Good guy with a gun blows away suspect who shot 2 during downtown fight, ran off

Seattle police said patrol officers responded last week to reports of gunfire near First Avenue and Union Street.

Police said the initial shooting occurred around 10 p.m. May 28 near the Four Seasons Hotel on Union Street.

A Seattle-area gun range employee on Tuesday afternoon told Blaze News that 'it sucks' and 'it's wild' that the incident occurred — but that there's 'no real way to prevent it from happening other than by being ready for it.'

Officers arrived and found three people with gunshot wounds, police said.

Seattle Police Chief Shon Barnes told KING-TV that three people got into a fight, and one of them took out a gun and shot the other two — and then ran from the scene.

Police said a private citizen who's licensed to carry a firearm intervened and shot the suspect. KING identified that suspect as a 16-year-old male.

Seattle fire crews said they treated an 18-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both of whom were taken to a hospital in serious condition, police told the station.

The 16-year-old male accused of shooting the 18-year-old male and 17-year-old male was taken to a hospital, where he died, police told KING.

The private citizen who shot the suspect cooperated with officers, police said, adding that he was taken to Seattle Police Headquarters, where detectives interviewed him. Police said the citizen has not been arrested, KING reported.

Those with information about the incident are asked to call the Seattle Police Department Violent Crimes Tip Line at 206-233-5000, police said.

At the same time, the gun range employee — who spoke to Blaze News on the condition of anonymity — added that politicians are passing laws and "putting up more barriers" that are "making it harder" for everyday citizens to protect themselves with guns.

"I honestly don't think that's going to help," the employee told Blaze News.

Regardless of how last week's shooting plays out, the gun range employee added to Blaze News that "Seattle is going down the drain."

Alleged home intruder — with reported '135 prior interactions' with cops — runs into homeowner with .45 caliber handgun

An alleged home intruder — with a reported "135 previous interactions" with cops — didn't get very far into an Indiana residence early Friday morning after the homeowner reportedly shot him in the face.

Henry County deputies at 1:45 a.m. responded to a residence after a homeowner called 911 and reported someone was trying to break into his home, Sheriff John Sproles told WISH-TV, adding that the homeowner heard his dog barking and a voice outside.

The homeowner was with his wife and 3-year-old child at the time of incident.

Sproles told the station the intruder had broken two front windows and was reaching inside the home and attempting to pull the blinds down when the homeowner fired one shot from a .45 caliber handgun.

When deputies arrived, they found a man lying on the front porch with a gunshot wound to the face, WISH said.

The station added that the alleged intruder was airlifted to an Indianapolis hospital, where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.

WISH said authorities haven't released the individual's identity but "confirmed he’s had 135 prior interactions" with Henry County law enforcement, "most of which were related to mental health issues."

Sproles added to the station that the incident appears to be isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to the public. WISH said there was not a motive for the break-in.

The homeowner was with his wife and 3-year-old child at the time of incident and is cooperating with the investigation, the station said.

“This incident highlights the dire crisis we are facing with inadequate resources to house people with mental illness,” Sproles added to WISH.

  • "Good guy with the ability to protect himself and his family!" one commenter wrote. "Excellent!!!
  • "The more this happens the less they’ll even try," another user said. "Good work, homeowner — you're a true American hero."
  • "Give him a medal," another commenter declared.

Crook yells at witness, 'Hey, old man ... get the f**k outta here before I shoot you!' But 'old man' is a concealed carrier.

David Villalobos, 66, was walking his dog just before 6 a.m. last Tuesday in the 1100 block of West Cullerton Street in Chicago when he spotted two males tapping on the window of a parked car, WLS-TV reported.

Villalobos told the station he soon noticed one of the males "sticking a gun to the guy's head," and he figured it was a carjacking in progress.

'It's getting rough in Chicago.'

With that, Villalobos and the two males exchanged words, WLS reported, adding that Villalobos said one of the males told him, "Hey, old man ... get the f**k out of here before I shoot you."

Villalobos had little time to react, the station said, as the gunman quickly began firing.

But so did Villalobos, who's a concealed carrier. Police told WLS he has a valid Firearm Owners Identification card.

"He drew his weapon, and he shot," Villalobos told the station. "And I moved as fast as I could. I returned fire."

A neighbor's cellphone video captured the suspects ducking behind a car amid the shoot-out, WLS said. Police told the station they got into a waiting Lexus sedan and fled the scene. WLS added that Chopper 7 was over the scene of an abandoned Lexus about five miles west in North Lawndale.

It isn't clear whether either of the two males was wounded in the shoot-out. But Villalobos was hit in the leg, the station said, after which he was taken to a hospital in good condition and released later the same day.

"It was a superficial wound" that "went in and out, and I thank God for that," he told WLS while showing a reporter the bandage covering the spot where he was hit.

"It's getting bad again in the neighborhood," Villalobos noted to the station. "It's getting bad again."

He also said he was reluctant to fire his gun.

"I'm thinking about going home, see my wife, my grandkids. You know, that's what I'm thinking. I'm not thinking about shooting the guy. I was very hesitant to do so. It's getting rough in Chicago," Villalobos added to WLS.

He also had a message for Democrat Mayor Brandon Johnson, the station said: "You ain't got enough police."

WLS said no other injuries were reported and added that police said no one is in custody, although Area Three detectives are investigating.

Homeowner with 2 sleeping kids spots masked intruders walking up stairs. But they turn tail and run when he pulls gun.

A Los Angeles homeowner whose two young children were fast asleep one night last week found himself face-to-face with three masked males walking up his stairs, KNBC-TV reported.

Believe it or not, the intruders reportedly announced themselves as police officers amid the Studio City home invasion last Wednesday, the station said.

'I was kind of ready for any scenario.'

But the homeowner was wise to what was happening — and had a gun on him.

And wouldn't you know the intruders staring down that barrel suddenly realized that they had more pressing matters on their calendar? Yup, they took off running.

KNBC said the masked males were seen on security video recorded outside the home. The station said they tapped windows and the dog door to make sure all animals were inside.

“Three men covered basically head to toe. Windbreaker hoodies; only their eyes are visible,” the homeowner later explained to KNBC.

The intruders used a device to shatter a double-pane glass door, the station said, after which they walked into the house.

“They yelled ‘LAPD’ when they were in the house, impersonating the police," the homeowner also noted to KNBC. "I think that’s what kind of triggered my senses."

The homeowner — who didn't want the station to identify him — told KNBC he "peered down the stairs and saw two men coming up the stairs and just immediately charged after them ready to take them on. I was kind of ready for any scenario. I was kind of armed and ready to go, and, thankfully, they ran — because the last thing I wanted to do was start shooting people in my house.”

The homeowner added to the station that the would-be thieves got away before officers arrived. The homeowner also noted to KNBC he believes the crew may have been watching his house for several days.

“We were out of town for a few days, and the way they reacted they definitely thought the house was empty,” the homeowner added to the station. “I think they are just getting that brazen. You kind of have to be ready.”

Man calls 911 about masked crooks breaking into cars. But one of them goes after caller — a big mistake, since he has a gun.

A homeowner in Shreveport, Louisiana, was outside smoking a cigarette around 3:30 a.m. Saturday when he saw two masked individuals breaking into cars on the street, KSLA-TV reported.

The homeowner called 911 to report what he was observing in the 7600 block of University Drive, the station said.

Detectives believe Lewis and at least one other person are responsible for a series of crimes in the area, including at least five vehicle burglaries, a firearm theft, and a motor vehicle theft, the station said.

However, while the homeowner was on the 911 call, one of the alleged burglars began to approach him, KSLA said.

The homeowner told the alleged burglar to stop approaching him, the station said, but those instructions reportedly went unheeded.

“Fearing for his and his family’s safety, the caller discharged his firearm twice, striking 18-year-old Jamelvion Lewis,” police Cpl. Chris Bordelon told KSLA.

Lewis was shot in his lower abdomen and right arm, authorities noted to the station.

Officers rendered aid to Lewis, who then was taken to Ochsner LSU Health for treatment of life-threatening injuries, KSLA said.

“His condition has since been upgraded to critical but stable, and doctors are hopeful he will make a full recovery,” Bordelon said of Lewis, according to the station.

The other burglary suspect escaped the scene in a stolen vehicle but abandoned it after traveling a short distance, KSLA reported, adding that the suspect ran off. Police are looking for him, the station added.

Lewis has been charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm because officers discovered he had a gun later confirmed to have been reported stolen out of Bossier City, KSLA said, adding that additional charges are expected.

Detectives believe Lewis and at least one other person are responsible for a series of crimes in the area, including at least five vehicle burglaries, a firearm theft, and a motor vehicle theft, the station said.

Police said witnesses at the scene were taken to the Violent Crimes Unit for recorded interviews, KSLA added.

The homeowner surrendered his gun and fully cooperated with investigators, the station reported, adding that no charges are pending against him.

Male allegedly threatens to kill homeowner, bangs on door after midnight. But victim isn't playing — and shoots through door.

A male allegedly threatened to "kill" a homeowner in San Antonio, Texas, as he banged on the front door of the residence after midnight Thursday.

When the suspect tried to open the door, the homeowner fired through the door and wounded the male.

'FAFO situation. Don’t start none there won’t be none.'

The incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. in the 7700 block of Ingram Road near Culebra Road on the west side of town, KENS-TV reported, adding that the male is in his 40s.

Police told WOAI-TV that the male reportedly was banging on the door and making menacing threats.

Investigators added to WOAI that video from the scene showed the suspect banging on the door, waking up the homeowner, and demanding that the door be opened.

The suspect left but returned and began banging on the door again, WOAI said.

The homeowner told police that the suspect was threatening that he was going to "get inside and kill him," WOAI added.

When the suspect tried to open the front door, the homeowner fired through the door, striking the suspect in the left arm, WOAI said.

The suspect was rushed to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, WOAI noted, adding that police said he will be charged with attempted burglary with intent to assault.

The investigation is ongoing, WOAI noted. There's no word on whether charges will be filed against the homeowner, KENS said.

You can view a video report here about the incident.

How are people reacting?

5 armed thugs force their way into residence, but gun-toting homeowner isn't about to back down

When five armed males forced their way into a residence in Los Banos, California, late last month, the homeowner also got himself a gun — and won the confrontation, shooting two of the intruders.

Police Chief Ray Reyna told KFSN-TV that "the homeowner approached the intruders with a gun he legally owns," after which the chief said a shoot-out ensued at the dwelling near the area of Edward Street and San Luis Street.

'It was very scary.'

The homeowner shot two of the suspects, Reyna added to the station.

A dispatcher on police scanner audio indicated that one suspect was wounded in the leg and another was wounded in the stomach, KFSN reported.

The two suspects were in custody at a Modesto area hospital, where they were expected to survive, the station said. Los Banos is about an hour south of Modesto.

KFSN said police are searching for the other three suspects, who escaped the home through a bedroom window and then took off in a car.

The chief told the station that at least four people were inside the home at the time of the incident, and they weren't hurt.

Reyna added to KFSN that he has reason to believe the intruders are not from the area, and he said police are looking into a possible motive.

"It was very scary," Sergio Juarez told the station before adding that the neighborhood usually is quiet.

KFSN noted that hours after the shoot-out an apparent bloody handprint had stained a gate.

"I moved here because it was a safe neighborhood," Juarez added to the station. "But looking at it right now, it's very scary."

Reyna added to KFSN that there is no outstanding threat to the community, but he's asking for more information from the public.

Husband, pregnant wife hear alarm late at night. Soon husband opens fire at male who allegedly broke into garage, wife's car.

A husband was with his pregnant wife at their Houston residence around 11 p.m. Friday when they both heard beeping and their alarm sounding, KHOU-TV reported.

Police said the 50-year-old homeowner grabbed his handgun and checked things out, the station said.

'Just defending what [is] his. The [burglar] should be thankful he wasn’t killed. Next time he may not be so lucky.'

When the homeowner got to the garage, he noticed the door had been opened — and then he saw a male inside his wife's car in the driveway, KHOU said, adding that their home is on Kelving Street near the intersection of Kirby Drive and West Holcombe Boulevard. The station, citing police, said the male broke into the home's garage and the wife's car.

The male then got out of the car and began moving down the driveway, KHOU said.

Police said the homeowner ordered the male to stop, the station reported — but it was dark outside, the male made a quick movement, and that prompted the homeowner to open fire twice, KHOU said. The shots hit the male once in the arm and once in the leg, the station said.

The homeowner yelled for his wife to call 911 and get help as he stayed with the male, the station said.

The Houston Fire Department quickly arrived and brought the male to an area hospital where he was expected to survive, KHOU said.

The station said the male is expected to face burglary charges.

The Harris County District Attorney's Office will investigate to determine if any charges will be filed against the homeowner, KHOU noted.

How are people reacting?

Commenters responding to KHOU's Facebook post about the incident seem decidedly in the homeowner's corner:

  • "He got exactly what he deserved!" one commenter wrote. "Thank you Texas for allowing us to keep our guns!!!"
  • "Can't just go into someone's property and do what you want," another user said. "Got to know there would be consequences."
  • "Perfectly justified under the law in Texas," another commenter wrote. "This homeowner better not get charged."
  • "Give the homeowner a reward for stopping crime when police can’t and then give him a parade/honor him with a day of recognition as well," another user suggested.
  • "Good work homeowner," another commenter stated.
  • "Just defending what [is] his," another user reasoned. "The [burglar] should be thankful he wasn’t killed. Next time he may not be so lucky."
