Mother of accused cop killers arrested after reportedly attacking police officers in hospital

Authorities arrested the mother of two brothers arrested for the shooting death of a Chicago police officer after she reportedly attacked officers at a hospital where one of the brothers had been admitted.

Police arrested Emonte Morgan, 21, and brother Eric Morgan, 22, in the fatal shooting of Chicago Police Officer Ella French during a Saturday traffic stop.

What are the details?

According to the Police Tribune, the Morgans' mother, Evalena Flores, stormed Advocate Christ Medical Center and demanded to see her son, Emonte, who was wounded before being taken into custody for French's shooting death.

Emonte faces charge of first-degree murder of a peace officer, two counts of attempted first-degree murder of a peace officer, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. Eric, who was reportedly driving the vehicle, faces charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and obstruction of justice.

French and her unnamed partner were conducting a traffic stop on the suspects' vehicle for purportedly expired plates on Saturday night when at least one of the suspects in the vehicle began firing on the officers.

The bullets struck both French and her partner. French was killed, and her partner was injured and hospitalized.

Both French and her partner still had their guns in their holsters when they were fired upon.

Ahead of arriving at the hospital, Flores posted a since-deleted Facebook Live video in which she declared she would be a "voice" for her "boys."

"You not alone," she said, according to the outlet. "Know that s**t. For everybody else, I just wanna simply say there is another side, and my boys' side is not being told right now."

She also insisted that she and her sons are fearful of police and that her "heart drops" every time an officer pulls up behind her.

"We fear our police here, unfortunately," Flores said. "We don't believe in them. We don't trust them. ... We scared. That's just the reality of it, whether people wanna hear that or not, I don't give a damn. ... I need to be a voice for my boys."

When she arrived at the hospital, she began another since-deleted livestream filming herself running through the corridors of the hospital while demanding to see her son.

"Can you open the door?" she was said to have demanded. "I'm trying to see my son! Open the motherf***ing door!"

At that point, the outlet reports, Flores shoved her way past hospital staff and began shouting at officers outside her son's room.

"Don't touch me!" she reportedly shouted and purportedly began physically fighting with them. "Get away from me!"

The Chicago Tribune reported that Flores then kicked one of the officers in the groin.

Authorities arrested her on misdemeanor charges of criminal trespassing, resisting a police officer, and battery.

She is due in court on Sept. 15.

French had served the city on the force since April 2018.

In a statement on the killing, Chicago Police Department Superintendent David Brown said, "They come to work willing to run toward danger, toward gunfire. And they're willing to sacrifice their lives to save the lives of perfect strangers. ... They went to work today after last night's tragic, tragic events. Others are at work now, right now, continuing this brave, courageous work of protecting the people of Chicago."

Authorities arrest man after alleged violent attack on 2 Delaware police officers

Authorities arrested a Georgetown, Delaware, man after he reportedly assaulted two officers on Saturday night, the Delaware News Journal reports.

What are the details?

The attack took place at the Starboard Restaurant in Dewey Beach, authorities said, after the suspect, 27-year-old Brandon T. Lewis, reportedly became unruly.

According to the outlet, the Dewey Beach Police Department received a phone call reporting an "unconscious police officer" around 8:20 p.m. local time.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities discovered an officer motionless on the ground while a group fought next to him.

Witnesses said Lewis was "acting disorderly" at the restaurant and was forced out of the restaurant by staff.

Cliff Dempsey, a spokesman for the Dewey Beach Police Department, said that while being escorted out of the property, Lewis assaulted a staff member and fled on foot down Route 1's Coastal Highway.

A Dewey Beach officer saw Lewis fleeing from the restaurant and attempted to detain him as he reportedly actively resisted.

An off-duty police officer from the New Castle County Police Department reportedly witnessed the interaction between Lewis and the Dewey Beach police officer and intervened.

The outlet said that during the struggle, two bystanders pulled the off-duty officer from the altercation as Lewis reportedly struck the Dewey Beach police officer, knocking him unconscious. The off-duty officer was then able to reengage Lewis, and he and another bystander were able to retain him until responding units arrived.

Both officers were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The Dewey Beach officer, who remains unnamed at the time of this reporting, is in stable condition. The New Castle County police officer was treated for facial lacerations and released

According to First State Update, Rehoboth Beach Police, the Department of Natural Resources Police (Parks), Delaware State Police Troop 7, Delaware State Police Aviation Section, Bethany Beach Police, Lewes Police, South Bethany Police, Fenwick Island Police, Selbyville Police, and good Samaritans responded to assist.

Authorities arrested Lewis and charged him with two counts of second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest with force or violence, two counts of criminal mischief, and two counts of disorderly conduct.

He is being held at the Sussex County Correctional Institution on $35,000 bail.

VIDEO: Multiple men attack off-duty NYPD cop in broad daylight

Newly released video shows at least three men assaulting and beating an off-duty New York Police Department officer in broad daylight.

The attack happened around 11:40 a.m. Monday outside a deli in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx when a group of at least six men got into an argument with the unnamed 33-year-old cop, WABC-TV reported. The verbal altercation soon turned physical, the video shows.

According to the outlet, the NYPD officer was clobbered with a wooden object, which the station speculated might have been a baseball bat. The New York Post reported that the officer was hit with a broomstick.

What does the video show?

In the video, three men can be viewed surrounding the officer — who was not in uniform and seen wearing jean shorts and a T-shirt — who then shove the cop in the chest. The video then jumps to images of one of the men hitting him with a blue wooden stick, which the Post said, cops identified as a broomstick.

Police said their brother in blue was also hit with a baseball bat, the Post said, though that is not shown in the video.

The injured officer was taken to Jacobi Medical Center with pain in his head, back, and knees, the Post said, but was said to be conscious and alert and in stable condition.

WABC reported that police have said the incident was not random. According to the station, an NYPD official revealed that the off-duty cop apparently knows at least one of the suspects.

Police Commissioner Dermot Shea said the attack is "very much under investigation by the detective squad from the 41st precinct," according to WABC.

"I'm also having the Internal Affairs Bureau looking at the entire incident to make sure there was nothing that shouldn't be happening there with our officers," Shea added.

No arrests have been made. The NYPD Crime Stoppers have posted images of three of the suspects seen in the video.

Police officer responds alone to shots-fired call; mob swarms, attacks him — and then cackles that it was all caught on camera

An unruly mob attacked a Jacksonville, Florida, police officer who responded alone to a call of shots fired, according to WJAX-TV.

The mob swarmed the officer and hit him with their fists and kicked them with their feet as some cackled that the attack had been caught on camera.

What are the details?

The Jacksonville police officer responded to a call of shots fired in the Brooklyn area Thursday night.

The lone officer reportedly rushed to the scene because it was "a potential active shooter situation." He approached a crowd where he thought the shots were coming from.

In a statement on the incident, Steve Zona, president of the Fraternal Order of Police in Jacksonville, said, "Our police officer was actually responding to a report of gunshots, shots being fired. So equate that to a potential active shooter situation."

"When he got down there to try and get people to disperse, one of the people from the crowd actually attacked our police officer," he added.

Social media video captured the moment that a crowd surrounded the lone officer and pushed him to the ground, shouting expletives and attacking him.

In the video, the unnamed officer — who has a rifle strapped to his back — is able to climb to his feet as the person recording the now-viral video runs off laughing about the incident and how he caught the heartless attack on video.

The video does not show what took place immediately following the attack on the officer.

Zona also expressed his disappointment that no one stepped in to help the lone officer during the attack, but according to a new report from WTLV-TV, "a takedown and arrest of the suspected attacker followed."

"We have tremendous support here in the community and I don't think what happened to our police officer is a direct reflection of our community here in Jacksonville, I say it's a direct reflection of the people there," he added.

What else do we know about this?

The station on Tuesday reported that authorities arrested 23-year-old Jermisha Ramsey in connection with the attack and charged her with assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest, and street fighting.

WTLV that the officer suffered "multiple abrasions" in the attack.

Citing the arrest record, WTLV reported:

According to the arrest report, police initially responded to a call in the area of 600 block of Oak Street regarding multiple vehicles being burglarized around 2:10 a.m.Upon arrival, one of the complainants advised the JSO officer she'd heard gunshots down the road. JSO says the officer saw a gathering of people near Edison Avenue and an active fight. The officer requested backup and approached the fight with his police rifle slung on his back. The report says he saw about eight people fighting and arguing in the middle of the road and gave them loud, verbal commands to stop. The officer had to physically separate two individuals, one of whom was later identified as Ramsey. The officer attempted to detain Ramsey for failing to obey his verbal commands but was unsuccessful. The officer attack that was recorded and posted to social media is redacted entirely from the police report. However, the report goes on to say the officer picked up his glasses and gave chase, eventually catching Ramsey, throwing her on the ground and handcuffing her.

VIDEO: Late-night revelers jump on top of police car — with officer inside. Officials, residents are disgusted.

St. Louis officials and residents were left disgusted by videos showing a group of late-night revelers jumping on top of a police car — with an officer inside.

What are the details?

The early Sunday morning incident occurred on Washington Avenue as bars were closing downtown, KMOV-TV reported.

Here are a couple of clips. The first shows police bodycam video as the officer waits inside the patrol car, and the second clip shows the incident from the perspective of another driver:

What are the details?

911 logs indicated calls for shots fired, officers in need of aid, and disturbances on Washington Avenue between 15th and 18th Streets, the station said.

Videos showed numerous police cars responding to the calls, people dancing in the street — and people jumping atop a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department vehicle, KMOV reported.

Regarding the clip of people jumping on top of the police car, police told KMOV the incident started as officers were called to disperse a large party from an apartment building rooftop.

A citywide call for an officer in need of aid was issued as an officer was inside a patrol car while the mob danced, kicked, and stomped on top of it, the station said.

KMOV said police released the video and asked for information on any of the suspects.

Officials weigh in

St. Louis Mayor Tishaura Jones released the following statement Monday, according to the station:

Our office has reviewed the video of people jumping on our patrol cars this weekend. While I'm thankful SLMPD responded quickly and dispersed the crowd without conflict or injury, I'm disappointed in those people who will now have to face consequences for their behavior. Let me be clear: You can go out and have a good time without all this nonsense. If we are committed to building a stronger city, we need to show some courtesy and respect.

Alderman Jack Coatar told the station that "it's ridiculous and totally unacceptable behavior. That crowd damaged city property and put officers at risk."

Resident Arnold Stricker — who's part of Citizens for a Greater Downtown St. Louis — told KMOV he was "a little shocked and disappointed that that would be going on. We want a vibrant recovery from the pandemic for all the businesses and the residents in the city, and that wasn't a great way to kick that off."

More from the station:

Saturday night is not the first time there have been concerns on Washington Avenue. The city erected barricades up and down the street last summer to deal with cruising, speeding and dangerous activities. Some of those barricades in Downtown were removed ahead of this weekend due to large crowds expected with St. Louis Blues and Cardinals playing in town.

Leftist militants have stockpiled weapons, spike strips, armed guards at Portland autonomous zone

Leftist militants on their third day of occupying several residential blocks in Portland, Oregon, over a foreclosed house have stockpiled weapons, homemade spike strips, and armed guards at the entrances of their autonomous zone.

But the city's police chief said cops will use force if necessary to end the occupation.

What's the background?

The autonomous zone was set up Tuesday — the same day leftists militants were caught on video chasing Portland police away from the foreclosed house. In fact, they kicked and threw rocks at retreating police vehicles and ran up on cops and appeared to try to steal their equipment while taunting and threatening them as they literally chased officers down a street.

"We ain't f***in' around!" one militant was heard yelling at cops while another leftist declared, "I'll knock you the f*** out, bitch!"

And the leftists bullied, physically attacked, and forced a local TV reporter and videographer to leave the autonomous zone Tuesday soon after they entered in an attempt to interview occupiers:

What did the police have to say?

"I certainly am respectful of the issue that people are there to address, but blocking streets and chasing police officers out of the neighborhood is still not OK and really contrary to our values as Portlanders," Deputy Police Chief Chris Davis told the Oregonian Tuesday evening.

Davis added that police "have to be thoughtful about" the situation and go about it "in the right way" and "consider all the angles and do our best to resolve the situation as safely as possible," the paper reported.

But Police Chief Chuck Lovell struck a different tone in a video message, saying he's aware of the leftists' weapons and threats they're making — and that officers will use force to end the occupation if necessary:

I wanted to say a few words to each of you about activity along North Mississippi. https://t.co/Icq4mpzTAL
— Chief Chuck Lovell (@Chief Chuck Lovell)1607547869.0

Lovell added in another Twitter post that police also are aware of "armed sentries, attacks on journalists & threats to kill officers in graffiti in this public space."

And as you can see from the below Twitter video, the leftists have installed homemade spike strips in front of one barricaded entrance:

NYPD officer involved in a fender bender. It turns out the cruiser's brake line was cut.

Authorities say that the brake line of a New York Police Department cruiser was cut before the vehicle was involved in a traffic accident earlier in the month.

What are the details?

According to Fox News, the fender bender took place on Oct. 7 when two officers assigned to the department's Transit District struck a vehicle at a red light in Queens.

"The officers were driving near Queens Boulevard and Union Turnpike when the vehicle's brakes failed, and it hit another vehicle at slow speed," the outlet noted.

Following the accident, the vehicle was taken in for repair and inspection, and a mechanic discovered that the brake line on the front driver's side had intentionally been cut.

The New York Post reported that mechanics examined the cruiser at a Queens-area garage on Tuesday.

The New York Daily News reported that investigators are swabbing the vehicle for fingerprints and will review video taken near the Queens headquarters.

The Daily News shared a photo of the damage on Twitter and captioned the photo, "An NYPD car involved in a Queens fender bender apparently had its brake line cut by an unknown saboteur."

What else?

The Daily News reported that this wasn't the first time what appeared to be possible sabotage took place: On Sept. 21, two officers in East New York heard what the outlet described as a "pop" from their shared cruiser. The officers were able to pull the vehicle to a safe stop and discovered a cloth wrapped around an axle and brake fluid leaking from a hose.

In July, a male suspect was discovered cutting the brake line on an NYPD van in Prospect Park. The New York Post referred to the suspect as a "cop-hating protester." He was also charged for reportedly telling a paid informant that he wanted to blow up the Verrazzano Bridge.

Rioter throws Molotov cocktail at group of Portland police officers, striking one, as mob sets fire to justice center following Breonna Taylor indictment

A Portland, Oregon, rioter reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail at a group of police officers on Wednesday night as law enforcement declared the demonstrations in the area a riot.

Reports say that rioters also set fire to the city's justice center.

Demonstrations in the city continued following the announcement of a criminal indictment of one officer involved in the death of Louisville, Kentucky, resident Breonna Taylor. You can read more on the indictment here.

Following the announcement, riots erupted in cities across the country.

What are the details?

According to Newsweek, demonstrators gathered in Portland's streets following the indictment of former police officer Brett Hankison on three counts of wanton endangerment in the first degree.

The Portland Police Bureau announced that at least 74 people gathered on the Central Precinct side of the city's Justice Center, where they reportedly "began throwing softball-sized rocks towards Central Precinct, which shattered the glass windows above the entry doors."

The demonstrators converged on the precinct, and a riot broke out as protesters began to set fire to the building.

The bureau's statement added, "The group continued to throw rocks through the windows, which continued to shatter glass in the entryway of the Central Precinct, making it difficult for others to safely exit the precinct due to the glass falling and the glass that covered the entryway floor."

"Once the window was broken, group members used slingshots to launch projectiles at a high velocity through the broken glass windows of Central Precinct," the statement continued. "Some members of the group attempted to break into the front doors of the Central Precinct lobby."

While on the streets, police moved in on the unruly group, and at least one demonstrator threw a Molotov cocktail at a group of officers.

Authorities later attempted to clear the crowd by firing pepper balls and deploying pepper spray on the mob after declaring a riot.

The bureau added, "Officers began to disperse the crowd outside of Central Precinct again and a Molotov cocktail was thrown towards officers striking one in the foot. Portland Fire Medic was nearby and able to extinguish the flames. Had this incendiary not been stopped immediately, it could have caused serious physical injury to the officer. A second Molotov cocktail was thrown towards officers near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Main Street, and a third Molotov cocktail was thrown at officers near Southwest Broadway and Southwest Main Street. As the crowd was dispersed they aggressively threw rocks at officers and other projectiles."

Twitter user Pierce Singgih shared video of the incident on Twitter, writing, "[S]omeone just threw a Molotov at Portland Police as officers moved in and declared the event a riot."
