Armed carjackers meet their match as gun-toting victim turns the tables, shoots the crooks — among them a 14-year-old male

A crew of carjackers most definitely picked the wrong guy to steal from in Seattle over the weekend.

Officers around 3:30 a.m. Sunday responded to a shooting in the 2200 block of 1st Avenue, police said.

'Stories like this just warm my heart. I love a happy ending.'

Officers found a suspect suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and detained him, police said, adding that they also detained the victim — a licensed gun owner — for questioning and recovered the firearm.

Firefighters responded with police and provided medical aid to the suspect, police said, adding that medics transported him to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition. Police said the suspect was under armed guard by officers.

Police determined that the victim parked his sports car along 1st Avenue when the driver of a white sedan approached him.

Four individuals wearing face masks were in the vehicle, police said, adding that after a short conversation, two males armed with guns tried to steal the victim's car.

Fearing for his safety, the victim fired multiple rounds, striking one of the suspects, police said.

The remaining suspects fled the area in the sedan before police arrived.

While they were investigating, police said the driver of a white sedan dropped off a second suspect at Harborview Medical Center. The second suspect also had been shot, was in serious condition, and was under armed guard, police said.

The driver of the sedan fled before officers arrived, police said.

One of the wounded suspects is a 14-year-old male, while the other is a 20-year-old male, KING-TV reported, citing police.

Both wounded suspects will be booked into custody when they are released from the hospital, the station noted.

Officers and robbery detectives processed the scene, collected evidence, and spoke to witnesses, police said, adding that officers took the victim to Seattle Police headquarters, where detectives interviewed him; he was then released. KING said the victim is 24 years old.

Police said the case is an open and active investigation assigned to the Robbery Unit.

More than 3,000 comments have flooded KING's Facebook post about the shooting, and as you might expect, folks seem quite happy about the outcome. The following are a few of their reactions.

  • "Not every hero wears a cape," one commenter said.
  • "The vehicle owner doing the Lord's work," another user noted.
  • "Awesome story," another commenter wrote before adding "buy that man a beer."
  • "Stories like this just warm my heart," another user gushed. "I love a happy ending."
  • "FAFO! Whahahaha! I love it!!!" another user exclaimed.
  • "When you allow your streets to become the Wild West, sometimes you run into Wyatt Earp," another commenter observed.

Gun-wielding thug demands Rolex from man. But victim allegedly is a retired wrestler — and the tables are about to turn.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department told Blaze News that deputies responded just before 1 p.m. Wednesday to the 900 block of North Sweetzer Avenue in West Hollywood regarding an armed robbery call.

According to the victim, a dark-colored sedan was seen traveling down the street at a high rate of speed before stopping near his location, authorities said.

The driver didn't need directions.

'At one point the guy’s arm got dislocated ...'

The sheriff's department told Blaze News that an adult black male wearing a mask exited the vehicle holding a semiautomatic handgun and demanded the victim’s Rolex watch.

But the victim refused to comply, and a physical struggle ensued, authorities said.

Patrick McCloskey told KTLA-TV he was working from home when he heard a woman screaming from the sidewalk: “The chaos was so intense, I didn’t know who jumped who. I ran to the door to see what was happening. At that point, I hear her yell, ‘Get the gun, get the gun!’”

Apparently getting hold of the gun wasn't too difficult for the victim, as McCloskey explained to the station that the gunman "didn’t know that the guy was a retired wrestler. So he was able to get the gun off the guy and wrestle him down.”

Video of the incident's aftermath shows the victim — who didn't want to be identified — telling a deputy that he grabbed the gunman’s wrist and put him on the ground before taking the gun away, KTLA reported.

The victim's girlfriend then threw the gun over a nearby fence, and he held the suspect down until police arrived, the station said.

The sheriff's department told Blaze News that a second adult male suspect exited the vehicle during the struggle but fled the scene in the dark-colored sedan prior to the arrival of deputies.

Responding deputies recovered the gun and took the suspect into custody without further incident, officials said.

“I was told the gun was loaded,” McCloskey noted to KTLA. “The guy who is sort of the hero in all of this, who was able to pin the guy down, told me he saw a bullet in the chamber.”

McCloskey added to the station that the retired wrestler showed no mercy in his struggle with the gunman: “At one point the guy’s arm got dislocated, and he just held him down."

Video that KTLA obtained from the scene shows deputies arresting the suspect and recovering the gun allegedly used during the incident, the station said.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the investigation is urged to contact LASD’s West Hollywood Station, KTLA added.

Commenters on KTLA's Facebook post about the ordeal seemed pleased with the outcome:

  • "FAFO at its best. Way to go!" one commenter said.
  • "This is why California needs to be open carry like Texas!" another user declared.
  • "Need more people like this hero to fight back!" another commenter said.
  • "You never know who you messing with," another user observed.
  • "News like this [is] soooooo satisfying!" another commenter exclaimed.

Blaze News had asked the sheriff's department for the name of the suspect as well as his age, charge or charges against him, any past offenses, and his arrest photo, but officials did not provide that information.

Man slashed in NYC subway — reportedly after staring match — chases down attacker, turns the tables on him in lethal fashion

An unidentified 24-year-old man and his friend began arguing with a third male in the 14th Street Subway Station in Manhattan just after 7 p.m. Saturday, the NYPD told the New York Post.

According to amNY, a staring match preceded the dispute.

'I will never ride the train again. It's not safe.'

Police told the Post that the third male pulled out a knife and slashed the 24-year-old man in the lower torso and then ran away through the station’s mezzanine level.

With that, the 24-year-old man and his friend — a 20-year-old, amNY noted — chased down the third male who carried out the slashing and grabbed his knife, and one of the two other men stabbed the third male in the chest with that knife, sources told the paper.

WABC-TV reported that it appears the 24-year-old man who was initially slashed carried out the stabbing against the third male.

The alleged initial assailant and the 24-year-old man were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where the initial slasher was pronounced dead, and the 24-year-old was in stable condition, the Post reported, citing police.

The paper added that two people are in custody but have not been charged. AmNY said the 24-year-old and the 20-year-old are being questioned.

The male who died has not yet been identified, WABC reported.

  • "Things should get better once free grocery stores and a [downsize] in police services take effect with a new mayor," another commenter added sarcastically.
  • "With all these knife crimes I'd think there'd be more calls for more knife control," another commenter reacted with tongue fully in cheek.
  • "No charges," another commenter declared. "Self-defense."
  • "There's truly something wicked going on ..." another commenter observed.
  • "It's just too much violence going on in the subway," another commenter shared. "I will never ride the train again. It's not safe."
  • "Should have not pulled the knife out," another commenter stated before adding that "you get what you ask for."

Man in wheelchair grabs gun during home invasion — then shocks crook with rare physical feat

Police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, told Blaze News that a male was suspected of having committed a string of crimes Monday morning.

Police said Michael Salas broke into a home, led police on a car chase, and then fled on foot before arriving at an apartment on the southeast side of the city, KRQE-TV reported.

'Please don't touch me. Please get out of my house.'

Suddenly, Salas barged into the unit — and encountered wheelchair-bound Anthony Nichogi, who was in the residence with his young son, the station said.

Nichogi's wife had left the front door unlocked when she departed, KRQE said, adding that Salas burst inside only a minute later.

"I was in fear for my life and my son," Nichogi told the station, adding that Salas "reached for me, and I told him, 'Please don't touch me. Please get out of my house.'"

KRQE said Salas has a long rap sheet full of burglary arrests and convictions.

Burglaries are nothing new for Nichogi, who told the station his neighborhood has suffered many of them — and he was prepared: "You know, I have video footage of all the five years' worth of incidents, and I'm expecting it."

Nichogi repeatedly told Salas to get out, KRQE said, adding that he soon motored on his electric wheelchair to the bedroom to get mace.

But it wouldn't be so easy.

"I turned my chair around, and as I went into the bedroom to go unlock it and retrieve it, he followed me into the bedroom," Nichogi explained to the station.

With that, Nichogi opted for a more powerful means of self-defense. He instead grabbed his gun, KRQE said.

And that wasn't all.

Describing what happened next as a rush of adrenaline, Nichogi told the station he performed a rare physical feat: He got up from his wheelchair and commanded Salas to leave.

Indeed, video shows a clearly unnerved Salas putting up his hands and retreating to the front door as Nichogi points a gun at him and walks after him, even following Salas out of the apartment.

"I never expected to have to defend my home like that," Nichogi added to KRQE. "This is a first for me."

The medical condition that necessitates his wheelchair use is not clear.

Police told the station that officers had been following Salas after deploying a GPS dart on his car and then pursued him on foot.

Police added to KRQE that Salas was found on a roof next door and arrested.

According to jail information police provided to Blaze News, Salas on Wednesday remained incarcerated in Bernalillo County's Metropolitan Detention Center on no bail. Salas, 40, was charged with aggravated burglary with a deadly weapon, burglary, reckless driving, and resisting, evading, or obstructing an officer. He also has a warrant for burglary from an automobile.

Police told KRQE that Salas had an accomplice with him — Christina Herrera — who is facing a residential burglary charge.

DA reacts to store clerk fatally shooting 16-year-old armed robber: 'Once somebody puts a gun in your face, the rules change'

A pair of males armed with guns entered a New Orleans convenience store Tuesday evening and demanded cash, a store employee told WWL-TV.

One of them — 16-year-old Cecil Batiz — was seen on surveillance video pointing a gun with an extended magazine at a clerk working the cell phone counter at Sam's Meat Market and stuffing cash and other items in his pockets, the station said in a follow-up story.

'That clerk was in an obviously high-stress situation and saw the perpetrator still moving with a gun, and it's hard to second-guess his decision to use deadly force yet again.'

The other suspect, 18-year-old Teony Juarez, was wearing a black ski mask, WWL said.

As the suspects exited the store, the clerk at the phone counter pulled out a gun and opened fire, the station said. Batiz was struck in the abdomen, after which he collapsed, WWL reported.

Surveillance video also shows the clerk move out of camera range and return seconds later, shooting Batiz two more times as he moved on the store's floor, the station said. Batiz later died at a hospital, WWL reported.

The station, citing the initial police report, said Juarez returned fire and was struck in the right forearm as he ran from the store. WWL said an unknown woman drove Juarez to a hospital and departed as he entered. Juarez was treated for a gunshot wound, and police arrested him, the station said.

Juarez faces charges including armed robbery, aggravated battery, and illegal use of a weapon, WWL said, adding that his bond was set at $170,000.

The station said the clerk so far has not been charged.

Loyola Law Professor Dane Ciolino told WWL he doubts a charge against the clerk will come to pass: "That clerk was in an obviously high-stress situation and saw the perpetrator still moving with a gun, and it's hard to second-guess his decision to use deadly force yet again."

Ciolino added to the station that in Louisiana, unlike other jurisdictions, Juarez can't be held accountable for Batiz's death: "He can't be charged with a homicide crime because this killing was done by the victim rather than by a co-felon."

You can view a video report here that shows surveillance video of the armed robbery and shooting.

What did the district attorney have to say?

WWL said Orleans Parish District Attorney Jason Williams declined to discuss specifics about the case — but he did tell WWL Radio that "once somebody puts a gun in your face, the rules change."

Williams added that "it's painfully obvious to anyone who saw that video what those two people were doing in that store, and that shop owner did not ask for that exchange," the station noted.

As readers of Blaze News may recall, George Soros gave $220,000 to a Williams PAC, leading to his successful election in December 2020 on a criminal justice reform platform. But in October 2023, a pair of armed suspects carjacked Williams, and the Democrat's 78-year-old mother was in the black Lincoln Navigator at the time of the crime. The crooks stole some of his mother’s belongings, including her wallet and phone.

A month after the carjacking, Williams told WWL-TV he changed his thinking about crime and punishment, with the station saying he's "even reversed his positions on some of his strongest campaign promises." Williams recused himself from working on the carjacking case.

Quick-thinking robbery victim turns the tables on 2 gun-toting crooks — a male and female — behind Memphis hotel

A quick-thinking robbery victim turned the tables on a male and female who pulled guns on him early Friday morning behind a Memphis hotel.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 6:15 a.m. at the Classic Inn on American Way, WMC-TV reported, citing the Memphis Police Department.

But when the gun-toting male and female turned around at the sound of a loud noise in the distance, the victim grabbed the female’s gun ...

Police found a male shot multiple times and a female shot in her upper arm, WMC said, adding that both were hospitalized — the male in critical condition and the female in non-critical condition.

The station said another call came in from behind the hotel on Fairbrook Avenue, where police met a man who told officers he was the one who fired at the male and female — but that they tried to rob him.

The man said he arrived at the hotel earlier that morning to meet with the female who eventually was shot and hospitalized, WMC said.

The man said the female — wrapped in a blanket — approached him and asked if he was armed, the station reported.

After he said he wasn't armed, she reportedly lured him to the back of the building and gave him the impression that they were going to her car, WMC noted.

But just as he noticed there was no vehicle, the female pulled a gun on him, demanding that he turn over his property, the station said, adding that he said a male then appeared, also pointing a gun at him.

The victim said he complied and threw his wallet on the ground, WMC reported.

Script suddenly is flipped

But when the gun-toting male and female turned around at the sound of a loud noise in the distance, the victim grabbed the female’s gun, after which her accomplice opened fire at the victim, the station said.

But her accomplice missed, and the victim returned fire, hitting both of them, WMC reported.

The victim took off running but wasn't physically injured, WREG-TV reported, adding that a police report indicated one of the suspects was connected to another report police already had taken.

According to WMC, police said all three individuals were detained.

Gene Perry was charged with aggravated robbery and convicted felon in possession of a handgun, WREG said, adding that he was being held on a $360,000 bond.

Alexius Deberry was charged with aggravated robbery, and she was being held on a $100,000 bond, WREG said, adding that her mug shot was not available.

Those with information about the incident are asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH, WHBQ-TV reported.

'Punk didn’t even have a clip in the gun': Man turns the tables on attackers, grabbing gun away and pistol-whipping them

An Ohio armed robbery victim turned the tables on his attackers last month, grabbing a gun away and then pistol-whipping them before police arrived, Cleveland.com reported.

Accused gunman Velonte Barnes, 25, of Cleveland Heights approached a 29-year-old shopper a BP convenience store on Monticello Boulevard in South Euclid on the afternoon of July 6, police told the outlet.

Police said the trio began wrestling on the floor, and the victim grabbed the gun from Barnes and used it to pistol-whip both attackers, the outlet noted.

At the beverage cooler, Barnes stuck a gun on the man’s stomach, grabbed the victim’s keys from his pocket, and headed toward the store entrance, Cleveland.com said, citing a police report.

But police said the victim followed Barnes and tried to rip the gun from his hands, the outlet reported, which resulted in a brawl caught on camera.

Police said a second suspect — 35-year-old Leroy Buchanan — entered the store, shoved the victim against a fountain drink dispenser while Barnes knocked the victim into a coffee machine, after which a pot of hot coffee spilled on the victim, Cleveland.com reported.

Police said the trio began wrestling on the floor, and the victim grabbed the gun from Barnes and used it to pistol-whip both attackers, the outlet noted.

Buchanan got back on his feet, chased the victim into a corner, and began punching him, Cleveland.com said, citing authorities.

With that, a third suspect — 33-year-old Sean Buchanan, Leroy's younger brother — entered the store, shoved the victim against the drink dispenser, and punched the victim's head and body, the outlet said, citing police.

In addition, Barnes picked up a glass coffee pot and slammed it against the victim’s head, shattering it, police told Cleveland.com.

Authorities said the victim dropped to the floor, and the Buchanans kept beating him, the outlet reported.

After police arrived, the victim told officers he had never seen his attackers before, Cleveland.com said, citing the police report. He added to officers that after he grabbed Barnes’ gun, he realized he couldn’t fire it because it wasn’t loaded, the outlet said.

“The punk didn’t even have a clip in the gun,” the victim added to police, Cleveland.com said, citing their report.

Police said the victim suffered injuries to his face and eyes and a coffee burn to his shoulder, the outlet noted.

Barnes failed to appear for his late-July arraignment after he also was charged with several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com said.

The Buchanans of South Euclid were arrested shortly after the incident, Cleveland.com said.

Police said Leroy Buchanan received head stitches and told officers he was trying to defend his brother and himself, the outlet reported.

The Buchanans were soon arraigned on several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com reported, adding that both brothers pleaded not guilty and were placed on $100,000 bonds.

Last in July, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Richard Bell put the Buchanan brothers on house arrest with monitoring devices, the outlet reported, adding that Cleveland.com and the Plain Dealer reached out to their attorneys for comment.

Barnes failed to appear for his late-July arraignment after he also was charged with several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com said. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, the outlet added.

Male with loaded gun tries to rob people in car. But driver also is armed — and things don't end well for alleged crook.

Police in Glendale, California, told KABC-TV a 37-year-old male with a loaded weapon tried to rob two people sitting in an SUV on Sunday night. But the driver, who also was armed, turned the tables and fatally shot the assailant.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East Dryden Street around 10:40 p.m. and found a male in the middle of the road with a single gunshot wound, police told the station.

'If somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else.'

Investigators determined that the male they found — identified Tuesday as Edward Mazon, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office — approached the pair and tried to rob them, KABC said. Police added to the station that the driver of the SUV "apparently shot Mazon, then drove away."

Mazon was pronounced dead at the scene, KABC said, and police are trying to locate the pair who were in the SUV. Authorities are viewing them as victims, not as suspects facing any murder charges, KNBC-TV said

Sgt. Vahe Abramyan, a spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department, added to KNBC that "everything's possible, but at this point, it appears that they are victims."

Police told KNBC-TV that several people called 911, and more than a dozen neighbors watched paramedics perform CPR on a man in the middle of Dryden Street near Brand Boulevard.

“I saw the EMT do the chest compressions, like furiously, [I] had no idea what was going on," resident Terri Robertson told KNBC. "And then a minute later, they're covering him with a sheet."

Robertson added to the station that if the victims were held at gunpoint, she supports them fighting back: “I would say they have to, I would say they have to, because crime is getting really crazy everywhere."

Abramyan added to KNBC that "if somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else. You are responsible ultimately for the actions that you commit, but if it's a life or death situation, that's going to be a judgment call on that person.”

Those with information about the shooting are urged to contact the Glendale Police Robbery/Homicide detectives at 818-548-3987 or the police department at 818 549-4911, KABC said.

Stabbing victim fights back, overpowers his attacker until police arrive and arrest suspect

A stabbing victim in Seattle fought back and overpowered his attacker over the weekend until police arrived and arrested the suspect.

What are the details?

Seattle police were notified of a stabbing in the Hillman City neighborhood on South Juneau Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, KCPQ-TV reported.

Arriving officers found a 27-year-old man with a stab wound to his chin, the station said, adding that first responders treated him and then took him to a hospital for the non-life-threatening wound.

Police told KCPQ the victim noticed a 39-year-old male in the middle of the street, and an altercation ensued when the victim exited his vehicle to check on the suspect.

The victim received a stab wound to the chin before overpowering the suspect, police added to the station.

First responders treated the suspect also before he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, KCPQ reported.

How are people reacting?

Commenters on the station's Facebook page in regard to the incident are not happy:

  • "Good luck keeping him in jail," one commenter said.
  • "He was just obeying the gun laws," another user remarked about the suspect. "He will be out in no time."
  • "More to come with these fine policies and leadership. Defund police and decriminalize crime," another commenter observed. "Brilliant."
  • "BAN ASSAULT KNIVES," another user declared mockingly.
  • "This is why I don't call them anymore. Useless," another commenter said of the police department. "Glad the man was stronger than his attacker and fought back."
