Bill Maher hands out 'Cojones Awards' to those who fought against woke cancel culture, including Trader Joe's and Netflix

Bill Maher honored the brave, few people and companies that took a stand against cancel culture, including and Trader Joe's. On Friday night, the "Real Time with Bill Maher" host handed out awards to those who fought back against the woke cancel culture.

Maher humblebragged that he attended a swanky party at the home of a prominent Hollywood producer over a year ago. He claimed that there were several A-listers at the affair, and they were extremely concerned about the rise of liberals weaponizing cancel culture.

The Hollywood elites allegedly asked, "How do we take a stand against cancel culture?"

Maher replied, "And I suggested since we were mostly all in show business that we start at an award show to honor the brave people who have fought back."

The liberal talk show host said the idea with "met with great enthusiasm by everyone."

However, he added, "And then of course being Hollywood, nothing happened."

Instead, Maher decided to host his own award show paying tribute to those who fought back against cancel culture. He named the event "The Cojones Awards." Maher quipped that the actual awards are "solid brass balls."

Maher delivered the first Cojones Award to Martha Pollack – the president of his alma mater Cornell University. Pollack has defended freedom of speech against woke activists trying to shut down conservative speakers at the school.

"It is critical to our mission as a university to think deeply about freedom of expression and the challenges that result from assaults on it, which today come from both ends of the political spectrum," Pollack proclaimed. "Learning from difference, learning to engage with difference and learning to communicate across difference are key parts of a Cornell education. Free expression and academic freedom are the bedrock not just of the university, but of democracy."

Maher said, "She didn't cave in or hire a new dean of sensitivity, she just said, 'No. College is for introducing you to new ideas, not for kissing your ass and making you feel wonderful and always right.'"

The next award went to Trader Joe's for refusing to bend the knee to the outrage mob. Trader Joe's was accused of having "racist" labels on their products.

Social justice warriors slammed the national grocery chain for having certain names for ethnic food. Mexican food is Trader Jose's, Arabian Joe for Middle Eastern products, Trader Giotto's for Italian items, and Trader Joe San for Japanese cuisine.

Trader Joe's didn't buckle from pressure from the woke mob, even when a petition began to gain some steam.

"We want to be clear: we disagree that any of these labels are racist," a statement from Trader Joe's declared. "We do not make decisions based on petitions."

The next Cojones Award went to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos for standing up when the outrage mob came for Dave Chappelle, including employees from his own company. Some people were enraged by Chappelle's stand-up comedy special, and they believed it was "transphobic" and "dangerous."

"We have a strong belief that content on screen doesn't directly translate to real-world harm," Sarandos said in an internal email to his employees.

Sarandos doubled down in an interview.

"I think it’s very important to the American culture generally to have free expression," Sarandos declared.

"We’re programming for a lot of diverse people who have different opinions and different tastes and different styles, and yet we’re not making everything for everybody," Sarandos added. "We want something for everybody, but everything’s not going to be for everybody.”

The final honoree was Ben Stiller, who faced criticism earlier this year for his role in the 2008 movie "Tropic Thunder."

Stiller said in February, "I make no apologies for 'Tropic Thunder.' Don’t know who told you that. It’s always been a controversial movie since when we opened. Proud of it and the work everyone did on it."

Maher noted that a lesson could be learned in not bowing down to the cancel culture mob.

"And the lesson is if you stand up to the mob for just a day or two, their shallow, impatient, immature smartphone-driven gerbil minds will forget about it and go on to the next nothingburger, and you, you still will have your cojones," Maher explained.

The West Can’t Even Understand Why Russia Sees It As A Threat

The now-secular ‘just war’ tradition of the West and the ‘necessary war’ tradition of still overtly Christian polities of the East are colliding in the Ukraine war.

Deace: A time for justice

My hunger for the sternest forms of justice is nearly insatiable these days. Even to the point of co-authoring a book calling for a new Nuremberg trial. I want justice because it is a testimony to the truth: God’s truth, which is the ultimate truth. Thus, justice properly understood is not only good, but holy.

But there is more. So much more.

Because in God’s glorious, grace-fueled economy, mercy triumphs over judgment, if only we let it. There is no darkness so vast that mercy can’t wash it clean. So even though current events may, in fact, soon warrant the need for the sort of justice once inflicted on Nazis, they make the stories of mercy only more obvious and beautiful to behold.

For example, this is just within the last week:

  • Comedian JP Sears, who is well known for destroying the lies of Covidstan, testified to how the experience of the last few years has humbled him to accept a glorious reality far beyond his own proud rationalizations of the past. Please watch him give what is a vastly superior sermon compared to much of what is coming from American churches these days.
  • Former self-described “slut” and Playboy columnist Bridget Phetasy publicly acknowledged the lies she told not only herself, but countless others over the years in the name of feminism and so-called “empowerment.” The end result, though, is not condemnation but true freedom for both men and women alike, as Phetasy bottom-lines her arrival at the truth like this: “Every woman should feel this way: Sleeping w/ me is a privilege. And you have to be worthy.”
  • The group Gays Against Groomers has so upset the diabolical moral economy of the Twitter-sphere that it was banned by the platform for “reasons” before being later re-instated on the same day. Cults hate it when those who are supposed to drink the deepest from the Kool-Aid cup reject them. And you don’t have to applaud all that Gays Against Groomers represents to accept that when it comes to saving innocent children from the modern-day Mengeles in our midst, they know what time it is and refuse to bring a knife to a gunfight, as they make statements like this: “There needs to be a federal law banning all trans medicalization and surgical mutilation of minors. All of these doctors and surgeons should not only be stripped of their medical licenses, but never be allowed within 500 yards of a child ever again.”
  • And lastly, the sororities of the University of Alabama who unanimously told a boy in a dress to get the hell out. Nicely done, ladies.

These people, broken as each and every one of them are in their own way, nonetheless became vessels of light in the last week as they accepted, in no uncertain terms, certain truths of God’s creation. None of which is to say they have accepted all of the truth or even the most important parts of it yet. However, they are closer than they once were to the way, the truth, and the life – as are those who heard what they had to say and were similarly awakened by such unambiguous testimony.

Remember, we are all sinners put back together by God. None of us is without cracks, but those cracks aren’t just scars. Because it is when God’s light shines through the cracks that our true destiny unfolds. That’s when others no longer see our cracks, but his light.

With that said, pray for all those above and be grateful for their courage. For thus says the Lord in the Book of Ezekiel 36:23-28:

I will prove the holiness of my great name,
profaned among the nations,
in whose midst you have profaned it.
Thus the nations shall know that I am the LORD, says the Lord GOD,
when in their sight I prove my holiness through you.
For I will take you away from among the nations,
gather you from all the foreign lands,
and bring you back to your own land.
I will sprinkle clean water upon you
to cleanse you from all your impurities,
and from all your idols I will cleanse you.
I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you,
taking from your bodies your stony hearts
and giving you natural hearts.
I will put my spirit within you and make you live by my statutes,
careful to observe my decrees.
You shall live in the land I gave your ancestors;
you shall be my people, and I will be your God.

In this passage, God is obviously speaking specifically about his people, the Israelites. Nevertheless, we are all made in his image, Jew and Gentile alike. So, we can take heed that this reflects the overall heart of God – for mercy to triumph over judgment.

But also take heed of this: If we do not seek his mercy, we will face his judgment.

Why The Left Is Helping Make America Racist Again

Self-styled anti-racists and social justice activists are seething with hate, but it is only upon love that we can move beyond racial tension and division.

Bill Maher mocks social justice warriors, warns cancel culture is 'real, insane, and coming to a neighborhood near you'

On the latest episode of "Real Time with Bill Maher," the liberal talk show host warned that cancel culture is not just reserved for celebrities, but the outrage mob is also coming to punish everyday Americans and even historical figures like Abraham Lincoln.

Bill Maher began his monologue by saying, "Liberals need a Stand Your Ground law ... for cancel culture. So that when the woke mob comes after you for some ridiculous offense, you'll stand your ground, stop apologizing. Because I can't keep up with who's on the s*** list."

"Cancel culture is real, it's insane, it's growing exponentially, and it's coming to a neighborhood near you," he cautioned. "If you think it's just for celebrities – no. In an era when everyone is online, everyone is a public figure."

Maher referenced the unfortunate situation of Emmanuel Cafferty, a Hispanic man who was fired from his job at San Diego Gas and Electric in May after a photo of him went viral online. Cafferty had his hands out of a work truck in the "OK" sign position, which some argue is a hallmark of white supremacy and the Anti-Defamation League declared to be a "symbol of hate."

Cafferty said he was simply cracking his knuckles, and there was "no racist intent behind it." Maher joked, "He wasn't making a hand gesture; he was probably flicking a booger."

Maher asked, "Is this really who we want to become? A society of phony, clenched a******* avatars walking on eggshells, always looking over your shoulder about getting ratted out for something that actually has nothing to do with your character or morals?"

The HBO host questioned, "Think about everything you've ever texted, emailed, searched for, tweeted, blogged, or said in passing. Or now even just witnessed. 'Someone had a Confederate flag in their dorm room in 1990 and you didn't do anything?' 'You laughed at a Woody Allen movie?'"

Maher amended the renowned quote credited to Andy Warhol from "everyone will have 15 minutes of fame" to "everyone will have 15 minutes of shame."

He then cited a Cato Institute/YouGov national poll from July that found 62% of Americans say the current political climate prevents them from voicing their political opinions because "others might find them offensive." Republicans were the group most likely to practice self-censorship, while "strong liberals" were the only ideological group in the country who held a majority in feeling they could freely express their convictions without fear of retribution.

"Everybody hates it but nobody stands up to it," Maher said of cancel culture. "Because it's always the safe thing to swallow what you really think and just join the mob."

Maher brought up recent attempts to cancel pop culture figures such as Justin Timberlake, "The Bachelor" host Chris Harrison, and former "The Mandalorian" star Gina Carano who was fired by Disney for comparing censorship of conservatives to the treatment of Jews in Nazi Germany.

"She made some Nazi analogy. Who doesn't these days?" Maher quipped. "'You're like the Nazis' is the new 'I don't like you.' 'It's always OK when Trump's the Nazi.'"

"By the way, you can't work in Hollywood if you don't believe what we believe? Yeah, in the 1950s, that's exactly what the left complained they were being told," he added.

Maher attempted to counsel "woke" progressives, "Mature people understand humans are continually evolving as opposed to Wokeville, where they're always shocked we didn't emerge enlightened from the primordial ooze."

Maher ridiculed the campaign to erase the names of Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln from school buildings in San Francisco by education officials, as well as an effort to remove statues of Lincoln in Chicago because they are allegedly problematic.

"The land of Lincoln might cancel Lincoln," Maher said of the president who signed the Emancipation Proclamation.

"Memo to social justice warriors: When what you're doing sounds like an Onion headline, stop," Maher concluded.
