Teen uses fake gun while trying to rob man. The painful problem for kid? His victim has a real gun — and uses it.

A 16-year-old male used a fake gun while trying to rob a man on a Philadelphia street late Sunday night.

However, the victim had a real gun and fired it at the teen boy, wounding him and sending him to a hospital, WPVI-TV reported.

The victim remained on the scene and was cooperating with police.

The incident occurred just after 11 p.m. in the 2200 block of Emerald Street in the city's West Kensington neighborhood, the station said.

The teen pressed what he told the 21-year-old victim was a gun to his back and added that he was robbing him, police inspector D.F. Pace told WCAU-TV. The teen was with another would-be robber, the station said.

The 16-year-old told the victim to turn over his keys, his wallet, and any other valuables that he had on him, Pace added to WCAU.

"At that point, the victim began to produce the items that were demanded by the robber, but he was also in possession of a legal firearm," Pace explained to the station.

With that, the man turned and shot the boy once in the leg, Pace added to WCAU, adding that the other would-be thief escaped on foot.

The wounded teen was taken to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children where he was in stable condition, WPVI said.

The victim remained on the scene and was cooperating with police, WPVI added, while also noting that officers said a nearby Ring camera recorded video of the incident.

Pace also told WCAU that the victim — who was uninjured — took back his belongings he had handed over after the teen dropped them.

Responding officers also recovered a toy handgun that Pace said was used in the attempted robbery, WCAU reported.

"After the victim opened fire on the robbers, that gun was dropped, and it was recovered by police, and it is now in police custody, and we now know it to be a fake gun," Pace also told WCAU. "But again, having been pressed into the victim's back, there would have been no way for the victim to have known that."

Police also said they took the teen into custody, WCAU reported.

According to WTXF-TV, the victim was with his girlfriend at the time of the incident.

Armed crook demands wallet, cell phone from man. But it turns out victim has a gun, too — and it doesn't end well for bad guy.

A male with a gun approached another man on a Henderson, Nevada, street over the weekend and demanded his wallet and cell phone, the City of Henderson reported. But the victim also had a gun and shot the assailant dead, officials said.

Henderson Police and Fire Departments responded to the 1000 block of Wellness Place for a reported shooting just before 4 a.m. Saturday, officials said.

The 33-year-old man who fired his gun stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, officials said.

Multiple 911 calls indicated gunshots were heard, and a male was seen lying on the ground, officials said.

Detectives preliminarily determined that an unknown male carrying a gun approached in a confrontational manner a 33-year-old man and demanded his cell phone and wallet, officials said.

One never knows who's carrying these days — and it turns out the victim in this case also had a gun. He was quicker on the draw, too, apparently.

Officials said the 33-year-old man who was fearing for his life fired multiple rounds from his gun and struck the unknown male.

Officers and paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, officials said, but the unknown male died at the scene. No one else was hurt, officials added.

The 33-year-old man who fired his gun stayed at the scene and was cooperative with the investigation, officials said.

Detectives were investigating the case as a homicide, officials said, adding that the Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the male who died — as well as the cause and manner of his death — after next of kin notifications.

Those with information about this case are urged to call the Henderson Police Department at 702-267-4911, 3-1-1, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555 or visit the Crime Stoppers website, officials said. Tips directly leading to a felony arrest or an indictment processed through Crime Stoppers may result in a cash reward, officials added.

How are people reacting?

Comments under the Henderson Police Department's Facebook post about the incident seemed decidedly behind the male who pulled the trigger:

  • "People should realize Nevada is both an open carry and concealed carry state just like Texas and Montana," one commenter said. "You never know who might be packing that 2nd Amendment."
  • "Good guy with a gun 1, bad guy with a gun 0," another commenter wrote.
  • "Sounds like a good shoot," another commenter said.
  • "One less booking," another commenter declared.

Armed crooks demand property from 53-year-old woman sitting in car. But she has a gun too — and opens fire.

Armed individuals walked up to a 53-year-old woman sitting in her car overnight Tuesday in a Walmart parking lot in Auburn, Washington, and demanded her property, KCPQ-TV reported. Auburn is about a half hour south of Seattle.

Thing is, the woman also was armed, and the station said she shot at the suspects.

'Always carry. The law states if a gun is pulled on you, you can use the same force — and remember shoot once, and shoot to kill.'

The suspects shot back, KCPQ said, and the woman was wounded.

Police arrived at the scene around 3:30 a.m. and treated the victim's single gunshot wound at the scene, the station said, adding that she's expected to be okay.

KCPQ said police employed a K-9 to track the suspects, after which they were found and taken into custody. Police noted in a news release that the suspects, both males, are 19 and 21 years of age.

The station said additional information is "limited at this time," and police didn't offer further information about the suspects in its news release.

How are people reacting?

A number of folks commented under KCPQ's story about the incident posted on Facebook. Here's what some of them had to say:

  • "This is exactly why I carry ALL the time now," one commenter said. "Auburn has become dangerous."
  • "I hate that you can't go anywhere without having fear," another user wrote.
  • "While she was still shot, she at least had the chance to defend herself," another commenter observed.
  • "Very little good happens at 0330, especially in a Wallyworld parking lot," another user quipped.
  • "Always carry," another commenter declared. "The law states if a gun is pulled on you, you can use the same force — and remember shoot once, and shoot to kill."
  • "Auburn is pretty rough these days!" another user exclaimed.

Oops! Gun-toting crook orders concealed carrier to give up his property, Chicago cops say. It's a giant fail for the bad guy.

An armed crook likely experienced a considerable "oops!" moment when he pulled up on a concealed carrier after midnight Tuesday on a Chicago street and ordered the fellow to give up his property.

As you might expect, things didn't seem to go as planned for the bad guy.

What are the details?

A 23-year-old man was walking in the 5400 block of North Winthrop Avenue in the Edgewater neighborhood on the city's far north side just after 4:20 a.m. when a white sedan and dark-colored SUV approached him, police told WLS-TV.

Cops added to the station that a male suspect exited one of the vehicles, pulled out a gun, and demanded the man give up his belongings.

Nothing doing, son.

Turns out the victim has a Firearm Owners Identification card and a concealed-carry license — and he also pulled out a gun, after which a shootout commenced, police told WLS.

But things must have gotten too hot for the crook.

Police told the station the suspect retreated empty-handed into the SUV, after which both vehicles skedaddled south.

The concealed carrier wasn't hurt, WLS said, adding that it wasn't immediately clear whether the suspect was hit by gunfire.

No one was in custody later Tuesday morning, the station said, adding that Area Three detectives are investigating.

Related incident?

WLS said two other men were robbed at gunpoint during similar incidents within about a half-hour in Edgewater and West Ridge.

Police told the station the first robbery took place around 3:40 a.m. when two armed males approached a 45-year-old man who was inside a vehicle in the 2100 block of West Lunt Avenue and demanded his belongings. The victim complied, police told WLS, adding that the robbers then got into a silver SUV and sped away.

About half an hour later, two gunmen exited separate vehicles in the 6100 block of North Wolcott Avenue and robbed a 29-year-old man who was sitting in his vehicle, police noted to the station.

WLS said police are investigating the possibility the three incidents are linked.

Video: Armed thugs who rush into jewelry store have fast change of heart when worker with gun sends them some smoke

A pair of armed, masked men caught on surveillance video rushing into a jewelry store in Oakland, California, on Monday morning quickly changed their minds when a store worker pulled out his own gun and began firing.

— (@)

What are the details?

The failed caper took place at MSM Jewelry near 41st Avenue and International Boulevard in the city's Fruitvale neighborhood around 10 a.m., KTVU-TV reported.

The worker, who didn't want to be identified, told the station he saw a Toyota Camry pull up on the wrong side of the street outside his shop: "I saw two guys creeping up really quick, so I was like, 'It's a robbery.'"

KTVU said the two men came inside the store with guns drawn — but the worker told the station he fired first, using his 9mm handgun.

"They told me, 'Don't move, or we'll shoot.' So I started shooting at them because they had the guns pointed at me," the worker recalled to the station. "They were shooting back. It was going back and forth for like 20 seconds."

The worker told KTVU the would-be robbers fired about 20 shots at him. One of them used a .40-caliber handgun with a drum magazine, while the other used a 9mm with an extended magazine — both of which are illegal, the station said.

"And then I ducked ... and then I waited to see him like scrambling. The other guy was still shooting. And then I popped my head out and shot about seven more," the worker added to KTVU.

One of the crooks left a shoe behind in his haste to escape the worker's gunfire — but the worker told the station he may have shot that robber in the shoulder.

What's more, KTVU said that same crook got hit by the driver of his getaway car.

'I have more'

Police took a report, and officers did not cite or arrest the worker, the station reported.

"They said, ‘You did the right thing.’ They said, ‘You followed — you did everything right,'" the worker recounted to KTVU, adding that police took his guns until the completion of their investigation.

The worker then gave the station a priceless add-on regarding the guns at his disposal: "I have more."

In addition, he gave the robbers a message through KTVU: "If you come back again, try to do the same thing, we're just going to defend ourselves. At this point, you have to."

3 males carjack woman in Dollar Tree parking lot on Christmas Eve, return to store hours later in armed robbery attempt: Cops

Memphis police said three males carjacked a woman in a Dollar Tree parking lot on Christmas Eve — and then returned to the scene of the crime just hours later and tried robbing two people inside the same Dollar Tree store.

Police said the trio are still wanted, WREG-TV reported.

What are the details?

Memphis police said officers responded at 12:45 p.m. to a carjacking at a Dollar Tree in the 1200 block of Getwell Road.

Officers were told the victim parked her car when three unknown armed males approached her and demanded the keys to her black Audi A3. Police said the suspects took the victim’s vehicle and fled westbound on Rhodes — and the driver of a gold Mercedes, which also was taken in a carjacking, followed the Audi.

But it was Christmas Eve, after all — and the trio apparently was after a heftier gift tally.

Police said the same suspects came back to the same Dollar Tree at 5:36 p.m. on the same day and tried to rob at gunpoint two victims inside the store. Police posted surveillance video from inside the Dollar Tree showing the armed robbery attempt.

Police said the males fled the store in an unknown direction, and no arrests have been made.

Police added that those with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 901-528-CASH to leave anonymous information or submit a tip at http://www.crimestopmem.org. Police added that tipsters may be eligible for cash rewards if arrests are made.

Carjacking kids try to rob customers, police say youtu.be

How are folks reacting?

Nearly 800 commenters and counting have weighed in on WREG's story on the crime spree published Thursday by Yahoo News. Here's what a few of them had to say:

  • "These ‘kids’ live in a different society where the rules and values of our society do not apply," one commenter said. "And by ‘our society’ I mean working, building, trying-to-do-our-best type. Physically we share the same time and space, but we cannot be further apart. This will not end well for our country."
  • "I'm senior and carry," another commenter said. "I never thought about carrying 25 years ago."
  • "They are someone's children, and they are out of control," another commenter observed. "I'm sure they know what they are doing; they don't know what the results and jail time will be. This is a new generation of young people, and the way they think, they don't value themselves or anyone, they don't believe in a future or been taught to plan and make goals in life and try to be a better person than the generation before them."

'Then shoot me': Gutsy woman stands up to gun-toting thug who threatened to open fire if she didn't hand over store's cash

Marie Paradis — manager of a gas station convenience store connected to Stone's Auto Repair in St. Albans, Vermont — had been on edge after a number of robberies in the area in a short period of time.

Paradis shared with WPTZ-TV that her instincts told her to prepare for trouble Wednesday morning.

“I went and heated some coffee, and I double-heated it to almost boiling," she recounted to the station. "Because I just had this feeling that if they tried something, I’m going to throw the coffee.”

Sure enough, Paradis saw a man dressed in all black and wearing a face mask approach the store, WPTZ noted.

"I knew something was wrong, and I was ready for him," she added to the station.

Paradis told WPTZ she had already pressed the panic button when the man walked to the front counter — and he was carrying a gun, as surveillance video shows:

'Open up the till'

"He said, 'Open up the till,' and I said no," she recalled to the station.

Paradis recounted the crook's persistence to WPTZ — though she redacted his profanity: "I said open up the effin' till and give me all the money."

She replied to the armed robber that the till's contents were staying put, the station said: "You're not getting any money from me."

With that, the crook threatened to open fire.

'Then shoot me'

"I am going to shoot you if you do not give me that money," the man threatened, according to her recollection to WPTZ.

Paraidis added to the station that she replied, "Then shoot me, because you're not getting the money."

Video shows Paradis chucking her coffee toward the armed man's head:

Then she pepper-sprayed him, forcing him to cover up and retreat:

He ended up taking off with some cigarettes and e-cigarettes — and no cash, the station said.

"I was thinking, 'I'm here to serve the people, and I'm here to protect this store," Paradis told WPTZ. "And that's what I'm gonna do, and I would do it again."

Paradis added to the station that she was too angry to feel fear in that moment: "These are hardworking people that I work for, and I’m sick and tired of the robberies. Eight robberies in the last two weeks on our community. I’ve had it."

The store owners told WPTZ they're grateful Paradis is OK — but they're frustrated that their employees must concern themselves with safety at work.

"Our employees have to come to work every day and worry about whether they’re gonna be broken into or not," Kim Stone told the station. "That shouldn’t be their first concern."

WPTZ said despite some businesses having been hit twice by the rash of recent, very public robberies, police have yet to nab the culprits.

"We're small-business owners, and you work hard for your money," Stone added to the station. "And for someone to just come and just try to steal it, it just makes you angry."

WPTZ said it contacted the St. Albans Police Department for comment but was told no one was available to speak with the news station.

Video: Texas store owner has big surprise for two armed, hooded thugs who walk through his door

Surveillance videos caught the scary moments when a pair of armed, hooded males entered a Mesquite, Texas, store last Thursday.

Thing is, though, the owner of the Cash4Gold store on Town East Boulevard was ready for them, and he pulled out a gun of his own and quickly opened fire, KDFW-TV reported.

"It’s a quick three seconds," said Tien, the store owner, who gave the station only his first name for safety reasons. "No time to think. It’s all reaction."

What happened?

Video shows Tien in the back of the store when the two males walk through the store's entrance — and one of them pulls out a gun, KDFW said.

But so does Tien:

"Everything was slow motion to me," Tien told the station. "I saw the mask, I saw the hoodie, I saw the gun come out."

KDFW reported that Tien shot first, and the two males fired back three times.

The station said no one was hurt, but bullets hit a glass counter, walls, and Tien's golf bag.

"Luckily, it wasn't me," he added to KDFW.

Not the first time

The station said last week's shootout wasn't the first time Tien was forced to defend his store.

In fact, he told KDFW that it was the third time he's experienced a robbery attempt in the last five years — but in each instance, he scared off the intruders. Police captured the offenders in the last two robbery attempts, the station said.

July 2019 surveillance video shows two armed males entering Tien's store — but he fired warning shots, after which the suspects ran off, KDFW reported.

"I think the cash business, the gold business, seems to be an easy target for them, or so they think, but it’s not," Tien told the station.

Mesquite Police Lieut. Brandon Ricketts noted to KDFW that "our hope is that someone sees these videos, sees these images and recognizes [the suspects], especially the suspect that doesn’t have his face covered."

Police added to the station that the two armed males from Thursday's incident are looking at aggravated robbery charges if they're caught.

Despite all his troubles, Tien noted to KDFW that's not going anywhere.

Masked crook points gun at Chicago business owner, who's in 'complete shock.' But when perp has trouble with pistol, victim seizes moment to fight back.

James Suh, owner of Car Care Auto Spa in Chicago's Portage Park neighborhood, was on a conference call for his daughter’s school around closing time earlier this month when a masked man walked into his store, pointed a gun at him, and demanded money from the register, WMAQ-TV reported.

“It was just so sudden and alarming, no preparations,” Suh told the station regarding the Oct. 10 incident. “I didn’t even see him walking in; all of a sudden he’s just there in front of me.” He added to WMAQ that "my mind was in complete shock."

Suh told the robber he couldn’t open the register, the station said.

What happened next?

The crook is seen on surveillance video having issues with his gun — and WMAQ said that was the moment the married father of two saw his chance to fight back.

Suh, in a sudden flash, went for the perp's gun.

“Your mind is just firing on all cylinders in such a short time, and I think I was mostly acting out of emotion and frustration, which is not a good place to make important decisions from,” he admitted to the station.

A second surveillance video shows Suh and the armed intruder struggling for the gun.

Fortunately, Suh successfully disarmed the suspect, who ran out of the store with no cash and no weapon, WMAQ said. Suh is seen on video walking back behind the register with the crook's gun in hand.

“This guy, he was clearly not a professional, he didn’t know what he was doing,” Suh told the station. “I don’t know what his circumstances are — you know, maybe he felt he was desperate, and he had no choice to go out and do this.”

Despite his victory over crime, Suh told WMAQ he'd handle it differently if he had to do it over again: "I think I would probably just comply and give him the money because it’s not worth it.”

Anything else?

The suspect fled northbound on Cicero Avenue and hadn't been located when the station's story ran, WMAQ said.

Suh noted to the station that Chicago police told him the gun wasn't loaded. WMAQ added that detectives are investigating the incident.

Female Family Dollar clerk fights man who pushes through plexiglass barrier, stabs at her, tries to grab cash from register

A female clerk at a North Carolina Family Dollar fought off a customer who pushed through a plexiglass barrier, stabbed at her, and tried to grab money from the cash register — and the scary encounter was caught on surveillance video.

What are the details?

A customer at the Sharpsburg store paid for a cigarette lighter with cash about 12:09 p.m. Thursday, the Rocky Mount Telegram reported. Sharpsburg is about an hour east of Raleigh.

When the clerk opened the cash register, surveillance video shows the man push through a plexiglass barrier and and stab at the clerk, WRAL-TV reported. The Telegram said he was holding a knife.

The clerk quickly responds by beating back the man with her hands, the station said, adding that police said the man was trying to steal cash from the register.

Video shows the man running out of the store after the struggle; the clerk appears to throw something at the man as takes off.

The clerk called 911 and said the suspect was headed north on U.S. 301 toward Rocky Mount, the Telegram said. Rocky Mount is about 10 minutes north of Sharpsburg.

The clerk suffered a cut on her hand during the struggle, the Telegram said. Video shows the clerk holding her left hand and signaling for help, WRAL said.

What happened to the suspect?

Sharpsburg police quickly caught the suspect, the Telegram said. WRAL said he was arrested Thursday.

Mohammud Alsaleh, 34, was charged with attempted armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious bodily injury, the Telegram said, adding that he was jailed under a $250,000 bond in the Nash County Detention Center.
