'Look at the forehead': Tennis analyst apologizes for cruel hot-mic remarks about Czech tennis player

Tennis Channel analyst Jon Wertheim has apologized for remarks he made while allegedly engaging in behind-the-scenes banter that wasn't meant to air.

During the hot-mic moment, Wertheim was adjusting his camera as the channel showed hosts sitting at their desk with Wertheim on an adjacent screen. As the hosts were reviewing their notes and getting last-minute hair adjustments, Wertheim said, "What do you think I am ... Barbora Krejcikova?"

Seemingly making fun of himself, Wertheim was referencing No. 10-ranked Czech tennis player Barbora Krejcikova before her upcoming match against No. 5-ranked Qinwen Zheng of China at the Dow Tennis Classic.

Wertheim continued in the clip, posted to X, mocking Krejcikova's appearance:

"Look at the forehead when Krejicikova and Zheng take the court ... eight-head," he added.

Krejcikova took to her X account two days later to remark on the lack of professionalism on the part of Wertheim, claiming there is a need for increased respect in sports media.

"You might have heard about the recent comments made on Tennis Channel during the WTA Finals coverage that focused on my appearance rather than my performance," she began. "As an athlete who has dedicated herself to this sport, it was disappointing to see this type of unprofessional commentary."

"This isn't the first time something like this is happening in sports world," the 28-year-old continued. "I've often chosen not to speak up, but I believe it's time to address the need for respect and professionalism in sports media. These moments distract from the true essence of sport and the dedication all athletes bring to the field."

The athlete added she has a deep love for her sport and wants to see it represented honorably.

'I am not the victim here.'

Nearly six hours after Krejcikova posted her statement, Wertheim issued his own apology in the early hours of the morning.

Wertheim called his own comments "deeply regrettable," while still acknowledging them. He then claimed he immediately reached out to Krejcikova and apologized, offering an explanation:

"I joined the show by zoom. In rehearsal we were shown a graphic of a player who had just competed. It showed her at an angle that exaggerated her forehead. A few moments later, I was told to frame up my zoom. I looked at the low camera angle and joked that it made my forehead resemble the photo of the player in question."

Wertheim noted that someone in the control room engaged in banter with him, and the exchange inadvertently made it to air "without context."

"I am not the victim here," Wertheim added. "It was neither professional nor charitable nor reflective of the person I strive to be. I am accountable. I own this. I am sorry."

Fans in Wertheim's replies were confused as to why the issue was brought up by the tennis player days after the fact, especially given that Wertheim claimed he "immediately" reached out to her to apologize.

Nonetheless, the Tennis Channel released a statement revealing it had "immediately" and "indefinitely" suspended Wertheim from on-air appearances.

"The network also apologized to the player, Barbora Krejcikova, as did Jon," the statement read.

A public relations representative also called Wertheim a valued member of the channel's family who unfortunately did not meet the company's "standard of respectfulness" in that moment.

Federal judge rules 11-year-old Virginia boy can play on girls' tennis team, citing 'social isolation and stigma'

A U.S. district court judge ruled that a young boy who allegedly identifies as a girl shall be allowed to play for the girls' tennis team at his school.

A Hanover County middle school in Virginia is the subject of U.S. District Court Judge M. Hannah Lauck's decision that a young boy was excluded from a team on the basis of sex.

Judge Lauck declared that the plaintiff "established that the [school] Board excluded her, on the basis of sex, from participating in an education program when it denied her application to try out for (and if selected, to participate on) her school's girls' tennis team."

The child, who is being labeled as Janie Doe, had the lawsuit filed on his behalf with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Virginia.

'This is child abuse & the parents belong in jail.'

The ACLU is alleging the school discriminated against the child by not allowing him to play on the team despite successfully trying out. This is in spite of the fact that Virginia law prohibits biological males from competing on girls' and women's athletics teams since the Save Women Sports Act was passed in 2021.

The judge added, among other claims, that the child would face "social isolation" and "stigma" if not allowed to play with girls, in part because it would become clear that he wasn't actually a girl:

"Because Janie Doe faces a litany of harms ranging from medical regression, social isolation and stigma, financial and logistical burdens, and the dignitary harms of either 'outing' her as transgender or communicating that transgender students are not welcomed or encouraged to participate in school athletics at all, Janie Doe has made more than a clear showing that the discrimination has harmed her," Lauck wrote, according to Fox News.

The judge was reportedly appointed by former President Barack Obama, per OutKick, and the injunction means the child can play on the girls' team as the lawsuit moves forward in court.

Women's sports activist Riley Gaines commented on the story, expressing shock while claiming the child has been on puberty blockers since the age of 7:

"These parents put their SEVEN yr old son on puberty blockers. They fraudulently changed his birth certificate to female. Now, an Obama-appointed judge has ruled that he can play tennis with the girls," Gaines wrote on X. "This is child abuse & the parents belong in jail."

The child has "identified as a girl since she was 7 years old," the Washington Post stated. Additionally, he was "diagnosed with gender dysphoria, has been placed on puberty blockers, and legally changed her name and birth certificate to reflect her sex as female," the outlet also reported.

'XX XY': Tennis star Aryna Sabalenka's coach spotted wearing pro-biological women sports apparel during win over world No. 1

Belarusian tennis star Aryna Sabalenka's fitness coach was seen on TV wearing clothing in support of biological women in sports.

Fitness coach Jason Stacy has been seemingly integral to Sabalenka's success in recent months, including at the 2024 Australian Open, which Sabalenka won for the second straight year.

During a recent semi-final match at the Cincinnati Open, Sabalenka, who is ranked No. 3 in the world, beat world No. 1 Iga Świątek of Poland in straight sets (6-3, 6-3).

Fans noticed however that when the camera panned to coach Stacy, he was wearing a hat that read "XX XY Athletics."

The brand is synonymous with protecting women's-only spaces in sports, and despite explicitly saying so, keeping men who identify as women from playing against biological women.

Athletes like former NCAA swimmers Riley Gaines and Paula Scanlan have done photoshoots for the brand, as both have competed against infamous female-identifying male swimmer Lia (Luke) Thomas.

The pair are featured on the brand's header image on its X page, which also includes well-known de-transitioner Chloe Cole. Cole has said she was coerced into a gender transition at a young age and was put on hormones at just 12 years old.

Stacy and Sabalenka have appeared very close throughout her climb to the top the Women's Tennis Association rankings, appearing in photos together at some of the Belarusian's biggest victories.

The duo's rapport was showcased in early 2024 when Sabalenka commented on a hilarious instance where she autographed her coach's bald head.

"We just like to do weird s**t, guys!" Sabalenka told a reporter following a win. "We just started this. I did it before the first match, and after I won, I told Jason, 'Well, I guess it's a routine right now.' He's not happy with that but he understands everything," she added, per Tennis.com.

Stacy has reportedly said that his job is to manage Sabalenka's stress levels during big tournaments, and joking around in these ways helps to do just that.

"At a [Grand Slam tournament], there's a lot of background noise," Stacy said. "You have to find a way to turn the volume down a little bit … She's an emotional person, [and] my job is to manage it."

Neither Sabalenka nor coach Stacy have made public comments regarding any possible statements made through wearing the apparel; Sabalenka was not asked about the hat at a press conference following her recent victory.

Novak Djokovic's response to heckler's nasty attack at Australian Open is PERFECTION

Serbian superstar tennis player Novak Djokovic is no stranger to criticism. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he was severely ridiculed and banned from competing in several of the world’s biggest tournaments for refusing to take the vaccine.

Back in 2022, he told a BBC reporter in what’s now a famous interview that being barred from competing was “the price [he was] willing to pay” to maintain autonomy over his body.

“The principles of decision-making on my body are more important than any title,” he said confidently, despite the interviewer’s apparent disapproval.

Today, Djokovic is revered by many as an anti-vax hero.

However, there are some out there who believe in the infallibility of the vaccine and continue to condemn the athlete’s decision. This was evident during a match that took place over the weekend during the Australian Open.

Dave Rubin plays a clip of Djokovic’s response to a heckler in the crowd who brazenly shouted, “Get vaccinated!”

Without reacting, Djokovic scored what is called an ace — a serve that is hit so perfectly the opponent cannot even come close to returning it.

“That's what it's all about — standing up for what you believe and doing what you think is right,” says Dave.

Tennis icon Martina Navratilova drops truth bomb on transgender woman who claims his 'body chemistry is more female than' hers

After India Willoughby, a biological man who claims to be a woman, asserted that his "body chemistry is more female than" that of former professional women's tennis player Martina Navratilova, the tennis icon fired back by noting that Willoughby is not female.

Navratilova had tweeted that "trans identifying males is not a transphobic buzz phrase ... but rather a biological fact. Also it makes it much easier to understand who is who and how they started. Where they end up can change, but biology doesn't change. Ever."

Willoughby asserted that "calling someone a 'trans identified male' rather than simply a woman is about as transphobic as it gets" and that an individual "who transitions is factually and legally a biological female."

"Biology absolutely changes. My body chemistry is more female than Martina's. My anatomy is female. The fact Martina and other bigots refuse to acknowledge me or any woman who happens to be trans is deeply offensive. If it sticks in her craw so much, she shouldn’t be commentating," Willoughby declared. "The NHS - actual doctors - recognise me. They're not confused. So why can't Martina Navratilova? It's bigotry and prejudice," Willoughby added.

Martina Navratilova responded by stating the simple truth that Willoughby "never was, and never will be, female."

But Willoughby openly claims that he is female.

"I don't ID as a woman/female. I am a woman/female," Willoughby has tweeted.

Willoughby has claimed to to be "more of a woman than JK Rowling will ever be," referring to the famous author of the "Harry Potter" series.
