‘We want to fight back’: IRS whistleblower SUES Hunter Biden's lawyer for $20 MILLION

With a government as corrupt as ours, it can sometimes seem that the “good guys” never win and that the “bad guys” always get away unscathed.

However, there’s a glimmer of hope.

When IRS investigator turned whistleblower Gary Shapley accused the IRS of covering up Hunter Biden’s tax crimes, he was initially “smeared and really destroyed.” But now the tables have hopefully turned, and Shapley is suing Hunter’s lawyer Abbe Lowell for $20 million.

The amount would be $10 million for Shapley and $10 million for his fellow whistleblower Joseph Zigler for defamation.

“The complaint alleges that Mr. Lowell defamed us and was part of an overall smear campaign to attack both Joe Ziegler and I for coming forward, following the law, going to Congress, and disclosing the preferential treatment that his client was receiving by the Department of Justice, FBI, and IRS,” Shapley tells Glenn Beck of “The Glenn Beck Program.”

Empower Oversight President Tristan Leavitt has worked to protect whistleblowers, and he tells Glenn that he has just testified against the weaponization committee.

“There were three of our FBI clients that have been there in the past,” Leavitt tells Glenn. “It’s very, very common for whistleblowers to be lied about and defamed, and so that’s part of why we really want to create consequences for that.”

“We are supporting, we are funding this lawsuit that Gary and Joe are bringing against Abbe Lowell,” Leavitt continues. “There’s never any consequences for people just lying with impunity. They just get away with it, and so we want to fight back.”

After Attempted Alford Plea, Hunter Biden Reluctantly Pleads Guilty To Avoid Messy Trial

Hunter Biden's defense attempted to change his plea from 'not guilty' to an 'Alford plea' and thereby avoid a trial.

Hunter Biden tries to change plea to no contest in tax evasion case — but judge may not accept it

First son Hunter Biden tried to change his plea to no contest in the tax evasion charges against him, but the judge on the case deferred ruling on the matter.

Jury selection for the case was scheduled to begin on Thursday morning at a federal courthouse in Los Angeles. Biden, 54, had previously pled not guilty to three felony charges and six misdemeanor charges related to tax evasion.

'A plea such as this should not be used to obfuscate the truth.'

However, once the hearing began, his attorneys suddenly announced that Biden intended to change his plea to an Alford plea. An Alford plea is technically a guilty plea in which defendants admit that prosecutors could likely secure a conviction without also having to admit that the allegations against them are true.

Defense attorney Abbe Lowell acknowledged on Thursday that the evidence against Biden is "overwhelming" and claimed that in an effort to bring the case to a quick resolution, Biden has offered to change his plea.

Prosecutors, caught off guard by the sudden turn of events, balked at the offer of an Alford plea.

"Hunter Biden is not innocent. Hunter Biden is guilty," prosecutor Leo Wise told the court. "He is not entitled to plead guilty on special terms that apply only to him."

District Judge Mark Scarsi, appointed by Donald Trump, then declared a short recess, asking all parties to return later that morning.

After court reconvened, Wise reiterated that "the U.S. opposes an Alford plea" in Biden's case.

Lowell argued that "the court is required to accept the plea" and that all the details "can be resolved today," NBC News reported.

Judge Scarsi seemed doubtful. "I haven’t seen a case that tells me I have to accept an Alford plea," he stated.

Scarsi ultimately decided to delay his decision on the matter, asking attorneys for both sides to file briefs to make their case.

"The public justifiably expects the court to seek truth in transparent proceeding," he said during the hearing, per CNN. "A plea such as this should not be used to obfuscate the truth."

According to the DOJ, Hunter Biden willfully neglected to pay at least $1.4 million in federal taxes between 2016 and 2019, using the money to support his "extravagant lifestyle" instead of "paying his tax bills." He also allegedly filed false returns in 2018.

If convicted, he could face up to 17 years behind bars.

In June, a federal jury in Delaware found Hunter Biden guilty of three gun-related charges. He has yet to be sentenced in that case but faces up to 25 years. As it was his first official criminal offense, he is unlikely to receive the maximum penalty.

President Joe Biden has repeatedly insisted he will not pardon his son in either the gun- or the tax-related case. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reiterated on Thursday that the president will not pardon Hunter. She declined to comment on Hunter Biden's attempted plea change, the AP reported.

Hunter Biden pulls bait and switch after House Republicans call his bluff: 'The American people demand the truth'

Hunter Biden is now refusing to appear at a public congressional hearing focusing on allegations of Biden family corruption.

Last November, House Republicans subpoenaed the first son to testify at a December hearing. But Hunter infamously defied the subpoena, telling lawmakers he would testify only at a public hearing — not a closed-door deposition. But when lawmakers initiated contempt proceedings against him, Hunter changed his tune, and, last month, he testified for more than six hours at a closed-door deposition.

Now — despite repeated promises to attend a public hearing — Hunter's attorney Abbe Lowell says the first son will not attend next week's public hearing alongside his former business associates.

"Mr. Biden declines your invitation to this carnival side show," Lowell told House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.).

The attorney responded in a three-page letter that repeatedly mocked Comer's investigation and argued the impeachment inquiry is not a "legitimate exercise of congressional authority."

"Your blatant planned-for-media event is not a proper proceeding but an obvious attempt to throw a Hail Mary pass after the game has ended," Lowell wrote.

In reality, Lowell's response is a so-called "planned-for-media event," having reportedly been leaked to the media before it was sent to Comer. Lowell's mockery of Comer, meanwhile, is all bark and no bite, relying on fluffy rhetoric without substance to try to delegitimize Comer's investigation by having the media disseminate his childish insults.

For his part, Comer responded to the letter in stride, noting that his committee "has called Hunter Biden's bluff."

"Hunter Biden for months stated he wanted a public hearing, but now that one has been offered alongside his business associates that he worked with for years, he is refusing to come," Comer said.

Perhaps the reason Hunter now refuses to testify publicly, Comer suggested, is because his testimony includes alleged contradictions.

Comer explained:

During our deposition and interview phase of our investigation, Hunter Biden confirmed key evidence, including evidence that his father, President Joe Biden, lied to the American people about his family’s business dealings and in fact attended meetings, spoke on speakerphone, and had coffee with his foreign business associates who collectively funneled millions to the Bidens. However, parts of Hunter Biden’s testimony contradict the testimonies of Devon Archer, Jason Galanis, and Tony Bobulinski.

Whether or not Hunter attends, Comer said the hearing on March 20 is moving forward.

"The American people demand the truth and accountability for the Bidens' corruption," Comer said.
