Leftist grabs Trump flag after Philly Mummers parade-goer waves it in his face, setting off New Year's Day dust-up

A leftist was caught on video grabbing a Donald Trump flag after a Philadelphia Mummers parade-goer waved the flag in the leftist's face, setting off a dust-up amid the colorful New Year's Day shindig in the City of Brotherly Love.

What are the details?

Cellphone video shows the Mummer — decked out in a sky blue-and-silver get-up, accented by American flag socks and gold boots — holding a pole with the Trump flag waving on top and heading to the sidewalk where barriers separate parade watchers from participants.

Suddenly, the Mummer brings the flag down to the face and head of the parade watcher, and he retaliates by grabbing the flag. It isn't clear why the Mummer used the Trump flag in that way.

An angry tug-of-war ensues as one individual, presumably a parade participant, is heard hollering, "F*** him up! F*** him up!"

Soon, a handful of Mummers got past the barriers and confronted the man who grabbed the Trump flag.

It isn't clear from the video who ended up with the flag.

According to the Daily Mail, the fracas took place around 2.30 p.m. and included chants of "f***ing liberal," although the alleged chant isn't audible on the available video. There also was a claim on social media that the flag-grabber was punched in the face, but video doesn't appear to bear that out.

WHYY-TV — a PBS-affiliated station — reported that "one Mummer carried a MAGA flag in support of former President Donald Trump" but said nothing about the altercation.

Anything else?

Commenters on the TikTok page where the video apparently originated sparred over which party was responsible for the altercation. A number of commenters were upset that the Mummer waved the Trump flag in the parade-watcher's face, but other commenters said the parade-watcher started things.

"They started verbally assaulting, and they responded," one commenter said. "The verbal assailants then resorted to violence. That's what happened."

"People were there in the crowd," another commenter said. "They saw the whole thing. You wanna antagonize the Mummer, the Mummer will dish it back. The left can't pick and choose."

President thanks 'anonymous tree climber' who puts Trump 2020 flags where only rabid leftists would dare go to steal them

Leftists stealing and vandalizing all manner of campaign materials for President Donald Trump — signs, flags, hats, you name it — is a phenomenon that never seems to let up.

It is, after all, an emotional issue for them:

So when Trump heard that his campaign signs were being stolen in Lufkin, Texas, and that an "anonymous tree climber" replaced them by putting 30 Trump 2020 flags in spots where only ultra-devoted leftists would venture to rip them off, the president was appreciative.

Here's what Trump tweeted Tuesday:

"Love it, thank you!" he added.

U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) tweeted that he "took this picture in Lufkin & sent it to [White House Chief of Staff] Mark Meadows this morning. Pure East Texas can do ingenuity! Now the world has seen it. Gotta love it."

Who's behind the Trump flags atop trees?

KIII-TV called attention to a Facebook page created to promote the so-called "Flag Fairy" of Angelina County:

"The Flag Ninja of Angelina County strikes again!!" one Facebook user wrote. "It's not every day that I get a call that says 'Trump and his posse complete with secret service and limo will be at this secret location to hoist an American Flag and spread some patriotic pride... you in?' I. AM. IN!!!!! What a fun way to start my week!"

Additional photos in the above Facebook post indeed show a tree climber dressed in a Trump costume and carrying a Trump campaign flag with pole — and using ropes and harnesses to hoist himself atop a tree.

How are folks reacting?

While Trump's tweet attracted its share of nasty reactions, many commenters were happy about the turn of events:

  • "Brilliant. Love how patriots never give up. There's always a way!!" one commenter wrote.
  • "Oh my word!!!! Have you ever seen this kind of support for a president??? Something is happening," another commenter noted.
  • "This is great! Can't you just hear the 'Come and take it?!'" another user exclaimed.

And, of course, there was the familiar Lone Star State battle cry:

Man and his girlfriend viciously beaten over their pro-Trump flag in Oklahoma City, police say

Police say that a man and his girlfriend were viciously beaten because they were driving with a pro-Trump flag on their truck in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

The troubling incident unfolded Monday morning in the Bricktown area.

A witness told KOCO-TV that the fight was politically motivated and began when the couple arrived at a gas station with a large "Trump 2020" flag attached to the tailgate of their truck.

"The victim stated he and some other people pulled up to a gas pump," said Sgt. Megan Morgan of the Oklahoma City Police Department.

The report says that there were numerous motorcycle riders at the gas pumps.

"That's when a verbal altercation ensued between the victim and the suspect," she said.

The fight resulted in the flag being torn from the truck.

"A full altercation ensued where a victim and a second victim got injured," Morgan said.

The police said that the man and his girlfriend were beaten so badly that they were bleeding from their nose, mouth, and both eyes. KOCO reported that friends of the couple said on Facebook that they had to receive staples in their heads over their injuries.

Police said that the motorcycle riders at the scene were uncooperative, would not help them identify the attackers, and instead, offered "the usual anti-police rhetoric."

The clerk at the gas station told the police that they did not have exterior security cameras at the station.

Police have asked for the public's help in obtaining information on the suspects in the attack.

Political violence appears to have increased across the country as Election Day nears and passions heighten between Americans who disagree with each other. In one bizarre episode from California in June, a man threatened Black Lives Matter protesters with a chainsaw while yelling racist epithets.

Here's a local news report about the attack:

Man, 60, tells cops he burned Trump flag hanging from home during paper route because he was 'angry'

Police said a 60-year-old man told them he set fire to a flag supporting President Donald Trump — which was hanging from a home on his newspaper route — because he was "angry," NorthcentralPA.com reported.

What are the details?

Harrison Bennett was charged with felony arson after police in Shamokin City, Pennsylvania, said he set the flag ablaze when it was attached to an occupied building, the outlet said.

Bennett is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge John Gembic on Nov. 10, the outlet added.

Officer Tyler R. Bischof said Bennett used a cigarette lighter to burn a Trump flag attached to a house in the 400 block of South Shamokin St. just after 3 a.m. Aug. 27, the outlet reported, citing a Sept. 4 criminal complaint.

The homeowner had a video of the flag burning incident, and a photograph from the video was posted to the Shamokin Crime Watch Facebook page in an attempt to identify him, Bischof told the outlet.

Police said they got a tip that the man in the video may work for a paper in the city, the News-Item, the outlet noted. Turns out Bennett helped another man deliver newspapers along a route that included the scene of the flag burning, the outlet added, citing the complaint.

"Bennett said that he has anger problems and that it spilled over and so he lit the flag," Bischof wrote, according to NorthcentralPA.

What did the suspect have to say?

Bennett made the following written statement: "I got up at 2:00 am and went and helped with newspaper. Was angry and burned flag," the outlet said, citing the complaint.

Besides felony arson, Bennett also was charged with one felony count of risking catastrophe and one count of summary criminal mischief.

Pro-Trump flags and banners seem to be occupying a more prominent space within the news cycle as the presidential election draws closer:

Huge Trump flag unfurled over Black Lives Matter mural on NYC street in front of Trump Tower and paraded around city

Supporters of President Donald Trump decided to get together Tuesday in New York City and march around town with what they said is the largest Trump flag ever, the Daily Mail reported.

And because turnabout is fair play, the group unfurled the flag over the infamous Black Lives Matter mural on Fifth Avenue directly in front of Trump Tower, the outlet said.

The controversial mural — generally viewed as a slap in Trump's face — has been vandalized at least four times since then.

So dozens of Trump supporters dressed in Make America Great Again hats and Trump 2020 T-shirts made sure the flag covered the Black Lives Matter mural for several minutes before beginning a march toward Times Square, during which they recited the Pledge of Allegiance, shouted "Four more years!" and trolled left-wing rioters by parroting their "Whose streets? Our streets!" chant, the outlet noted.

The march of the 75-feet-by-50-feet flag, which says "Trump: Law and Order" and sports a Thin Blue Line design, was organized through a project called "Operation Flag Drop" on Facebook, the Daily Mail said.

'We love all of you so much!'

"We love all of you so much! If I was there today (I'm campaigning in Michigan and Minnesota) I would come down and give you all a big hug!" he wrote before adding, "Happening RIGHT NOW in NYC in front of Trump Tower!"

'No burning, no killing, no fighting, just a peaceful demonstration'

One attendee, Mariano Labsaoy of Puerto Rico, told the Daily Mail he was there to "support our great president Donald J Trump. He has made America the best country on the face of the Earth. Low unemployment, we are safer, we are better, we are stronger. That's why I'm here to support four more years."

Labsaoy also told the outlet that "it's a great feeling knowing that we can use our freedom of expression, to have the freedom to do whatever we want to — all under the law. No burning, no killing, no fighting, just a peaceful demonstration. This is what is called a peaceful demonstration. At the same time, we are not insulting anyone; we are just marching exercising our constitutional right."

Another attendee, Tina Forte, told the outlet that she and her fellow Trump supporters are "not to be ridiculed for loving our country and loving our president because we are not the party of division, we're the heart of America. Loud and proud because Trump supporters need to get loud and proud."

She also told the Daily Mail that "we shouldn't be silent and called racist because we support a president who loves everyone. He loves everyone, he loves America, and you know what? He's the leader of the free world. Under [Democratic presidential nominee Joe] Biden and [Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala] Harris, we won't be free anymore. We will all be communists and socialists, and that is not going to happen, not on my watch."

The outlet noted that some onlookers cheered and clapped for the Trump supporters and no incidents were reported.

When the Trump supporters reached Times Square, they played Frank Sinatra's "New York, New York," and a woman holding an "Indonesian American for Trump" sign gave a speech berating those who oppose the president, the Daily Mail said.

"We are immigrants," she said, according to the outlet. "We came here because we want a successful life."
