Woke sheriff walks back 'lies': Dyer admits ICE did not make arrests at school bus stops after all



A far-left sheriff in Michigan has walked back some of her comments regarding federal immigration arrests in her jurisdiction.

On Wednesday, Washtenaw County Sheriff Alyshia Dyer took to her Facebook page — which the Detroit News described as her "personal" page, though the account name is Sheriff Alyshia M. Dyer and shares the address, phone number, and website for the sheriff's office — to claim that four people had been arrested near school bus stops in Ypsilanti earlier this week just as schools were let out for the day.

'ICE does NOT target schools for enforcement actions or bus stop locations.'

"On Tuesday (1/27/26), we received multiple reports from community members that ICE detained a mother in front of her child in the Ypsilanti area, along with other residents," Dyer wrote. She also attached a parent letter from Ypsilanti Public Schools Superintendent Alena Zachery-Ross, claiming that "several parents in our community were taken into custody while off school grounds."

Dyer added that "parents connected to local schools" may have been "targeted at a bus stop in Ypsilanti during student drop-off times." She noted that the arrests "did not occur on any school grounds."

Dyer then blamed Immigration and Customs Enforcement because she could not "confirm details" about those reports: "Unfortunately, it is often difficult to confirm details, as ICE frequently provides no advance notice, does not contact Metro Dispatch, and leaves families, schools, and communities to process the impact on their own in the aftermath."

By Thursday, ICE had slammed Dyer's allegations as "lies." "ICE does NOT target schools for enforcement actions or bus stop locations. To be clear, NO children were present during these arrests," the agency said in a statement to the Detroit News.

"Lies like these are just another reason why our officers are grappling with a 1,300% increase in assaults, a 3,200% increase in vehicle attacks and a staggering 8,000% uptick in death threats," the statement added.

Dyer updated her claims on Thursday to note that she had spoken with "immigration enforcement leadership," who reassured her that they had not and will not "do any enforcement on school grounds, or school bus stops." She then passively blamed the officials for some kind of miscommunication.

"They have agreed to better communicate in the future when they leave Washtenaw County," she wrote.

In the statement, ICE clarified that agents "were conducting targeted operations seeking to apprehend illegal aliens with final orders of removal from the United States."

The agents tailed two vehicles leaving a targeted residence and then arrested four individuals during at traffic stop: Delmy Yamileth Molina Vasquez, Gissel Alejandra Pavon Nunes, and Elder Alberto Veliz-Mencia of Honduras and Carolina Hernandez-Aviles of Mexico.

ICE database records confirmed that, as of Friday morning, the three women are detained in an ICE facility in Michigan, but Blaze News could not find any record for Veliz-Mencia. Whether any of the four individuals have criminal records unrelated to immigration is unclear.

Dyer's office and Zachery-Ross' office did not respond to a request for comment from Blaze News.

Dyer, who identifies as "pansexual," was elected in 2024 on a radical agenda. According to her campaign website, she pledged to prevent the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office from "collaborating with ICE" and to provide the "undocumented" with driver's license documentation.

The same month Dyer was sworn into office, the Ypsilanti City Council voted to discontinue saying the Pledge of Allegiance before meetings.

Woke sheriff hopes to affect weather by creating Environmental Crimes Unit, reducing number of patrol cars



A far-left new sheriff in Michigan has hit the ground running, looking to implement policies that will help protect her community against the "impacts of pollution and climate change," according to an exclusive report from the Daily Wire.

In November, Alyshia Dyer (D) bragged that she had become the first female and "pansexual" sheriff of Washtenaw County, the county on the western border of Wayne County, where Detroit is located. A month later, she was sworn into office, even though she would not begin performing official duties until January 1.

The new year has now come and gone, and Sheriff Dyer is ready to make her campaign promise of "using the powers of the Sheriff's Office to protect the environment" a reality.

"The sheriff’s office historically hasn’t been necessarily a strong champion in this work, but there’s no reason we can’t be," Dyer told the Wire.

'Looking at the environment, looking at corporate polluters, looking at the quality of life for residents, it has a really big impact on wellbeing.'

The ideas Dyer has tossed around include installing remote-starters on patrol vehicles to save on gas, reducing the number of patrol cars on the streets by sending out deputies in pairs, and establishing an Environmental Crimes Unit, which would focus on monitoring "air pollution, water contamination, and hazardous waste management."

When the Wire noted that out of Michigan's 83 counties, Washtenaw ranked 10th highest in crime in 2021, Dyer responded with a word salad about the supposed interconnectedness of corporations, the "mental health and wellness" of deputies, and the environment.

"It’s all connected. Looking at, number one, I talked a lot about officer mental health and wellness. Officers can’t effectively do their jobs if they’re not taking care of themselves. Looking at the environment, looking at corporate polluters, looking at the quality of life for residents, it has a really big impact on wellbeing," she explained.

"Hand-in-hand with the environmental crimes is also the corporate crimes."

Dyer also argued that pairing up deputies would help reduce vehicle crashes and relieve stress. "The last thing I want is officers out here sleep-deprived with a gun, angry, driving around. No one wants that," she said.

Dyer admitted to the Wire that understaffing remains a problem and "something we’re definitely focused on." However, her campaign website lamented that "currently, the Sheriff’s Office is predominantly male, white, and not representative of our LGBTQ+ population" and promised to ensure that "hiring practices are inclusive."

Before joining the sheriff's office, Dyer — a self-described "consistent champion of progressive values" — worked as a therapist, a social worker, and in the Detroit Department of Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity.

Woke 'pansexual' sheriff in Michigan excited to implement far-left agenda



A newly elected sheriff in Michigan who ran on a radically far-left platform is excited to implement her agenda, which includes driver's licenses for illegal aliens and a unit of unarmed deputies.

Last month, Democrat Alyshia Dyer sailed to victory in the race for sheriff of Washtenaw County, Michigan, just west of Wayne County, home of Detroit. Washtenaw County includes liberal hotbeds such as Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, where the city council just voted to stop reciting the Pledge of Allegiance at each meeting.

Dyer will fit right in. As part of her campaign pitch, she bragged that she would be the first female and first "pansexual" sheriff of Washtenaw.

As part of the 'fight for racial justice,' Dyer called for providing 'undocumented people' with a driver's license.

Her campaign website slammed the current leadership at the sheriff's office for failing to follow through with its "progressive" promises. "While the current Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office administration may brand itself as progressive, the evidence says otherwise," it claimed.

The website also included the following on the list of Dyer's high-priority "issues":

  • "Fight for Racial Justice";
  • "LGBTQ+, Disability, and Gender Justice"; and
  • "Protect Our Environment."

As part of the "fight for racial justice," Dyer called for providing "undocumented people" with a driver's license. She also pledged not to cooperate with ICE and to "protect immigrants" across the country.

She likewise wants to establish an unarmed community crisis response team to help "de-escalate potential threats with trained personnel," according to the Michigan Daily.

Earlier this year, Sheriff Jerry Clayton opted not to seek a fifth term, and Dyer won the Democratic primary back in August by fewer than 400 votes. She then ran unopposed in the general election.

Though she will not officially begin performing her duties as sheriff until next month, she was sworn into office on Tuesday night. She then spoke to a group of supporters, reiterating her radical ideas and agenda.

"We must acknowledge the flaws in our system rooted in colonial histories that often promoted using our legal system for racist, classist, and sexist practices which we are still grappling with as a profession today," she said, according to the Midwesterner.

As part of her effort to curtail those bigoted "practices," Dyer — a former therapist and social worker who previously worked in the Detroit Department of Civil Rights, Inclusion, and Opportunity — promised to bar deputies from conducting "unnecessary traffic stops."

"It doesn’t mean we’re not going to pull people over," she insisted previously. "What it means is, we’re not going to pull people over for the petty stuff – you know, the crack in the windshield – the loud exhaust – the stuff that’s really related to income."

She also apparently intends to continue abiding by DEI-related precepts.

"The more we can have diverse teams of thinkers and different people from across the county involved, the more that we effectively create good policy," she said.
