He's baaaaack: Failed 2020 candidate and despised NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio is running for Congress

After teasing his plans earlier this week, former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is officially running for Congress.

De Blasio announced on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Friday that he is running in the Democratic primary for a newly drawn congressional district representing parts of Manhattan and Brooklyn.

"Polls show people are hurting. They need help, they need help fast, and they need leaders who could actually get them help now and know how to do it,” the failed 2020 presidential candidate said.

“I do know how to do it from years of serving the people of this city, and so today I’m declaring my candidacy for Congress in the 10th Congressional District of New York,” he continued. “And I want to tell you, what people need is exactly the kinds of things that I focused on before: money back in their pocket. We did that. We reduced income inequality.”

De Blasio declared his candidacy days after the New York Post reported that he was making calls to party officials and inquiring about launching a challenge to former Rep. Max Rose (D-N.Y.). On Wednesday, he tweeted that he had formed an exploratory committee for the new 10th Congressional District of New York, which represents the East Village, West Village, SoHo, Tribeca, the Financial District, Brooklyn Heights, Park Slope, and Borough Park.

Our neighborhoods need help as we recover from Covid. Our nation needs help as democracy is threatened and working people struggle. I am ready to serve to continue the fight against inequality. Today I am forming an Exploratory Committee for the new #NY10.http://BilldeBlasio.com

Court-appointed special master John Cervas drew a new map of New York's congressional districts after the state's highest court ruled that the Democratic-controlled legislature had illegally gerrymandered to reduce the number of competitive districts. In the Cervas map, the 10th will be a heavily Democratic district, ensuring that whoever wins the primary will in all likelihood be elected to Congress.

De Blasio served as New York City mayor from 2014 to 2021 and was term-limited from running for mayor again. A far-left progressive and communist sympathizer, he left office in December with high disapproval ratings, rising crime, and a tense relationship with the NYPD. He briefly ran for president in the 2020 Democratic primary but dropped out after receiving zero percent in several straw polls.

On "Morning Joe," De Blasio took credit for enacting a universal pre-K progam and "having led this city out of the worst of the COVID crisis."

“I’m ready right now to serve and address the issues that are so deep in communities in Brooklyn and Manhattan and I just wanted to come here, a place that I cherish and with you who’ve been such good friends to tell you this is the next step,” he said. “And I want to serve the people of the community that is my home and that I love.”

De Blasio takes 'preemptive strike' against COVID-19 Omicron with first-in-the-nation vaccine mandate on private businesses

New York City will impose a first-in-the-nation vaccine mandate on private companies, in what Mayor Bill de Blasio called a "preemptive strike" against the Omicron variant and a possible winter surge of COVID-19.

The mayor went on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" Monday morning to announce the mandate, which he said will take effect in three weeks, on Dec. 27.

“We in New York City have decided to use a preemptive strike to really do something bold to stop the further growth of COVID and the dangers it’s causing to all of us,” de Blasio said. “All private-sector employers in New York City will be covered by this vaccine mandate as of Dec. 27.”

New York City already requires vaccinations for hospital and nursing home workers, as well as city employees including teachers, police officers, and firefighters. Last week, the mayor's office also announced these mandates would be extended to private and religious schools.

This new mandate covering private businesses comes at the same time federal courts have temporarily blocked President Joe Biden's federal vaccine mandate on companies with more than 100 employees from taking effect.

At a press conference Monday morning, New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Dave Chokshi said that the city will issue the new vaccination rules on Dec. 15, but he did not give details on how they will be enforced.

“Vaccines work, and vaccine mandates work, particularly when joined with efforts to build vaccine confidence, provide incentives, and improve access, as we have in New York City,” Chokshi said. “We’ve seen this with our health care workers, school staff and public employees. Now it’s time for the private sector to step up and follow suit.”

New York City Councilman Mark D. Levine, the chairman of the council's health committee, said the mandate will include a weekly testing option, according to WLNY-TV.

The councilman added on social media that vaccination passport requirements at indoor public establishments like restaurants and theaters will be extended to include children ages 5 to 11 on Dec. 14 and will require a second vaccine shot as of Dec. 27.

BREAKING: NYC is strengthening vax screening at indoor public establishments like restaurants & theaters.\n* Will include 5-11 yr olds (as of 12/14)\n* Will require a 2nd shot, not just single shot (as of 12/27)\n\nThese are much needed measures in the face of our delta/omicron wave.

Also, beginning on Dec. 14, children ages 5 to 11 will need to have at least one vaccine dose to participate in "high risk" extracurricular activities, including football and volleyball.

But all of these COVID-19 policies are subject to review once Mayor-elect Eric Adams takes over on Jan. 1. In a statement to WLNY-TV, the mayor-elect said he will "evaluate" the new mandate once he takes office.

“The Mayor-elect will evaluate this mandate and other COVID strategies when he is in office and make determinations based on science, efficacy and the advice of health professionals,” a spokesperson said.

9 of the top 10 governors with highest approval ratings are Republican; Biden is less popular than the least-liked governor in the country: Poll

Another new poll delivers ominous forebodings for Democrats and President Joe Biden. Americans are embracing Republican governors at a much higher rate than their Democrat counterparts.

A Morning Consult poll released this month found that of the top 10 governors with the highest approval ratings – nine of them were Republicans. Topping the list is Vermont Gov. Phil Scott (R), with 79% of registered voters who approved of his job performance in the third quarter of 2021. Shockingly, 88% of Democrats said they strongly approved or somewhat approved Scott's leadership compared to 75% of Republicans.

A Democrat doesn't make the list until the seventh spot with Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont (D). In the top 15, only two are Democrats. At the bottom of the list, four of the five least-liked governors are Democrats.

The governor with the worst job performance rating is Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) at 43%. Yet, Brown has a higher approval rating than President Biden.

In an NPR/Marist poll, Biden hit a new low with a sputtering approval rating of only 42%.

The latest job performance rating for President from Real Clear Politics shows that 41.7% approve of his presidency, and 52.5% disapprove of what he has done while in office.

The most recent Rasmussen poll shows Biden with only 41% approval and 58% disapproving of his job as president.

Biden's approval rating is a paltry 36%, along with a disapproval of 53%, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released on Nov. 18.

A poll from Civiqs found that President Biden is above water in his approval rating in only six states, and had the lowest approval in West Virginia at an abysmal 18%.

A Hill-HarrisX poll released this month found that 61% of registered voters said Biden should make way for another Democrat to run in 2024, while only 24% believed he should run for reelection.

A recent ABC News/Washington Post poll showed that Republican congressional candidates hold their largest lead over voter preference heading into a midterm election in the 40 years of the survey's history. The poll asked registered voters what political party they would vote for if the midterm elections were today. Republicans enjoyed a 10-point lead – 51% preferred Republicans and 41% favor a Democratic candidate.

Last month, an NBC News survey found that 71% of Americans said the country was "off on the wrong track," and a mere 22% saw the nation heading in the right direction.

Here's why Steven Crowder is considering a run for office

Until recently, Steven Crowder hadn't considered running for public office. However, on Tuesday's program, Crowder said his thoughts on running for office are changing.

Crowder told his audience he is afraid that because of the way Donald Trump [and his supporters] have been treated in the months following the 2020 election, "good people who actually want to change the country for good will be afraid to run."

Crowder expressed concern about the era of social media, and how "everyone has something online that could destroy their reputation."

"The only reason I would consider running for office would be because I have nothing to lose. I've made a lot of mistakes. My flaws are on full display," Crowder said.

He later clarified that he doesn't want Americans to think the government rules over them. He wants people to feel they can represent their constituents without a fear of having their lives destroyed by the ruling class in Washington, D.C. Watch the clip for the full story.
