Video: Texas store owner has big surprise for two armed, hooded thugs who walk through his door

Surveillance videos caught the scary moments when a pair of armed, hooded males entered a Mesquite, Texas, store last Thursday.

Thing is, though, the owner of the Cash4Gold store on Town East Boulevard was ready for them, and he pulled out a gun of his own and quickly opened fire, KDFW-TV reported.

"It’s a quick three seconds," said Tien, the store owner, who gave the station only his first name for safety reasons. "No time to think. It’s all reaction."

What happened?

Video shows Tien in the back of the store when the two males walk through the store's entrance — and one of them pulls out a gun, KDFW said.

But so does Tien:

"Everything was slow motion to me," Tien told the station. "I saw the mask, I saw the hoodie, I saw the gun come out."

KDFW reported that Tien shot first, and the two males fired back three times.

The station said no one was hurt, but bullets hit a glass counter, walls, and Tien's golf bag.

"Luckily, it wasn't me," he added to KDFW.

Not the first time

The station said last week's shootout wasn't the first time Tien was forced to defend his store.

In fact, he told KDFW that it was the third time he's experienced a robbery attempt in the last five years — but in each instance, he scared off the intruders. Police captured the offenders in the last two robbery attempts, the station said.

July 2019 surveillance video shows two armed males entering Tien's store — but he fired warning shots, after which the suspects ran off, KDFW reported.

"I think the cash business, the gold business, seems to be an easy target for them, or so they think, but it’s not," Tien told the station.

Mesquite Police Lieut. Brandon Ricketts noted to KDFW that "our hope is that someone sees these videos, sees these images and recognizes [the suspects], especially the suspect that doesn’t have his face covered."

Police added to the station that the two armed males from Thursday's incident are looking at aggravated robbery charges if they're caught.

Despite all his troubles, Tien noted to KDFW that's not going anywhere.

Masked crook points gun at Chicago business owner, who's in 'complete shock.' But when perp has trouble with pistol, victim seizes moment to fight back.

James Suh, owner of Car Care Auto Spa in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood, was on a conference call for his daughter’s school around closing time earlier this month when a masked man walked into his store, pointed a gun at him, and demanded money from the register, WMAQ-TV reported.

“It was just so sudden and alarming, no preparations,” Suh told the station regarding the Oct. 10 incident. “I didn’t even see him walking in; all of a sudden he’s just there in front of me.” He added to WMAQ that "my mind was in complete shock."

Suh told the robber he couldn’t open the register, the station said.

What happened next?

The crook is seen on surveillance video having issues with his gun — and WMAQ said that was the moment the married father of two saw his chance to fight back.

Suh, in a sudden flash, went for the perp's gun.

“Your mind is just firing on all cylinders in such a short time, and I think I was mostly acting out of emotion and frustration, which is not a good place to make important decisions from,” he admitted to the station.

A second surveillance video shows Suh and the armed intruder struggling for the gun.

Fortunately, Suh successfully disarmed the suspect, who ran out of the store with no cash and no weapon, WMAQ said. Suh is seen on video walking back behind the register with the crook's gun in hand.

“This guy, he was clearly not a professional, he didn’t know what he was doing,” Suh told the station. “I don’t know what his circumstances are — you know, maybe he felt he was desperate, and he had no choice to go out and do this.”

Despite his victory over crime, Suh told WMAQ he'd handle it differently if he had to do it over again: "I think I would probably just comply and give him the money because it’s not worth it.”

Anything else?

The suspect fled northbound on Cicero Avenue and hadn't been located when the station's story ran, WMAQ said.

Suh noted to the station that Chicago police told him the gun wasn't loaded. WMAQ added that detectives are investigating the incident.

VIDEO: Armed robbers sent running for their lives when store owner shows he has a gun, too — and he's not afraid to use it

The owner of a jewelry store in northern California thwarted an armed robbery and protected his family this week by brandishing a handgun and opening fire.

What happened?

When a trio of masked robbers stormed into Plaza Jewelers in Menlo Park Monday night, armed with guns and demanding money and jewelry, store owner Alfonso Argulo was forced to act quickly, KRON-TV reported.

Surveillance video of the incident showed one of the suspects carrying a shotgun and another holding a handgun. The third appeared to be armed with a crowbar. When they entered the store, they flashed their weapons at employees and customers.

That's when Argulo retrieved his handgun and quickly fired a shot into the front door. The suspects, who obviously didn't expect to encounter any armed resistance, immediately scrambled out of the store and into a getaway vehicle.

The whole incident took just eight seconds.

In another video, showing the parking lot outside the store, the three suspects can be seen scrambling in fear for their lives to find the door handles of their gold minivan. One man had trouble getting into the left side door.

What else?

Argulo, who owns the jewelry store with his wife, Rosalba Farias, and runs security for the family business, told KTVU-TV he sprang into action to protect his family's business and the customers inside, who were forced to get on their hands and knees and take cover.

The outlet reported that Argulo has had a concealed weapons permit for about 10 years. He reportedly used the same weapon in 2013 to scare off robbers by simply pulling its slide back.

Argulo's wife, Rosaria Farias, praised her husband's bravery and quick thinking and added that she was thankful no one was injured in the attack.

"I get nervous; you need to think fast," Farias said. "The good thing is nobody got hurt."

"People are OK, the store is OK, me and my wife are OK, these are the most important things," added Argulo.

Anything else?

The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident. So far, no arrests have been made and authorities are requesting help from the community to identify the suspects.

Detectives did say that no jewelry or money were taken from the store and that only one shot was fired. No one was injured in the incident.
