Councilmembers seek to silence NYPD officials critical of leftist anti-cop agenda

Several Democratic New York City councilmembers have sponsored a bill introduced in September that would significantly restrict what New York Police Department officials can post on social media.

The legislation, "Establishing rules of decorum for posting on official social media accounts," was proposed by Councilwoman Nantasha Williams (D) and has collected seven co-sponsors, including Democratic councilmembers Gale Brewer, Lincoln Restler, Shahana Hanif, Althea Stevens, Alexa Avilés, Shekar Krishnan, and Christopher Marte.

'The far left is not happy enough tying the hands of our police officers. Now they are trying to silence them too.'

Williams' bill seeks to require the city to "promulgate rules establishing minimum standards relating to decorum that all agencies must follow in posting on official social media accounts."

The posts cannot "insult, intimidate, or harass the public and shall not prohibit the posting of statistical or factual information." The bill's "minimum" standards declare that officials cannot post anything "attributing negative characteristics or traits to particular persons or to groups of persons," "using language that is intended to incite violence," and "using language that is intended to intimidate."

Williams' legislation also mandates that the city establish a complaint-reporting mechanism for potential violations of these standards. Additionally, the city would be required to launch efforts to educate the public about the new standards and its reporting system.

The bill carves out exceptions to official social media accounts of elected officials and accounts associated with an online alias.

Williams wrote to fellow councilmembers in an email, "The need for this legislation has become increasingly evident, most recently highlighted by the actions of NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell."

"This legislation is a proactive step toward ensuring that our social media platforms are used to inform and engage the public, not for personal attacks or politically motivated behavior," she added.

Some NYPD officials, including Chell, have used their social media accounts to push back on leftist politicians' anti-cop agenda.

In May, Chell torched Councilmember Tiffany Cabán (D) for calling the department's response to the Columbia University pro-Hamas protests "a colossal disgrace," "a horrifying affront to democracy in free speech," and "an abject failure of public safety."

Chell responded to Cabán's statement, calling it "garbage" and noting that it "is coming from a person who hates our city and certainly does not represent the great people of NYC."

"Last night's criminal conduct by entitled non accountable students and the support they receive from Councilmember Tiffany Caban is a colossal disgrace," Chell fired back at the councilmember. "A horrifying affront to democracy and proper behavior from people who are not accountable for their behavior. This was an abject failure of how civilized people are expected to behave in society while continually acting like a perpetual victim."

Chell's statement prompted the Department of Investigation to launch a probe at the request of Council Speaker Adrienne Adams (D) and the Legal Aid Society.

"These posts can often convey inaccurate or misleading information and could potentially incite threats of violence," Adams claimed. "This conduct is dangerous, unethical, unprofessional because included in the department's mission is to preserve peace, protect the people and reduce fear at the preliminary budget."

In addition to Chell's social media posts, the department came under fire after publishing its first "NYPD: Most Wanted" video in March. The two-minute, action-packed clip showed officers taking down "real-life individuals facing criminal charges."

According to NYPD spokesperson Tarik Sheppard, the department created the video and others like it to "push back on the misinformation that's out there."

"Because if we don't, it could cause damage to the reputation of our cops and the work that we're doing," Sheppard told the Associated Press.

Councilman Robert Holden (D) pushed back against Williams' proposed bill, stating, "The far left is not happy enough tying the hands of our police officers."

"Now they are trying to silence them too. When will this lunacy stop?" Holden asked.

Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R) said, "When the City Council starts legislating what public agencies can and can't say, that's not governance — that's censorship."

"This isn't just wrong; it's un-American. Forcing agencies to simply toe the party line and follow a script or face legal retribution is authoritarianism, plain and simple, and it flies in the face of everything that our Constitution and the First Amendment stands for," Ariola added.

Last month, NYPD Interim Commissioner Thomas Donlon announced a plan to enact a "one voice" policy within the department, warning officials, "There's only one voice in this department, and that's me."

The NYPD did not respond to a request for comment from the New York Post.

NYC man filmed hacking police with machete won't be charged with attempted murder

A deranged Brooklyn man was caught on film last week hacking at NYPD officers with a machete. Although wounded in the attack, the officers nevertheless managed to subdue the suspect.

This bloodletting was apparently not enough to convince a New York City grand jury to hold 40-year-old Jean Blain accountable for his alleged actions. While willing to hit Blain with some lesser charges, the jury decided not to indict him with attempted murder.

NYPD officers were called to an apartment on New York Avenue near Beverley Road around 3:20 p.m. on Jan. 22, following reports of a man acting erratically, reported the New York Daily News.

Officers reportedly spoke to Blain's family prior to engaging him.

The New York Post indicated that Blain has been arrested on at least three other occasions and has a history of emotional disturbances. In 2015, he was arrested for reportedly exposing his genitals to women in Times Square. On another occasion, he was arrested for allegedly stealing his neighbor's car.

Footage of the incident shows Blain, who reportedly also goes by "Insane Blain," beginning to freak out as officers calmly attempt to make the arrest.

"No! No! No!" roars Blain, still seated on his bed.

"Please be cooperative," responds one of the officers.

"You know what?" shouts Blain, sliding a hand under the sheets and grabbing a hidden machete. "F*** that."

The deranged man stands on the bed and raises the machete.

Someone off-camera yells, "Oh sh**, look out!" as Blain begins hacking repeatedly at the officers.

Police indicated that Blain slashed a 40-year-old sergeant on the right side of the head. Another was slashed on the wrist while attempting to subdue the attacker. The third officer was reportedly struck by the machete on the shoulder.

The officers were taken to Kings County Hospital and have since been discharged.

Sources told the Post that Blain, who was ordered held without bail Wednesday, had allegedly slashed another victim two weeks earlier, cutting the victim's ear and hand just three blocks away in an unrelated, unprovoked attack.

The victim, Giovanty Guinea, told the Post, "I just went to get my coffee and he came out of the store."

"He asked me, 'What do you want?'" continued Guinea. "I didn't say anything and he just attacked me. I didn't know what to do. I just ran."

"I just want justice," added Guinea. "He tried to kill me. That's never happened to me before. And he tried to kill me."

Blain has not yet been charged in connection to Guinea's attack.

Despite his alleged history of violence and the distinct possibility that any machete stroke could have been life-ending, a grand jury decided during Blain's appearance in Brooklyn Criminal Court that he should be spared from attempted murder charges largely due to his supposed mental instability.

The Daily News noted he was, however, ultimately charged with assault, menacing, and weapon possession.

Vincent Vallelong, president of the Sergeants Benevolent Association, indicated in a letter to members that the grand jury "refused to indict him for Attempted Murder and were undecided on charges of Assault in the First Degree."

"This unbalanced justice system has created an unprecedented dangerous environment," wrote Vallelong. "Had the machete not been dull, we would have been attending at least one police funeral, possibly more. Why is this case not eligible for remand? Who takes responsibility if this deranged man harms or kills others while he is free awaiting trial?"

Vallelong stressed that New York City officials "have proven that they are clueless in how to address real-life daily dangers that so many New Yorkers are needlessly facing."

Blain is currently being held in psychiatric ward as investigators look into his alleged attack on Guinea.

Blain's apparent machete attack came just days before a mob of illegal aliens viciously assaulted NYPD officers. The migrant mob was released without bail shortly thereafter.

Pizza restaurant worker learns unforgettable lesson after telling police officers to leave restaurant

A San Francisco pizza joint fired one of its employees this week for telling police officers dining at the restaurant that they were not welcome to eat there.

On Sunday, several police officers entered the Pizza Squared restaurant in downtown San Francisco. But, according to the San Francisco Police Officers Association, one of the restaurant's employees told the officers they had to leave because "they were not welcome in the restaurant."

SFPOA President Tracy McCray told KTVU-TV that officers had frequented the restaurant but had never encountered such anti-police "bigotry."

\u201cToday, a @pizzasquaredsf employee told several of our officers that they were not welcome in the restaurant. The SFPOA notified the owners of the restaurant of the shameful and hateful actions of one of their employees. We appreciate the owners' swift apology...(Tweet 1 of 2)\u201d
— San Francisco POA (@San Francisco POA) 1675050124

The restaurant's owners — Christina and Ryan Siu — took swift action, firing the employee who had only been on the job for days.

"This employee was a trainee & on his third day. When our shift manager told us about the incident after it happened, we expressly told him we didn’t share his views & that he was out of line. He was fired at the end of the day. When we notified by SFPOA, we apologized," the restaurant wrote on Twitter.

In a complete statement, the owners explained:

Over the past weekend a trainee was working the counter when several San Francisco police officers patronized our store. Unbeknownst to us, the trainee mistreated the officers. We were since contacted by the Police Officers Association regarding the matter at which time we immediately gave our sincere apology for this unfortunate incident. The trainee was not hired because he was not a good fit. We at Pizza Squared want to make it abundantly clear that we would never refuse service to anyone based on their background, profession, race or gender. This is not political for us, we welcome anyone who comes through our doors with a smile.

The SFPOA praised the restaurant for taking immediate action and apologizing.

"We were pleased to receive an immediate response from the owners, including a sincere apology for their employee’s actions and a commitment to meet with the affected officers and make this unfortunate situation right," McCray said.

Police Will Keep Quitting In Droves Until The Left Stops Neutering Them With Nonsense ‘Reforms’

Until the left departs from its radical racial ideology, police officers will keep departing from their jurisdictions.

Media, politicians are 'burning down the institution of policing' in US and turning it into a 'dying' profession, angry FOP official says

Joe Gamaldi — national vice president of the Fraternal Order of Police — on Tuesday told Fox News that the media and politicians are "burning down the institution of policing" in America and turning it into a "dying" profession.

Fox News added that Gamaldi — also a sergeant in the Houston police department — told the show's producer that the recent spike in police resignations and retirements, as well as the drop in recruitments and applications, is something he's "never seen."

What else did he say?

An animated and angry Gamali spelled out the crisis for the cable network:

For the better part of a decade, we've had the media and politicians systematically burning down the institution of policing in this country, and now we're just living in the ashes. Retirements are up nationwide 45%. Resignations are up 20%. The NYPD saw a 40% spike in people leaving the department. In Seattle, they're having hundreds of police officers leave their department. And the sad part is ... we don't have anybody to take their place! Because recruitment is tanking worse than the stock market was last week! Applications are down 40% in Massachusetts, 80% down in New Jersey. In Illinois, they're down 70%; Chicago alone has seen an 83% reduction in applications. This is leading to dangerous understaffing on the streets at a time when violence against us is through the roof ... Response times are through the roof. We don't even have people to investigate the crimes! In Seattle, they're not investigating sexual assault cases because they need all hands on deck on the street. I've been a police officer for 17 years ... It is not hyperbole when I say our profession is dying. We have been denigrated. We've been demonized. And we've been treated like crap for years. And we're all sick of it.

Fox News pointed out that so far this year, 173 cops have been shot in the line of duty; in the same time period last year, the number was 158.

Gamaldi also told the cable network that 2020's infamous "defund the police" outcry after George Floyd died in the hands of Minneapolis officers was the culmination of inflammatory rhetoric against police.

He also argued that policing is the only profession in America aside from the armed forces that involves the daily prospect of people who are "actively trying to kill us."

Judge orders far-left Portland official — who earns over $127K annually — to pay up on defaulted credit card accounts after she failed to appear in court

A judge in Multnomah County, Oregon, ruled that Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty — who earns more than $127,000 annually — must pay a credit card company more than $16,000 in overdue debts and fees after she failed to appear in court, KPTV-TV reported.

The far-left official has been a controversial figure in city politics. Having joined the bleating chorus calling for defunding police in 2020 — and specifically saying Portland cops should be pulled from 911 calls that don't involve crimes — Hardesty called 911 on a Lyft driver for canceling her ride late that year. Afterward she blamed her fear of "white supremacists" for her actions, despite residing in a far-left mecca.

What are the details on the judge's ruling?

Circuit Judge Judith Matarazzo issued default orders earlier this month on the heels of lawsuits Bank of America filed in November, KPTV said. Hardesty defaulted on two credit card accounts, the station said, citing documents.

In the first case, Matarazzo on March 21 approved a $4,900 lien against Hardesty, KPTV said, adding that an $11,700 penalty followed in a second case three days later.

The station said documents show neither Hardesty nor a legal representative appeared in court over the matter.

KPTV added that Portland budget filings show Hardesty made a six-figure salary over the last three years as an elected commissioner; the 2022-23 city budget shows Hardesty will make $127,712 this year.

Anything else?

In a matter allegedly related to Hardesty's defund-the-police push, in December she sued the police union, its former president, and an officer for $5 million after being falsely linked to a hit-and-run crash, KPTV said in a separate story.

A motorist in March 2021 told police Hardesty hit her vehicle, and the suit claims then-Portland Police Association President Brian Hunzenker leaked the false allegation to other city employees and the media, the station said, adding that Hunzenker later resigned. The suit also claims Officer Kerri Ottoman spread the allegation to a political action committee, KPTV said.

Hardesty was ruled out as a suspect the day after the crash, the station reported, adding that police earlier this year called their actions a misunderstanding.

However, Hardesty’s attorney said the leaks were motivated by the commissioner’s race and her opposition to police practices, KPTV said.

Lefty Susan Sarandon taken to the woodshed for comparing cops gathered to honor murdered NYPD officer to 'fascists'

Liberal actress and activist Susan Sarandon was hit heavily with criticism after she shared a social media post comparing the NYPD's funeral turnout to "fascism" and suggested that cops are not needed for a functional society.

Thousands of NYPD officers gathered on Friday to honor their murdered brother in blue, Detective Jason Rivera, after he and his partner were killed in an ambush-style attack while responding to a domestic incident.

What are the details?

The actress shared a social media post from writer Danny Haiphong, which showed the huge turnout for the slain officer and was captioned, "I'm gonna tell my kids this is what fascism looks like."

She shared a screenshot of the image in apparent endorsement and captioned the snap, "So, if all these cops weren't needed for CRIME that day, doesn't that mean they aren't needed ANY day?" She added hashtag #abolishthepolice to the screenshot.

pic.twitter.com/lM1ZXN8dWY
— Susan Sarandon (@Susan Sarandon) 1643756013

What's been the response?

One commenter wrote, "Susan— I also disappointed in you. Left wing is one thing but being inconsiderate of our finest is just wrong on so many levels. You owe the officer's family along with the force an apology. Your comment is reprehensible."

Another added, "One woman lost her husband and the other lost her son. They were protecting a mother from her abusive son when they were assassinated. These officers come from all over the country to pay respects and support the families. #ShameOnYou There, but before the grace of God."

Yet another user spat, "[E]xtremely wrong of you to make these two honorable gentlemen your personal pawns in your dumb little game."

One police mom shared her own personal story of how her family was affected by the star's remarks and added, "So totally offensive in SO many ways. PLEASE feel free to NEVER call 911---EVER. My son (LA County Deputy) became a cop following his father's footsteps --who was killed in the line of DUTY...."

"It [is] the logic of a three-year-old," another user wrote. "I suggest she does the duties of a cop for a year and then let's see how fascist she thinks they are. Cops protect little children, rescue those in distress and vulnerable everywhere. All she does it talk for a living."

Another Twitter user ripped her for being "disgusting" and said the actress was redundant.

"You are disgusting!! We need police officers, we absolutely DON'T need worthless 'actors/actresses' like you! So pathetic to disrespect the fallen officers and their families. You should be next on the 'cancel culture' list!!" the user thundered.

Teacher ordered to take down 'political' Thin Blue Line flag honoring her brother, a former cop — but Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ symbols are just fine

A school district in western Washington state ordered a teacher to take down a pro-police Thin Blue Line flag in her classroom that honors her brother since it's a "political symbol" and could cause a "disruption" — yet Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ symbols and messages apparently are just fine, Jason Rantz of KTTH-AM reported.

What are the details?

Chris Sutherland — the brother of the unnamed teacher at Marysville Middle School, which is about 40 minutes north of Seattle — is a former officer who served with the Marysville Police Department and also was a school resource officer during a deadly high school shooting in the city, Rantz wrote.

Sutherland's sister initially placed a Thin Blue Line sticker on her laptop to honor her brother and other law enforcement officers, KTTH noted — but an assistant principal objected to the sticker.

Rantz — citing a human resources document on the incident — reported that the assistant principal had "concerns about how students, families, and community members might interpret what the image is intending to communicate, and that this interpretation may cause a disruption to the learning environment."

But the objections were soon dropped, KTTH reported.

The HR document added that the the teacher also displayed a Thin Blue Line flag on her classroom's bulletin board surrounded by photos of her brother, Rantz wrote.

EXCLUSIVE: A teacher was forced to remove a pro-police flag from her classroom, claiming it's political & could off… https://t.co/eMF1FzZMPy

— Jason Rantz on KTTH Radio (@jasonrantz) 1632704452.0

Well, that prompted a second assistant principal to order the teacher to take down the flag, KTTH said.

"They told her that it's controversial to have that flag up," Sutherland told Rantz on his KTTH program. "That it makes kids and staff feel unsafe, which to me, that does not make sense at all."

Rantz added that an HR representative from Marysville School District 25 sent the teacher a letter of clarification about the issue indicating officials were "highly concerned about the impact of this political symbol on students, staff, and families of Marysville Middle School" and that there were "concerns from other staff members about how this political symbol might negatively impact the overall professional work environment."

Remove the flag!

The letter ordered the teacher to remove the flag and told her her to "refrain from using the 'Thin Blue Line Flag' symbol" in the classroom, KTTH said, adding that failure to do so "may result in further disciplinary action."

The district confirmed to the station that the situation is a personnel matter and wouldn't comment. Rantz added that while the letter of clarification said the district supports police, a district spokesperson wouldn't explain why a Thin Blue Line flag is banned for being political while Black Lives Matter and LGBTQ messages and symbols are allowed.

BLM, LGBTQ messages apparently are no problem

Sutherland told Rantz that his sister has seen BLM messages in classrooms and "hanging on walls, which she was told is OK. Just for whatever reason, just the Thin Blue Line flag cannot be hung up there." Rantz added that the teacher also displayed an LGBTQ pride flag to support a gay family member.

Yet, KTTH said, symbols of BLM and LGBTQ — which have political undertones — haven't been targeted by the district for removal.

Teacher takes down Thin Blue Line flag

Rantz said the teacher took down her Thin Blue Line flag display but told the district that the ordeal "has been the most traumatic and hostile" experience for her at the school to date.

She added that the order to remove the flag came from "an agenda rather than really wanting to gain any understanding of me, who I am, or my story," she added in respond to the HR rep, KTTH reported.

LA teacher hangs 'F*** the police,' 'F*** AmeriKKKa' posters in high school classroom — parent blasts display as taxpayer-funded 'brainwashing'

A parent with a student at Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, California, recently sounded the alarm about several vulgar, left-wing political posters on display in one of the student's classrooms that denigrate police and condemn America as racist.

What are the details?

According to the nonprofit group Parents Defending Education, the unidentified parent captured images of the posters and called the display an example of the "disgusting brainwashing of students with taxpayer dollars."

In one photo, it appears that an American flag is carelessly strewn atop a piece of furniture while a Palestinian flag, a transgender pride flag, a Black Lives Matter flag, and an LGBTQ+ flag are hung neatly on a classroom wall.

Then a second photo shows two posters — one saying "F*** the police" and another saying "F*** AmeriKKA. This is native land" — on display on a different portion of the classroom walls.

History class at Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles Unified Schools. https://t.co/t9DAAFYQas

— Parents Defending Education (@DefendingEd) 1631655510.0

The anti-police poster also includes text that reads: "Policing is a violent, anti-Black, settler institution that originated as slave patrols. Their primary mandate is to protect property and to militarily enforce White supremacist capitalism. They are doing their jobs as they are trained and paid to do. You can't fix what isn't broken. That's why we fight for police and prison abolition."

The other poster associates America with words and phrases such as "colonialism, genocide, slavery, imperialism, war on drugs, Jim Crow, and prison lands."

What else?

In a statement to Fox News, the Los Angeles Unified School District confirmed that the posters will be taken down, though it made no mention of the flags.

"L.A. Unified is aware of the specific classroom decorations," the district said. "The specific posters will be taken down. We maintain and uphold student and staff confidentiality and therefore cannot comment on any of our students or employees."

In a separate statement to Parents Defending Education, the district at first seemed to defend the teacher's decision to display controversial political memorabilia in class.

"Across the nearly 630,000 students and about 30,000 teachers district-wide, individual teachers decorate their rooms in a variety of ways, with some decorations being directly tied to or in support of our district curriculum, while others are inclined to adorn based on their freedom of expression and individuality," that statement read.

Though it added: "While utilizing decorations in our learning environments, all L.A. Unified teachers are expected to adhere to district policies and to be mindful of our mission to educate children in a classroom that reflects all our policies of inclusion and respectful treatment of individual rights. Any displays that are determined to be overtly and objectively political or otherwise run afoul of our policies of inclusion and respectful treatment of others will be taken down and will be handled administratively."
