Former pool boy reveals explicit details of how Jerry Falwell Jr.'s wife allegedly enticed him with sex and claims the former Liberty University president watched: 'They're freaks'

A former Miami pool boy is dishing explicit details about the affair he had with former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr.'s wife, Becki Falwell. An upcoming book and documentary breathed new life into the world-rocking scandal that started 20 years ago.

Falwell Jr.'s fall from grace happened in 2020 when Reuters exposed the affair between his wife and a pool attendant. Falwell Jr. was forced to resign as president of Liberty University – one of the largest Christian universities in the world.

The former pool boy – Giancarlo Granda – is publicizing scandalous revelations of the longtime tryst from 20 years ago to promote a new book and documentary film.

"They have a public image, but behind the scenes, they're freaks," Granda said in the trailer for the upcoming Hulu documentary "God Forbid: The Sex Scandal That Brought Down a Dynasty."

Granda previously worked as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami Beach. While working as a pool boy on March 13, 2012, Becki Falwell allegedly began flirting with Granda – who was 20 at the time.

Granda said he had no idea who the mysterious older woman was.

"As a pool attendant, I would get hit on," Granda added. "But if I would have known that accepting this woman’s invitation to go back to her hotel room would have led to a scandal involving the president of the largest Christian university in the world, and the president of the United States, I would have walked away and just enjoyed my private life."

Of the first time meeting her, Granda described Becki as in "her mid-forties, attractive, fit, and very charismatic."

He claimed that Becki told him, "Oh, these girls don’t know what they’re doing. You need someone older."

He responded by flirting back.

In his upcoming book “Off the Deep End: Jerry and Becki Falwell and the Collapse of an Evangelical Dynasty," Granda wrote, "It all seemed innocent enough, but then near the end of my shift, she asked me to sit down next to her on the daybed, where nobody could hear us, and in a conspiratorial tone asked me, 'Hey, do you want to come back to my room?'"

Granda alleged that Becki informed him, "There’s just one thing . . . My husband wants to watch.”

After Granda purportedly hesitated on the offer to have an affair with a married woman, Becki allegedly reassured him, "Oh don’t worry, he’ll hide in the corner and watch us. That’s his thing. You won’t even know he’s there."

Granda wrote in his book, "By way of explanation, she said that she and her husband had visited Miami Velvet, a local swingers club in Doral. A lot of swingers stayed at the Fontainebleau, so Miami Velvet was well known to all of us who worked there."

Granda claimed that he met the couple at a Days Inn later that night for the rendezvous.

"Jerry lay on the one closest to the door, dressed, but with his jeans unbuttoned and fanned open so you could see his underwear; shoes off, with his shirtsleeves rolled up to the elbows," Granda alleged in his book.

"I kissed Becki, and she was practically vibrating," Granda said. "I picked her up and carried her over to the second bed. She was surprisingly light. She wasn’t wearing any panties, which is the kind of thing that makes an impression on you at twenty, and she half whispered, 'Our rule is anything but intercourse.'"

Granda said after the sexual encounter Becki "was buzzing, electric, and Jerry continued to giggle with excitement."

The next day, Granda said that Becki called him to have another sexual tryst, and he agreed.

The Miami romp led to a six-year affair.

Granda said Falwell's children "had no idea that their dad liked to record his wife having sex with me."

Falwell even made Granda a business partner.

The Falwells have not denied Granda's allegations of an affair with Becki, but Jerry said he was not part of the relationship. The Falwells alleged that the former pool boy attempted to extort them to keep their secret quiet.

Disgraced former Liberty University president Jerry Falwell Jr. admits he's not a 'religious person'

In a lengthy profile piece published by Vanity Fair this week, disgraced former Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. opened up about his remarkable fall from grace and, in doing so, acknowledged what many Christian onlookers long-suspected — that he never seriously cared for the faith his father's school so famously espoused.

"Because of my last name, people think I’m a religious person. But I’m not," Falwell told reporter Gabriel Sherman in a series of interviews late last year, adding, "My goal was to make them realize I was not my dad."

While this statement may amount to more of a repudiation of his father's fundamentalism than a wholesale rejection of Christianity, elsewhere in the profile, Falwell went into greater detail about his spiritual beliefs. In the end, the version of faith Falwell described to Vanity Fair appeared at odds with the mission and values of the university he would at one point lead.

Reportedly at a spiritual crossroads upon entering college, Falwell decided to major in religious studies to figure out what he really believed. It was during those studies, and particularly through a class on apologetics — the study of the defense of the faith — that he developed a "rational" belief that Jesus was literally the son of God.

But nowhere in the write-up is it suggested that Falwell's rational belief in Jesus became anything more than that, much less a personal relationship with him. Moreover, after graduation, Falwell never bothered to join a church but instead embraced a looser interpretation of the commands of scripture.

According to Sherman, "Jerry decided believing in Christ didn’t mean he had to follow the evangelical rules."

While it's true the Bible teaches that faith precedes moral action, it also teaches that "every tree is known by its fruit" (Luke 6:44). And one's obedience to scripture is certainly a marker of faith, or lack thereof.

Based on the descriptions of Falwell's faith recorded in the profile, it appears that the largest Christian university in the world was run by a man who took little interest in the Christian faith.

That news may not be so surprising given the events that led up to Falwell's ouster last year. The former president became embroiled in a series of controversies ranging from his sycophantic support for former President Donald Trump to the posting of a picture on social media of himself aboard a yacht with his pants unzipped and a drink in his hand.

A few weeks later, Falwell's downfall dramatically escalated when an alleged former business partner and pool boy, Giancarlo Granda, came forward with allegations that he engaged in regular sexual encounters with Falwell's wife, Becki, while Falwell would watch.

Falwell later admitted that his wife had an affair with Granda but denied taking any part in it. Instead, he claimed his wife's paramour was attempting to extort him and his family for money.

During that time, a former Liberty University student claimed that Becki Falwell pursued him romantically and performed oral sex on him while he stayed at the Falwell residence.

Falwell was eventually forced to resign from his post as president and wa sued by the university, which argued that he breached "various fiduciary duties" and summarily damaged the school's reputation.

Liberty Students Divided On Falwell Scandal, Grapple With Balancing Justice And Grace

Students disagree about whether Falwell should have been asked to leave sooner, and whether more change is still needed from the university's leadership.

Former Liberty University student claims Becki Falwell performed sex act on him at her home

A former student of Liberty University says Becki Falwell — the wife of the evangelical school's former president, Jerry Falwell Jr. — pursued him romantically and performed oral sex on him while he was staying at the Falwell residence following a band practice with the couple's son, according to an exclusive report from Politico.

What are the details?

The former student, who is now 34, claims that Mrs. Falwell began "grooming" him when he would attend practices at the Falwell residence ahead of the alleged sexual encounter in 2008, when he was 22 years old and she was still an employee of the university.

He also provided text messages and social media exchanges purportedly indicating that she persistently continued to contact him for years afterward.

From Politico's extensive report:

'One night [in August or September], we were up till one or two, and we went back to his room. We had a decent amount of Jack Daniels,' the former student said. He remembered walking into the guest room, just as he'd done many times, closing the door behind him, and preparing the bed.

'I'm laying in the bed and I hear, like, giggling to the side of me on the floor. And, pardon my French, but I was like, 'What the f*** is that?' I look over and it's Becki,' he said. "Just, you know, in my room. I'm like, 'You can't be in here. This can't happen.'

After some prodding, he coaxed Falwell into leaving. He slept, woke up and acted like things were normal.
A few nights later, he stayed the night again. Again, Falwell came into the guestroom where the then-student was in bed.

This time, she was more aggressive. The former student remembers that Falwell climbed into bed with him, and quickly took down his pants.

'I was like, 'uh, what are you doing?'' the former student said. Falwell then proceeded to give him oral sex.

The report comes off the heels of Jerry Falwell Jr. resigning as president of Liberty University after the Falwells' former pool boy and business partner, Giancarlo Granda, claimed he and Becki had an affair over the span of 7 years and that Mr. Falwell would watch the two have sex.

The Falwells have both acknowledged Becki's affair with Granda, but denied that Jerry had any involvement.

The unnamed student, who chose not to allow his story to be told until the allegations from Granda were revealed, says he was left with an immense amount of guilt, shame and depression over the alleged incident. He did not come forward before, he said, because he respected the university's mission and that of its founder, Jerry Falwell, Sr. He also explained, "I don't want to be a homewrecker."

In response to Politico's request for comment, the Falwells issued a statement saying:

It is unfortunate that the coverage of our departure has turned into a frenzy of false and fantastic claims about us. These false and mean spirited lies have hurt us and our family greatly and we will respond fully with the truth at an appropriate time. At this time, however, we think it is best to move on and help the Liberty community focus on its very bright future.

Pool boy claims he had an affair with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr.'s wife — and that Falwell would watch

A former business partner and "pool boy" for Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. claims that he engaged in regular sexual encounters with the university leader's wife, Becki Falwell, over the course of several years — and that Falwell would often watch the two have sex.

What are the details?

Speaking with Reuters, Giancarlo Grandam alleged that his relationship with the Falwells, which began when he was 20, spanned seven years before it eventually soured.

Here's more from the report:

Giancarlo Granda says he was 20 when he met Jerry and Becki Falwell while working as a pool attendant at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach hotel in March 2012. Starting that month and continuing into 2018, Granda told Reuters that the relationship involved him having sex with Becki Falwell while Jerry Falwell looked on.

Granda showed Reuters emails, text messages and other evidence that he says demonstrate the sexual nature of his relationship with the couple, who have been married since 1987. "Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room," Granda said in an interview. Now 29, he described the liaisons as frequent – "multiple times per year" – and said the encounters took place at hotels in Miami and New York, and at the Falwells' home in Virginia.

Granda reportedly shared a screenshot of a FaceTime call he had with the Falwells in 2019 in which "Becki was naked as the two discussed their relationship while Jerry peeked from behind a door."

He also shared a screenshot of a text from 2012 in which Becki Falwell allegedly told him: "Right now I am just missing you like crazy .... Have you had this effect on all of your lady friends?"

What else?

Sunday night, ahead of the report's release, Falwell issued a statement to the Washington Examiner confirming that his wife "had an inappropriate personal relationship with [Granda]" but claimed it was short-lived and denied any personal involvement.

In the statement, he also accused Granda of attempting to extort the couple for several years by threatening to go public about the affair unless he was paid large sums of money.

"Even years after the improper relationship had ended, this person continued to be aggressive with Becki and me in a variety of ways. We finally decided that we had to further withdraw completely from him, which resulted in him stepping up his threats," Falwell said. "Over the course of the last few months this person's behavior has reached a level that we have decided the only way to stop this predatory behavior is to go public."

"I'm just tired of it," Falwell reportedly added regarding the anxiety he's felt over the situation. "It's just got to end."

In the Reuters article, Granda denied the accusations of extortion. In response to the outlet, Falwell's lawyer, Michael Bowe, said Falwell "categorically denies everything you indicated you intend to publish about him."

Anything else?

The allegation follows another controversy surrounding one of America's most publicly visible conservative evangelicals.

Early this month, Falwell agreed to step down from his post at Liberty University indefinitely at the request of the school's board of trustees after he was hit with backlash for posting a since-deleted vacation photo on Instagram of him and his wife's assistant, both with their pants partially unzipped.

In the post's caption, Falwell wrote, "More vacation shots. Lots of good friends visited us on the yacht. I promise that's just black water in my glass. It was a prop only."

Falwell would later tell a local radio station the photo was "just in good fun." He said his wife's assistant was pregnant and couldn't get her pants zipped up so he joined her.
