This is not 'traditional dress': Actor Ben Savage critiques Islamism by sharing images of women wearing burkas

Beloved actor Ben Savage has shared a series of images and videos critical of Islamism over how the dress of women in Muslim countries has evolved over the years.

Over the span of a few days, Savage shared multiple videos that featured comparisons of burkas, niqabs, and other cumbersome garments with the traditional, non-Islamic dress of women in the same regions.

'Woman, Life, Freedom.'

One video in particular mentioned Afghanistan, Algeria, India, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Morocco, Pakistan, and Yemen as places where Muslim women wear the concealing garments.

"This is not Pakistani traditional dress," the video said, for example.

Under a series of images on his Instagram story, Savage captioned the photos with the text "Woman, Life, Freedom."

Also on his Instagram page, Savage shared a post that claimed "Iraq legalized child marriage by lowering the minimum legal marriage age to just 9."

According to multiple outlets, the Iraqi government has indeed proposed changing marriage laws that would make the minimum age 9 for girls and 15 for boys. According to the Standard, the previous age was 18.

Despite the existing law, the Times of India cited a UNICEF report that claimed 28% of Iraqi females are already married before the age of 18.

The law does not appear to have been passed yet.

Savage ran for Congress in 2024 in California's 30th Congressional District where Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff previously sat. Savage came in seventh with just 4% of the vote and did not advance past the primary.

The 43-year-old ran as a Democrat who shared many social justice views related to the left but also advocated for strong public safety measures.

Savage's social media pages are quite political, although the "Boy Meets World" star does not include direct statements.

His latest Instagram post said, "Bring the Bibas family home," in reference to an Israeli family who were captured on October 7, 2023, by Hamas terrorists.

On his X page, Savage has honored slain police officers and shared pro-America sentiments for Memorial Day.

As for his career in show business, Savage has remained distant in recent years from his 1990s Disney co-stars. As former castmates Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, and Will Friedle have enjoyed success with a podcast that reviews their hit sitcom, Savage has yet to appear on the program.

"He just kind of disappeared from our lives," Fishel revealed in an interview with Variety.

Neither Savage nor his former campaign have responded to requests for interviews with Blaze News.

Ben Savage of 'Boy Meets World' fame announces run for office

Ben Savage of "Boy Meets World" fame has announced a bid for U.S. Congress.

Savage will run in California's 30th Congressional District. Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff, who currently occupies that seat, announced a U.S. Senate bid earlier this year.

"I am a proud Californian, union member and longtime resident of District 30 who comes from a family of unwavering service to our country and community," Savage wrote in an Instagram post.

"I'm running for Congress because it’s time to restore faith in government by offering reasonable, innovative and compassionate solutions to our country’s most pressing issues," he wrote. "And it's time for new and passionate leaders who can help move our country forward. Leaders who want to see the government operating at maximum capacity, unhindered by political divisions and special interests."

Savage expresses various left-wing views on his campaign website.

He advocates for the codification of Roe v. Wade, describes himself as "an ally of the LGBTQIA+ community," and calls for banning "assault weapons and weapons of war." He also calls for universal health care and universal pre-K and says that he opposes offshore drilling.

Savage declares that the universal health care "system should include dental, hearing, vision, both long-term and short-term care, both in-patient and out-patient care, mental health services, reproductive and maternity care, and the cost of prescription drugs."

The candidate also expressed his support for teachers' unions, noting that he will "stand with teachers and teachers unions as they fight for better resources and higher pay."

Savage ran for West Hollywood City Council last year but came in seventh place.

He is known for playing the character of Cory Matthews on the TV series "Boy Meets World." More than a decade later, Savage reprised the role, playing Cory Matthews on the series "Girl Meets World."

Ben Savage of 'Boy Meets World' fame plans congressional bid in Rep. Adam Schiff's district, FEC filing indicates

A filing with the Federal Election Commission indicates that Ben Savage plans to run as a Democrat for U.S. Congress in California's 30th Congressional District, which is currently occupied by Rep. Adam Schiff.

Savage is widely known for starring in the TV show "Boy Meets World," which aired from 1993-2000 — he also played the character of Cory Matthews again years later in the show "Girl Meets World."

"Acting and politics are almost too similar. I don’t know…You have to be a very specific breed to do that," Savage told Rolling Stone in a 2014 interview.

Savage ran unsuccessfully for West Hollywood City Council last year, coming in seventh place. "I have lived in West Hollywood for 18 years and look forward to raising a family in this historic community where diversity and differences are valued and celebrated," benforweho.com noted. "I am not part of a political machine. I'm a longtime resident who believes West Hollywood deserves leaders who are more concerned with delivering results than serving interest groups or political ambitions. Our community is facing serious challenges around public safety, struggling businesses, the cost of housing, and homelessness. We need new leaders with a fresh perspective who are ready to begin tackling these issues."

Schiff, who has served in the House for more than two decades, has said that he will seriously consider a U.S. Senate bid if Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) retires.

Feinstein, who will turn 90 later this year, has served in the U.S. Senate for just over three decades — her current term ends in early 2025, and she has not announced whether she will seek reelection.
