MSNBC host melts down live on air when star impeachment witness issues full-throated Trump endorsement: 'An absolute yes'

MSNBC host Ari Melber expressed shock on Wednesday when a star witness at Donald Trump's first impeachment inquiry endorsed the former president.

In 2019, Gordon Sondland, then-United States ambassador to the United Nations, testified as a key witness in Trump's first impeachment inquiry in which Trump was accused of abusing his power as president by withholding military support from Ukraine unless Ukraine investigated Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden. Sondland's testimony implicated Trump and other top administration officials. However, two days after the Senate acquitted Trump, Sondland was fired.

'That is how badly the Biden-Harris team have prosecuted their job.'

Despite being fired, Sondland still supported Trump. But that changed after Jan. 6.

On Wednesday, Melber asked Sondland if he stands by his Trump disavowal.

"No, I don't stand by it, and I'll tell you why," Sondland answered. "I've now lived four years under the Biden-Harris policies, and I have to say that those policies are not only becoming an existential threat to our country's way of life but to our allies as well."

That answer sent Melber into a frenzy of interrupting Sondland and shouting.

"I'm going to let you finish, but this is so striking! You said it was a 'no for me' after that — after Jan. 6. And here we are right now, and you're saying it's a 'yes' for you?" the MSNBC host interjected.

"It is a yes for me. It is an absolute yes for me," Sondland responded. "That is how badly the Biden-Harris team have prosecuted their job."

Melber was beside himself, unable to comprehend why Sondland would support Trump. And when Melber invoked the argument that Jan. 6 was a "kind of attack on democracy [that] is bigger than any policy," Sondland quickly shut down that talking point.

"I am seeing so many attacks on democracy that eclipse Jan. 6," Sondland replied.

Later in the interview, Sondland reiterated that he is supporting Trump because the Biden-Harris administration, in his view, has decimated America.

Sondland first announced his support for Trump in June before President Biden stepped away from the race. At the time, Sondland argued that Trump has the solutions to fix an America that has declined under Biden's leadership. The Democratic Party's installation of Vice President Kamala Harris as its presidential nominee has apparently only solidified Sondland's view.

Bill Maher guest tells MSNBC host to his face the problem with legacy media networks: 'It's propaganda all the time!'

Writer Andrew Sullivan told MSNBC host Ari Melber to his face on Friday that he works for a propaganda company.

During a lengthy debate on Bill Maher's HBO show "Real Time" about the significance of Donald Trump's political resurgence, Sullivan observed how the Democratic Party's reaction to Trump is eroding American democracy.

"What the Democrats have done the last four years, which is respond to Trump by going even further to the left, means that we are losing the legitimacy of the system," Sullivan said. "When you lose that core legitimacy, you lose your democracy — that's where we are really going to lose our democracy because we don’t believe in it any more.

The left's overreaction, according to Sullivan, is driving Americans to distrust "all the institutions" and to support "a strongman" like Trump. Sullivan, therefore, predicted Trump will defeat President Joe Biden in November.

Melber, in response, told Sullivan that he made "fair points" but criticized him for sounding "a little bit both-sides-y."

While the MSNBC host acknowledged problems with the Democratic Party's "overreaction to Trump," Melber immediately absolved Democrats by claiming "there's not equivalence here." He explained:

There isn't a both-sides-ism to this decay, and what Trump does — and I agree at times he may draw his opponents into messy dumb feuds — but he is the one banking on a cynicism, an attack on democracy, and a complete rejection of the policy-democracy that you want because they didn’t even have a platform. So he’s saying, it’s just me. You don’t even know what I’m going to do. Just vote for me. No platform. And you’ve got a whole Republican Party that’s basically codifying that.

Melber's response, according to Sullivan, demonstrated the exact problems with TV networks like MSNBC, Melber's employer.

"You know what would be good at MSNBC is if you actually did think about both sides and weigh the arguments and make constructive arguments against that side while respecting them," Sullivan said.

"You don't do that — it's propaganda all the time!" he exclaimed.

Sullivan's observation clearly struck a nerve with Melber, who denied it is true. And to be fair, Melber hosts many Republicans and Trump supporters on his show.

But Sullivan's point holds true for most of MSNBC and the legacy media in the eyes of a majority of Americans, which is why trust in the media remains near record lows. It's also why alternative forms of media — like independent journalism, podcasts, and subscription-based models — are overtaking traditional media.

MSNBC host admits inconvenient truth about Omar being removed from committee: 'That is where it started'

MSNBC host Ari Melber admitted Thursday the inconvenient truth about Rep. Ilhan Omar's removal from the House Foreign Affairs Committee: Democrats set the precedent.

Democrats voiced their outrage with Omar's removal after Thursday's vote, which broke down along party lines. They accused Republicans of targeting Omar because she is Muslim and African.

But the truth is more complicated than that. As Melber pointed out, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi lorded over the process that resulted in two Republicans — Reps. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) — being stripped of their committee assignments two years go. And, as House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has explained, Omar was only removed from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

"Speaker Pelosi did boot people off the committee. That is where it started," Melber said on his show. "You can say for better reasons, but once you go down the road of saying you're going to police committees this way, I do think it gets to really difficult tradeoffs."

Surprisingly, Melber expressed agreement with both sides of the issue, first noting that Omar is guilty of making anti-Semitic statements, while also toeing the Democratic line that she is being targeted for her looks.

But, in the end, Melber reiterated that Democrats established this standard.

"The third thing can be true — and this is where you know you might lose some people — but the third thing that can be true is: It was the Democrats who erected a new standard in the last Congress to boot people off a committee," he said. "Different reasons, but the third thing is true."

Indeed, prior to Omar's removal from the Foreign Affairs Committee, some Democrats expressed regret that their party ignored institutional norms and set a new precedent in 2021 when Greene and Gosar were stripped of their committee assignments.

Still, McCarthy said Thursday that he will organize a bipartisan group of lawmakers to codify a new code of conduct for lawmakers after members of both parties expressed concerned about removing members from committees.

This Insane 2020 Time Magazine Article Explains Exactly Why The Left Fears Losing Twitter

An astonishing but largely forgotten story in Time Magazine explains why there is so much leftist concern today about Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.

MSNBC host brutally mocked for lack of self-awareness when expressing concern over Elon Musk buying Twitter

MSNBC host Ari Melber was slapped with a brutal lesson in self-awareness on Monday after expressing fear that Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter would result in election manipulation.

What are the details?

Melber, speaking on his show "The Beat With Ari Melber," complained that Musk could exploit Twitter to manipulate democracy.

"If you own all of Twitter or Facebook or what have you, you don't have to explain yourself. You don't even have to be transparent," Melber said.

"You could secretly ban one party's candidate or all of its candidates, all of its nominees. Or you could just secretly turn down the reach of their stuff, and turn up the reach of something else and the rest of us might not even find out until after the election," he added.

What was the reaction?

Melber's concerns immediately drew fierce backlash because Twitter already engages in "content moderation" practices that seemingly do exactly what Melber is concerned about.

A prime example is the bombshell New York Post story about the Hunter Biden laptop. Twitter intentionally suppressed the story over "lack of authoritative reporting on the origins of the materials included in the article." But as it turned out, the story was 100% true. Twitter also purged tens of thousands of accounts after the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol, for example.

Here is how people responded to Melber's commentary:

  • "The utter shamelessness for MSNBC to say this with a straight face in light of what has actually occurred on Twitter over the past few years," Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said.
  • "This is exactly what the Machine\Left\Democrats have done to their opponents for years, you absolute [clown] @AriMelber.Enjoy the ride into irrelevance…," David Rubin reacted.
  • "Twitter manipulating the reach of stories for political reasons during an election? Nah, that could never happen," reporter Jerry Dunleavy mocked.
  • "The utter lack of self-awareness in this clip is the thing that makes it," Noam Blum observed.
  • "I can’t even hold in my head, the idea that @msnbc would be airing this. Isn’t this *their* playbook? It seems like complaining about the loss of media gaslighting as a monopoly. Or something," Eric Weinstein said.
  • "Ari Melber making Michael Scott seem like the king of self-awareness with this one," John Cooper, communications director at the Heritage Foundation, said.
  • "No sense of irony," Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) observed.
  • "This is what @Twitter was doing to Republicans for years," the Twitter account for the House Republicans said.
  • "MSNBC host Ari Melber had a revealing moment on Monday that seemed almost a clinical (if not comical) example of transference," constitutional lawyer Jonathan Turley said.
  • "There is truly nothing funnier than this MSNBC host ranting about what Elon Musk could do to Twitter, and accidentally giving a perfect description of how Twitter has actually operated for the last five years," Cabot Phillips of the Daily Wire said.

For what it's worth, Musk has not announced any changes to Twitter. In fact, he has repeatedly affirmed his commitment to free speech and his desire to improve Twitter for everyone.
