Top adviser to leftist DA George Gascón — his ADA of ethics and integrity operations — hit with 11 felony charges

A top adviser for Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was slapped Wednesday with 11 felony charges over her alleged "repeated and unauthorized use of data from confidential, statutorily protected peace officer files."

Diana Teran, Gascón's assistant district attorney of ethics and integrity operations as well as his designee on immigration policy issues, has long been suspected of unlawfully downloading confidential L.A. County Sheriff's Department files in 2018 while still an LASD employee.

Teran allegedly yanked data on 11 sheriff's deputies in concert with L.A. County Inspector General Max Huntsman's office, the outfit tasked with oversight of the sheriff's department.

According to California Attorney General Rob Bonta, Teran "impermissibly used that data" after joining Gascón's team in January 2021.

Former Undersheriff Tim Murakami told KABC-TV in 2019 that Teran, who previously served as a constitutional policing adviser for the LASD, downloaded the confidential records for Huntsman and the Office of the Inspector General just days before former LASD Sheriff Alex Villanueva was sworn into office.

The downloads reportedly first came to light in civil litigation between the county and the LASD over Villanueva's rehiring of Deputy Caren Carl Mandoyan, who had previously been canned for alleged domestic violence and stalking.

According to a declaration by an LASD detective filed in the Superior Court of the State of California, Teran accessed the records through what is known as the Personnel Review Management System on Nov. 28, 2018, downloading "78 documents from 22 unique LASD employee case files."

Among the documents Gascón's future ally allegedly absconded with were "14 documents, totaling approximately 2000 pages, from case files related to Sheriff Alex Villanueva. Additionally, Ms. Teran downloaded documents from the case files of at least eight current and former LASD executives."

Huntsman claimed that his office had the legal right to inspect the files, noting, "We're required to keep them confidential — so we don't put out confidential information — but we're allowed to see the whole picture, so we can get a good view of things, and that includes the sheriff department's personnel records."

Huntsman further suggested that the files mentioned in the detective's declaration were of interest because they had been designated as secret, reported the Los Angeles Times.

Murakami disagreed, stating, "That code doesn't give him [Huntsman] free rein to look at anything."

"The problem with him is that he's actually violating the law. He may think he's doing a good thing, but you can't violate a law in order to enforce a law," added the former undersheriff.

The LASD launched a criminal investigation into Huntsman and Teran, suggesting they were looking at possible "Conspiracy, Theft of Government Property, Unauthorized Computer Access, Theft of Confidential Files, Unlawful dissemination of Confidential Files, Potential Civil Rights Violations, and Burglary."

The AG's office evidently figured there was something to the allegations.

Each of the 11 felony counts Teran now faces is punishable by up to three years in jail and a maximum fine of $10,000.

"No one is above the law," said California Attorney General Rob Bonta. "Public officials are called to serve the people and the State of California with integrity and honesty."

Teran's attorney James Spertus echoed the OIG's years-old claims when asked about the charges, telling the Los Angeles Times, "They're charging her for doing something within the scope of her employment, that she has a duty to do."

Spertus suggested that the investigation into Teran was prompted by a complaint by Villanueva, who reportedly referred to Teran's downloads this week as as "massive data breach."

Gascón said in a statement obtained by the Times, "I remain committed to upholding transparency and ensuring police accountability within Los Angeles County."

Teran started off in Gascón's office as a special adviser. She went on to deal with prosecutions of police and attorney misconduct. Just recently, Gascón — whom hundreds of thousands of L.A. County residents have desperately attempted to remove from office in multiple recall efforts — promoted Teran to assistant district attorney.

Nathan Hochman, the candidate looking to beat Gascón on Nov. 5 in the L.A. County District Attorney race, wrote Wednesday night on X, "Did Gascon know about the AG Investigation BEFORE he promoted Diana Teran to Assistant DA in charge of ethics and integrity on Jan 4, 2024?? If so, he should resign immediately for such leadership malpractice. If not, he's so asleep and unaware of what's going on around him that he should resign or that reason as well."

Hochman highlighted Gascón's apparent reliance on Teran, suggesting this development "is yet another sign of Hasco's poor judgment and failed leadership.

As you can see, Diana Teran was one of Gascon’s most trusted leaders. Now she’s facing 11 criminal charges brought by the state AG. This is yet another sign of Gascon’s poor judgment and failed leadership. #GasconMustGo

LA County Sheriff reveals stunning consequences of Soros-backed district attorney's justice reform on child porn case

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva revealed the stunning consequences of new progressive justice reform policies on a case involving a suspect allegedly caught in possession of child pornography.

Villanueva published the incident on his official social media account on Thursday.

"#LASD Special Victims Bureau investigated a male for possession of child pornography with a previous sex crime conviction. Yesterday, the defendant pled "no contest" to the charges," he tweeted.

"Pursuant to the DA's new directives, both of the defendant's previous strike convictions for sex crimes with a child were stricken resulting in a low term 2 years in state prison sentence," he added in a second tweet.

"The defendant who has been in custody since his arrest in October 2020, has earned approximately 253 days credit towards his required half time to be served and will likely be released from custody in about 112 days," he concluded.

Villanueva was referring to new policies implemented by newly-elected District Attorney George Gascón, who won the position with the help of millions of dollars of donations from billionaire leftist George Soros.

Gascón immediately upon taking office rewrote the county's justice policies to abolish cash bail, to avoid seeking the death penalty for any offenses, and refusing to apply certain prosecution enhancements.

Among those, according to Villanueva, were previous convictions against the defendant for sex crimes with a child. As a result, the offender was sentenced to only 2 years in prison but would be released after 112 days.

Villanueva had previously objected to Gascón's decision to deny filing special circumstances in the case of a man accused of decapitating two children with an axe.

"As Sheriff of LA County, I firmly believe we are not safer by putting the interests of offenders over the needs of victims of crime," wrote Villanueva at the time.

LA 'Super-Spreader Task Force' detains over 900, arrests and fines nearly 100 revelers during NYE raids

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department cracked down on New Year's Eve parties by deploying its "Super-Spreader Task Force." The strict clampdown resulted in hundreds of partygoers being detained, arrested, and fined.

The Superspreader Task Force was comprised of "hundreds of detectives, patrol deputies, and Specialized Response Teams." The coronavirus lockdown enforcers crashed five large NYE parties in Los Angeles, Malibu, Hawthorne, and Pomona. The "illegal" celebrations were held in speakeasy locations such as upscale homes, vacant warehouses, a DoubleTree hotel, and shuttered businesses.

Los Angeles news station KTTV-TV was on the scene on many of the parties that were broken up by police. Based on the footage, most of the offenders appeared to be in their late teens and early 20s.

Over 900 people were detained, 90 were arrested and/or given citations. Law enforcement announced that they recovered at least six guns.

"I have made it clear that we will seek out and take law enforcement action against all 'Super-Spreader' events occurring anywhere within Los Angeles County," Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said. "The goal of these enforcement actions is to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and the risk to our vulnerable populations."

LASD Captain Holly Francisco said, "We are actively enforcing the superspreaders to protect against COVID. Once we confirmed there was a party here, we had our super spreader task force respond and detain the occupants."

Lt. John Satterfield stated, "We're going ahead and writing citations to the people that knowingly placed others in jeopardy by having a large gathering. There was no social distancing, there were no masks, it was unsafe and irresponsible."

One frustrated New Year's Eve reveler told KTTV, "We're tired of closing this sh** down, my people have lost businesses and all that sh**, and we really just wanted some fresh air, man, that's what's going on we wanted some fresh air, they come out with the tanks and all man, sh** is crazy."

Last month, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti (D) told his constituents to expect more COVID-19 lockdowns, going so far as to say, "It's time to cancel everything."

Graphic photo taken in moment following shooting of 2 LA officers shows deputy shot through the jaw saving fellow cop with tourniquet and radioing for help

Two Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies shot in a Saturday night ambush attack are expected to survive, according to reports.

KTTV-TV investigative reporter Bill Melugin shared a photo of the moment following the shooting of the officers on Saturday, revealing that a female deputy — who was shot through the jaw — was able to apply a tourniquet to the male deputy's wounds and radio for help, despite being grievously injured.

The female officer, according to CNN, is a 31-year-old mother. The male officer is just 24 years old.

What's a brief history here?

The horrific ambush of two deputies took place in Los Angeles on Saturday evening.

A suspect fired on the deputies in an apparently unprovoked attack as they sat in a police cruiser on a Los Angeles street, authorities say.

Both were "severely wounded" during the incident and taken to a nearby hospital for emergency surgery. They are expected to live, despite their injuries.

Black Lives Matter activists reportedly converged on the hospital, blocking entrances and demanding that the officers be left to die. Several protesters were arrested during the fracas.

What are the details?

Melugin, with the permission of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and the officers' families, shared the photo Sunday night on Twitter.

He wrote, "NEW: LASD & the families of the two ambushed deputies have given me permission to show this graphic photo of the moment after they were shot. I'm told female deputy was shot through jaw, still radioed for help & applied tourniquet to male deputy's wounds. Both stable now."

What else?

A manhunt is under way for a suspect who approached the officers' parked patrol vehicle and fired on the deputies sitting inside.

Officials are offering a $100,000 reward for information on the shooting.

The sheriff's department describes the suspect as a black man between 28 and 30 years old wearing dark clothing. He was last seen in a dark sedan.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Setif Capelton, who lives in the neighborhood in which the officers were shot, said that the attack "makes no sense."

"It hurts this community more than anything else," Capelton said. "Now, what if someone walks up to a police officer's car, and they get scared and shoot that person?"

Capelton said, "People are looking for someone to blame for racism. People are looking to blame a cop."

Local resident Maria Medina added, "It feels like there's more tension between the police and people in this area."

Of the shooting, Medina added, "[N]o one deserves to have their lives taken like that."

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said the shooting was disturbing.

"That was a cowardly act," he said. "The two deputies were just doing their jobs, minding their own business and watching for the safety of the people on the train. Seeing somebody walk up and just start shooting on them. It p***es me off."

You can see the moment the suspect approaches the police cruiser and opens fire on its occupants below.
