Watch: The best and worst jokes from the jam-packed White House Correspondents' Dinner – Biden needles Trump and DeSantis

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner took place in Washington, D.C., on Saturday night. This was the first WHCD since 2020 because of the pandemic.

The packed indoor event at the Washington Hilton was hosted by "Daily Show" host Trevor Noah, and attended by journalists, politicos, and celebrities. President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden were also in attendance.

The WHCD began with a video of a pre-recorded skit with "Late Late Show" host James Corden filling in for White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki.

Corden is most concerned about President Biden's opinion on the budding romance between Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson – who were in attendance at the WHCD. Psaki provides Corden with talking points for his White House press conference – such as "War with Russia: bad," and "CDC: good."

Biden then took the podium and addressed his dismal approval rating by giving "a special thanks to the 42% of you who actually applauded." He then mocked journalists as the "only group of Americans with a lower approval rating than I have."

Biden noted that the 2022 White House Correspondents' Dinner was the first time a sitting U.S. president attended the event since 2016 because former President Donald Trump boycotted the WHCD during his presidency.

Biden then insinuated that the Trump presidency was a "plague."

"This is the first time a president has attended this dinner in six years," Biden said. "It's understandable, we had a horrible plague followed by two years of COVID."

The president then said that if Trump had attended the event, it would have been a "real coup" – a joke about the Jan. 6 riot, which Biden previously called an "armed insurrection" on a day that "democracy was attacked."

Biden then quipped, "I'm not here to roast the GOP. That's not my style. Besides, there's nothing I can say about the GOP that Kevin McCarthy hasn't already put on tape."

The president acknowledged the anti-Biden slogan "Let's go Brandon."

"Republicans seem to support one fellow," Biden said. "Some guy named Brandon. He's having a really good year. And I'm kind of happy for him."

Biden took aim at possible 2024 GOP presidential candidate and current Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis over his handling of Disney's fight against the Parental Rights in Education law.

While flubbing Ronald Regan's iconic "tear down this wall" speech from 1987, Biden declared, "Ronald Reagan said, 'Mr. Gorbachev, tear this wall down!' Today’s Republicans say, 'Tear down Mickey Mouse's house!' And pretty soon they’ll be storming Cinderella's castle, and you can be sure of it."

Trevor Noah began his monologue by calling out the hypocrisy of press members attending a packed indoor event.

"It is my great honor to be speaking tonight at the nation's most distinguished superspreader event," Noah stated. "For real, what are we doing here? Did none of you learn anything from the Gridiron dinner? Nothing?”

Noah is referencing the corporate media dinner held last month that even MSNBC labeled as a "superspreader event." At least 72 people who attended the event tested positive for COVID-19, including Attorney General Merrick Garland and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

Noah lambasted the press, "Do you read any of your own newspapers? I mean, I expect this out of Sean Hannity, but the rest of you? What are you doing here?

The "Daily Show" host highlighted the media's hypocrisy on COVID-19 precautions, "You guys spent the last two years telling everyone the importance of wearing masks and avoiding large indoor gatherings, then the second someone offers you a free dinner, you all turn into Joe Rogan.”

"I mean, Dr. Fauci dropped out," the comedian continued. "That should have been a pretty big sign."

"Fauci thought it was too dangerous to come tonight," Noah stated, before adding, "Pete Davidson thought it was okay. And we all went with Pete. Okay. Alright then."

Washington Post reporter Jada Yuan said the jam-packed room is "like a horror film."

"Literally getting trapped between tables," Yuan wrote on Twitter. "Fear of breathing near people but people are everywhere. Creeping sense that you’re the only one who know this is insane."

Noah mocked the president for the historic inflation that is causing financial ruin for Americans – which garnered laughter from the audience and Biden.

"Ever since you've come into office things are really looking up," Noah began. "Gas is up. Rent is up. Food is up. Everything."

Noah needled former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo and his cozy on-air relationship with his older brother – former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

"Some people think that this [dinner] shows that the media is too cozy with politicians, but what those people don’t understand is that you guys have integrity," Noah said. "You would never allow personal connections to affect your ability to be good journalists — isn’t that right Chris Cuomo. Where is Chris Cuomo, by the way, is he here?”

The Comedy Central talk show host skewered Jen Psaki about joining MSNBC, "When Trump was in office, your show was all about how bad he was. And now Biden is in office, your show is about how bad Trump was."

At #WHCD, Trevor Noah joked about Psacki joining MSNBC and actually took a mild shot at the left wing channel: “When Trump was in office, your show was all about how bad he was. And now Biden is in office, your show is about how bad Trump was.”pic.twitter.com/uestzYQanh

"Interesting fact: Even as first lady Dr. Biden continued her teaching career, the first time a presidential spouse has ever done so," he said of Jill Biden. "Congratulations. Now, you might think it's because she loves teaching so much, but it’s actually because she's still paying off her student debt. I'm sorry about that, Jill. Yeah, I guess you should've voted for Bernie."

To conclude the festivities, Noah took a parting shot at Biden's tumultuous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

"Please be careful leaving tonight. We all know this administration doesn't handle evacuations well," Noah signed off.

COVID rules find unlikely critic in Trevor Noah, who exposes absurdity of NYC's protocols: 'S**t like this makes zero sense'

Absurd COVID-19 rules in New York City found an unlikely critic this week: liberal comedian Trevor Noah.

Noah, host of Comedy Central's "The Daily Show," railed against nonsensical pandemic-related rules that forced Brooklyn Nets star point guard Kyrie Irving to be sidelined.

What happened with Irving?

The NBA fined the Brooklyn Nets $50,000 after Irving was allowed into the team locker room during a game on Sunday. The crime? Irving is not vaccinated against COVID-19, and thus he is not permitted to mingle with his teammates at the Barclays Center, the Nets' home court.

Highlighting the absurdity of NYC's COVID rules, Irving sat court-side without a face mask during the same game.

Under current New York City COVID laws, Irving cannot play in games at Barclays Center because Mayor Eric Adams (D) has refused to rescind a vaccine mandate for in-person workers. "Workers in New York City who perform in-person work or interact with the public in the course of business must show proof that they have received a COVID-19 vaccine.Businesses may not allow any unvaccinated workers to work at their workplace," the mandate says.

What did Noah say?

The liberal comedian normally parrots progressive talking points. But he sounded more like a conservative on his show Monday night.

"Restrictions are being lifted so quickly that things are getting a little confusing," Noah began. "Right here in New York City, Mayor Eric Adams had lifted the rule that you had to be vaccinated to attend indoor events," Noah explained. "But there is still a rule that you have to be vaccinated to go to your workplace, so if someone's job is at an indoor event, they can't go to work — but they can show up to work to watch their colleagues do their thing."

"I don't care like how COVID-compliant you are, s**t like this makes zero sense," Noah slammed. "Can we agree on that?"

"So Kyrie can go inside, not wear a mask, even hug a teammate, but he cannot play? I don't get it," Noah continued. "Does the ball have a weak immune system? What's going on? I mean, it's crazy."

"Just think about it, just think about it: Kyrie can't play, but he can sit in the stands — like a fan," he added. "And then as a fan what happens if he gets picked to take the half-court shot to win the car?" Noah asked. "Can he do that? What are those rules? How does it work?"

Adams admitted last month that New York City's rule preventing Irving from playing is "unfair." Still, he does not want to rescind it because doing so now would "send mixed messages."

'The Daily Show' deleted a meme mocking Biden at his SOTU address after its fans flipped out

The official account of "The Daily Show" tweeted a meme during the State of the Union address that mocked President Joe Biden for being low energy, but deleted it soon after.

Biden went through the typical laundry list of items for his first State of the Union speech Tuesday, but the Daily Show account offered a critique that it regretted.

While it was deleted later, screenshots were circulated on social media:

Hey @TheDailyShow, why did you delete this?pic.twitter.com/VlTp0rBQK5
— Jewish Patriot 🚛 (@Jewish Patriot 🚛) 1646192332

The meme showed the graphic of an iPhone battery out of power and needing to be plugged in to recharge.

The account offered no rationale for why it deleted the tweet, but it suspiciously hearkened to the nickname that former President Donald Trump slapped Biden with during the 2020 presidential campaign: "Sleepy Joe."

The show might have deleted the tweet based on some of the very angry responses from their followers.

"What was that deleted tweet about being 'low battery'… how very republican rhetoric from you," replied one user.

"WTH?? Seriously you deleted this, you must be standing with the GOP," responded another user.

"Nice job with the battery. He actually was stronger at the end. What a jerk. I would like to see you do what he has done over the past year," read another angry reply.

"What the f***?!?! Who hacked this account?!? This is bulls***!!! @Trevornoah did you approve this?!?" read another outraged tweet, which referred to the show's host.

Others on the left were outraged at comments made by Biden during the speech where he vehemently opposed the "Defund the Police" movement and said that Democrats would help fund police while supporting criminal reform.

Trevor Noah says gender reveal parties are dangerous, should only happen when kids are old enough to choose gender. Ted Cruz hits back with savage burn.

"The Daily Show" host and comedian Trevor Noah says gender reveal parties should be obsolete, as children clearly aren't able to choose their genders as babies.

What are the details?

In a Tuesday monologue, Noah pointed to the California fire sparked by pyrotechnics at a gender reveal party. The fire, dubbed the El Dorado Fire, has burned more than 13,000 acres at the time of this writing.

"At this point, 'gender reveal party' is now one of the most dangerous terrorist organizations," Noah joked during the monologue. "It's ISIS, al-Qaeda, Taylor Swift fans, and gender reveals parties."

The Comedy Central host added, "Aside from all the damage it can cause, celebrating a baby's genitalia is starting to feel very outdated. Given everything we're learning about gender, gender reveal parties should only happen when the child is old enough to know their actual gender — and to pitch in some cash for the fire damage."

He also suggested that parents "do something that helps the situation" following the fire, suggesting that expectant parents attempt to douse the El Dorado fire with pink-colored water if the child is a girl, or blue-tinted water if the child is a boy.

In response, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said that many liberal men simply "never grow balls."

In a Friday tweet, Cruz on Twitter linked a tweet from The Daily Wire, which reported that Noah was apparently "offended" by gender reveal parties.

He wrote, "A fair point. Many liberal males never grow balls[.]"

'Nothing less than child abuse'

Cruz has been outspoken about his stance on biological gender, children, and parenting, and in 2019, said that parents allowing children to transition genders was a "horrifying & tragic" notion to behold.

In a tweet, the Texas Republican wrote, "This is horrifying & tragic. For a parent to subject such a young child to life-altering hormone blockers to medically transition their sex is nothing less than child abuse."
