NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor claims some Americans say the US is on the wrong track because Trump might get elected again

NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor faced online criticism for her explanation of a poll showing that a large majority of Americans believe the U.S. is headed in the wrong direction.

Alcindor was a guest on MSNBC when she was asked to comment on a poll showing a whopping 74% of Americans say the country is headed in the wrong direction.

She opined about the reasons Americans would have to say the country was in the wrong direction and claimed that many were upset that former President Donald Trump might get elected again or that Republicans might steal the next election.

"But what you see really is on the Democratic side people that are very very worried about the direction of this country.

"They’re very worried especially about former President Trump possibly coming back into power, or former President Trump or another Republican stealing the election in 2022 or 2024, because we've seen so many election deniers be elected.

So a lot of Democrats on the Democratic side, they're very worried about abortion also, and abortion rights.

On the Republican side, Alcindor claimed that Americans were negative because of conspiracy theories about the 2020 election being stolen.

"They're worried that the country is going in the wrong direction because they're seeing too many people say that the election was free and fair, which of course it was," she continued.

She went on to say that Republicans are campaigning on anxiety because of high inflation and increasing gas prices, in addition to the pandemic continuing to have a negative effect on the economy.

The video of Alcindor's comments were circulated widely among those critical of Biden's policies.

On Sunday, Chuck Todd summarized the results of the latest poll from NBC News to which Alcindor was referring.

"We are less than three months before the midterms. Our brand new NBC News poll paints a bleak picture," said the NBC anchor.

"Americans are angry," he added. "They're disappointed. And they are worried about the future of this country."

Alcindor has been accused numerous times of being biased against Republicans in favor of Democrats and their policies.

NBC reporter trips over facts when using Joe Biden's COVID-19 infection to slam Donald Trump: 'Let's remember'

NBC News correspondent Yamiche Alcindor tried to use news of President Joe Biden's COVID-19 infection to slam former President Donald Trump.

But her attempt fell flat after Biden did exactly what she criticized Trump for doing.

What did Alcindor say?

Reacting to news of Biden's infection on MSNBC, Alcindor drew a distinction between Biden and Trump, bringing attention to Trump not wearing a mask after he became infected.

"[T]hink about the fact that we now have two U.S. presidents in a row that have had tested positive for COVID, and I think what we’re gonna see here is likely a different sort of approach to it," Alcindor said.

"Let’s remember his predecessor took off his mask even though it was sort of in the period where he could’ve possibly infected other people," she added. "He didn’t want to talk about getting vaccinated at the White House."

On the other hand, Alcindor afforded Biden the benefit of the doubt, claiming he would be different.

"President Biden, I suspect, just in talking to White House officials, is gonna remind people, 'Yes, I could get it, which means you can get it, which means we all have to be vigilant about this,'" she said.

What did Biden do?

Just hours after the White House announced the infection — and that Biden is experiencing COVID-19 symptoms — the White House posted a photo of Biden working.

People quickly noticed the fact that Biden is maskless in the photo, meaning he potentially exposed the photographer to COVID. The White House confirmed the photo was snapped on Thursday.

\u201cFolks, I'm doing great. Thanks for your concern. Just called Senator Casey, Congressman Cartwright, and Mayor Cognetti (and my Scranton cousins!) to send my regrets for missing our event today.\n\nKeeping busy!\u201d
— President Biden (@President Biden) 1658420306

Being maskless while COVID-positive also violates guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Regardless of vaccination status, the CDC advises individuals who test positive for COVID to isolate from everyone in their home for five days, wearing a well-fitting mask when around others. Even when symptoms subside, guidelines recommend taking precautions for 10 days.

"Wear a well-fitting mask for 10 full days any time you are around others inside your home or in public. Do not go to places where you are unable to wear a mask," the guidelines state.

Still, the White House defended the maskless photo.

"He took off his mask so that the American people could see him and see directly, you know, see the work that he's doing and that he's sitting at his desk continuing to do his work," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Thursday at the daily press briefing.

NBC reporter Yamiche Alcindor gets slammed with backlash over biased comment against Republicans

NBC News White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor was hit with angry ridicule after she made a brazenly biased comment against Republicans.

Alcindor, who formerly worked for PBS, made the comments while a guest on Nicolle Wallace's MSNBC show, "Deadline White House" on Monday.

"They took access absolutely because of a lie, but also I would say, that there also is racism in there," said Alcindor.

"And the racism is a lie," she added.

"The vote, right!" Wallace interjected.

"Right, exactly, it's like the lie, and racism which is a lie, which is that these black people don’t deserve the access to citizenship in the way that other Americans do, that they haven’t worked for it and they don’t understand, sort of, the weight of American democracy and as a result we need to make decisions for them," Alcindor continued.

"I think those two things are so intertwined in this country, we often, I think, get to talk about the political side of this but the race side of this, in the fact that [Rep.] Jim Clyburn (D-S.C.) is saying, in a country where we saw George Floyd die, it's going to be two years this week that we saw this man murdered, in that same country we're still sort of arguing about whether or not we want to teach our children and our students about whether or not sort of, racism has continued to permeate all of these different structures," she explained.

"When we know graphically, when we know statistically that that is simply a fact," Alcindor claimed.

Many on social media took exception to her dishonest and one-sided framing of the voter rights issue.

"What an insanely dishonest person. We already know that her claims about the GA voting law were false based on current turnout and registration levels, but then to also use those falsehoods to smear political opponents as racist is deplorable. PBS and NBC News should be ashamed," read one critic.

"We do not think this. What an a**hole," said writer Nathan Wurtzel.

"I dare them to find one real human being actually saying that. They can't," said another detractor.

Many pointed out that contrary to claims of voter suppression in Georgia, early voting turnout had broken records with nearly a 200% increase from the 2020 primary election. Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, a Republican, praised the results.

Here's the video of Alcindor's comments:

MSNBC viewers lash out at reporter for criticizing Biden over Afghanistan, but she says she was just quoting Jen Psaki

MSNBC viewers lashed out at PBS reporter Yamiche Alcindor for criticizing the Biden administration's withdrawal in Afghanistan but she replied that she was simply quoting White House press secretary Jen Psaki.

Alcindor was a guest on MSNBC when she said that the lethal terror attack in Afghanistan appeared to be the worst day of the Biden presidency.

"The president told reporters earlier this week 'history is going to record that this was a rational, logical right decision to make,' but as someone who pledged to strengthen strained relations from the Trump administration with our allies, what's the impact, what are you hearing from your sources inside the White House, what are their concerns?" asked host Chris Jansing.

"Well, let's remember that yesterday was quite possibly the worst day of the Biden presidency amid one of the worst weeks of the Biden presidency," responded Alcindoor.

"Not only of course were those 13 service members as well as dozens of Afghans killed on his watch as commander-in-chief, you also have spiking cases of COVID-19, an eviction moratorium struck down by the Supreme Court, a confluence of problems that is turning out to be a very ugly August for this Biden presidency," she added.

"And the concern is, that all of this really undermines President Biden's push to really be seen as in control of these crises," she concluded, "all of these crises that are affecting both the country and the world at this point."

MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle published a tweet with the video of Alcindoor's comments, but she had to delete it later after the onslaught of online fury.

Many took to social media to accuse Alindoor of being unfairly biased against President Joe Biden.

"It's really interesting that when we characterized 9-11, I don't recall the immediate reaction being 'worst day in the Bush presidency,'" tweeted Joyce White Vance, who is a legal analyst at MSNBC.

Jennifer Rubin replied, "the press simply cannot cover ANYTHING without converting it into a partisan scorekeeping. They wouldn't dream of saying: It was the worst day for America in many years. It. Is. All. About. Horserace. Politics."

"I am very disappointed in @Yamiche. This was one of the most ridiculous statements I've yet to hear. I'm done and done. A refresher in Journalism 101 is sorely needed," responded another critic on Twitter.

"This is not telling the whole story. Why is the media determined to undermine President Biden. Also why are reporters calling him Biden. It's President Biden!" tweeted another critic.

Alcindoor fired back at the outrage by tweeting at Vance.

"It's easy to rage out on journalists on Twitter. But you're mischaracterizing me and wrong. Yesterday, WH press secretary Jen Psaki said this, 'Any day where you lose service members is — maybe the worst day of your presidency.' It's not my reaction. It's what the WH said," she tweeted.

Despite her explanation, Biden's defenders still went on the attack.

"You did not attribute that statement to Jen. YOU made it sound as if YOU were making that statement. Joyce said what many of us are thinking/saying. None of you ever hold Rs to the high standards you hold for Ds," said one critic.

AOC and other Democrats lash out at Biden for keeping Trump's 'racist' refugee cap after promising major increase during the campaign

President Joe Biden received a tidal wave of criticism on Friday following the announcement that the administration would not increase refugee admissions this year. Much of the backlash that Biden received for keeping the historically low refugee caps set by former President Donald Trump was from fellow Democrats, including the outspoken Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.).

While running for president, Biden promised to reverse much of the immigration policies of the Trump administration. Biden made a campaign pledge to drastically increase Trump's refugee cap of 15,000 per year to 125,000, and promised to "raise it over time commensurate with our responsibility, our values, and the unprecedented global need."

The Biden campaign website states:

Increase the number of refugees we welcome into the country. With more than 70 million displaced people in the world today, this is a moment that demands American leadership. Offering hope and safe haven to refugees is part of who we are as a country. As a senator, Joe Biden co-sponsored the legislation creating our refugee program, which Trump has steadily decimated. His Administration has reduced the refugee resettlement ceiling to its lowest levels in decades and slammed the door on thousands of individuals suffering persecution, many of whom face threats of violence or even death in their home countries. We cannot mobilize other countries to meet their humanitarian obligations if we are not ourselves upholding our cherished democratic values and firmly rejecting Trump's nativist rhetoric and actions. Biden embraces the core values that have made us who we are and will prioritize restoring refugee admissions in line with our historic practice under both Democratic and Republican Administrations. He will set the annual global refugee admissions cap to 125,000, and seek to raise it over time commensurate with our responsibility, our values, and the unprecedented global need.

However, Biden is on track to accept the fewest number of refugees this year of any modern president, including Trump, according to a report from the International Rescue Committee.

"Over the first half of this fiscal year, the precipitous downward trajectory of refugee admissions seen under the Trump administration endures," the IRC said. "If the current pace of admissions continues – and if the Trump administration's admissions policies remain in place – the Biden administration will admit an estimated 4,510 refugees in FY21, less than half of the last year of the Trump administration and fewer than any President in history."

In February, Biden's State Department issued a report to Congress proposing to increase the cap to 62,500 for the current fiscal year, according to CBS News.

Democrats wrote a letter to Biden earlier this month demanding that he act and raise the refugee cap.

"Having fought for four years against the Trump Administration's full-scale assault on refugee resettlement in the United States, we were relieved to see you commit to increasing our refugee resettlement numbers so early in your Administration," Democratic lawmakers wrote. "But until the Emergency Presidential Determination is finalized, our refugee policy remains unacceptably draconian and discriminatory."

Despite his campaign promise, the State Department's recommendation, and a plea from fellow Democrats, Biden will continue with Trump's refugee cap number of 15,000.

Prominent Democrats were enraged by the Biden administration's decision to continue Trump's refugee cap.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: "Completely and utterly unacceptable. Biden promised to welcome immigrants, and people voted for him based on that promise. Upholding the xenophobic and racist policies of the Trump admin, incl the historically low + plummeted refugee cap, is flat out wrong. Keep your promise."

Rep. Ilhan Omar: "As a refugee, I know finding a home is a matter of life or death for children around the world. It is shameful that @POTUS is reneging on a key promise to welcome refugees, moments after @RepSchakowsky@RepJayapal, myself and others called on him to increase the refugee cap."

Joaquin Castro: "I strongly disagree with the Biden administration's decision to maintain Trump's historically low refugee policy. Raising the refugee resettlement cap is vital for American global leadership and to restore the soul of our nation. I urge the President to keep his promise."

Rep. Joe Neguse: "America has long been a beacon of hope to refugees around the world, including my family. As a son of refugees & Co-Chair of the Congressional Refugee Caucus, proud to join @RepJayapal @Ilhan and @janschakowsky in imploring the Biden administration to honor our nation's values."

Rep Pramila Jayapal: "It is simply unacceptable and unconscionable that the Biden Administration is not immediately repealing Donald Trump's harmful, xenophobic, and racist refugee cap that cruelly restricts refugee admissions to a historically low level."

— Yamiche Alcindor (@Yamiche Alcindor)1618597720.0

There were swift reactions by press members, included Washington Post White House reporter Seung Min Kim, who wrote on Twitter, "One thing to remember is that the 62,500 refugee figure Biden pledged was already a prorated figure for a fiscal year that was half over. An apples-to-apples comparison is that Biden pledged 125,000 refugees and decided to stick with 15,000. Quite the stunning drop."

Julie Davis, congressional editor at the New York Times, showed the similarities of the rationale of Biden and Trump on their refugee cap decisions.

The Atlantic writer Adam Serwer tweeted, "Biden maintaining Stephen Miller's refugee policy is not something anyone should defend. It's a disgrace."

Axios reporter Jonathan Swan reacted by saying, "Biden keeps the Trump / Stephen Miller refugee cap. Genuinely curious to hear Biden allies explain how what was 'racist' and 'cruel' under Trump is now enlightened and humane."

Stephen Miller, who spearheaded the Trump administration's immigration policy, chimed in, "Thoughts on this announcement: 1. This reflects Team Biden's awareness that the border flood will cause record midterm losses *if* GOP keeps issue front & center 2. Staggering # being released at border DWARF # saved by not raising cap 3. Refugee cap should be reduced to ZERO*."

Twitter torches PBS journalist over her question on the border crisis to President Biden at first media briefing

Yamiche Alcindor, the White House correspondent for PBS, faced a torrent of backlash after she tossed softball questions to President Joe Biden at the first official media briefing of his presidency Thursday.

Alcindor pressured Biden to allow more illegal immigrants into the country while telling him that migrants are coming to the border because of the perception that he was a "moral decent man" during the election.

"You said over and over again that immigrants shouldn't come to this country, right now this isn't the time to come. That message is not being received instead the perception of you that got you elected as a moral decent man is the reason why a lot of immigrants are coming to this country and entrusting you with unaccompanied minors," said Alcindor.

"How do you resolve that tension, and how are choosing what families can stay and what families can go given the fact that even though with Title 42, there are some families that are staying," she continued, "and is there a timeline for when we won't be seeing these overcrowded facilities run by CPD when it comes to unaccompanied minors?"

Biden disagreed with Alcindor and claimed that the increases in child migrant crossings at the border were due to seasonal fluctuations.

"Well look I guess I should be flattered people are coming because I'm the nice guy, that's the reason that it's happening, that I'm a decent man or however it is phrased. That's why they're coming because they know Biden is a good guy," he responded.

"The truth of the matter is, nothing has changed," Biden claimed. "It happens every single solitary year."

While the interaction was more combative than most recognized, many on Twitter pounced on Alcindor for saying Biden was elected because of the perception that he was a "moral decent" man.

"Fancy that! Reporter #2 @Yamiche was already standing up ready to ask her border question when Biden *randomly* called out her name. She tells him he is a 'moral decent man'. He agrees, says people think he is a 'good guy'," tweeted Fox News contributor Miranda Devine.

"Biden just called on @Yamiche from his hand-picked list of reporters, who proceeded to ask one of the most embarrassing, partisan questions I've ever seen," replied Caleb Hull to the exchange.

"Yamiche Alcindor is a partisan liar. She is a terrible person," responded Ryan Saavedra of the Daily Wire.

"Holy S*** - These people are worse than North Korea state TV," tweeted Benny Johnson.

"Yamiche should be hired as the DNC press Secretary," tweeted former Trump aide Mercedes Schlapp.

Others complained because Alcindor's question was premised on the claim that Biden's statements encouraged more migration.

"Ugh. @Yamiche embraces the bulls*** narrative that migrants are coming because they think Biden's a softy," tweeted Dan Froomkin of Press Watch.

"Yamiche makes the statement unproven that his words set off the surge. This is factually wrong," complained anti-Trump columnist Jen Rubin.

Alcindor was previously criticized on social media over what many saw as a tweet biased against a Republican member of Congress.

Here's Alcindor's report on PBS:

Bi-racial woman said four white males lit her on fire in racist attack — prosecutors found no evidence that it happened

A bi-racial woman received national media attention for her story that she had been attacked by four white males who doused her with gasoline and lit her on fire, but law enforcement agencies say they could not find any evidence to support her claims.

18-year-old Althea Bernstein said that she was attacked by four white males while she was driving through a protest in Madison, Wisconsin, in June. She claimed that the men yelled a racial slur at her when she stopped at a red light, and someone sprayed lighter fluid on her before lighting her on fire.

Bernstein's harrowing story made national headlines and many media figures championed her cause, including PBS White Correspondent Yamiche Alcindor.

Berstein received a phone call from Meghan Markle and Prince Harry of the British royal family over her reported ordeal.

But on Friday, police said they were closing the case because "after an exhaustive probe, detectives were unable to corroborate or locate evidence consistent with what was reported."

A team of local and federal law enforcement officials investigated the matter as a hate crime, but instead they might have uncovered a hate hoax.

In their 150-page report, they documented extensive interviews and surveillance video to come to their conclusion that the attack did not occur as Bernstein reported it. They also said that an arson dog was unable to find any evidence of her story in the car, and they noted that the car was not damaged in the attack.

They did find something like lighter fluid on her shirt, and she had been treated for burns to her face.

Investigators said no charges would be filed against her because they did not find evidence that she intentionally misled police.

PBS correspondent Yamiche Alcindor lambasted for criticizing Madison Cawthorn for standing during the RNC

North Carolina Republican congressional candidate Madison Cawthorn delivered a powerful speech at the Republican National Convention on Wednesday night. However, PBS White House correspondent Yamiche Alcindor asserted that Cawthorn's moving monologue was a "direct rebuke" to those protesting social injustice, including NBA players.

Cawthorn is a 25-year-old vying to become the youngest member in Congress, a title currently held by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, 30. Cawthorn, who owns a real estate investment company, defeated Lynda Bennett for the Republican nomination for the 11th Congressional District seat, which was vacated by Mark Meadows when he became President Donald Trump's chief of staff.

"This is a time of great adversity for our country, and I know something about adversity," Cawthorn began his speech.

Cawthorn is paralyzed from the waist down because he was involved in a car accident when he was 18 years old. Despite his disability, Cawthorn punctuated his speech by rising from his wheelchair to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance.

"You can kneel before God, but stand for our flag," Cawthorn said before standing up.

"The American idea my ancestors fought for during the Revolutionary War, is just as exciting and revolutionary today as it was 250 years ago," Cawthorn said. "I say to Americans who love our country, young and old, be a radical for freedom. Be a radical for liberty. And be a radical for our republic, for which I stand. One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all. Thank you, and may God bless America."

. @CawthornforNC just ended his RNC speech by standing and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance: https://t.co/7M33sSuzqT
— Caleb Hull (@Caleb Hull)1598492917.0

"PBS NewsHour" reporter Yamiche Alcindor criticized Cawthorn's speech on Twitter.

"Madison Cawthorn made it a point to stand, suggesting that all Americans to [sic] should stand during the pledge of allegiance & national anthem," Alcindor, who is an NBC News and MSNBC contributor, said. "It was a direct rebuke of actions by ppl -- including black athletes who are currently sitting out games -- protesting police brutality."

The tweet, which has more than 5,000 Likes, spurred backlash online. At the time of publication, there were more than 10,000 responses to the polarizing critique, and many of the replies lambasted Alcindor.

"How on earth could you possibly turn the rather moving act of a FREAKIN' PARAPLEGIC rising for the national anthem into some weird BLM trip?" National Review contributor Jeff Blehar tweeted. "When someone holds the door open for you, is that a rebuke of BLM too? My patience for takes like this has reached its limit."

"If you thought, 'certainly nobody could attack this man in a wheelchair for standing up at the end of his speech,' you haven't met our completely insane White House press corps, currently viciously attacking a paralyzed man for not sharing their far-left political views," the Federalist senior editor Mollie Hemingway said.

"The activist below found a way to turn a paraplegic standing up in his wheelchair an act of white supremacy," Daily Caller reporter Chuck Ross wrote.

"Nowhere did Cawthorn state his standing was a direct rebuke of actions by ppl — including black athletes who are currently sitting out games — protesting police brutality. And Yamiche Alcindor is not a journalist," conservative commentator Stephen Miller said.

"Madison Cawthorn may be paralyzed, but @Yamiche is the one who is a completely broken person," Sean Davis, co-founder of the Federalist, said. "Only a deranged lunatic who worships at the altar of politics could get angry at the sight of a paralyzed person standing up. What a sad, pathetic way to go through life."

Davis also tagged Alcindor with an image of disabled veterans from Soldier Strong, a group that serves injured veterans, standing up for the national anthem during the 2020 RNC.
