Video: Gun-toting jewelry store owner knows just what to do after burglar breaks in — and shocked crook makes hilarious exit

After closing up Sidrony Jewelers on Saturday, goldsmith Garrett Peddicord was settling in for "benchwork" in the back of his Omaha, Nebraska, store when something caught his eye on a security monitor, KETV-TV reported.

Turns out, a crook tossed a large rock through one of the store's front windows around 11:30 p.m. After shattered glass littered the floor, the burglar — of course dressed completely in black — entered the store through the new opening.

"That sort of unprovoked attack on what I've worked so hard to build here is pretty upsetting."

Peddicord spent about three years in the U.S. military in Afghanistan and also owns Athena Arms in Bellevue, the station said. Naturally, he knew exactly what to do.

“I typically carry a firearm on my waist, even after hours. It’s just one of those things,” he told KETV before patting his pockets and running through his mental checklist. “Keys, wallet, firearm.”

'Hey, m-effer!'

Peddicord drew his gun and headed out to where the action was, explaining to KETV that he purposely made loud steps to warn the crook somebody was coming. Peddicord added to the station that he also shouted, "Hey, m-effer!" — substituting a redacted version of the curse word we all know he used.

Suffice it to say, the burglar was quite scared, immediately throwing up his hands and almost daintily jogging to the exit before dutifully jumping through the opening in the window he busted.

"That sort of unprovoked attack on what I've worked so hard to build here is pretty upsetting," Peddicord added to the station.

Peddicord explained to KETV that the gun he carries "is the same as any of the other tools" he keeps in his workshop. “They all serve a purpose," he added to the station. "But this is the one tool that I hope to never have to use.”

Omaha police could not immediately confirm whether the burglar was caught, KETV noted.

VIDEO: Armed robbers sent running for their lives when store owner shows he has a gun, too — and he's not afraid to use it

The owner of a jewelry store in northern California thwarted an armed robbery and protected his family this week by brandishing a handgun and opening fire.

What happened?

When a trio of masked robbers stormed into Plaza Jewelers in Menlo Park Monday night, armed with guns and demanding money and jewelry, store owner Alfonso Argulo was forced to act quickly, KRON-TV reported.

Surveillance video of the incident showed one of the suspects carrying a shotgun and another holding a handgun. The third appeared to be armed with a crowbar. When they entered the store, they flashed their weapons at employees and customers.

That's when Argulo retrieved his handgun and quickly fired a shot into the front door. The suspects, who obviously didn't expect to encounter any armed resistance, immediately scrambled out of the store and into a getaway vehicle.

The whole incident took just eight seconds.

In another video, showing the parking lot outside the store, the three suspects can be seen scrambling in fear for their lives to find the door handles of their gold minivan. One man had trouble getting into the left side door.

What else?

Argulo, who owns the jewelry store with his wife, Rosalba Farias, and runs security for the family business, told KTVU-TV he sprang into action to protect his family's business and the customers inside, who were forced to get on their hands and knees and take cover.

The outlet reported that Argulo has had a concealed weapons permit for about 10 years. He reportedly used the same weapon in 2013 to scare off robbers by simply pulling its slide back.

Argulo's wife, Rosaria Farias, praised her husband's bravery and quick thinking and added that she was thankful no one was injured in the attack.

"I get nervous; you need to think fast," Farias said. "The good thing is nobody got hurt."

"People are OK, the store is OK, me and my wife are OK, these are the most important things," added Argulo.

Anything else?

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. So far, no arrests have been made and authorities are requesting help from the community to identify the suspects.

Detectives did say that no jewelry or money were taken from the store and that only one shot was fired. No one was injured in the incident.
