Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin released from Walter Reed

Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin was discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Pentagon.

"He is recovering well and resumed his full functions and duties today at 5 pm," the press release noted. "On the advice of his doctors, Secretary Austin will recuperate and perform his duties remotely from home for a period before returning to work at the Pentagon later this week. He has full access to the unclassified and classified communications systems necessary to perform his duties."

Austin underwent a prostatectomy in December due to cancer but wound up back at Walter Reed for awhile in January before getting released later the same month.

But he was admitted again on Sunday.

"Secretary Austin was admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Feb. 11 with discomfort and concern from a bladder issue related to his December 2023 prostate cancer surgery. His condition indicated a need for close monitoring by the critical care team and supportive care. His diagnostic evaluation identified the cause of his bladder issue and it was corrected with non-surgical procedures on Feb. 12," Dr. John Maddox and Dr. Gregory Chesnut noted in a statement included in the Pentagon press release.

"He remained in good condition throughout and no longer needed critical care monitoring on the morning of Feb. 13. He progressed well and was discharged to his home today. He is anticipated to continue his full recovery. The bladder issue was not related to his cancer diagnosis and will have no effect on his excellent cancer prognosis."

Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin finally released from hospital

Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin was released from the hospital on Monday, according to the Pentagon.

Austin had been admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on January 1 due to complications after a December prostatectomy performed due to cancer.

President Joe Biden was informed of Austin's hospitalization on January 4, NSC coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby said last week. Kirby also said that Biden was informed about the cancer on January 9.

"Secretary Austin progressed well throughout his stay and his strength is rebounding," Trauma medical director Dr. John Maddox and Dr. Gregory Chesnut, director of the Center for Prostate Disease Research at the Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed, said in a statement. "He underwent a series of medical tests and evaluations and received non-surgical care during his stay to address his medical needs, to include resolving some lingering leg pains. He was discharged home with planned physical therapy and regular follow up. The Secretary is expected to make a full recovery."

Austin said in a statement, "I'm grateful for the excellent care I received at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and want to thank the outstanding doctors and nursing staff for their professionalism and superb support. I also am thankful and appreciative for all the well wishes I received for a speedy recovery. Now, as I continue to recuperate and perform my duties from home, I'm eager to fully recover and return as quickly as possible to the Pentagon."

Trump calls for Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to 'be fired immediately' while others call for him to resign

In the wake of the recent revelations regarding Defense Sec. Lloyd Austin's hospitalization and the lack of transparency surrounding it, former President Donald Trump has called for Austin's firing while other Republicans have called for the cabinet official to resign.

"Failed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin should be fired immediately for improper professional conduct and dereliction of duty," Trump declared in a January 7 post on Truth Social. "He has been missing for one week, and nobody, including his boss, Crooked Joe Biden, had a clue as to where he was, or might be. He has performed poorly, and should have been dismissed long ago, along with 'General' Mark Milley, for many reasons, but in particular the catastrophic surrender in Afghanistan, perhaps the most embarrassing moment in the history of our Country!"

Pentagon press secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder announced in a January 5 statement that on January 1, Austin had been "admitted to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for complications following a recent elective medical procedure."

The White House was reportedly notified about Austin's hospitalization later in the week.

In a January 7 statement, Ryder noted that Austin was still at Walter Reed. "Since resuming his duties on Friday evening, the Secretary has received operational updates and has provided necessary guidance to his team," Ryder noted.

In a January 6 statement, Austin said, "I take full responsibility for my decisions about disclosure."

Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Elise Stefanik of New York have been among the Republicans calling for Austin to resign.

"I write to request your immediate resignation as Secretary of the Department of Defense (DoD). Your failure to inform the White House, the National Security Council, and Congress of your hospitalization and subsequent inability to fulfill your national security responsibilties as Secretary in a timely manner is indefensible and unacceptable," Roy declared in a letter to Austin.

"It is shocking and absolutely unacceptable that the Department of Defense waited multiple days to notify the President, the National Security Council, and the American people that Defense Secretary Austin was hospitalized and unable to perform his duties," Stefanik, who is the House Republican Conference chair, said in a statement.

NSC coordinator for strategic communications John Kirby has batted away the notion an Austin ouster, indicating that there is no plan other than for the defense secretary to remain in his role.

'I am so happy to be home': Fetterman released more than a month after checking into Walter Reed for depression treatment

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has been discharged from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after checking into the facility more than a month ago to seek treatment for clinical depression.

"I am so happy to be home. I'm excited to be the father and husband I want to be, and the senator Pennsylvania deserves. Pennsylvanians have always had my back, and I will always have theirs," Fetterman said in a statement.

"I am extremely grateful to the incredible team at Walter Reed. The care they provided changed my life. I will have more to say about this soon, but for now I want everyone to know that depression is treatable, and treatment works. This isn't about politics — right now there are people who are suffering with depression in red counties and blue counties. If you need help, please get help," the lawmaker said.

A photo posted on social media shows the senator giving a thumbs up to the camera.

Fetterman's communications director, Joe Calvello, said in a tweet that the senator will return to Washington, D.C., next month: "Sen. Fetterman was discharged from Walter Reed, and is now back in Braddock," Calvello noted. "With the Senate in recess for the next 2 weeks, John will spend time with his family and constituents in PA, and return to D.C. when the Senate session resumes on 4/17."

The lawmaker, who took office in January, suffered a stroke last year just before winning the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in Pennsylvania.

Internet shreds Chris Cuomo after he rants about Trump's unmasked balcony appearance. Remember how Cuomo reportedly lied about his own COVID-19 quarantine — and fought with a cyclist?

Social media took CNN's Chris Cuomo to task on Monday night after he embarked on a blistering rant against President Donald Trump.

In the attack, Cuomo slammed the president's return to the White House following his COVID-19 diagnosis and stay at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

What are the details?

As highlighted by Fox News, a bevy of critics hit out at Cuomo on Monday night after the CNN anchor bemoaned Trump's return to the White House and took aim at footage showing the president taking off his mask while outside on his own balcony to wave to the public.

The "Cuomo Prime Time" host went viral in April for videotaping his "official reentry" from quarantine into the rest of society following his own COVID-19 diagnosis. During his dramatic reentry, Cuomo insisted that he'd been stuck in the family's basement for weeks during his convalescence.

However, it was shortly revealed that Cuomo was seen walking outside of his second property, and even engaged in an altercation with a cyclist while he was on the mend and purportedly confined to the family's basement.

"Days later," Fox News pointed out, "Cuomo dug himself a hole when he tried to combat a Twitter critic by claiming he was 'past quarantine' on the date of a now-infamous altercation with a cyclist, which appears to have occurred days before he claimed he was first healthy enough to emerge from his basement."

Despite his own controversy, Cuomo on Monday night said, "You want a metaphor? You've [got] a president who is a drunk driver who is pushing others to drive drunk. That's what he is. Do I want to see a drunk driver get hurt? Hell no. But I worry more about the people he hits."

He complained, "I love seeing him do that victory lap in that limo, thank God! You know why? I knew that meant he has to be OK. Not the people in there with him, PPE up to their ... nose. Now they've got to quarantine. He doesn't give a damn. And now, I do not have to feign any extra measure of compassion."

"Because he went out there, [and] whatever happens now is on him," Cuomo ranted. "The White House is a cluster. He returned to a cluster and took his mask off."

What did people say about the diatribe?

In a lengthy article, Media Research Center news analyst Nicholas Fondacaro wrote, "This was from the same guy who was caught breaking his own quarantine while he was still contagious, and staged a fake news segment where he came out of his basement 'officially.' He also admitted to spreading his coronavirus to his wife."

Commentator Caleb Hull added, "Chris Cuomo was diagnosed with COVID-19, broke quarantine, didn't wear a mask, put others in danger, got into a fight with a cyclist who called him out, then pretended nothing ever happened and threw a party when his 'quarantine' was over."

The Daily Caller's official Twitter account quipped, "Flashback to April when Cuomo played a dramatic clip of him leaving his basement after supposedly being cleared of coronavirus but had already broken quarantine and got into an altercation with a biker."
