'Chunk of hair' allegedly found on smashed windshield; cops say it resembles fatal hit-and-run victim's hair — and case turns

Chicago police allegedly found a "chunk of hair" embedded in the smashed windshield of a vehicle they pulled over last week — and it just so happens that officers were investigating a fatal hit-and-run in the area, CWB Chicago said.

One factor that helped turn the case toward getting solved was that police allegedly noticed that the hair in the windshield resembled the hair of the deceased 76-year-old hit-and-run victim, the outlet noted.

Tolefree was charged with failure to report a fatal accident — which is a felony.

Patrolling officers on the city's South Side found the victim lying lifeless in traffic lanes near 70th Street and Western Avenue just before 9:30 p.m. last Tuesday, CWB Chicago said.

Witnesses told officers they saw the driver of a speeding silver vehicle strike the man while traveling north on Western, the outlet said, citing a police report — and the driver kept going.

More from CWB Chicago:

About 30 minutes later, officers at the crash scene saw a silver Hyundai Santa Fe travel past them with a heavily damaged front end and a “large crack” in the windshield, the report said.

Cops tried to stop the car, but the driver took “an unusual amount of time to pull over,” according to their report. Once the driver stopped, the cops allegedly found a “chunk of hair” similar to the victim’s embedded in the windshield. They said they also noticed Svedka vodka bottles on the passenger seat and under the driver’s seat, the report said.

Arresting officers said the driver, 29-year-old Nyamca Tolefree, asked “multiple times” to lean on their squad car so she could stay upright. Their report said they could “smell a heavy odor of alcoholic beverage” on her breath and body and said she exhibited “slurred, thick tongued and stuttered speech.”

Tolefree urinated on herself while riding to the hospital in the back seat of a squad car, CPD’s arrest report said. She refused sobriety tests and made “multiple utterances” about being involved in a crash while driving, according to the report.

While police initially indicated that Tolefree faced a misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol, the outlet said prosecutors didn't end up charging her with DUI.

CWB Chicago said, however, that Tolefree was charged with failure to report a fatal accident — which is a felony. She also was cited for transporting alcohol as a driver, failure to exercise due care, and failure to reduce speed, the outlet added.

Judge Luciano Panici Jr. ordered Tolefree detained pending trial, CWB Chicago reported.

Blaze News reached out to the Cook County State's Attorney's Office for comment, particularly in regard to why Tolefree wasn't ultimately charged with DUI — and officials there responded to Blaze News on Wednesday, saying they "approved the felony charge of Leaving the Scene of a Fatality, and the misdemeanor charge filed by police was dismissed." The CCSAO added that Tolefree remains in custody at the Cook County Jail, and her next court appearance is scheduled for June 4.

"As this matter is pending litigation, we are unable to further comment," the CCSAO added to Blaze News.

Trump aims to make taking a shower great again with new executive order

Thanks to a new executive order from President Donald Trump, American showerheads are about to be unburdened by what has been.

On Wednesday, Trump issued the executive order entitled "Maintaining Acceptable Water Pressure in Showerheads." The purpose of the new EO appears to be twofold.

First, it does away with the lengthy regulations on showerheads codified during the 12 years that Barack Obama and Joe Biden occupied the Oval Office. Such regulations affected Americans' ability to use the water they already pay for, making the showering experience much less enjoyable and more expensive, all in service to a "radical green agenda," a follow-up "fact sheet" about the EO explained.

Trump joked that the inhibited waterflow from showerheads made maintaining his iconic hair more difficult. "In my case, I like to take a nice shower, take care of my beautiful hair," he said while signing the EO.

"I have to stand in the shower for 15 minutes until it gets wet. Comes out drip, drip, drip. It’s ridiculous."

The EO restores the definition of "showerhead" included in an energy law passed in 1992 under President George H.W. Bush that caps showerhead water pressure at 2.5 gallons per minute. It's time "to end the Obama-Biden war on water pressure and make America’s showers great again," the White House declared.

'President Trump is slashing red tape and ending Biden’s dumb war on things that work.'

The other key purpose of the EO appears to be to highlight the ridiculousness of government processes in general. The EO called out the "multi-thousand-word regulations" to define simple words like "showerhead."

"To the extent any definition is necessary for this common piece of hardware, the Oxford English Dictionary defines 'showerhead' in one short sentence," the EO noted.

In the EO, Trump also appears to anticipate his critics who will complain about short "notice" or demand an opportunity to weigh in on showerheads. "Notice and comment is unnecessary because I am ordering the repeal," Trump said in the EO. "The rescission shall be effective 30 days from the date of publication of the notice."

In short, the EO and the fact sheet point out just how cumbersome government intrusion can be. From showerheads and dishwashers to gas stoves and furnaces, government interference takes "perfectly fine" appliances and turns them into a "convoluted" mess.

"President Trump is slashing red tape and ending Biden’s dumb war on things that work."

'Slap in the face': Nancy Pelosi busted using shuttered salon for services despite lockdown in San Francisco

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was caught on camera Monday having her hair done in a San Francisco salon despite the fact that the city has not allowed the establishment to offer services for months due to the coronavirus restrictions, in a move the owner says is "a slap in the face."

What are the details?

Fox News reported the exclusive story, showing security footage of Pelosi traipsing through eSalon in San Francisco with wet hair — and without a mask covering her face — in violation of multiple orders put in place by the liberal city in an effort to fight COVID-19.

Salon owner Erica Kious showed Fox News a text she received from one of the stylists who rents from her on Sunday night, which read, "I'll be there at 2:45 tomorrow. Pelosi assistant just messaged me to do her hair."

Kious recalled her reaction after receiving the message, saying, "I was like, are you kidding me right now? Do I let this happen? What do I do?"

The owner noted that she "can't control" stylists' actions right now, saying they're currently not paying rent on their spots at the salon.

Sure enough, the speaker of the House was seen on the business' security footage the next day, and Kious shared it with Fox News.

"It was a slap in the face that she went in, you know, that she feels that she can just go and get her stuff done while no one else can go in, and I can't work," Kious told the outlet.

"We have been shut down for so long, not just me, but most of the small businesses and I just can't – it's a feeling – a feeling of being deflated, helpless and honestly beaten down," she continued. "I have been fighting for six months for a business that took me 12 years to build to reopen."

Kious added, "I am a single mom, I have two small children, and I have no income."

When asked for comment, Pelosi spokesman Drew Hammill denied that the speaker broke any rules despite the camera footage, saying, "The speaker always wears a mask and complies with local COVID requirements."

How are people reacting?

Conservatives on Twitter reacted with fury over the speaker's apparent hypocrisy.

Former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell tweeted, "The people must wear a mask in California. The people can't go to the gym. The people can't go to just any salon. But if you know @GavinNewsom you can."

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R) wrote, "Funny how Dems make harsh rules for others but they are too important to follow them-joining Philly Mayor, DeBlabbio, Lori Lightfoot, now Pelosi joins the club. Pass the high-dollar ice cream, Nancy! Oh, it's not for the 'little people.'"

Guy Benson, political editor of Townhall wrote, "Once again, the rules are for the little people. I'm sure @SpeakerPelosi was getting her unlawful blowout "for the children," or whatever. Sorry, suffering salon owners and barbers!"
