A 23-year-old woman fatally shot a home invasion suspect Wednesday morning in Chicago, WGN-TV reported.

Officers responded just after 6:40 a.m. to a home in the 700 block of North Laramie on the city's west side amid a report of a shooting, the station said.

One of the suspects, an unidentified male, was shot in the chest, WGN reported, adding that he was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Police believe two suspects forced their way into the home and displayed firearms, WGN noted, adding that a woman in the home pulled her own gun, and a shootout commenced.

The woman has a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card, the station said.

One of the suspects, an unidentified male, was shot in the chest, WGN reported, adding that he was pronounced dead at Mt. Sinai Hospital.

No other injuries were reported, the station said, adding that it’s unknown whether the other suspect is in custody.

Detectives are conducting a homicide investigation, WLS-TV reported.

WGN said anyone with information can leave an anonymous tip at cpdtip.com.

'She is a hero in my book!'

'Punk didn’t even have a clip in the gun': Man turns the tables on attackers, grabbing gun away and pistol-whipping them

An Ohio armed robbery victim turned the tables on his attackers last month, grabbing a gun away and then pistol-whipping them before police arrived, Cleveland.com reported.

Accused gunman Velonte Barnes, 25, of Cleveland Heights approached a 29-year-old shopper a BP convenience store on Monticello Boulevard in South Euclid on the afternoon of July 6, police told the outlet.

Police said the trio began wrestling on the floor, and the victim grabbed the gun from Barnes and used it to pistol-whip both attackers, the outlet noted.

At the beverage cooler, Barnes stuck a gun on the man’s stomach, grabbed the victim’s keys from his pocket, and headed toward the store entrance, Cleveland.com said, citing a police report.

But police said the victim followed Barnes and tried to rip the gun from his hands, the outlet reported, which resulted in a brawl caught on camera.

Police said a second suspect — 35-year-old Leroy Buchanan — entered the store, shoved the victim against a fountain drink dispenser while Barnes knocked the victim into a coffee machine, after which a pot of hot coffee spilled on the victim, Cleveland.com reported.

Police said the trio began wrestling on the floor, and the victim grabbed the gun from Barnes and used it to pistol-whip both attackers, the outlet noted.

Buchanan got back on his feet, chased the victim into a corner, and began punching him, Cleveland.com said, citing authorities.

With that, a third suspect — 33-year-old Sean Buchanan, Leroy's younger brother — entered the store, shoved the victim against the drink dispenser, and punched the victim's head and body, the outlet said, citing police.

In addition, Barnes picked up a glass coffee pot and slammed it against the victim’s head, shattering it, police told Cleveland.com.

Authorities said the victim dropped to the floor, and the Buchanans kept beating him, the outlet reported.

After police arrived, the victim told officers he had never seen his attackers before, Cleveland.com said, citing the police report. He added to officers that after he grabbed Barnes’ gun, he realized he couldn’t fire it because it wasn’t loaded, the outlet said.

“The punk didn’t even have a clip in the gun,” the victim added to police, Cleveland.com said, citing their report.

Police said the victim suffered injuries to his face and eyes and a coffee burn to his shoulder, the outlet noted.

Barnes failed to appear for his late-July arraignment after he also was charged with several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com said.

The Buchanans of South Euclid were arrested shortly after the incident, Cleveland.com said.

Police said Leroy Buchanan received head stitches and told officers he was trying to defend his brother and himself, the outlet reported.

The Buchanans were soon arraigned on several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com reported, adding that both brothers pleaded not guilty and were placed on $100,000 bonds.

Last in July, Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Richard Bell put the Buchanan brothers on house arrest with monitoring devices, the outlet reported, adding that Cleveland.com and the Plain Dealer reached out to their attorneys for comment.

Barnes failed to appear for his late-July arraignment after he also was charged with several felonies, including aggravated robbery and felonious assault, Cleveland.com said. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, the outlet added.

Male with loaded gun tries to rob people in car. But driver also is armed — and things don't end well for alleged crook.

Police in Glendale, California, told KABC-TV a 37-year-old male with a loaded weapon tried to rob two people sitting in an SUV on Sunday night. But the driver, who also was armed, turned the tables and fatally shot the assailant.

Officers responded to the 200 block of East Dryden Street around 10:40 p.m. and found a male in the middle of the road with a single gunshot wound, police told the station.

'If somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else.'

Investigators determined that the male they found — identified Tuesday as Edward Mazon, according to the Los Angeles County coroner's office — approached the pair and tried to rob them, KABC said. Police added to the station that the driver of the SUV "apparently shot Mazon, then drove away."

Mazon was pronounced dead at the scene, KABC said, and police are trying to locate the pair who were in the SUV. Authorities are viewing them as victims, not as suspects facing any murder charges, KNBC-TV said

Sgt. Vahe Abramyan, a spokesperson for the Glendale Police Department, added to KNBC that "everything's possible, but at this point, it appears that they are victims."

Police told KNBC-TV that several people called 911, and more than a dozen neighbors watched paramedics perform CPR on a man in the middle of Dryden Street near Brand Boulevard.

“I saw the EMT do the chest compressions, like furiously, [I] had no idea what was going on," resident Terri Robertson told KNBC. "And then a minute later, they're covering him with a sheet."

Robertson added to the station that if the victims were held at gunpoint, she supports them fighting back: “I would say they have to, I would say they have to, because crime is getting really crazy everywhere."

Abramyan added to KNBC that "if somebody finds themselves in a situation where their life is in danger or someone else's life is in danger, I as a ... community member, as a citizen, would do whatever I could to protect myself and anybody else. You are responsible ultimately for the actions that you commit, but if it's a life or death situation, that's going to be a judgment call on that person.”

Those with information about the shooting are urged to contact the Glendale Police Robbery/Homicide detectives at 818-548-3987 or the police department at 818 549-4911, KABC said.

Stabbing victim fights back, overpowers his attacker until police arrive and arrest suspect

A stabbing victim in Seattle fought back and overpowered his attacker over the weekend until police arrived and arrested the suspect.

What are the details?

Seattle police were notified of a stabbing in the Hillman City neighborhood on South Juneau Street near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South around 6:30 p.m. Saturday, KCPQ-TV reported.

Arriving officers found a 27-year-old man with a stab wound to his chin, the station said, adding that first responders treated him and then took him to a hospital for the non-life-threatening wound.

Police told KCPQ the victim noticed a 39-year-old male in the middle of the street, and an altercation ensued when the victim exited his vehicle to check on the suspect.

The victim received a stab wound to the chin before overpowering the suspect, police added to the station.

First responders treated the suspect also before he was booked into King County Jail for investigation of assault, KCPQ reported.

How are people reacting?

Commenters on the station's Facebook page in regard to the incident are not happy:

  • "Good luck keeping him in jail," one commenter said.
  • "He was just obeying the gun laws," another user remarked about the suspect. "He will be out in no time."
  • "More to come with these fine policies and leadership. Defund police and decriminalize crime," another commenter observed. "Brilliant."
  • "BAN ASSAULT KNIVES," another user declared mockingly.
  • "This is why I don't call them anymore. Useless," another commenter said of the police department. "Glad the man was stronger than his attacker and fought back."
  • "Endless crime in a Liberal cesspool," another user noted.

Her husband told the station that a nearby armed SUV driver — whom police identified as 39-year-old Mario Duque — repeatedly asked him, "Do you want to die tonight?" Soon Duque pistol-whipped the husband.

With that, his pregnant wife pulled a gun from her bag and shot Duque. Her husband shot him, too, KTRK said. "Thank God we had our guns," she told the station. "I've never been happier to be a gun carrier."

The victim told the station he grabbed the suspect from behind, took the gun from him, and held him on the ground until police arrived.

The Fill n' Go manager noted to WREG that he wasn’t surprised to hear the suspect only is 18 years of age: “They are getting younger and younger."

Rivarde also said Pope was suspected of robbing two other drivers from the same cab company.

Armed Texas man serves up smoking hot justice on assailant who beat elderly patron unconscious at BBQ restaurant: Police

A male allegedly harassed several customers at Woody’s Smokehouse in Centerville, Texas, on Aug. 14. The aggressor – whom police later identified as Kevin Craig Anderson of Houston – reportedly went to the restroom and beat an elderly man unconscious and even continued the physical attack while the victim was on the floor.

Another man tried to help the elderly victim but was knocked down and beaten, too. But he also had a license to carry — and had just about enough. But the victim — who police said is a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card and concealed carry license holder — returned fire and shot one of the suspects in the thigh, police told WLS. The two suspects were arrested Sunday night, police added to WLS.

Male allegedly points gun at rideshare driver's head in carjacking attempt — but victim is a concealed carrier who ends up outsmarting and outgunning suspect

A 26-year-old rideshare driver picked up 20-year-old Darick Benson and a juvenile female in Chicago shortly after midnight Aug. 12, Assistant State’s Attorney John Kyle said during Benson’s bail hearing, CWB Chicago reported.

Benson allegedly pulled out a gun and pointed it at the driver’s head from the back seat as the girl, who also was in the back seat, patted down the driver's right pants pocket, the outlet said.

Kyle said the driver — a concealed-carry license holder — slowed down his SUV, jumped out, pulled a gun from his left pants pocket, and fired three shots at his attackers, the outlet reported. Benson returned fire and tried to drive the SUV, but it failed to operate because the key fob — snug in the rideshare driver's pocket — was out of range, Kyle said. The pair ran off, but police found them, both with gunshot wounds.

The alleged robber was taken to Einstein Medical Center and pronounced dead a short time later, WPVI-TV said.

Armed pizza delivery man gives gun-toting wannabe carjackers a taste of their own medicine

Two masked men with guns approached a 21-year-old delivery man as he was dropping off food in the parking lot of an apartment complex about a minute before midnight July 18, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WCAU-TV.

"He was being carjacked and robbed," Small told the station. But it didn't last long.

The driver — who has a license to carry — confronted one of the suspects and fired two shots, Small told WCAU, hitting the suspect once. The delivery driver told police there was a shoot-out between him and the suspect who was shot, KYW-TV reported, adding that the delivery driver was not hit.

Authorities added to KYW that one of the suspects fled into Springfield Township, while the shot suspect tried to run off but was caught and taken to a hospital for surgery, KYW said.

Gun-toting Good Samaritan saves the day after robber pistol-whips Family Dollar clerk and grabs cash, police say

Fort Lauderdale police said 20-year-old Nicolas Richard Lee Deas and another man walked up to the Family Dollar store around 10 p.m. Sept. 13 as the clerk was closing up, WPLG-TV reported — and Deas pointed a stolen gun at the clerk and told him, “Give me the money, or I will kill you."

Police said the employee took the pair to the safe, and Deas’ accomplice filled a bag with about $1,200, WPLG said, adding that the police report states Deas pistol-whipped the worker in the back of the neck and in the elbow.

The station, citing the police report, said a man closing his own business in the shopping center noted that he heard what was happening and went inside the Family Dollar, saw Deas holding a gun, and then took out his own gun and ordered Deas to drop his weapon and get on the ground. WPLG reported that Deas did just that.

While the other suspect got away, the police report said the business owner who intervened kept Deas on the ground until officers arrived and arrested him, the station said.

Tow-truck driver with concealed carry license turns the tables on armed man who allegedly tried to rob him — and shoots suspect dead

A tow-truck driver with a concealed carry license turned the tables on an armed man who allegedly tried to rob him Monday in Detroit — and shot the suspect dead.

What are the details?

The tow-truck driver was meeting with the suspect to buy a junk car around 9:35 a.m. in the area of 7 Mile and Kelly when he was ambushed from behind, sources told WJBK-TV, adding that the gun-toting suspect demanded everything the driver had on him.

The victim came prepared, however. The station said the tow-truck driver, who is a concealed pistol license holder, pulled out his own gun and fatally shot the suspect.

Detroit police told Fox News Digital they responded to an armed robbery and found one person shot. Investigators added to the cable network the wounded individual was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Fox News, citing Detroit police, said the Wayne County prosecutor will review the investigation's findings, but there was no indication the tow-truck driver would face charges given that the situation appeared to be a case of self-defense.

'I heard multiple gunshots'

“I heard multiple gunshots, around six to eight,” one neighbor who did not want to share his name told WXYZ-TV.

Police aren't confirming the suspect's identity, but sources told WXYZ he has ties to the area — and the neighbor didn't want any conflict with relatives as they grieve.

“You have to get these crooks off the street on way or another,” the neighbor added to WXYZ.

The tow-truck driver was in a truck labeled TK Junk Car Removal, WXYZ reported, adding that no one answered at the business when a station reporter stopped by to interview the driver.

One area towing company owner added to WXYZ that some insurance companies don't cover the liability that comes with tow-truck drivers carrying guns — which results in some outfits prohibiting drivers from carrying weapons.

Lenny Baldwin, owner of U WIN Towing in St. Clair County, told the station he wasn't allowed to carry a weapon when he worked for other companies. But being a strong self-defense advocate, Baldwin added to WXYZ that he pays for the insurance available, encourages his drivers to get a CPL if they want, and trains them.

“We will go to the gun range and practice," Baldwin told WXYZ. "It is all about safety and going home at the end of your shift."

Armed Philly carjacker pulls 59-year-old man from vehicle. But victim — an off-duty corrections officer — turns the tables, fires multiple times at crook.

An armed carjacker picked the wrong motorist to steal from Monday night in Philadelphia, as the victim — a 59-year-old off-duty corrections officer — opened fire at the bad guy, with bloody results.

What are the details?

The victim told responding officers he'd departed a friend's house along East Roosevelt Boulevard near Rising Sun Avenue just before 11 p.m. and entered his white Toyota Avalon sedan, Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small told WCAU-TV.

The victim was then pulled from his vehicle at gunpoint, Small noted to the station, adding that the victim "was carjacked."

The carjacker was wearing a surgical mask and hoodie, WPVI-TV reported.

But instincts apparently kicked in for the off-duty corrections officer, and he wasn't about to let the crook make off with his Avalon unscathed.

Indeed, as the carjacker got into the vehicle, the victim pulled out his own gun and opened fire at the carjacker with at least five shots, Small told WCAU.

The carjacker sped away north along Roosevelt Boulevard, Small added to WCAU.

Well, what do we have here?

However, less than a half hour later, police found the stolen car about a half-mile away along Bingham Street in the Feltonville neighborhood, investigators told WCAU.

"That vehicle was found with five bullet holes in it and a lot of fresh blood inside the driver's seat and some on the center console," Small added to WCAU.

The bullets penetrated the driver's side window and door as well as the windshield, WPVI reported.

Police confirmed to WCAU that the vehicle in question belongs to the corrections officer.

In addition, a man later showed up at a hospital with at least two gunshot wounds to his arms, Small told WCAU, adding that investigators were trying to confirm if the wounded man is the carjacker.

"There's a possibility that that 21-year-old shooting victim may be the individual that committed this robbery carjacking," Small noted to WPVI.

Police are checking DNA evidence to see if there's a match with the hospitalized individual, KYW-TV reported.

The corrections officer wasn't hurt, police told WCAU.

Store worker shot in leg after co-worker wrestles robber for gun. But when weapon falls to floor, wounded worker grabs it and shoots gunman in gut.

A Baltimore cellphone store employee turned the tables on a robber who shot him in the leg last week through an unlikely turn of events which included the victim grabbing the robber's gun from the floor and using it to shoot him in the gut.

What went down?

Investigators said a customer walked into the Metro PCS Store in the 5400 block of Sinclair Lane around 1:25 p.m. Tuesday seeking customer service, WJZ-TV reported.

But after store employees said they couldn't assist him, police said the customer departed the store and returned a short time later with a handgun and announced a robbery, WJZ said.

With that, one of the store's employees wrestled the suspect for the gun, the station reported, adding that a second store employee was shot in the leg after the gun discharged.

Police told WJZ the gun fell to the floor, after which the wounded employee allegedly picked it up and shot the suspect in the abdomen.

When cops arrived to the scene, they found two people with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds, the station said, adding that both of them were hospitalized.

Radio transmissions the station obtained appeared to indicate the wounded employee is male — and one individual was heard groaning in pain in the background

What happened to the suspect?

The suspect will be charged with attempted armed robbery, reckless endangerment, and various handgun violations after being discharged from the hospital, police told WJZ, which added that the investigation is ongoing.

People fighting back

A week prior to the foiled armed robbery, the station said people tackled a woman and held her down after she allegedly shot someone. The woman had a black eye and bandage on her forehead in her mug shot:

In the wake of Tuesday's foiled armed robbery, Mayor Brandon Scott told the station he's not surprised by city residents fighting back against crime.

"We want our residents to be safe; we don't want them putting themselves at risk," Scott said. "But we also understand that this is Baltimore, and people take pride in their community and businesses and places where they work."

Man at ATM turns the tables on gun-toting crook, grabbing his weapon and shooting him multiple times

A man standing at an ATM in a Philadelphia smoke shop got the best of a crook who approached him with a gun early Tuesday, grabbing the suspect's weapon and shooting him multiple times.

The suspect — who ran for his life through the shop's glass front — was found dead minutes later in a nearby stolen car.

What are the details?

Surveillance video captured the scary scene that took place around 1 a.m. in the 5300 block of 5th Street in the city's Olney section, WPVI-TV reported.

Police told the station the suspect, believed to be in his 20s, approached the 45-year-old victim — and then within seconds the victim wrenched the gun away from the suspect and shot him several times.

"I heard two pops," a neighbor who didn't want to be identified told WPVI. "I woke up out of my sleep, and I heard somebody scream."

Video also showed the victim hitting the suspect in the face with the gun and knocking him to the ground. The suspect then fled Y&H Snacks & Candy through the glass on the front door that had been partially shattered by gunfire.

Investigators told the station the suspect was found dead in a stolen car in the 400 block of West Olney Avenue, just blocks away from smoke shop. Officers found him around 1:15 a.m. with gunshot wounds to the groin and thigh, WTXF-TV reported, adding that the Toyota was stolen last week.

Anything else?

Police told WPVI a bullet hit a man who was waiting outside the smoke shop for the victim who shot the suspect, and he's expected to survive. WTXF said the 36-year-old man was shot in the shoulder.

The victim who fatally shot the suspect wasn't injured, WPVI said.

WTXF said he and the man who was waiting for him are cooperating with authorities.

Police said an individual who drove the suspect to the smoke shop is still being sought, WPVI reported. That person abandoned the suspect in the stolen car, WTXF said.

WPVI said it's unclear whether any charges will be filed in the case.

Thugs physically attack teen as he reports for work — then carjack him. But kid fights back, jumps in car, stabs crook behind wheel who pointed gun at him.

A man and three women perhaps figured they'd easily lay a beating on a lone 17-year-old boy as he was reporting to work Tuesday morning — and even steal his car.

But the kid turned the tables on them.

What happened?

The teen arrived at his job at the Motel 6 on Hotel Circle in Mission Valley just off Interstate 8 when a vehicle pulled up behind him, San Diego Police told KGTV-TV.

The group in the second car claimed the teen cut off their vehicle in a road rage incident on the freeway, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported, citing police Lt. Jonathan Lowe in an interview with OnScene TV.

The paper added that the confrontation at the motel occurred about 6 a.m. — and then escalated into a physical altercation. Police said as the teen was being attacked, the man from the group got into the teen's car, KGTV said.

Then things got interesting.

“Realizing his car was about to get stolen, it seems the victim jumped into his car and the suspect started driving away with the victim in the passenger seat," Lowe added to the station. "At some point during the drive, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun. In response to a gun being pointed at him, the victim allegedly stabbed the suspect one time in the upper torso.”

What happened to the carjacker and teen victim?

The suspect pulled over, got out of the car, and ran to his companions’ vehicle, after which he was dropped off at a trauma hospital, where he was reported in serious condition, Lowe said, according to the Union-Tribune.

Officers went to the hospital to detain the man in connection with the incident, the paper added.

The teen suffered minor injuries and also was transported to the hospital, the Union-Tribune noted, adding that no other details were released.
