Biden claims he received medical evaluation after debate, but the fine print tells the actual story: 'Brief check'

President Joe Biden is now claiming that he received a post-debate medical evaluation.

During an hour-long meeting with Democratic governors late Wednesday, one governor asked Biden about his physical condition, according to Politico. The question reportedly prompted Biden to say he remains in good health, which he knows because he received a medical checkup after the debate. He even knocked on wood "for effect," Politico reported.

Contradictions inside the White House press shop are not the only problem.

The admission raised a serious question on Thursday: Who is telling the truth?

That's because in the hours before Biden's meeting with the Democratic governors, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters that Biden had not been seen by a doctor.

"Has the president had any medical exams since his last physical in February?" CNN correspondent MJ Lee asked.

"We were able to talk to his doctor about that, and that is a 'no,'" Jean-Pierre responded.

Later in the press briefing, a second reporter asked why Biden has not received a medical evaluation if, as the White House has insisted, he was infected with a cold and a doctor was with him on the debate trip. Jean-Pierre did not answer the question directly. She did, however, downplay the seriousness of Biden's cold, which was confusing because the cold itself was one of the excuses offered for Biden's poor debate performance.

Not only did Biden contradict Jean-Pierre, but so did her own deputy.

"Several days [after the debate], the president was seen to check on his cold and was recovering well," White House senior deputy press secretary Andrew Bates told CNN.

Contradictions inside the White House press shop are not the only problem.

As Biden and the White House now try to use the checkup to assuage questions about Biden's health, the truth is that any checkup was brief and did not include a full battery of cognitive tests.

Politico reported that Biden received a "short checkup ... due to lingering symptoms from his cold." A source told the outlet the exam was "brief and did not include any major tests." CNN, moreover, corroborated the reporting, with sources saying Biden received only a "brief check," not a formal physical.

There Is Something Demented About Biden’s Lies

The need to inject yourself into everyone else’s tragedies -- often with lies -- isn’t empathy, it is narcissism.

WH issues odd response to layup question on whether cocaine could belong to Bidens: 'I don’t have a response to that'

The White House directly addressed accusations on Thursday that cocaine discovered at the White House belonged to the first family.

While en route to South Carolina, a reporter asked deputy press secretary Andrew Bates about former President Donald Trump's claim that the illicit drug belonged to President Joe Biden or first son Hunter Biden.

"Are you willing to say that that’s not the case, that they don’t belong to them?" the reporter asked.

A layup question, right? Wrong. For some odd reason, Bates did not outright deny the accusation but instead declined to answer the question — and publicly clear the Bidens — by citing the Hatch Act.

"I don’t have a response to that because we have to be careful about the Hatch Act," Bates said.

The Hatch Act restricts civil-service employees from engaging in partisan conduct. It's not clear how denying that the cocaine belonged to President Biden or Hunter Biden would have constituted a violation of the law. After all, Bates' very job is to serve as a spokesman for the president and White House.

What is even more confusing is that after citing the Hatch Act, Bates launched into a partisan diatribe slamming Trump — under guise of attacking the "last administration."

Later in the gaggle, Bates declined to promise the White House would be transparent about the cocaine investigation because he does not want "to engage on hypotheticals about it."

Anything else?

Fox News host Kayleigh McEnany, who worked in the Trump administration, explained Thursday why the cocaine cannot belong to the Bidens.

The answer? It's simple: they weren't there.

"For it to be Hunter Biden— he left on Friday, he was at Camp David. There is no way. It is inconceivable to think cocaine could sit for a 72-hour period," she explained. "So I would rule him out at this point."

Indeed, the Bidens departed for Camp David on Friday and returned to the White House on Tuesday. The cocaine, on the other hand, was discovered on Sunday.

Meanwhile, NBC News reported Thursday the cocaine was discovered in a different location than previously claimed. It was, according to the report, found in the White House's West Executive entrance, not the West Wing lobby.

More from NBC News:

The cocaine was found in an entrance area between the foyer and a lower-level lobby, the sources said. The entrance is near where some vehicles, like the vice president’s limo or SUV park. It is one floor below the main West Wing offices and the same floor as the Situation Room and a dining area.

The Secret Service is conducting forensic tests to help determine who is responsible for the cocaine. NBC reported that the investigation could conclude as early as next week.

But despite the White House being one of the most secured buildings in the world — no one enters or leaves without the Secret Service knowing about it — law enforcement sources told Politico the identity of the person responsible for the cocaine may never be found.

Reporters highlight how WH lied about nature of Biden's controversial speech — but WH doesn't like the accountability

Mainstream media reporters called out President Joe Biden on Thursday after the tone of his speech contradicted what officials had promised.

The White House, however, did not appreciate the accountability.

What did the WH promise?

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked directly whether Biden's speech would be "political," and she denied that it would be.

"No, it’s not a political speech," Jean-Pierre said. "This is an opportunity, again, for the president to directly have a conversation with the American people."

Reporters, however, appeared not to buy what she was selling, because they repeatedly asked Jean-Pierre how the speech would not be political if Biden would confront "MAGA Republicans" and the threat he believes they pose to American democracy.

What did reporters say?

During Biden's controversial speech, reporters noted how, in fact, Biden's speech was entirely political.

"'Good manners is nothing they’ve ever suffered from,' @POTUS says about protesters at his speech, in which he accused former President Trump and 'MAGA Republicans' of threatening the foundation of U.S. democracy. The White House said earlier today the speech was not political," Reuters reporter Jeff Mason noted.

CBS News reporter Ed O'Keefe, meanwhile, noted the highly partisan optics of Biden's speech.

"Like or loathe what he said tonight, it should be noted: The president spoke tonight on the grounds of a national park, flanked by US Marines, and took direct, specific aim at his predecessor and members of the Republican Party," O'Keefe noted. "Another thing we don’t see everyday."

CNN anchor Brianna Keilar was also heavily critical of Biden.

"Whatever you think of this speech the military is supposed to be apolitical. Positioning Marines in uniform behind President Biden for a political speech flies in the face of that," she tweeted. "It’s wrong when Democrats do it. It’s wrong when Republicans do it."

How did WH respond?

Deputy press secretary Andrew Bates directly responded to each of the journalists, using reporting examples from each respective news outlet to deny that Biden's speech was overly political.

"Except it's not political. In the same way CNN isn't political but has made the same warnings," Bates told Keilar, pointing to CNN stories in which the outlet connected the fight for democracy and Trump supporters.

In response to O'Keefe and Mason, Bates pointed to three CBS News stories and three Reuters stories.

The stories, however, are not comparable to what Biden said. Yes, they may be of similar content, but the criticism of Biden's speech stems from exactly what Mason observed, namely the White House said it would not be "political" — and yet it was.
