3 masked teen thugs try to rob man on Chicago bus. But the 54-year-old isn't about to hand over his property without a fight.

When a trio of masked teens tried to rob a man aboard a Chicago bus Saturday night, the 54-year-old fought back, police told CWB Chicago.

Chicago police told the outlet the man was riding a northbound Ashland bus near 57th Street around 11:22 p.m. when the three males approached him and demanded his property while aboard the bus.

'This will continue to happen all over the city. Can't stand at the bus stop. Can't ride the CTA bus. Can't ride the train.'

Investigators told CWB Chicago the trio began taking items from the man, including a chain necklace that was later recovered from one of the suspects.

A witness told WGN-TV in the station's video report that the suspects were "talking about shooting him, blowing his brains out."

But the man soon decided he wasn't going to give up his stuff without a fight.

Police told the outlet the man reached into his bag, pulled out a “sharp object,” and fought with the robbers.

The suspects battered the victim before fleeing the bus, and CWB Chicago reported that officers initially were dispatched after a bus panic alarm generated a “person with a knife” call.

But as the investigation unfolded, police learned the three ski mask-wearing teenagers targeted the passenger who fought back, the outlet said.

CWB Chicago said police recovered a knife at the scene.

More from the outlet:

Then came the plot twist: While officers were sorting out what happened on the bus, 911 operators received another call from the 5600 block of South Justine Street from a caller reporting that his 13-year-old little brother had been stabbed in the hand.

When officers arrived, they quickly connected the dots. According to a police report, the wounded 13-year-old, his older brother, and another individual at the Justine location turned out to be the robbers. Police also recovered the victim’s chain necklace at the scene.

Police told CWB Chicago that Chicago Fire Department personnel treated the victim, who suffered a cut on his hand, and then took him to St. Bernard Hospital; he was listed in good condition.

Two of the alleged robbers suffered what police said were minor injuries, and paramedics also treated them the outlet said, adding that the three suspects were arrested and charges were pending as of Sunday morning.

A number of commenters reacting to the station's video report about the incident were up in arms:

  • "The mayor will give the 3 criminals the key [to] the city for such bravery," one commenter wrote sarcastically.
  • "Every law-abiding citizen should invest in a [Firearm Owners Identification Card], firearm training, and the [Concealed Carry License]," another commenter said. "Stay ready for the Devil."
  • "A 54-year-old man taking on three young punks and only having a laceration on his hand ... bravo!!!" another commenter wrote. "And glad they caught and arrested the three thugs; just too bad they will be released, if they aren't already, due to [Illinois Democrat Gov. JB] Pritzker's absurd Safe-T Act."
  • "In a future plea deal, charges of assault with bodily harm and aggravated robbery will be reduced to fare evasion — probably," another commenter predicted.
  • "This will continue to happen all over the city," another commenter lamented. "Can't stand at the bus stop. Can't ride the CTA bus. Can't ride the train."

Knife-wielding ex-con gets tables turned on him lethally — courtesy of victim he robbed, fought, bit, and stabbed: Report

A knife-wielding ex-con got a deadly taste of his own medicine late last week courtesy of the victim he robbed, fought, bit, and stabbed in Brooklyn, the New York Daily News reported.

Dan Costume, 34 — who was released from prison in 2024 — entered a stranger's apartment in Flatbush through an unlocked door late Friday night, law enforcement sources and the victim told the paper.

'He was acting in self-defense.'

The 45-year-old tenant spoke to the Daily News in Spanish, telling the paper that he had just come home from playing soccer. But the tenant's wife had departed their apartment on Avenue D near East 31st Street to run an errand — and left the door unlocked, the Daily News said.

When the tenant emerged from the bathroom, he caught Costume stealing two cell phones, a laptop, and other belongings, the tenant told the paper.

“He was in shock that there was a random person in his house,” a relative of the tenant told the Daily News in English as she listened to the tenant's account in Spanish.

The tenant wrapped his arms around the intruder from behind to try to get him to drop the stolen goods, the relative told the paper.

“They started battling between each other,” the relative added to the Daily News.

Costume bit the tenant’s hands and cheek, then pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed the tenant in the back of the neck, the tenant told the paper.

Then the victim reportedly turned the tables on the robber.

Sources told the Daily News that the tenant was able to disarm Costume and use the robber's own knife to stab Costume in his thigh and lower back.

The tenant then shoved Costume out of the apartment and into the hallway, the paper said, adding that the burglar fled down a stairwell and out of the building, dripping blood as he dropped the stolen property.

Costume collapsed outside the building, the Daily News said, and medics rushed him to Kings County Hospital where he died.

The tenant was treated at the same hospital and released, the paper added.

A bruise and teeth marks were still visible on the tenant’s cheek days later, the Daily News reported, adding that the victim needed medical staples to close two gashes in his neck and on the back of his head.

“He was acting in self-defense,” the tenant's relative told the paper. “Everything happened so fast.”

The Daily News, citing sources, said prosecutors decided not to charge the tenant after reviewing the case because he acted in self-defense.

Costume’s father and sister told the paper they haven’t seen much of him since he left home at age 18, noting that he was in and out of the criminal justice system.

Costume's family members added to the Daily News that police had come looking for him several times before they knocked on their door Saturday to notify them of his death.

Costume was conditionally released from prison on parole in October 2024 after serving a one-and-a-half to three-year sentence for a Brooklyn attempted burglary conviction, the paper said, citing public records.

The tenant who killed Costume viewed surveillance video showing Costume getting into the apartment building through a back door near where garbage is kept, the Daily News reported.

The tenant also is in "a lot of pain," a relative told the paper, as he recovers from the wounds he suffered during the fight with Costume.

Knife-wielding male hijacks Chicago bus in middle of night. But wise driver outwits crook and pulls off daring escape.

A knife-wielding male hijacked a Chicago Transit Authority bus in the middle of the night earlier this week, but the wise bus operator used her experience and wits to pull off a daring escape.

Police said the suspect was aboard a southbound No. 53 CTA bus just before 2:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 2400 block of North Pulaski Road in the Belmont Gardens neighborhood when he pulled out a knife and demanded the bus not stop, WLS-TV reported.

'She could see him through the mirror, what he was doing, jabbing with the knife, like he was going to stab her.'

The bus driver, a 57-year-old woman, tripped a silent alarm, the CTA told the station.

After a bus supervisor located the bus, the bus driver escaped out a window in the 900 block of North Clark Street, police told WLS.

The bus traveled about 6.5 miles after leaving its normal route, the station said.

The suspect got off the bus and ran into Washington Park, WLS said, adding that police took him into custody in the 100 block of East Chestnut Street just before 3:20 a.m.

The bus driver's union leaders described what they saw on the bus' surveillance video, the station said.

"She could see him through the mirror, what he was doing, jabbing with the knife like he was going to stab her, but only doing it in a motion where she could see through the mirror," Michelle Townsend, second vice president of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 241, told WLS.

The station said it's unclear what the suspect wanted.

Police said charges are pending, and no injuries were reported, WLS added.

RELATED: 7 females, 2 males accused of ganging up on, beating up train passenger in Chicago

Acting CTA President Nora Leerhsen said there was a 47% drop in serious crime across the transit system compared to last year, the station reported, adding that buses saw a 40% drop.

Leerhsen added to WLS that Chicago police officers' hours patrolling the transit system have increased by 75% since December, especially during evening and overnight hours.

In March, Cook County Sheriff's officers also began patrols, the station said.

WLS said the increased security comes after President Donald Trump threatened funding due to violent attacks in the CTA system — including one last November when Lawrence Reed allegedly set a woman on fire on the Blue Line.

The station added that violent crimes across the CTA system — including stations and platforms — "remain at a high level, with 779 violent crimes committed in a 12-month period between April of last year and this year."

The CTA over the summer will launch a pilot program featuring violence interrupters and crisis intervention specialists who hope to help stop crime before it happens, WLS reported.

One person walking out of the Red Line's Roosevelt station Wednesday weighed in on CTA safety, the station said: "It's a traveling hotel. You know what I'm saying. It is dangerous."

Fatally stabbed British teen bled out in cop's handcuffs after Sikh suspected murderer cried racism

A 23-year-old Sikh man is on trial in the United Kingdom for the December murder of an 18-year-old Englishman.

Vickrum Digwa is accused of fatally slashing and stabbing first-year Southampton University student Henry Nowak of Essex. Digwa's mother, Kiran Kaur, is also on trial for conspiring with her son after the fact by allegedly removing the murder weapon from the scene of the attack.

Already in the trial, prosecutors have furnished members of the jury with plenty of insights into Nowak's death — alleging, for example, that:

  • Nowak encountered Digwa on his way home from a night out with his soccer team, during which he consumed less than the drink-drive limit;
  • Nowak captured footage on his phone of Digwa openly carrying around an 8-inch Sikh blade, extra to the smaller kirpan blade he was also carrying around his neck;
  • Nowak's phone containing the damning footage was ultimately found in the suspected killer's pocket;
  • the victim, spouting blood, desperately attempted to climb a fence to escape his attacker, only to have the alleged Sikh killer "aggressively pursue him";
  • Digwa's mother was captured on video taking the murder weapon back to the family home;
  • Digwa told his brother while in police custody that he stabbed the victim multiple times; and
  • analysis found DNA from the mother, hairs from Digwa, and blood from Nowak on the knife.

One of the more troubling allegations actually concerns the conduct of the British police who first arrived on the scene.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2025, police were called to the scene of an altercation taking place on Portswood's Belmont Road.

Digwa presented himself to the first officers on the scene as the victim, telling them that he was "racially abused and attacked by a drunken man," prosecutor Nicholas Lobbenberg told jurors Thursday.

"He didn't seek help for the man he had injured with his sizeable knife; instead he accused him of being a racist and being drunk," added Lobbenberg, reported the Daily Mail.

According to the prosecutor, police handcuffed Nowak while he was dying from four stab wounds including two wounds to the back of his legs and one in the lung. Only when the pierced and bleeding Briton collapsed did police reportedly start administering first aid.

Digwa's lawyer, Jeremy Wainwright, claimed that the alleged murderer was carrying a dagger "for religious purposes" and had acted in the "heat of the moment" in self-defense — a statement that jurors might have difficulty believing on account of the wounds on the back of the victim's legs.

'His story will not be buried.'

Wainwright also strongly insinuated that his client was responding to a "racially motivated attack" by the dead and unarmed Englishman.

"You will be shocked and upset when you see the state of Henry Nowak and when you hear what's shouted at what is tragically a dying man," said Wainwright. "But did Digwa and his brother at the time realize they were dealing with a dying man, or was their anger generated by someone who was drunk, who had racially attacked them, and they weren't aware of the extent of those injuries?"

In light of the revelations about the dying victim's treatment by Hampshire Police, Turning Point UK and other critics have called for the termination of the officers responsible and for the department to "apologize for their disgraceful behavior believing false allegations of racism, over a man who had been violently stabbed."

Hampshire Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Blaze News.

The victim posthumously maligned by the suspect and his attorney was, according to the Villarrealgorithm CF and Southampton University Football Club, "the kind of lad who, when he walked into a room, instantly lifted the mood. Henry had a big heart and an even bigger personality, and he will be incredibly missed by everyone."

Nowak's mother noted in the wake of his death, "Our lives are irreparably changed. Our hearts are broken beyond repair. But his name will not fade. His story will not be buried."

On July 11, Nowak's family and friends will join others at Aveley Football Club for a celebrity charity soccer match in honor of the young man and his memory.

'No such thing as a defensive weapon': Judge warns Scottish axe girl she shouldn't have carried blades

The internet icon known as the Scottish axe girl gave testimony in the trial of a man accused of attacking her last August.

Following her testimony, a judge lectured the young girl about possessing the weapons in the first place.

'Come here, sexy. I'll show you how to have a good time.'

The case goes back to the summer of 2025 when the 13-year-old girl was captured on video brandishing an axe and a knife in Dundee, Scotland.

Blaze News previously reported on allegations that a man had attacked the young girl after making sexual comments. Scotland Police stated than an adult man and woman had been charged in relation to the incident, along with a young girl.

The accused have since been identified as 22-year-old Ilia Belov and 20-year-old Nadjedzha Belova; both were charged with violent offenses against a group of girls between 12 and 14 years old. The man is also accused of following four young girls, according to the BBC, but he denies the allegations.

During Belov's trial last week, the teen girl testified that the man repeatedly said, "Come here, sexy. I'll show you how to have a good time."

The girl said the remarks made her "angry," so she "turned around and shouted at him."

The 13-year-old also testified that a woman approached the group and threw the girl's sister to the ground, which is when the girl tried "to go for" the woman but was pushed by the man.

The child then accused the adult male of pushing her on the head, which hit a handrail, and the adult female of kicking her sister "in the head."

The girl told the defense attorney that it was at this point she brandished the axe and knife from her waistband, which was when she was filmed.

Defense lawyer Larry Flynn claimed that his client, Belov, did not start the incident and was simply responding to comments that were made to him. He also claimed that the witness called Belov an "immigrant," but the young girl denied the allegation.

After the young girl presented her testimony, Sheriff Tim Niven-Smith — the judge presiding over the trial — told her she shouldn't have been carrying weapons in the first place.

"I hope you reflect that it's not a good idea to carry weapons in the city of Dundee," he reportedly said.

"There is no such thing as a defensive weapon; there are only offensive weapons," he added.

According to U.K. law, it is an offense to carry "a bladed or sharply pointed article" in public. Although there are carveouts for a "reasonable excuse," such as work, religion, or costume, the application of these rules can be strict.

According to the Inspectorate of Prosecution in Scotland, a government oversight agency, a gardener was convicted for possessing an axe in the door of his car because it was not stored in a tool bag in the trunk with his other tools.

Female slashes face of 3-year-old boy she kidnapped at Walmart — and officers open fire: Police

A female slashed the face of a 3-year-old boy she kidnapped at a Walmart in Omaha, Nebraska, on Tuesday morning — and officers opened fire on her, police said.

Officers responded to the Walmart in the 1600 block of South 72nd Street after receiving 911 calls — one caller indicated a woman was armed with a “large kitchen knife” and was with a young child, police said.

'The responding officers acted with professionalism and direct action to intervene and save a child’s life.'

A two-officer patrol unit arrived at the location where officers approached the armed woman — later identified as 31-year-old Noemi Guzman — who was standing by a shopping cart with a 3-year-old boy in the cart, police said.

Guzman was making multiple threats with the knife, police said, and officers gave multiple verbal commands for Guzman to drop the knife.

Police said she refused to drop the weapon and cut the boy.

With that, the patrol officers fired their service weapons striking Guzman.

The child’s guardian, along with a bystander, immediately removed the child from the cart and rendered aid to him, police said.

Officers began lifesaving measures on Guzman, but police said she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Omaha Fire Department medics took the boy to Children’s Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The child's parents identified the boy as Cyler Hillman, KETV-TV reported. Deputy Police Chief Scott Gray added to the station that Cyler suffered a cut on the left side of his face and on his hand.

Investigators later determined through store surveillance video that Guzman had shoplifted the knife from inside the store, police said. She then approached the child and guardian in a shopping aisle, brandished the knife, and forced the guardian to walk ahead of the cart while the child remained inside, police said.

Gray told KETV that Guzman kidnapped the child.

Guzman then directed them through the store and into the parking lot, and soon officers intervened, police said.

“The responding officers acted with professionalism and direct action to intervene and save a child’s life,” Omaha Police Chief Todd Schmaderer said.

Police told KETV that Guzman and the child's caretaker did not know each other.

The investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Various aspects of this incident were captured on officers’ body-worn cameras and other available surveillance, police said.

The involved officers have been placed on paid critical incident leave, per department policy, police said, adding that they will be interviewed at a later date.

Police said they're asking witnesses who may have observed or recorded Guzman's actions during the incident to contact the department at 402-444-4877 and reference report number AA31063.

Police said Guzman in 2024 was accused of dousing her father with a flammable liquid and stabbing him — and then breaking into St. Francis Cabrini Church in Omaha and destroying property in the rectory.

According to a separate KETV story, Guzman was later found not responsible by reason of insanity.

The above KETV news video indicates that a judge ordered Guzman to undergo evaluation but in an outpatient capacity. A month later, a court ruling indicated Guzman was suffering from mental illness, including schizophrenia, the station said.

The court ruling stated that Guzman "remains a danger to herself or others, and should remain under the jurisdiction of the court" and that she can "continue to reside in the community with family support unless otherwise recommended by her community treatment team," KETV said in the video. A one-year review was scheduled to take place less than a month prior to Tuesday's incident, the station said.

Douglas County Sheriff Aaron Hanson told KETV in 2024 that the state lacks the infrastructure to help patients like Guzman.

'I'll kill you in the name of Allah': Knife-wielding male makes death threats in chilling driveway incident; suspect arrested

A knife-wielding male was caught on surveillance video issuing death threats — he was heard twice saying, "I'll kill you in the name of Allah" — to another man in the driveway of an Ohio home in the middle of the night last weekend.

Anthony Tyrone Jessie Long, 23, was arrested and charged with aggravated menacing and aggravated trespassing after Warren County Sheriff's deputies were called to a Franklin Township home just before 1:30 a.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person, WXIX-TV reported, citing sheriff's office records.

'Hey bud, you knocking on the door?'

A woman told dispatchers that a male was walking around the front of the property and knocking on the door while holding a knife and threatening to kill her husband "in the name of Allah" before chasing after the couple's daughter, who had just arrived in the driveway, the station said.

"We knew our daughter would just get out of the car and come right in," the woman told WXIX in the aftermath, adding that "we were too afraid that the guy was going to do something to her."

Surveillance video shows the suspect at first kneeling and bowing his head on the driveway. Soon the dad approaches the suspicious person and asks him, "Hey, bud, you knocking on the door?"

With that, the male walks toward the dad and twice tells him, "I'll kill you in the name of Allah."

The dad then retreats toward the house and yells for his daughter to drive away.

RELATED: Machete-wielding male takes hostage at bank he robs, threatens killings, DA says. It comes to deadly end when cops catch him.

The daughter was able to get away, WXIX reported, and the suspicious person fled in a car.

When deputies got to the scene, the victims showed them surveillance video of the incident, the station said.

About 15 minutes later, Clearcreek Police were dispatched to a traffic stop near Bunnell Hill and State Route 122; a caller claimed they were being followed by a driver — and that the driver tried to ram the caller's car, WXIX said.

With that, the person who called 911 led the driver to a Clearcreek Police station where officers detained the driver, identified as Long, as the driver matched the description of the suspicious person wanted for threatening the Franklin Township family, the station noted.

Deputies returned to the Franklin Township residence, and the family showed them video of the suspicious person with a knife — and the knife matched the one found in Long's possession, WXIX said.

Long was taken to the Warren County Jail, and jail records on Thursday afternoon indicate he's still behind bars. The station said Long is being held on a $1,500 cash-only bond for the Clearcreek incident as well as a $75,000 bond for the Franklin Township incident; his next court date is April 23.

Knife-wielding person advances toward homeowner who complained about car vandalism, cops say. But homeowner is wielding gun.

Investigators in Arizona said a homeowner and his family member confronted an individual after 1 a.m. Friday after discovering knife damage on two of their vehicles, InMaricopa.com reported.

With that, the person reportedly advanced toward the homeowner while holding a knife, the outlet said.

'I love it! That’s justice!!! He definitely found out!'

Unfortunately for the person reportedly holding the knife, the homeowner was holding a gun — and used it.

When Maricopa Police officers arrived at the scene on West Thornberry Lane in Homestead, they found an individual shot in the leg, the outlet said.

That person was taken to a hospital and was awaiting surgery as of Friday morning, police told InMaricopa.com.

Turns out that officers later found other cars in the area with similar knife damage, police added to the outlet.

The homeowner who pulled trigger is not being charged with a crime, as it appears he was acting in self-defense, the outlet noted.

However, the wounded person is facing charges, InMaricopa.com said, adding that the investigation remains ongoing.

Commenters reacting to the outlet's story on Facebook appeared solidly behind the homeowner's actions.

  • "F'd around and found out," one commenter said.
  • "Lucky it was only his leg shot. Just saying. Good for the homeowner!" another user noted.
  • "I mean, torturing my horse would get death — so why wouldn't touching my vastly improved horse replacement that, at one time, took years of my life to pay for and develop into a usable vehicle?" another commenter quipped.
  • "I love it! That’s justice!!! He definitely found out!" another user declared.
  • "Sounds like the criminal deserved it — but will probably still sue homeowner for his injuries," another commenter predicted.

Florida sheriff's office under fire for posting 9-year-old male's mug shot on Facebook after his felony arrest

Florida authorities arrested a 9-year-old male last Thursday after they say he brought a knife into his elementary school the day before and threatened classmates with it.

The Putnam County Sheriff's Office said during one incident the suspect got into a fight with a victim during recess at Middleton-Burney Elementary School in Crescent City, and the victim told deputies the suspect said he was going to stab him and pulled a pocketknife from his backpack. The victim told deputies he ran and told a teacher.

'We have not had any repeat offenders since we have put this in place.'

Another victim told deputies that the suspect tapped him on the shoulder on the playground, and when the victim turned around, the suspect had an open knife in his hand. The victim told deputies he ran away out of fear and tripped, after which the suspect stopped chasing him and walked away.

Another student told deputies the suspect walked over to her and showed her a knife and asked her not to tell teachers; she added that the suspect walked over to another child and "flicked open the knife" and pointed it at the child’s stomach. Authorities said that child was unable to be identified.

In the end, the sheriff's office said deputies arrested the 9-year-old suspect and took him to the Putnam County Jail. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill, officials said, adding that he was booked and then released to a parent until his court date.

However, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office is getting backlash for posting the suspect's mug shot on Facebook. The sheriff's office also named the young arrestee in the post.

About 48,000 comments have followed as of Thursday morning. Here's what some opponents of the mug shot posting have had to say:

  • "I don’t agree with this at all," one commenter said. "While I absolutely do not support his behavior or bringing a weapon to school, this is still a 9-year-old child. Arresting him, taking a mugshot, and publicly posting it like this can cause lasting psychological harm. At this age, the focus should be on intervention, counseling, and protection, not criminalizing him in a way that could follow him for life. There should be statutes in place to protect children this young, this feels more like trauma and child abuse than justice."
  • "Posting a 9 YEAR OLD'S mugshot?!" another commenter exclaimed.
  • "Yeah. I'm all about shaming criminals. But that's a little far," another commenter noted. "He's still a baby and needs guidance not [shame]. That will only reinforce forms of hate and mistrust. Post his parents and get him help and positive encouragement."
  • "Since when does law enforcement [show] pictures of a 9 yr. old child and [give] their name?" another commenter wondered. "What the child did I'm not condoning, but still he's a very young child."

But the sheriff's office, for now, is not budging. In fact, it told WTSP-TV that the decision to post the child's mug shot is a policy the agency has upheld since 2018, and it won't remove the post.

“We have not had any repeat offenders since we have put this in place," Allison Merritt with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office added to the station.

In fact, just a week earlier, the sheriff's office posted a 10-year-old male's mug shot for the same charge and circumstance. Officials said this child brought a pocketknife to school and threatened another student.

WTSP said state law doesn't protect the confidentiality of juveniles charged with felonies, and their names, photos, and arrest reports legally can be released.

But the station added that the statute allows families to request that photos be taken down from websites — and if they're not removed within 10 days, the posters can face civil penalties.

"Just because we can post a mug shot of a 9-year-old doesn’t mean we should," attorney Shannon Schott, a legal expert in juvenile law, told WTSP.

Schott added to the station that posting a child’s mug shot online can have lasting consequences, including an impact on the child’s mental health, future schooling, and chances at rehabilitation.

“The juvenile justice system really is intended to keep things behind closed doors so a family can privately heal and move forward and help their child move forward," she told WTSP. "It’s really just a conflict between the way the sheriff thinks that things should be done and how the system actually works.”

U.S. Attorney Chased By Illegal Alien With Knife In Albany

Criminal behavior is what we can expect from people who started their relationship with this country by entering illegally.
