California 'momfluencer' convicted for making up fake kidnapping story against Latino couple

A California "momfluencer" was convicted for making up a fake kidnapping story against a Latino couple. The couple claimed that the false allegations were racially motivated.

Katie Sorensen, 31, was found guilty of one count of making a false report of a crime, the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office said on Thursday. Sorensen was taken into custody on $100,000 bail.

District Attorney Rodriguez stated, “This verdict will enable us to hold Ms. Sorensen accountable for her crime, while at the same time helping to exonerate the couple that was falsely accused of having attempted to kidnap two young children. The case is also important in that it illustrates the importance of using social media responsibly.”

In December 2020, Sorensen claimed that a man and woman attempted to kidnap her two children in the parking lot of a Michaels craft store in Petaluma, a city roughly 40 miles north of San Francisco. She reported the alleged crime to the Petaluma Police Department.

About a week later, the mom influencer posted a video on social media talking about the alleged kidnapping attempt. The Instagram video regarding the alleged child abduction attempt went viral, quickly racking up more than 4 million views. Sorensen has since deleted her Instagram account, which had nearly 60,000 followers.

"My children were the targets of an attempted kidnapping,” Sorensen said at the time. "I want to share that story with you in an effort as to what signs to look for and encourage parents to be more aware of their surroundings and what is going on around them."

Sorensen also appeared on a local news program to discuss the alleged kidnapping attempt.

Sorensen fingered Sadie and Eddie Martinez in the alleged kidnapping attempt. The social media influencer claimed that she was "paralyzed with fear" when the couple allegedly attempted to kidnap her children. The couple was at Michaels purchasing a decorative baby Jesus.

The couple denied the California woman's accusations.

NBC News reported, "Sorensen, who described herself on social media as a 'mom influencer,' said the couple gave her the 'heebie-jeebies' and 'weren’t clean-cut individuals.'"

However, police determined that Sorensen fabricated the fake kidnapping attempt.

"Officers from the Petaluma Police Department followed up with Ms. Sorensen," the Sonoma County District Attorney's Office declared in a statement. "During that interview, Ms. Sorensen identified a Petaluma couple from Michael’s store video as being the perpetrators. Ms. Sorensen’s report was determined to be false and was resoundingly contradicted by the accused couple as well as store video that was obtained."

Sorensen "produced no evidence" to support her allegations, police said.

Sadie and Eddie Martinez told the Petaluma Argus-Courier that the kidnapping accusations made against them were racially motivated.

Sadie asked, "Do you really think it’s OK to go online and be racist and make stories about a family?"

Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez said in a statement, "This verdict will enable us to hold Ms. Sorensen accountable for her crime, while at the same time helping to exonerate the couple that was falsely accused of having attempted to kidnap two young children. The case is also important in that it illustrates the importance of using social media responsibly."

Sorensen faces a maximum sentence of six months in jail.

Rand Paul staffer has been saying 'the joy of the Lord is my strength,' is expected to recover after being attacked

Sen. Rand Paul's staffer, Phillip Todd, who was recently attacked in Washington D.C. by an individual who had just been released from prison, is expected to recover, according to a statement from his parents.

"He was randomly and brutally attacked by a person armed with a knife, who, according to the police report, attempted to kill him. The intervention of our son's friend helped prevent the wounds from being fatal," his parents noted.

"Our son is in a stable condition, having undergone trauma surgery to address the wounds in his body. He also has a fracture on his skull, which will be treated with non-invasive neurosurgery. He is expected to make a full recovery due to his young age and good health," they said. "Our son and our family draw strength from our faith to see us through this challenging time. Phillip is conscious and alert and has repeatedly stated, 'the joy of the Lord is my strength.' (Nehemiah 8:10)."

His parents also noted that the senator and the senator's chief of staff had made "a personal visit to encourage Phillip."

Black Panthers-linked Marxist professor just found out that she is the descendant of a slave owner and a Mayflower settler — and can't handle the news

Angela Davis is a Marxist University of California professor who won the Soviet Union's Lenin Peace Prize and was once accused of supplying weapons to a black supremacist who went on to murder Superior Court Judge Harold Haley and two inmates.

The 79-year-old identitarian, one of the founders of critical race theory and a former Black Panther, was shocked to learn on Tuesday's episode of PBS' "Finding Your Roots" that she is the descendant of a slave owner as well as of one of America's first settlers.

Henry Louis Gates Jr., the host of the documentary television series that explores guests' genealogies, provided the geriatric communist with a list of the passengers on the Mayflower. Among the 101 people aboard the ship that sailed to the colonies in 1620 was one of Davis' ancestors, William Brewster.

Davis appeared unwilling to process the information, saying, "No, I can't believe this. No! My ancestors did not come here on the Mayflower. ... No. No, no, no, no. ... Oof. That's a little bit too much."

Gates interrupted Davis' protest to ask, "Did you ever in your wildest dreams think that you may have descended from people who laid the foundation for this country?"

Davis previously suggested that "racism is embedded in the fabric of this country."

"Never. Never. Never. Never," Davis told Gates.

According to Gates, on her mother's side, Davis descends from a Revolutionary War soldier, Stephen Darden, who was a drummer for the 4th Virginia regiment in the 1770s. Darden reportedly moved to Georgia and became a slave owner.

Gates indicated that Davis' father, Benjamin Frank Davis, was aware that his father was a white man, Murphy Jones. Jones and Davis' paternal grandmother, Mollie Spencer — who was born into slavery in 1824 on a Marengo County cotton plantation — had as many as four children together.

Davis, originally from Birmingham, Alabama, said, "I always imagined my ancestors as the people who were enslaved. My mind and my heart are swirling with all of these contradictory emotions."

Some of the contradictory emotions may have been the result of the decades she has spent engaged in leftist and racial activism.

The Bulwark reported that the woke academic and Israel critic revealed by PBS to be the descendant of a slave owner was not only formerly a member of the violent Black Panther Party and a student of the totalitarian professor Herbert Marcuse, but a leader of the American Communist Party.

In response to Alan Dershowitz's request to support political prisoners of the communists in the Eastern bloc, Davis allegedly responded that "they are all Zionist fascists and opponents of socialism."

Russian writer Vitaly Korotich reportedly suggested that Davis, called a "dangerous terrorist" by former President Richard Nixon, had ultimately served as "a useful tool for the Brezhnev government, used to bolster Communist ideals and speak out against the West during the Cold War."

The Marxist professor continued criticizing the United States long after the Cold War ended, stating in a 2017 speech, "This is a country anchored in slavery and colonialism, which means for better or for worse the very history of the United States is a history of immigration and enslavement."

Upon learning of her family's history, Davis told Gates, "I'm glad on the one hand that we've begun to solve this mystery. We have something that we didn't have before. But at the same time I think it makes me even more connected to struggling for a better world."

Michael Young, a visiting fellow at the Center for Renewing America, noted on Twitter that while shocking to Davis, the revelations about her past revealed "that even the most hardened and radical woke activists have a history that is far more complicated then their own ideology allows for. Davis is (by her own standard) a colonizer, and (by her own standard) an oppressed minority."

"The important insight is that Angela Davis' own life is proof that the history of Americans does not fit into the intersectional categories of race and gender woke activists want to sort people into," said Young, adding, "Wokeness wants to divide us into oppressor and oppressed according to our ancestry, or skin color, or other qualities. But Angela Davis [sic] own life shows that the world is far to complicated for that, and none of our bloodlines are exempt from the sins of history."

'A realistic simulator where Mark Kelly destroys the things you love': Blake Masters' campaign releases space-themed game criticizing Dem opponent's 'failures'

With only one week until Election Day, Arizona Republican senatorial candidate Blake Masters released a "realist simulator" game spotlighting the alleged failures of Democrat opponent Mark Kelly's political career, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

The space-themed game pokes fun at Kelly's former NASA career by placing the player inside a spaceship with an animated depiction of the senator.

The game is called "Mr. Spaceman: A realistic simulator where Mark Kelly destroys the things you love." The game's objective is to demolish oncoming objects by clicking on them, but each object represents something Arizonans value that Kelly's policies have allegedly destroyed.

“This is incredible from Blake Masters (@bgmasters) campaign. Click the link and play the game: https://t.co/CdGIm9CJqD”
— Henry Rodgers (@Henry Rodgers) 1667415985

The approaching objects that players must destroy are the "nuclear family," "your savings," "public order," "your 401K," "God-given rights," "border security," "small business," "parental rights," and "rule of law."

Each time an object is successfully annihilated, the game's depiction of Kelly comments on the player's progress.

For example, after the player destroys the oncoming "public order" graphic, Kelly's character mentions an anti-police comment made by one of his campaign staffers.

The comment refers to a post by Kelly's campaign deputy press secretary, T.J. L'Heureux. The staffer replied to a Twitter post by the Chicago Police Department by calling them "worthless f***ing pigs."

In Masters' game, when a player destroys the "God-given rights" object, Kelly's character replies, "I lied on my ATF form (look it up)."

That remark refers to when Kelly attempted to purchase a rifle in 2013 following the assassination attempt on his wife, former Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona. Kelly intended to demonstrate to the public that it is too easy to legally obtain a firearm.

However, the owner of the gun store where Kelly attempted to make the purchase refused to proceed with the sale and provided a refund. Some have alleged that, since Kelly was denied, he must have lied on Federal Form 4473, legally required to purchase a firearm.

The gun store owner released a statement on Facebook noting that Kelly was denied before filling out the form because his "intent" for purchasing the rifle was "for reasons other than for his personal use."

Masters' game criticizing Kelly's political policies always ends with the player losing. A message on the screen reads, "Game Over: You ran out of gas and have no money to refuel your tank" – a reference to high gas prices and inflation.

Players are then directed to a website titled "Mission Failure," where Masters' campaign lists criticism of Kelly's political career.

Arizona's Libertarian candidate, Marc Victor, dropped out of the race on Tuesday and endorsed Masters.

RealClearPolitics reported that the race between Blake Masters and Mark Kelly is currently a "toss up."

Kelly's campaign did not respond to a request for comment, the Daily Caller News Foundation reported.

New York state court strikes down New York City's noncitizen voting law

A New York court struck down New York City's noncitizen voting law Monday, ruling that the law violated the state's constitution and state election laws.

In a 13-page opinion obtained by the Daily Caller's Henry Rodgers, the New York Supreme Court for Richmond County ruled against Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Council, declaring that a law permitting noncitizen lawful permanent residents and green card holders to vote in municipal elections was illegal.

"The New York State Constitution explicitly lays the foundation for ascertaining that only proper citizens retain the right to voter privileges," Judge Ralph J. Rorzio wrote. "It is this Court's belief that by not expressly including non-citizens in the New York State Constitution, it was the intent of the framers for non-citizens to be omitted."

"Based upon the foregoing analysis, the Court finds that the Municipal Voting Law explicitly violates the New York State Constitution, as only 'citizens' may vote in elections," the judge ruled.

Last December, the New York City Council passed a law extending the right to vote in local elections to noncitizen immigrants who live, work, and pay taxes in New York City. Democratic state officials and immigration activists celebrated the law, which was expected to enfranchise more than 800,000 new voters beginning in 2023.

But the Republican National Committee and state GOP officials challenged the law on the grounds that it violated the state's constitution, as well as state election law and New York's Municipal Home Rule Law.

Rorzio's opinion agreed with the RNC's claims and declared the noncitizen voting law null and void.

"The Municipal Voting Law is 'impermissible simply and solely for the reason that the Constitution says that it cannot be done,'" Rorzio wrote.

"The New York State Constitution expressly states that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections. The New York State Election Law reaffirms that citizens meeting the age and residency requirements are entitled to register and vote in elections. There is no statutory ability for the City of New York to issue inconsistent laws permitting non-citizens to vote and exceed the authority granted to it by the New York State Constitution."

The decision was welcomed by Republican Party of New York chairman Nick Langworthy.

"This is another victory for citizen rights, election integrity, and the rule of law. The judge affirmed that this brazen attempt to give voting rights to non-citizens is in direct violation of the law and a common-sense reading of the Constitution," Langworthy said in a statement.

In New York, the state "supreme court" is the trial-level court, which means New York City may still attempt to appeal this decision all the way up to the New York Court of Appeals, the highest court.

A spokesman for the mayor's office told the New York Times that city officials are "evaluating next steps" after the supreme court's ruling.

Video shows frustrated Target shopper stepping in to stop thief, rip bin from his hands: 'Stop that s**t, man! Get a f***ing job!'

Police in Colma, California, announced this week that they have arrested and charged the brazen shoplifter who was seen being confronted by a shopper in a video that has circulated on social media since last month.

The dramatic video shows the reported thief, 28-year-old Samuel Balcorta of San Francisco, shamelessly carrying a bin of stolen items through the exit doors of a Bay Area Target on March 16, when suddenly an unarmed shopper approaches him and rips the bin from his hands.

The unidentified Target shopper, evidently fed up with rampant crime in the area, then yelled at Balcorta, a repeat offender, to stop what he was doing.

"Stop that s**t, man! Get a f***ing job!" he can be heard shouting at the thief.

Meanwhile, the person allegedly recording the video helplessly claimed, "They can't do nothing."

The random shopper's actions perfectly encapsulate the sentiment that many Americans have undoubtedly felt amid the country's ongoing crime wave. That is, frustration upon witnessing shoplifters and other opportunistic criminals carrying out lawless deeds with little consequence in Democratic-controlled jurisdictions.

But in a tweet thread posted Monday, the Colma Police Department shared that the brave citizen's actions were not fruitless. In fact, after confronting the thief, the shopper alerted police, leading to Balcorta's arrest.

It was later revealed that Balcorta was out on bail for a prior felony charge.

"The person seen confronting the suspect was not a store employee. He was a citizen shopping at the store who intervened because, as he told the officers, he was frustrated with the increase in thefts," the department wrote.

"He called police and we responded," the post continued, adding that Balcorta was arrested and booked on burglary and grand theft charges as well as an additional felony charge for committing a felony while out on bail.

In subsequent tweets, the department chided the videographer's reaction to the crime, saying, "Unlike the videographer’s belief that we 'can’t do anything,' we can and will respond."

Police added that they understand the citizen's "frustration" with out-of-control crime but warned against taking similar action, noting that intervening in a crime-in-progress can be dangerous.

"The suspects in these thefts are often repeat offenders, some who carry weapons, are part of an organized retail theft crew, and/or have ties to violent gangs," the department said. "While we appreciate the assistance, we want you to maintain your safety and be the best witness you can for us."

J.D. Vance and Mike Gibbons exchange blows over abortion as the Ohio Senate primary intensifies

The Ohio GOP Senate primary continues to intensify as J.D. Vance’s campaign attacked Mike Gibbons as “squishy,” Fox News reported.

An article published by the Associated Press in 2017, when Mr. Gibbons last ran for the United States Senate, indicated that Gibbons might not be as staunchly pro-life as his campaign at the time indicated. The Associated Press reported that Gibbons said he “personally opposes abortion, but politically, he’s ‘not a woman’ so wouldn’t choose for them. He said he wasn’t ‘pro-choice,’ though, but ‘pro-people.’”

On Thursday, Vance raked Gibbons over the coals for his ostensible lack of commitment to the pro-life movement during a town hall event.

Vance said, “If you’re not willing to stand up for unborn babies in this country, then what else are you going to cut tail and run on when the going gets tough. If you’re not willing to stand on that issue, I think it indicates your character is weak, and you don’t have the fortitude to actually serve the interests of our voters.”

Noting that he was proud to be outspoken in support of the pro-life movement, Vance continued, “I’ve had the left attack me for a long time for having the courage of my convictions. And, you know what, when Mike Gibbons, they asked him whether he was pro-life, he said, no I wouldn’t call myself pro-life I think ultimately it should go to the woman’s choice.”

Condemning Gibbons’ apparent noncommitment to the pro-life cause, Vance added that his unclear stance “is the language of pro-abortion.”

OH SENATE: @JDVance1 rips fellow candidate @MikeGibbonsOH at a Townhall yesterday for comments Gibbons made in 2018 where he rejected the pro-life label, in favor of calling himself "pro-people" & said that since he's "not a woman," he can’t make the choice on abortion for them.pic.twitter.com/mg6XWwl2xz
— Henry Rodgers (@Henry Rodgers) 1645199685

Responding on Twitter, Mike Gibbon’s spokeswoman Samantha Cotten said that Vance “is lying, and he knows it.”

She added that it was “sad that he has resorted to pushing fake news.”

.@JDVance1 is lying and he knows it. Sad that he has resorted to pushing fake news. Mike Gibbons is and has always been 100% pro-life. He's been active with crisis pregnancy centers and pro-life causes for decades.https://twitter.com/JDVance1/status/1494704525059502086 …
— Samantha Cotten (@Samantha Cotten) 1645200707

Ms. Cotten told TheBlaze that “Mike Gibbons is 100% pro-life. This spin was debunked in the 2018 election cycle. This attack is a desperate attempt by JD Vance to deflect the narrative away from his sinking campaign and his past comments attacking President Trump.”

The Vance Campaign’s press secretary, Taylor Van Kirk, told TheBlaze that “Using pro-abortion language and being squishy on the issue tells conservatives who you really are. Trying to walk it back after you realize its political weakness makes you a coward. JD is proud to be 100% pro-life and will fight to end abortion in America.”

Recent polling indicates that Vance and Gibbons are within striking distance of each other.

Virginia reaches deal to transfer Richmond Confederate monuments to Black History Museum

A deal has been reached between Virginia officials and the city of Richmond to transfer ownership of Confederate monuments to the Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia.

Gov. Ralph Northam (D) and Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney announced the agreement on Thursday, stating in a press release that a towering statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee and its 40-foot tall pedestal will be among the removed monuments transferred to the museum. Work is still underway to remove the pedestal, which is now covered in graffiti and other "Black Lives Matter" protest art, the release stated.

MORE: Official release is out from @CityRichmondVA with details. @NBC12pic.twitter.com/pa5OsNNju0
— Henry Graff (@Henry Graff) 1640872898

Officials said the Black History Museum will partner with the Valentine museum of Richmond and other local cultural institutions to "determine the proper future use of each piece in the collection."

"Symbols matter, and for too long, Virginia's most prominent symbols celebrated our country's tragic division and the side that fought to keep alive the institution of slavery by any means possible," Northam said. "Now it will be up to our thoughtful museums, informed by the people of Virginia, to determine the future of these artifacts, including the base of the Lee Monument which has taken on special significance as protest art."

The Richmond City Council must approve the agreement before it is finalized. Mayor Stoney said he would seek the council's support in January to accept the Lee monument from the state government and transfer ownership of the property over to the Black History Museum, along with the other city-owned Confederate monuments.

"Entrusting the future of these monuments an dpedestals to two of our most respected institutions is the right thing to do," Stoney said. "They will take the time that is necessary to properly engage the public and ensure the thoughtful future uses of these artifacts."

The complete list of Confederate monuments being transferred includes monuments to Robert E. Lee, J.E.B. Stuart, Stonewall Jackson, Jefferson Davis, Matthew Fontaine Maury, Josephy Bryan, Fitzhugh Lee, Confederate Soldier and Sailors, and ceremonial cannon.

The city's Confederate monuments were removed last summer after Stoney issued an order to do so, during Black Lives Matter protests over the police killing of George Floyd.

According to the Associated Press, the statues have been held in storage since they were removed, spending at least part of the time at the city's wastewater plant.

The Lee statute was located on state property and legal issues prevented Northam from having it removed until last September. Work to begin removing its 40-foot pedestal began earlier this month.

Duke basketball season over after one positive COVID-19 test, ending team's 24-year NCAA tournament streak

The Duke men's basketball season is over after the Blue Devils' were pulled from their next Atlantic Coast Conference tournament game after a single member of the team tested positive for the coronavirus. The single positive COVID-19 test also ends an impressive streak for legendary Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.

Duke announced Thursday that a member of the program's Tier 1 personnel tested positive for the coronavirus after Wednesday's game, where the No. 10 seed Blue Devils defeated No. 7 seed Louisville 70-56 in the ACC tournament. The team did not reveal the identity of the member who tested positive.

Duke (13-11) was slated to play Florida State (15-5) on Thursday in the ACC tournament quarterfinals.

The NCAA's health and safety protocols for the men's basketball tournament in Indianapolis require seven consecutive negative COVID-19 tests.

Current and former Duke basketball players reacted to the "heartbreaking" news.

While our season was different than any other that I can remember, I loved the 2020-21 Duke Basketball team and was honored to be their coach. We have not asked more of any team in our history, and they deserve enormous credit for handling everything like the outstanding young men they are. I am extremely proud of their collective attitudes and effort, which could not have been stronger. We are disappointed we cannot keep fighting together as a group after two outstanding days in Greensboro. Duke athletic director Kevin White also commented on the situation:

Unfortunately, after going an entire season with no positive COVID-19 tests among our men's basketball student-athletes and coaching staff, one member of our program tested positive following Wednesday's ACC Tournament game in Greensboro. After working with our medical professionals and following Duke and ACC Medical Advisory Group health, safety, and contact tracing protocols, the student-athletes on our team are now in quarantine. Since last March when the pandemic started, we have listened to our medical experts and always put safety at the forefront of any determinations regarding competition. As a result, this will end our 2020-21 season. We wish every team still playing college basketball good health and the very best during the next few weeks.

With Duke's season over, it also ended the Blue Devils' 24-year streak of reaching the NCAA tournament, the third-longest streak of all-time.

BLM and anarchist groups call to 'burn it down,' berate Biden supporters: 'You are a bunch of fools!'

While there were massive celebrations across the country after several news outlets declared Joe Biden the winner of the 2020 presidential election, there were also groups marching against President Donald Trump and in opposition to the reported president-elect.

There were large crowds of Biden supporters partying at the Black Lives Matter Plaza in Washington, D.C., on Saturday. There were also other groups who were not in as much of a festive mood.

There was a crew of black-clad demonstrators, many holding umbrellas, marching towards Black Lives Matter Plaza. They held a large sign that read: "FREE THE PEOPLE, FIGHT THE POWER, F*** THE POLICE – DEFUND, DISARM, DISBAND." Another sign said: "BURN DOWN THE AMERICAN PLANTATION."

The group chanted: "What do we want? Justice When do we want it? Now! If we don't get it — Burn it down! BURN. IT. DOWN!"

The mob chanted: "F*** Trump! F*** Biden! No more presidents!"

The "They/Them Collective," a self-described "anarchist abolitionist collective house based in DC occupied Piscataway land here for queer, trans, black, brown and indigenous liberation," marched near the White House, according to photojournalist Ford Fischer.

The group demanded that the Biden supporters raise their fists in solidarity, and those who did not would be labeled as "ignorant," "complacent," and "just as racist as police officers that are killing black people." Most raised their hands.

"Just because Biden is in office, does not mean that our struggle is over," the group chanted. "Just because Biden is in office, does not mean that you will be walking on sunshine."

"For all of you f***ing journalists, for all of you white liberals, who have been celebrating, getting drunk off your a**es about Biden winning this election, you are all a bunch of f***ing fools," the group scolded Biden supporters.
