Coast Guard stops US-bound boats carrying over 300 attempted illegal aliens

The United States Coast Guard recently intercepted multiple U.S.-bound vessels carrying more than 300 attempted illegal aliens, according to a Monday press release.

The Coast Guard reported that it transferred 109 individuals back to the Bahamas and 196 individuals back to Haiti on Sunday and Monday after the groups attempted to enter the U.S. illegally.

'Don't take to the sea and risk your life just to be sent back.'

The interception, executed as part of Operation Vigilant Sentry, occurred last week after multiple boats were discovered off the U.S. coast.

The USCG reported that the groups were processed to determine their identity, provided with food, water, shelter, and medical attention, and then returned to the countries from which they had departed.

"The crews of Coast Guard Cutter Raymond Evans and Cutter Richard Etheridge transferred 109 people to the Royal Bahamas Defence Force, Sunday, following an interdiction near Anguilla Cay, Bahamas. U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations (CBP-AMO) aircrews notified Coast Guard Sector Key West watchstanders of a migrant venture near Anguilla Cay and crews diverted to interdict them," the Coast Guard's press release read.

"The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Thetis repatriated 196 people to Haiti, Monday, following two migrant voyage interdictions on June 5 and June 6. A CBP-AMO aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders, Wednesday, of a migrant venture north of Cap-Haitien, Haiti. Another CBP-AMO aircrew notified Coast Guard District Seven watchstanders, Thursday, of a migrant venture north of Île de la Tortue, Haiti. Crews diverted to interdict both vessels," the press release continued.

Lt. Nick Fujimoto, Coast Guard District Seven enforcement officer, stated that recent migration attempts were "unlawful and extremely dangerous."

"The OVS maritime border security mission is often equal parts law enforcement and humanitarian response, especially as we enter hurricane season and marine weather becomes more severe and unpredictable," Fujimoto added. "The Coast Guard urges any potential migrants considering the journey: Don't take to the sea and risk your life just to be sent back."

Fujimoto encouraged individuals to "use the safe, orderly and lawful pathways available."

Earlier this year, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) dispatched additional state personnel to address a possible increase in illegal maritime migration attempts.

"For quite some time, the State of Florida has been dedicating significant resources to combat illegal vessels coming to Florida from countries such as Haiti," DeSantis announced in March. "No state has done more to supplement the (under-resourced) U.S. Coast Guard's interdiction efforts; we cannot have illegal aliens coming to Florida."

Canadian great-grandmother, 80, suffering from Alzheimer's reportedly raped at Bahamas resort: 'Unimaginable nightmare'

An 80-year-old Canadian woman suffering from Alzheimer's disease was raped at a resort in the Bahamas last month by a fellow tourist from Canada, according to her family.

The woman – who was not named – was on a vacation with her daughter at the Warwick Hotel Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas.

The woman's son, David Ahrens, wrote in a LinkedIn post: "Rape is never ok. I'm going to share some very difficult news with you. On January 28th, at the Warwick Hotel in Nassau, Bahamas, my 80-year-old mother, who is a grandmother and great-grandmother, and who has Alzheimer's, was sexually assaulted and raped by a guest at the hotel."

While at the resort, a man allegedly invited himself to dinner with the vacationing family and their friends. Ahrens said his sister got separated from her mother while taking an elevator – leaving the elderly woman alone with the dinner guest.

Aherns said his sister and others searched floor by floor for the mother for about 45 minutes.

Joining the search for the 80-year-old woman was Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Tom Justice, who was in the Bahamas on an assignment.

Ahrens told WSOC-TV, "The doors open up and there is my mother with this assailant," adding that Justice "pinned the guy in the elevator."

"Down the elevator they went to the lobby," Ahrens continued. "He pulled him out, the police took over."

Ahrens told CTV News, "Of course my mother was frightened, and while we don't need to go into a ton of detail, but what I will say, and it is horrendous, that she was holding her own underwear in her hand at that point in the elevator."

The son wrote, "He assaulted her in his room. This is a vile, unthinkable, and an unimaginable nightmare."

Ahrens said security video shows his mother resisting the man as he forced her into a hotel room.

Ahrens' mother was reportedly taken to a local hospital, where she tested positive after a rape kit was administered.

The son claimed that a 61-year-old Canadian man from Nova Scotia was arrested.

"He was denied bail and could face life in prison if convicted," according to the New York Post.

Ahrens said he flew down to the tropical island immediately after finding out about the rape allegations and noted that the police in the Bahamas have assisted the family greatly during the investigation.

Global Affairs Canada – Canada's diplomatic and consular relations agency – confirmed to CTV News that a Canadian was arrested in the Bahamas.

"Our concern is the combination of Alzheimer's plus this incident of being sexually assaulted and rape, you know, that's playing with her mind. So we're just worried it's playing in her subconscious and it's just making things worse at the moment," Ahrens said.

The rape accusations arrive at nearly the same time that two American mothers claimed they were drugged and raped at a resort in the Bahamas.

As Blaze News previously reported, two women from Kentucky say their tropical cocktails were spiked with drugs and then they were raped by staff members at a Bahamas resort.

An American nurse who treated the two women said, "Out of my 20-odd years of practicing, it was the worst scene that I had ever had to work. It was a horrible situation for both girls."

Two men were arrested in connection with the alleged sexual assault.

Nurse who treated Kentucky moms allegedly drugged, raped in Bahamas says it was 'the worst scene,' resort questions claims

Two moms from Kentucky alleged that they were drugged and raped by employees of a resort in the Bahamas. The resort said surveillance videos conflict with the serious allegations. However, a nurse who treated the two women at the alleged crime scene noted that there's "no chance that anything was made up."

As Blaze News previously reported, longtime friends Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson went on a Carnival Cruise Line vacation earlier this month. The Kentucky mothers ventured to a beach resort in the Grand Bahamas.

The pair said they each ordered a tropical drink from a resort staffer.

"Less than a few [sips] into the second drink, we knew something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong," Shearer told NewsNation.

The women alleged that a resort employee led them to an area with shells.

Shearer said the next thing she could recall was waking up while she was being sexually assaulted by a uniformed male resort worker.

"I came to in the process of my rape," Shearer claimed.

The woman reported their alleged sexual assaults to the resort and local police.

The women underwent rape tests once they returned to the Carnival Elation cruise ship. A breathalyzer test showed the Kentucky moms had little or no alcohol in their systems. However, toxicology tests revealed that they had benzodiazepines, among other drugs, in their bodies.

On the same day as the alleged sex crimes, the Royal Bahamas Police arrested two men in connection with the sexual assaults of the American women. The men were ages 40 and 54.

The Pirates Cove resort fired the two employees because the company has a "zero-tolerance policy" for workers fraternizing with guests in an "unsafe" matter.

“We take great pride in ensuring our guests have a safe and enjoyable experience when visiting Pirates Cove,” the resort said in a statement. "In addition to having safety personnel and CCTV surveillance throughout the resort, employees and vendors of Pirates Cove must follow strict guidelines when interacting with guests. We have a zero-tolerance policy for fraternizing with guests or behaving in a manner that is unsafe."

"While there is an active police investigation into these serious allegations, we have terminated the employment of the two accused, as the behavior seen on tape by management indicates that at a minimum they violated our zero-tolerance policy," the Pirates Cove resort said of the ex-employees.

The resort also said that surveillance camera footage "conflicts" with the allegations made by the women.

“Local authorities and paramedics were called to the scene and Pirates Cove management assisted in identifying and locating the two alleged suspects," the statement read. "In addition, after the police concluded their initial investigation, we assisted transporting the women back to their cruise ship after guests refused transportation to the hospital."

“Upon further review of the surveillance videos, the allegations made onsite and in subsequent social media posts and news stories conflict with what the time-stamped surveillance videos contain," the resort management contended. "As such, the lengthy videos of all concerned have been handed over to the local police and will be shared with our industry partners as needed."

The resort in Freeport urged "all concerned parties to make sure all facts are considered before reaching a conclusion."

Pirates Cove said it has 16 security cameras installed around its property.

However, a nurse who treated the alleged sexual assault victims asserted that the women were attacked.

Ladonna Batty, a family nurse practitioner from Arkansas who was traveling on the same cruise, tended to the incoherent women at the resort.

"I got my phone out and immediately started charting everything, documenting everything I'd seen," Batty informed WLEX-TV.

Batty told NewsNation, "You can’t make up puking everywhere and trembling and being scared to death. That’s not something you just make up. It was bad. I’m traumatized from it, and I deal with things like this."

"Out of my 20-odd years of practicing, it was the worst scene that I had ever had to work," Batty explained. "It was a horrible situation for both girls."

Batty declared, "There’s no chance that anything was made up."

The two moms contend that Carnival Cruise Line should have informed them that the U.S. State Department had increased its travel advisory level for the Bahamas last month, which advised travelers to "exercise increased caution in The Bahamas due to crime."

Carnival Cruise Lines said of the incident, "Our onboard Care Team provided support for the two guests as they sailed back to Jacksonville. Bahamian police are investigating the matter and Carnival is providing our full cooperation."

Kentucky moms demand justice after they were allegedly drugged, raped by staff at Bahamas resort during cruise

Two moms from Kentucky are warning others about their harrowing experience at a resort in the Bahamas during a Carnival cruise.

Longtime friends Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson went on a kid-free vacation earlier this month. During their Carnival cruise, the duo went to a beach in the Grand Bahamas on Sunday.

The Kentucky moms said they were relaxing on a beach in Freeport when a resort staffer offered them a two-for-one drink deal. Around noon, the pair ordered one pineapple and one coconut drink and took a photo with the tropical libations.

However, the women said that the drinks were far stronger than they expected.

"Less than a few [sips] into the second drink, we knew something was wrong. Something was terribly wrong," Shearer told NewsNation.

The women said that they had only had one drink at the resort that day.

Dobson said loved ones back home noticed that they appeared to be highly intoxicated just 15 minutes after their first sips and questioned whether they had only one alcoholic beverage.

The women said they were looking for shells on the beach when a male resort staffer pointed them to an area with plenty of shells.

But the next thing Shearer could recall was waking up while she was being assaulted by a uniformed male resort worker.

"I came to in the process of my rape," a teary-eyed Shearer said.

The women claimed that the local authorities didn't administer proper sexual assault test kits

Once back on the Carnival cruise ship, the women had rape tests administered. They also had a breathalyzer test, which showed them to have little or no alcohol in their systems. However, toxicology tests showed that they had benzodiazepines, among other drugs, in their bodies.

Police identified two male suspects in the alleged sexual attack through surveillance footage. Both were employees at the resort, and one of the men reportedly had only worked there for about a week.

On Sunday night, Royal Bahamas Police arrested two men – a 40-year-old of South Bahamia and a 54-year-old of Eight Mile Rock – in connection to the alleged sex crimes, the department said in a press release.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

WLEX-TV reported, "The pair is now receiving medical care at home, which includes thousands of dollars of preventative care, including HIV prevention medication which costs nearly $4,000."

The women are demanding justice for the alleged sexual assault.

"We want justice for what happened to us. We want to raise awareness for others," Shearer wrote in a Facebook post.

The women are upset with Carnival Cruise Line for not making them aware that the U.S. State Department had recently increased its travel advisory level for the Bahamas and advised travelers to "exercise increased caution in The Bahamas due to crime."

“The majority of crime occurs on New Providence (Nassau) and Grand Bahama (Freeport) islands,” the State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs stated in the "level 2" travel advisory posted on Jan. 26. “In Nassau, practice increased vigilance in the ‘Over the Hill’ area (south of Shirley Street) where gang-on-gang violence has resulted in a high homicide rate primarily affecting the local population.”

"Violent crime such as burglaries, armed robberies, and sexual assaults occur, but generally not in tourist areas," the advisory noted.

Shearer said, "You need to be aware because our cruise line did not make us aware of a travel advisory. We had no idea what was going on in the Bahamas."

The women said they didn't know about the travel advisory until "four hours after we were raped."

The mothers are warning other women of the potential dangers of traveling.

"Be safe. Two is not a group. Do not buy any drinks that come unless they come in a sealed container, in a bottle," Dobson said.

How a robbery at a Bahamas bar exposed an alleged murder-for-hire plot on a former Auburn football player by ex-beauty queen and her secret lover

A Georgia ex-beauty queen has been arrested for allegedly plotting a murder-for-hire on her estranged husband along with her secret lover. The hitman plot to kill the former Auburn football player was only exposed after authorities discovered damning evidence while investigating a completely different crime committed at a beach bar in the Bahamas.

Lindsay Shiver, 36, conspired with her alleged secret lover, 28-year-old Terrance Bethel, to kill her estranged husband, Robert Shiver, according to Bahamas Court News. The former beauty pageant queen and mother-of-three reportedly devised a murder-for-hire plot with Bethel and 29-year-old Faron Newbold.

Bahamian police stumbled upon the murder plot while investigating a completely separate case. Earlier this month, local police were investigating a burglary at Grabber’s Bar and Grill in Great Guana Cay in the Bahamas.

Police reportedly discovered WhatsApp messages "detailing the plan" for the murder-for-hire plot on a cell phone belonging to a suspect in the beach bar break-in. Authorities did not reveal who owned the phone with the messages about the purported murder plan.

The Thomasville Times-Enterprise reported, "A source familiar with the investigation said the Shivers have a home in the Bahamas, where Lindsay first began an affair with Bethel. Upon Robert finding out about the affair, he filed for divorce."

Following the divorce filing, Lindsay, Bethel, and Newbold Jr. allegedly devised a plan to kill Robert Shiver during a meeting in Abaco, Bahamas.

"On July 16, 2023 at Abaco, while being together, did with a common purpose agree to commit an offense, namely the murder of Richard Shiver," the police report stated.

The trio were arrested in Abaco and transported to a jail in the country's capital of Nassau.

They are scheduled to return to court on Oct. 5.

Lindsay and Robert have three sons together.

Lindsay Shiver was previously a cheerleader at Auburn University – where she met Robert at a fitness class.

In 2005, Lindsay Shiver was crowned Miss Houston County and finished as the 2nd runner-up in the National Peanut Festival pageant, according to WTVY.

Robert Shiver was a snapper for the Auburn Tigers between 2006 and 2008. In 2009, Shiver signed with Atlanta Falcons as a free agent but was cut before the start of the NFL season.

Biden's DOJ drops campaign finance charge against Democratic megadonor Sam Bankman-Fried

The Department of Justice has dropped its campaign finance violation charge against disgraced FTX founder and Biden donor Sam Bankman-Fried.

What's the background?

Following the November 2022 collapse of his former cryptocurrency exchange FTX, Democratic megadonor Bankman-Fried was hit with eight charges of fraud and conspiracy, including a campaign finance charge.

U.S. Attorney Damian Williams of the Southern District of New York wrote in a December 2022 letter to District Judge Ronnie Abrams, "The Government expects the evidence will show that the defendant violated campaign finance laws by causing political contributions to candidates and committees ... to be made in the names of co-conspirators, when in fact those contributions ere funded by Alameda Research with misappropriated customer funds."

Williams indicated this alleged scheme enabled the Democratic megadonor to evade "contribution dollar limits, corporate donation limits, and donation reporting requirements."

TheBlaze previously detailed how an indictment, unsealed in February in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, suggested that Bankman-Fried and "co-conspirators made over 300 political contributions, totaling tens of millions of dollars, that were unlawful because they were made in the name of a straw donor or paid for with corporate funds" (i.e., unsuspecting clients' money).

The indictment further accused the Democratic megadonor of seeking to acquire influence by way of these allegedly "unlawful political contributions" as well as to "improve his personal standing in Washington, D.C., increase FTX's profile, and curry favor with candidates that could help pass legislation favorable to FTX or BANKMAN-FRIED's personal agenda."

These efforts appears to have been extra to his ostensibly above-board donations.

Bankman-Fried reportedly donated $10 million to then-candidate Joe Biden in 2020.

The crypto hustler reportedly also hired a network of "political operatives" and spent at least $39,826,856 in an effort to help Democrats win their House races in the November 2022 midterm elections.

Among his beneficiaries were Democratic Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Cory Booker (D-N.J), and Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y) and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.).

Bankman-Fried told Jacob Goldstein of "What's Your Problem?" that he planned to possibly donate "north of $100 million" and up to $1 billion to Democrats in the 2024 presidential elections.

Bankman was extradited from the Bahamas back to the United States on December 21, 2022.

Biden DOJ drops charges

Forbes reported that the Biden DOJ will not pursue a campaign finance charge against Bankman-Fried as a means of placating the Bahamas, which has claimed this charge was not part of its initial extradition agreement with America.

In a Wednesday letter to U.S. District Judge Lewis A. Kaplan, U.S. Attorney Williams indicated that Bankman-Fried had moved to dismiss the conspiracy to make unlawful campaign contributions count on "rule of specialty grounds," but that this had been rejected.

While this motion had been rejected, Williams noted the DOJ subsequently "informed the Court that the United States had sought clarification from The Bahamas regarding whether this count was included in the defendant's extradition."

The Bahamas purportedly came back suggesting it had not intended to extradite the disgraced Democratic megadonor "on the campaign contributions count."

Williams wrote, "In keeping with its treaty obligations to The Bahamas, the Government does not intend to proceed to trial on the campaign contributions count."

Prosecutors removed five other charges against Bankman-Fried last month, punting them to 2024 after a Bahamas court ruling suggested the DOJ may have fouled up the procedure for charging the former billionaire, reported CNBC.

According to the New York Times, Bankman-Fried is now left only facing seven charges at his trial in October, although he will likely face the five punted charges at a subsequent trial.

John P. Fishwick Jr., a former U.S. attorney for the Western District of Virginia, told the Times prosecutors still had "overwhelming evidence against Sam Bankman-Fried" and that he still could face dozens of years behind bars.

Reuters reported that Judge Kaplan tightened Bankman-Fried's bail conditions Wednesday, hitting him with a gag order after he had shared his former lover Caroline Ellison's personal writings with the press, which prosecutors said amounted to more witness tampering.

Carnival cruise ship hammered by party-crashing winds and gargantuan waves

A cruise liner completing its journey from the Bahamas to Charleston, South Carolina, was battered in its final stretch Friday by a powerful storm, which left glass shattered, hallways flooded, and some passengers praying for relief.

The gargantuan waves and strong winds that rocked the Carnival Sunshine, a 102,853-ton ship with a guest capacity of over 3,000 souls, were resultant of a low-pressure storm system that hit the East Coast over the weekend.

Daniel Taylor, a passenger aboard the vessel, told the Daily Mail that around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, the ship sailed into choppy waters, prompting the captain to both issue an advisory about adverse weather conditions and warn of a possible delay.

"He said that the staff would do everything they could to minimize discomfort," said Taylor. "I went to a show in the Liquid Lounge at the front of the ship at that time. ... The sound of us crashing into the swells could be heard over the music playing."

Taylor's intended distraction at the lounge served only to highlight the intensity of the storm.

"Stage lights mounted on the ceiling began to shake, the disco ball started swinging, and the LED wall on the stage ... began rolling side by side on its own," added Taylor.

Sharon Tutrone, a professor at Coastal Carolina University who was a passenger on the battered ship, noted on Twitter that the Sunshine spent "11 hours pitching, diving, and rolling," all the while surrounded by lightning.

Tutrone added that at one point, "the ship took a huge hit by a wave and sounded like it split in two."

The situation reportedly continued to deteriorate into the night, with only sporadic updates from the crew as water began pouring from the ceilings and into the hallways.

WCIV reported that passenger Christa Seifert-alicea said the silence from crew members amid the dark and rocking was the "worst part."

"What we endured is indescribable, not only to feel it yourself but to hear and see it set in on every single person around you from adult, child, and the elderly is something I will never forget," said Seifert-alicea.

Videos shared online by various passengers show the ominous weather that delayed the ship's return as well as the damage wrought within the vessel.

The Daily Mail reported that minor injuries were sustained and one person aboard indicated, "You could smell people being sick walking down the halls."

Vomit ejected by the panic-stricken was not the only thing racing down the halls during the ship's Odyssean thrashing.

One video of a lower deck shows debris, broken doors, and waste traveling down one hallway on a surge of water:

Passenger Brenda Shobert wrote on Facebook, "We had a 40 foot wave hit our side of the ship,.. we almost fell out the bed.. things were crashing all around us and the carpet on my side of the bed was soaked bc water came in thru our balcony door."

The cruise line said in a statement to Fox Weather, "Carnival Sunshine’s return to Charleston was impacted by the weather and rough seas on Saturday. The weather’s prolonged impact on the Charleston area delayed the ship’s arrival on Sunday and as a result, the next voyage’s embarkation was also delayed. We appreciate the patience and understanding of all our guests."

Carnival added, "The weather and rough surf led to some crew cabins being temporarily taken out of service while we clean up water damage. All the public areas of the ship are open and in service and Carnival Sunshine is currently operating its next cruise, a five-day Bahamas sailing."

Search called off for teen who went overboard while on graduation celebration cruise in the Bahamas

Search called off for teen who went overboard while on graduation celebration cruise in the Bahamas

The search for a Louisiana teen who went overboard while on a graduation celebration cruise has been called off, the United States Coast Guard announced Friday, citing Bahamian military officials.

"We were informed by [Royal Bahamas Defence Force] this evening that they were suspending the active search efforts pending further developments & were not requesting further @USCG assistance after notifying the Robbins family," said Lt. Cmdr. Matt Spado, Coast Guard liaison officer in an update posted to Twitter early Saturday morning.

"We offer our sincerest condolences to Cameron Robbins' family and friends," Lt. Cmdr. Spado added.

Cameron Robbins, 18, a recent graduate from University Laboratory School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was on an excursion in the Bahamas when he allegedly jumped overboard on a dare, WAFB reported.

Students from multiple area high schools were on the pirate-themed boat for a graduation trip, the outlet also reported. The students from U-High, including Robbins, had only been in the Bahamas for a few hours before they boarded the sunset cruise.

The U.S. Coast Guard District Seven deployed search and rescue assets to assist the Bahamian military in its efforts. The USCG's Miami-based command center and aircrews supported the RBDF from the initial report of the incident through Friday evening, according to a statement acquired by WAFB.

Justin Morgan, who was Robbins' baseball coach, described the new graduate as well-loved, a fierce competitor, and a hard worker, CNN reported.

"It's just a really emotional time for us right now. We're just trying to send up those prayers and give our support," Kevin George, director of the University Lab School told WBRZ in an interview prior to the search being called off.

"There are lots of kids that are on this vacation and it's just something parents throw together and put together," he also said, adding that he believed 10-15 of U-High's students were also on the trip.

George said Robbins had attended the school for 13 years. He described Robbins as an "athlete, great kid, great smile, great head of hair. Just one of the kids you're so proud of when they cross the stage."

Watch coverage from WBRZ below of the initial search for 18-year-old Cameron Robbins, who went overboard while on a celebratory sunset cruise in the Bahamas.
