Dana Loesch demolishes 'clown show' prosecutor who broke firearm safety rules, pointed rifle with finger on trigger

Leading Second Amendment advocate Dana Loesch, the former spokeswoman of the National Rifle Association, took to task on Monday the Kenosha County prosecutors in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.

What happened?

During closing arguments on Monday, lead prosecutor Thomas Binger made several questionable remarks and decisions.

Binger referred to Kenosha rioters as a "crowd of heroes" while describing Rittenhouse as an "active shooter." He also erroneously claimed Rittenhouse cannot claim self-defense because he was armed, and he later downplayed the actions of Joseph Rosenbaum.

"He tipped over a Porta-Potty, that had no one in it. He swung a chain. He lit a metal garbage dumpster on fire. Oh, and there's this empty wooden flatbed trailer that they pulled out in the middle of the road and they tipped it over to stop some BearCats, and they lit it on fire," Binger said. "Oh, and he said some bad words. He said the N-word. Tsk tsk tsk."

What generated the most backlash, however, was Binger's clear disregard for firearm safety.

During closing arguments, Binger shouldered an AR-15 and placed his finger on the trigger with the bolt closed, meaning it was not evident that the the chamber was empty.

What did Loesch say?

During an interview on Fox News, Loesch observed the tragic and dangerous irony of Binger's actions.

Binger is a prosecutor alleging Rittenhouse acted recklessly and showed disregard for human life. Yet he recklessly abandoned basic firearm rules, which, as the Alec Baldwin tragedy showed recently, often has deadly consequences.

"After some of the arguments that I have heard from what I'm calling 'Brennan & Dale of the Step Brothers law firm,' I mean, it's insane," Loesch said. "He flags the entire courtroom and jury, and to be honest I'm actually kind of surprised that a bailiff, or I don't know if they had state trooper in the courtroom, didn't intervene at that moment."

"Finger on the trigger, didn't even have it shouldered properly," Loesch continued. "He went to the Alec Baldwin school of firearms handling, apparently."

After calling the prosecution a "clown show," noting that prosecutors misunderstood basic firearm facts, Loesch said "self-defense is on trial" in the Rittenhouse case.

"The state is trying to plant the seed of reasonable doubt. That's all they're trying to do is make it look like [Rittenhouse] was somehow reckless," Loesch said. "Well, [Rittenhouse] demonstrated better firearms discipline than either of those two clown shows in the courtroom."

Loesch also knocked the prosecution for describing Rittenhouse as an "active shooter." She said such a characterization is "offensive" and "actually a diminishment of mass casualty incidents."

CBS News tweet says Kyle Rittenhouse 'testified' he 'murdered two men' — and the network deletes 'straight up libelous' tweet amid brutal backlash

Readers angrily called out CBS News for rendering its own verdict Thursday in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial by saying the defendant "testified" that he "murdered two men" amid protests and rioting in Kenosha, Wisconsin, last year.

While Rittenhouse has been charged with two counts of intentional homicide, he has pleaded not guilty and is arguing he acted in self-defense when he fatally shot Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber in August 2020.

Both Fox News and Mediaite reported that CBS News deleted its initial tweet.

But the internet is forever — and below is an image of the tweet in question, which reads, "Kyle Rittenhouse testified in his murder trial yesterday, breaking down in tears as he told the jury he murdered two men at a Black Lives Matter protest last year in self-defense."

Becket Adams of the Washington Examiner offered a terse response to it:

bang up job, guys.pic.twitter.com/bhQVfYMcpZ

— tsar becket adams (@BecketAdams) 1636638440

Adams followed up reaction with a post just six minutes later saying CBS News "deleted" its problematic tweet "and re-wrote it." The apparent new tweet reads "killed two men" instead of "murdered two men."

But criticism over the network's blunder didn't end there.

Brutal backlash

  • "Again, a lot of Rittenhouse coverage and commentary is straight up libelous," Mark Hemingway, senior writer at RealClearInvestigations, tweeted about the network's "murdered two men" faux pas.
  • "When you could just report the story straight but you jump at the chance to put it in a lawsuit-worthy frame instead," journalist Virginia Kruta observed.
  • "Oh, well, then. No need for trials, CBS News has delivered its verdict!" Dan McLaughlin of National Review Online declared.

Others heartily agreed:

  • "Wow it's article after article of blatant misinformation and outright lies," one commenter added. "Different agencies and publications like an organized effort to railroad this kid."
  • "Apparently the plan is to continue with these inflammatory lies until a dam breaks and widespread violence breaks out," another user opined. "Imagine the top-down control they'll claim is necessary to quell massive civil unrest."
  • "In 2021 you are not convicted by a jury of your peers but by a set of semi-anonymous 'elite' 'journalists' / social media managers who hate you," another commenter said.
  • "Somebody obviously forgot what happened after the media falsely accused that youngster from Covington Catholic in KY," another user offered. "Apparently CBS has deep enough pockets that they won't have a problem settling with Kyle Rittenhouse for millions, too."

Anything else?

The Rittenhouse trial has been atop the news cycle this week.

Wendy Rittenhouse, the defendant's mother, said in a Thursday interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity that President Joe Biden "defamed" her son by suggesting he's a white supremacist. Joy Behar, far-left co-host of "The View," on Thursday mocked Rittenhouse's courtroom testimony — during which he sobbed uncontrollably at one point — as "one of thew worst acting jobs I've ever seen." NBA superstar LeBron James also made fun of Rittenhouse's testimony in a tweet to his 50 million followers — but paid for it with scathing pushback from commenters.

San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus takes down 'we'll convert your children' music video after group says it received 'threats of harm'

The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus set a music video to private after the group said it received "threats of harm" over the song that repeats the lines "we'll convert your children" and "we're coming for your children" numerous times.

Chorus director Chris Verdugo told Yahoo Life the tune — "A Message from the Gay Community" — is "satirical."

What's the background?

The SFGMC posted the video on its YouTube page July 1. It begins with one singer introducing the tune by saying, "As we celebrate Pride and progress we've made over these past years, there's still work to be done. So to those of you out there who are still working against equal rights, we have a message for you."

Then the singing begins:

You think we're sinful
You fight against our rights
You say we all lead lives you can't respect
But you're just frightened
You think that we'll corrupt your kids
If our agenda goes unchecked
Funny, just this once, you're correct

We'll convert your children
Happens bit by bit
Quietly and subtly
And you will barely notice it
You can keep them from disco
Warn about San Francisco
Make 'em wear pleated pants
We don't care
We'll convert your children
We'll make them tolerant and fair

The full chorus also sings:

We're coming for them
We're coming for your children
We're coming for them
We're coming for them
We're coming for your children
For your children

While the original clip is not viewable, it has been posted elsewhere:

'Threats of harm'

Yahoo Life wrote that "not everyone got the joke" and said that after the video "went viral" it "was then lambasted by conservative media for its child-focused theme, even prompting death threats against the vocalists ..." The "conservative media" link is for TheBlaze's Wednesday story; the "lambasted" link is for Rod Dreher's piece in the American Conservative.

Verdugo told Yahoo Life that it was a "difficult decision" to set the video to private "because we are an organization whose mission really is both artistic but also activist. We are the first gay men's chorus on the planet. … We are a social justice organization … so it's very difficult for us to decide to take down that video. But the soloists — who are not in the chorus but, in their own right, rising Broadway stars, have received death threats."

Yahoo Life also reported that "critics have used various Twitter accounts to take screenshots of the chorus, numbered the individuals and created spreadsheets, harassing them, even at their places of work."

"All over a satirical piece of music," Verdugo said, according to the outlet.

The SFGMC on Thursday issued a statement on the issue that reads, in part:

The far-right conservative media found our "Message..." video and have taken it as their cause. This has all happened in the last 24 hours and it continues to pick up steam. They have taken the lyrics out of context to support a narrative that suits their intolerant and hateful needs. It is obvious the tongue-in-cheek humor is lost on many. As a result, we have seen the user comments on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram become increasingly alarming. Emails to individuals and the chorus office are vitriolic – including threats of harm.

We feel the first action we must take to keep everyone involved with the chorus and the making of this video safe is to turn the video to private. We are communicating with law-enforcement both locally and nationally. We will not be threatened and we follow legal steps to act on those threats. We will always accept others who may hold different values, but when violence is their choice of expression, since 1969 we have not backed down. After decades of children being indoctrinated and taught intolerance for anyone who is "other," from using the Bible as a weapon to reparative therapy, it's our turn. We have dedicated ourselves to being role models, teaching, and spreading the message of love, tolerance and celebration through our music.

Our second action is to work to control the narrative. The video is being illegally copied and placed on YouTube, Instagram and other websites. Others have the right to follow Fair Use laws, but that is not what is happening here. Therefore, our social media and marketing staff are working around the clock to alert moderators at YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and to file DMCA's (take down of websites featuring stolen content). So far, this has been very successful.

Interesting conclusion

Verdugo told Yahoo Life he didn't think the song would elicit the degree of negative reaction it did.

"It's a lightning rod," he acknowledged to the outlet, in regard to what Yahoo Life said were "the risks of referencing anything gay and child-related in the same breath."

However, Verdugo also told the outlet that the song "came from a very innocent place. We weren't trying to antagonize anyone … we never thought it would — and perhaps that's on us."

At least one child drag queen likes the song

Remember child drag queen Desmond Is Amazing? The kid made many headlines over the past few years in relation to his drag pursuits.

Well, Desmond happens to love the SFGMC's song and said so on Facebook:

Pushback

Despite the SFGMC's vehement defense of the song, not everyone is buying it.

Becket Adams, a commentary writer for the Washington Examiner, took issue with the response of gay men's chorus and let them have it:

“you misunderstood us when we said verbatim ‘we’re coming for your children.’”lmaooo “also, we’re not going to ba… https://t.co/M4BSYGS3cK

— tsar becket adams (@BecketAdams) 1625834798.0

Dreher in his piece noted that "what these smart-asses in San Francisco did was make a satirical song and video that would win them plaudits in their own circles by making fun of normies ... the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus said the quiet part out loud. Sure, they say in the video that they're talking about converting them into being 'tolerant and fair,' but that is not at all how it will be received. ..."

He added, "The contempt these men show towards parents who don't think like them is at the heart of this. The taunting that says, whatever your religious beliefs, we are going to steal the hearts and minds of your children, and there is nothing you hicks can do to stop us. It gives the game away. It gives the game away for them, and for all their corporate allies."
