Voters get brutally honest about how the Trump verdict backfired on Democrats: 'I'm all in with the MAGA people'

It appears that Democrats and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) have accomplished a feat that even Donald Trump couldn't for the last decade: turn "Never-Trump" voters into Trump supporters.

Trump's conviction proved to be a massive fundraising boon for his campaign. But it's also persuading Americans reluctant to support Trump in the past to vote for him in November.

'I feel the need to send a message to the Democrats that their dirty politics will not be rewarded.'

It's the law of unintended consequences personified.

Last week, venture capitalist Shaun Maguire made headlines with his six-figure donation to Trump's campaign in the wake of the verdict. In a new interview, Maguire told the Free Press that it wasn't necessarily the verdict that persuaded him to support Trump — but Democrats' lawfare against the former president.

"We were told that Donald Trump would be the end of democracy, but it turns out that lawfare tactics have been escalated by the Democrats and not by the Republicans," he told the news outlet. "And so it’s from that backdrop that I believe the Republican Party is less of a danger to democracy than the Democratic Party right now."

Jack MacGuire, a 48-year-old travel consultant from Texas, voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016 and once "couldn't stand Trump." But everything changed for him when Trump began to be targeted with criminal prosecutions.

"What happened has every level of corruption and deceit and a willingness to use whatever means necessary to stay in power," MacGuire told the Free Press. "It just absolutely galvanized me to say enough is enough. I’m all in with the MAGA people because this has to end."

Kate Nitti, a lifelong Democrat who lives in New Jersey, told the Free Press that she is now considering voting for Trump.

"I feel the need to send a message to the Democrats that their dirty politics will not be rewarded," Nitti said.

"I'm no fan of Trump. That said, I have a huge problem with contorting the law or using prosecutorial authority in the name of ‘saving democracy,’ which has been the Democrats’ message for the past four years," she explained.

President Joe Biden's campaign argues that Trump is a threat to democracy. Americans, therefore, must vote for him if they want to preserve democracy, the campaign says.

But Adam Mortara told the Free Press the true danger to America is Biden and the Democrats.

"What’s gotten me off the sidelines is that if he does not win, and by a rather sizable margin, that will validate this type of weaponization of the judicial system in the future," said Mortara, a lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School.

"Before, I would’ve said it’s not a danger to America if Joe Biden wins the election," he added. "Now, I kind of think it is."

Maine state Sen. Eric Brakey (R) agreed with Mortara's analysis, describing the Trump verdict as "a very blatant attack on democracy itself."

"Democrats don't preserve democracy," Brakey told the Free Press. "They're afraid that the people, when presented a democratic choice, will not vote for them."

Voters are not only supporting Trump with their words, but they're also throwing their hard-earned dollars behind his campaign effort. In the 24 hours after Trump was convicted, his campaign raised $53 million in small-cash donations — a third of which came from first-time donors.

‘No one is above the law’ except for the president and his son

If you’ve been lucky enough to witness the left gloating over Donald Trump’s conviction, then you’ve probably heard the phrase “no one is above the law.”

But it seems that might be far from the truth.

“The only people we know that are above the law are the president and his son. They’re above the law, but nobody else,” Pat Gray says.

While both the president and his son Hunter Biden have seemed to skirt the law on multiple occasions — Hunter is on trial this week.

Hunter is currently charged with one count of making false statements in a firearm purchase, another count of making a false statement related to information required to be kept by a licensed firearm dealer, and one count of possession of a firearm by a person who is an unlawful user or addicted to a controlled substance.

If the president’s son is found guilty, he could be facing a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison.

“We’ll see what happens there,” Gray says, skeptical he’ll end up convicted.

“And then he’s got the other one, the IRS one is in September,” Keith Malinak comments.

While “no one is above the law” will continue to be parroted anyways, Malinak and Gray can’t help but notice that the justice system wasn’t exactly geared up to actually deliver justice in Trump’s case.

They believe it was rigged to begin with.

“I mean you’ve got people from the Department of Justice working with Alvin Bragg, you’ve got all the stuff about the judge’s daughter and the judge himself,” Malinak says. “This is third-world banana republic stuff here.”

Can the Democrats scare the Supreme Court out of hearing Trump’s appeal?

Donald Trump has been convicted on 34 counts in his New York hush-money trial — and Americans everywhere are horrified.

Not only because the former president may be going to prison, but the additional looming consequences could be game-changing.

“I think it also will be used as the excuse for Joe Biden not debating him. ‘I don’t debate a felon,’” Glenn Beck predicts, mocking Biden.

“They’re moving past this and they’re moving to the Supreme Court,” Glenn continues. “They are launching cannon balls at the ship, saying, ‘Don’t you dare get involved in this trial.’”

“They sent the message to Alito and Thomas and everybody else, ‘Back off, stay down,’” he explains.

“That’s the entire point of this process, in a nutshell, is intimidation. Telling them to back down, do not stand in our way,” Glenn’s chief researcher, Jason Buttrill, agrees.

“I’m glad you talk about this going to the Supreme Court. This is absolutely getting appealed,” Buttrill says. “But first he has to go to sentencing. Now, normally, in a sane world, I would say you know he’s only going to get probation, maybe at the very worst like house arrest.”

While the Democrats are doing everything they can to keep Trump out of the White House, their plan might be backfiring when it comes to their support.

“People who didn’t vote and don’t like Donald Trump, I’ve seen them yesterday give and commit to voting for him,” Glenn says, adding that however, “there is a chance this works out horribly.”

Missouri AG Andrew Bailey: Trump trial an ‘illicit witch hunt,' jury 'a roving commission'

Jurors in former president Donald Trump’s New York hush-money trial have deliberated on whether or not to convict him — and they did.

However, Glenn Beck believes there are some major issues.

“Four of them can say, ‘I think you know he falsified checks,’ whatever they think the crime is because it wasn’t really defined. Even if they don’t agree on the crime, if 12 of them think he committed some crime, well, then he’s guilty. I’ve never heard that before,” Glenn says.

Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is in agreement.

“This reeks of desperation by the prosecutor and the judge to obtain a conviction. If people were not previously convinced that this was an illicit witch hunt prosecution, they should be so now,” Bailey says. “This is insane.”

Bailey notes that this violates the Sixth Amendment as well as the former president’s Due Process rights.

“How’s he supposed to know how to offer a defense if he doesn’t even know what the target crime is?” Bailey says.

“It empowers this jury to become a roving commission, and again, that reeks of desperation.”

“That violates the basic constitutional tenets that underpin the Due Process Clause and the Sixth Amendment right to a jury trial,” he says.

What has happened reminds Bailey of a story from the past.

“There was a Roman emperor who used to nail the laws to the highest point on the columns so that the Roman citizens wouldn’t be able to read them. And that’s what this is like. I mean, the judge is saying, ‘Jury, I’m going to charge you to find a crime, any crime you want, and I’m not gonna let you read the jury instructions. Trust me, you guys, just go back and pick something you want to convict him of,’” Bailey tells Glenn.

“How is the jury supposed to apply facts to the law if they can’t see the law in front of them?"

President Trump found guilty. What happens now?

On Thursday afternoon, former President Donald Trump was found guilty of 34 felony counts related to so-called hush-money payments to his former lawyer, Michael Cohen, in connection with an alleged affair with porn actress Stormy Daniels.

Legal analyst Jonathan Turley claimed the verdict "saddened" him. "I had hoped that the jurors might redeem the integrity of a system that has been used for political purposes," Turley wrote on X.

I obviously disagree with this verdict as do many others. I believe that the case will be reversed eventually either in the state or federal systems. However, this was the worst expectation for a trial in Manhattan. I am saddened by the result more for the New York legal system…

So, what does this conviction mean for Trump in the immediate future with Election Day 2024 looming on the horizon?

Sentencing

Judge Juan Merchan requested that the prosecution and defense file their motions, which will include sentencing recommendations, by June 13.

She added that a jail sentence for Trump 'would have political implications that ... Judge Merchan would want to avoid.'

He also scheduled Trump's sentencing hearing for 10 a.m. on July 11. Trump's lawyers have the option of asking for a later date, perhaps even after the November election, but such a request is likely to be denied.

Between now and July 11, Trump will be able to move about as he pleases. He will also no longer have to adhere to gag-order restrictions which previously prevented him from discussing witnesses or the judge and his family members. Trump has previously noted that Merchan's daughter is a political consultant who raises funds for high-profile Democrats such as Rep. Adam Schiff of California.

Trump will also likely participate in a pre-sentencing interview with a probation officer, who will then submit a sentencing report to Merchan.

Judge Merchan will have almost exclusive authority to determine Trump's sentence, and he has several options to consider, including jail.

Though Trump has been convicted of 34 felonies, they are nonviolent, class E felonies, the least serious in the state of New York, and often don't result in jail time. Trump also has no prior criminal record and at 77 years old is not likely to be a threat to the public, all factors that could play in his favor.

Cheryl Bader, a law professor at Fordham University, thinks it's "unlikely" that Merchan will give Trump time behind bars. "Given that he is a former president, has a Secret Service detail and is also the presumptive Republican nominee, I think a term of incarceration would be logistically very difficult," she told the Guardian,

She added that a jail sentence for Trump "would have political implications that ... Judge Merchan would want to avoid."

Merchan has previously expressed a disinclination to send Trump to jail. On May 6, after Trump had allegedly violated aspects of the gag order issued against him, Merchan told Trump: "The last thing I want to do is to put you in jail. You are the former president of the United States and possibly the next president, as well." Merchan ultimately ended up fining Trump $1,000 per alleged violation, as Blaze News previously reported.

In addition to a possible jail sentence, Trump could receive probation, fines, and/or community service. "I would like to see community service – picking up trash on the subway," said Karen Friedman Agnifilo, a former top prosecutor in the Manhattan district attorney’s office.

Appeal

Whatever the sentence, Trump will almost assuredly appeal his conviction. The first step would be to file an appeal in the New York Appellate Division’s First Judicial Department. If that court upholds the conviction, he can then appeal to the Court of Appeals, New York’s highest court.

Should that court also uphold the conviction, Trump may even take his case to the U.S. Supreme Court. However, to have SCOTUS justices agree to take it, Trump's attorneys must first convince them that the case, decided by a Manhattan jury, is a federal or constitutional matter.

Such processes can take months or even years. During that time, the actual imposition of Trump's sentence is likely to be delayed.

Campaign

The Constitution does not bar felons from running for president, so this conviction should have no bearing on Trump's attempt at securing a second term this November.

If anything, Trump seems more determined than ever to make his case to the American voters.

"This was a rigged, disgraceful trial," he said after the verdict on Thursday. "The real verdict is going to be November 5 by the people. And they know what happened here, and everybody knows what happened here. You have a Soros-backed DA, and the whole thing, we didn’t do a thing wrong."

"It’s okay. I’m fighting for our country," he continued. "I’m fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to move or hurt an opponent, a political opponent. And I think it’s just a disgrace. And we’ll keep fighting; we’ll fight to the end, and we’ll win. Because our country has gone to hell."

Should he win and take office next January, Trump will be unable to pardon himself in this case since it is currently a state issue, not a federal one.

Republican donation platform crashes from overwhelming demand after jury drops guilty verdict against Trump

The main donation platform for the Republican Party crashed under the overwhelming demand after a Manhattan jury found former President Donald Trump guilty of 34 counts of falsifying business records.

"The American people see through Crooked Joe Biden's rigged show trial. So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump's campaign that the WinRed pages went down," read a post from the Trump campaign on Thursday.

'Our country has gone to hell.'

"We are working on getting the website back online as quickly as possible. Stay strong," the statement continued.

Others confirmed the website crash by posting screenshots of their unsuccessful attempts to reach WinRed. About an hour later, the website was reported as operational.

Some saw it as a sign that the verdict was only sparking passionate support in favor of Trump's campaign.

"WinRed just CRASHED because so many people are donating to Trump right now. The Democrats have NO IDEA what they’ve just started," said Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado.

But others saw it as a very inconvenient time for the campaign to be unable to accept donations.

"Trump’s WinRed page (where he receives donations) is down," said reporter Yashar Ali. "This means he can’t take in any donations at a particularly helpful time to haul in cash."

'The American people face a simple reality.'

After the verdict, President Joe Biden issued a statement saying that the real verdict would be reached at the polls in November.

"In New York today, we saw that no one is above the law," said the statement in part. "Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today's verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box."

Trump said the same in a fiery statement outside of the courthouse to the assembled media.

"This was a rigged, disgraceful trial. The real verdict is going to be November 5 by the people," he said.

"I’m fighting for our country. I’m fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now," Trump claimed. "This was done by the Biden administration in order to move or hurt an opponent, a political opponent. And I think it’s just a disgrace. And we’ll keep fighting; we’ll fight to the end, and we’ll win. Because our country has gone to hell."

Biden issues statement on Trump verdict: 'We saw that no one is above the law'

President Joe Biden released a statement after a jury returned their verdict of 34 guilty counts against former President Donald Trump from a Manhattan court Thursday.

Trump was convicted by a jury after less than two days of deliberation in the criminal case involving a hush-money payment paid to adult film worker Stormy Daniels.

'An increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution.'

"In New York today, we saw that no one is above the law," Biden's statement said. "Donald Trump has always mistakenly believed he would never face consequences for breaking the law for his own personal gain. But today's verdict does not change the fact that the American people face a simple reality. There is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: at the ballot box."

Ironically, Trump appeared to be in agreement with the Biden campaign that the ultimate verdict should be made at the ballot box. The former president railed against the verdict in comments made to the media at the courthouse.

"Convicted felon or not, Trump will be the Republican nominee for president," Biden's statement continued.

"The threat Trump poses to our democracy has never been greater. He is running an increasingly unhinged campaign of revenge and retribution, pledging to be a dictator 'on day one' and calling for our Constitution to be 'terminated' so he can regain and keep power. A second Trump term means chaos, ripping away Americans (sic) freedoms and fomenting political violence - and the American people will reject it this November."

'Our country has gone to hell.'

Trump maintained his innocence in his fiery comments after the verdict where he accused the Biden administration of orchestrating the prosecution.

"It’s okay. I’m fighting for our country. I’m fighting for our Constitution. Our whole country is being rigged right now. This was done by the Biden administration in order to move or hurt an opponent, a political opponent," said Trump.

"And I think it’s just a disgrace. And we’ll keep fighting," he continued, "we’ll fight to the end, and we’ll win. Because our country has gone to hell."

On Wednesday, Trump lambasted a Fox News anchor for arguing with his attorney that the Biden administration had not interfered in the criminal cases filed against the former president.

In September, a judge found that Trump had inappropriately exaggerated his real estate holdings in order to falsely obtain preferential insurance and financing from banks and other institutions.

The former president is also facing criminal charges over accusations that he illegally tried to overturn the official results of the 2020 presidential election.
