Shocking video: Standoff between police and escaped convict with hostages at Victoria's Secret in Miami ends with cops fatally shooting perp

Shocking video shows a harrowing situation when a man took hostages at knifepoint at a Victoria's Secret store in Miami Beach on Thursday. The nail-biting standoff ended with police fatally shooting the perp.

An escaped convict from New Hampshire took hostages at a Victoria's Secret store in Miami Beach, Florida.

Darien Young, 29, escaped from the minimum-security Calumet House Transitional Housing Unit near Concord, New Hampshire, on July 21, according to the New Hampshire Department of Corrections.

Young had been suspected of shoplifting at the lingerie store on Lincoln Road, WPLG reported.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Young took a mother and daughter hostage at knifepoint at the Victoria's Secret store.

Officers with the Miami Beach Police Department responded to the hostage situation.

Young is seen on gripping video behind the store's checkout counter during the standoff clutching the neck of one of the hostages. The daughter is seen with her hands folded, seemingly in prayer.

A witness told WPLG that Young repeatedly shouted, "I'm gonna kill her, I’m gonna kill her, don’t make me hurt her don’t make me hurt her."

The police officer is heard telling the escaped convict, "Put it down man, please put it down."

Police shot the hostage-taker, who was then transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Young was in critical condition at the hospital's trauma unit, but reportedly died several hours later.

The Miami Beach Police Department said in a statement, "The two victims are safe and speaking with detectives."

None of the witnesses, police, or Victoria's Secret employees were harmed during the hostage situation and shooting.

The Miami Beach Police Department said the fatal officer-involved shooting will be investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

In New Hampshire, Young had been imprisoned for receiving stolen property, burglary, falsifying physical evidence, and drug charges. Officials from the New Hampshire Department of Corrections said Young was eligible for parole on July 31, with a maximum release date of Jan. 31, 2028.

Authorities said it was unclear why Young made the 1,500-mile journey from Concord, New Hampshire, to Miami Beach, Florida.

Hostage saved after police blow away machete-wielding suspect

North Miami Beach Police officers took decisive action Thursday, sparing a hostage from a potential beheading.

The officer-involved shooting took place just before 2 p.m. on March 16, near Northeast 2nd Avenue in North Miami.

Edridge Alexis, 38, allegedly threatened his family with a machete, then made his way into a medical office building, where he took a woman hostage, reported the Miami Herald.

Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of a man wielding a large knife near Alexis' home.

According to NMBP Chief Harvette Smith, officers first attempted nonlethal means to defuse the situation, imploring Alexis to drop the weapon. After the suspect threatened his own life with the blade, officers reportedly tased him; however, this proved to only enrage him further.

Alexis reportedly ran into a nearby medical office building armed with the machete.

Inside, the suspect allegedly tried to break down several locked doors, prompting health care providers in one instance to barricade an entryway. Having failed to gain entry to the medical offices, Alexis allegedly took a woman in the lobby hostage.

Again police ordered the suspect to drop his weapon, and again he refused.

"The machete [was] pointed at her neck in an attempt to kill her," said Smith.

With the blade so near the victim's throat, police weren't going to take any more chances.

Smith said, "At that point, our officers again gave commands for the subject to drop the knife. The subject refused to drop the knife at that point, making my officers [resort] to using deadly force to save a life."

Police indicated that three shots were fired in total, killing Alexis, saving the woman's life, and restoring order.

The suspect's family members expressed disbelief that Alexis would threaten multiple lives including that of an innocent woman, reported WPLG.

"They can’t tell me, like, 'hey, he got a machete, he trying to cut somebody’s throat,' nah, he ain’t like that," said Wilkenson Alexis, the suspect's brother. "They’re lying. Just be real about [it] ... say you killed someone."

Alexis had previously been charged for various crimes in Miami-Dade County over the years, including trespassing, assault, armed robbery, burglary, battery, driving with a suspended license, resisting arrest, and disorderly conduct. He spent the past year in jail and was released in early February, reported WPLG.

Another one of the suspect's relatives said, "For him to go inside the building and put the machete on someone’s neck, they have to give me the proof for that. He’s not like that."

The North Miami Beach Police Department noted on March 18 that "we turned over all body worn camera footage and additional evidence to [the Florida Department of Law Enforcement] as they continue their investigation into Thursday's incident. They have our full cooperation."

The property manager of the office building where the shooting occurred indicated that the incident was caught on camera and that footage corroborates the police officers' account of what took place.

Body cam video shows heart-stopping moment police thwart armed hostage situation by firing on suspect from roof of neighbor's home

Unnerving police body cam video shows the moment police officers thwarted an armed hostage situation in San Diego, California.

In the early hours of April 8, a prowler broke into five different homes, and had failed attempts at burglaries at two other residences. His alleged getaway vehicle was reportedly a white minivan that had previously been reported stolen in a carjacking.

The homeowner of the fifth home burglarized contacted 911 around 2:20 a.m. to inform authorities that a man had broken into her home. She told the 911 dispatcher that the home intruder was nearly nude and "masturbating in the bathroom."

Police arrived at the crime scene and made "verbal contact" with the homeowner's elderly father – who was also at the residence during the break-in.

Suddenly, a loud bang rang out, followed by screams by a female. Police immediately smashed the sliding glass door of the rear of the home. With guns drawn, several cops entered the home.

As the police officers began to go up the stairs, the intruder emerged out of a room with a gun to the head of the 53-year-old homeowner.

Officers confronted the gunman and commanded, "Let me see your f***ing hands! Let me see your hands!"

In the video of the hostage situation shared by the San Diego Police Department, there were apparently 10 minutes where the home invader pointed the barrel of the gun towards the woman's temple.

Police identify the gunman as 40-year-old parolee Demetrius Trussell. The police say that Trussell exposed himself and sexually battered the homeowner several times.

"We have a Mexican standoff," Trussell told the police in the chilling body cam video.

When asked why this is a hostage situation by a police officer, Trussell responded, "Cause I don’t have no way out, so I gotta take a hostage with me."

The cop replied, "No, no you don’t."

The gunman told authorities that they're "going to have to send a SWAT team."

An officer asked what will happen then, and Trussell said, “I want you to back out ... before I shoot her. I'm going to shoot her in the kneecap."

The woman screamed, "No! No! Please, God. Please, God, no!"

Then a round was fired by Trussell, but the woman told police that the gun accidentally went off and she was unharmed.

During the standoff, an officer climbed to a rear balcony to protect the woman's elderly father.

Meanwhile, another officer scaled a nearby roof to get a better vantage point of the hostage situation. Once in a position where the officer could see Trussell and the hostage through a window, the officer fired multiple shots at the gunman.

Trussell is startled by the gunfire and dropped his firearm. The woman quickly fled downstairs toward the officers.

In the dramatic footage, officers advanced towards Trussell who dropped to the floor and surrendered.

The woman, the suspect, and the police were unharmed during the shooting

Trussell was charged with 18 felonies, including suspicion of hot prowl burglary, kidnapping, false imprisonment with a hostage, negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of a stolen vehicle, indecent exposure, assault with the intent to commit a sex crime, sexual battery, multiple counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and a parole hold, according to Lt. Jud Campbell of the San Diego Police Department.

Deputy District Attorney Meghan Buckner said Trussell was on parole at the time of the break-ins. Trussell was convicted of a 2019 robbery in North Carolina and convicted of a 2018 hot prowl residential burglary in San Diego, according to the complaint.

Armed man takes hostages at Texas synagogue, reportedly demands release of convicted terrorist 'Lady Al Qaeda'

Law enforcement say at least four people are being held hostage at the Congregation Beth Israel in Colleyville, Texas, a city situated in between Dallas and Fort Worth.

What are the details?

A rabbi and three congregants were taken hostage Saturday afternoon at the synagogue, ABC News reported. A massive law enforcement presence remains on scene and an FBI negotiator is talking with the suspect.

Police are not aware to what extent the suspect is armed, though he has claimed to have a bomb. None of the hostages are believed to be harmed.

ABC News reported that the suspect is claiming to be the brother of Aafia Siddiqui, a notorious terrorist who is incarcerated at nearby Carswell Air Force Base. Siddiqui was sentenced to 86 years in federal prison in 2010 for conspiring to kill U.S. military personnel in Afghanistan. The suspect is reportedly demanding Siddiqui's freedom.

Foreign Policy explained more about Siddiqui:

[Siddiqui is] linked to al Qaeda and was convicted in 2010 of attempting to kill Americans in Afghanistan, would violate the administration’s policy of not granting concessions to terrorist groups, the officials concluded. It would also put a potentially dangerous fighter back on the street. Siddiqui ... who’s known in counterterrorism circles as "Lady al Qaeda," has been linked to 9/11 ringleader Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and was once on the FBI’s most-wanted terrorists list.

Educated in the United States — she studied at M.I.T. and received a doctorate from Brandeis — Siddiqui was arrested in 2008 in Afghanistan carrying sodium cyanide, as well as documents describing how to make chemical weapons and dirty bombs and how to weaponize Ebola. When FBI and military officials tried to question Siddiqui, she grabbed a weapon left on the table in her interrogation room and fired upon them.

The suspect reportedly entered the synagogue and took hostages in the middle of a service, which was being livestreamed on Facebook, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

"The man has repeatedly mentioned his sister and Islam and used profanities. He was heard asking for his sister to be released from prison. At one point, another voice can be heard apparently talking on the phone to police," the newspaper reported. "The man has said a few times he didn’t want anyone hurt, and he has mentioned his children. He also said repeatedly he believes he is going to die."

The livestream video has since been taken down.

This is a breaking news story that will be updated.

Dramatic video shows hostage situation unfold: SWAT team neutralize armed suspect barricaded in high-rise apartment, save woman

An unhinged California man went on a violent crime spree in downtown Los Angeles on Friday. The armed suspect shot a teen and then later barricaded himself with a hostage in a high-rise apartment building. Dramatic video captured the intense standoff between the armed man and police – which ended with the suspect being killed.

The terrifying sequence of events started around 4:10 p.m., when the suspect was on the sidewalk and put a gun to a man's face. He pulled the trigger, and "fortunately the gun did not fire," the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The man then went into a business and pointed the gun at a family. This time the gun fired, and the bullet grazed the head of a 14-year-old. The teen was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

The suspect left the business and attempted to carjack a woman, but was unable to get inside the vehicle and fled. The frenzied man then got into a physical altercation with a person riding a bike.

Officers attempted to apprehend the gunman, but he ran into an apartment building.

"The officers established a perimeter and began requesting additional resources including K9 and SWAT," LAPD said. "While a tactical plan was being put in place, officers became aware of surveillance footage from inside the apartment complex. They saw the suspect in a hallway armed with a gun forcing a female to come with him. At that point, we knew we had a hostage situation."

Onlookers in the area witnessed the chilling hostage situation unfold in the apartment building. The kidnapper is seen close to the window holding a gun to the woman's head as law enforcement shines a spotlight on the apartment unit.

Suddenly, several loud explosions are heard, which are believed to be flash-bang devices. A SWAT team enters the apartment and multiple gunshots ring out. The suspect was shot by an officer and pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was rescued and taken to a local hospital. Police told KABC-TV that the woman was "OK physically." The tactical team was unharmed.

Two doctors dead in apparent murder-suicide following hostage situation at Texas children's medical center

Two people are dead after an armed doctor reportedly killed a female pediatrician during a six-hour standoff at an Austin, Texas, children's medical clinic on Tuesday night.

A SWAT team discovered the bodies late Tuesday after negotiators reportedly spent at least six hours attempting to speak to the people inside the clinic.

What are the details?

A male doctor and a female doctor are both dead after the male doctor — identified by KVUE-TV as Dr. Bharat Narumanchi — took the female pediatrician — identified by KVUE as Dr. Katherine Lindley Dodson — and a group of other people hostage at a Texas children's clinic.

Police say that the male doctor took the female doctor hostage before fatally shooting her and then himself.

According to the station, the Austin Police Department said that Narumanchi visited the office a week before and applied for a volunteer position at the clinic.

Narumanchi, a pediatrician who was recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, was reportedly denied the position. KHOU-TV reported that Narumanchi had just "weeks to live."

KHOU reported that Narumanchi was a pediatrician with office locations in California. He completed his coursework with St. George's University School of Medicine in True Blue, Grenada, and was said to have completed his residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Police are now investigating why a reportedly armed Narumanchi returned to the clinic, as the two reportedly did not appear to have any relationship outside the previous week's visit.

Officers responded to the clinic around 4:30 p.m. local time after receiving reports of a "disturbance at a building," KVUE reported. The situation escalated and lasted until approximately 11:00 p.m. local time.

Witnesses said that everyone inside the office had been taken hostage, but at least three people were immediately let go by the suspect.

It is unclear at the time of this reporting how many hostages — who reported seeing Narumanchi armed with a pistol and what appeared to be a shotgun — were involved in the situation.

KVUE reported that negotiators were heard pleading with Narumanchi, saying, "I know you have helped so many children. We want that to be your legacy. Please make that possible. ... We know you have a lot going on in your life. We know you have been helping children your whole life."

According to KXAN-TV, Dodson, 43, was married with three children. She went to medical school at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans and completed her residency at Vanderbilt University Children's Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee.

Authorities are still investigating the case, and ask and people with information on the case to call APD Homicide at (512) 974-TIPS, email homicide.apd@austintexas.gov, use its Crime Stoppers tip line at (512) 472-8477, or the Crime Stoppers app.
