located the vehicle at AdventHealth Hospital, where they conducted a felony traffic stop and detained him, WOFL reported. McDonald was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, the station added.

Price and her children were not injured, WOFL said.
Flagler County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Joseph Barile told the station that this incident illustrates why Florida's self-defense laws exist.
"She's in her own home, and someone comes in uninvited, refuses to leave, advances toward her, is aggressive toward [her] and her kids," Barile noted to WOFL, adding that "she even goes a step further, saying she's going to shoot ... and he still doesn't leave — she had a right to defend herself, and she did."
Authorities told the station that Price acted lawfully under Florida's Stand Your Ground law and was protecting herself and her two children.
McDonald was charged with burglary with assault and was being held in custody, WOFL reported, adding that officials said the suspect has an extensive criminal history that includes grand theft and robbery offenses.

The male victim then grabbed his own gun and demanded the unknown male leave the area, police said.
The unknown male began walking away but soon turned and fired multiple rounds, striking the male victim, police said.
But the male victim returned fire, striking the unknown male, police said.
Following the exchange of gunfire, the male victim as well as the female he was with drove themselves to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
Responding officers found the other male dead in the park, police said.
Officials said investigators have identified all parties involved. At this time, the motive for the encounter remains unclear, and there is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.
Police said the investigation remains active and ongoing.
The identities of the involved parties are being withheld while detectives continue to investigate the full circumstances surrounding the incident, police said.
