White House says Biden tested positive for COVID-19, will self-isolate in Delaware

As the controversy regarding Joe Biden's mental and physical wellness continues, the White House announced Wednesday that President Joe Biden had tested positive for COVID-19.

"President Biden is vaccinated, boosted, and he is experiencing mild symptoms following a positive COVID-19 test. He will be returning to Delaware, where he will self-isolate and will continue to carry out all of his duties fully during that time," read a statement from the White House.

Biden has previously contracted the coronavirus several times. He also said that he was sick as an excuse to explain his disastrous performance at the presidential debate against Trump last month.

Prior to that announcement, the president had said in an interview that he would consider stepping down if a "medical condition" forced his decision.

“If I had some medical condition that emerged, if somebody, if doctors came to me and said, 'You got this problem and that problem,'" Biden said in an interview with BET.

The diagnosis led to some speculation that the Democratic Party is preparing for Biden to step down from the campaign.

Also on Wednesday, Rep. Adam Schiff, a prominent Democrat from California, called on Biden to step down in order to give the party a better chance of defeating former President Donald Trump.

Some criticized the campaign after video showed the president getting on Air Force One after the positive COVID test while not wearing a mask, walking near members of his team who are also not wearing masks.

Trump campaign hilariously mocks Biden's precarious candidacy in statement on VP debate

The Trump campaign made light of the Democrats' internal battle about President Joe Biden's candidacy in a statement about the vice presidential debate.

Members of the Biden-Harris campaign issued a statement saying they had accepted an invitation for the vice presidential debate hosted by CBS. They called on the Trump-Vance campaign to accept the challenge, but the Republicans responded instead with a hilarious statement.

'That’s some epic trolling.'

“We don’t know who the Democrat nominee for Vice President is going to be, so we can’t lock in a date before their convention," said Trump campaign senior adviser Brian Hughes.

"To do so would be unfair to Gavin Newsom, JB Pritzker, Gretchen Whitmer, or whoever Kamala Harris picks as her running mate," he added.

The humorous jab at the growing prospect of Biden stepping down from the campaign was appreciated by many on social media.

"OK, I not only burst out laughing but went and told my husband who hardly ever finds anything funny and he burst out laughing, too," one user replied on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

"I have to admit, that’s some epic trolling," said another user.

"Well played by the Trump campaign," read another response.

While more than a dozen Democrat members of the U.S. House of Representatives had previously called on Biden to step down, a prominent leader of the party added to the chorus of voices on Wednesday.

“A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November," said Rep. Adam Schiff of California.

Adam Schiff calls for Joe Biden to step down from campaign

On Wednesday, Democrat Rep. Adam Schiff of California for the first time called for President Joe Biden to step down from the presidential campaign.

Schiff made the comments in a statement to the Los Angeles Times.

"Joe Biden has been one of the most consequential presidents in our nation’s history, and his lifetime of service as a senator, a vice president, and now as president has made our country better," wrote Schiff in his statement.

“But our nation is at a crossroads,” he continued. “A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the president can defeat Donald Trump in November.”

He went on to say that Biden's decision should be his alone but that the president should "pass the torch" to another Democrat who can beat former President Donald Trump in the election.

He also said that if Biden decides to stay the course, he would support his campaign regardless.

“I will do everything I can to help them succeed,” Schiff said. “There is only one singular goal: defeating Donald Trump. The stakes are just too high.”

Schiff is running for a California seat in the U.S. Senate after Dianne Feinstein died in September.

Biden spoke at the NAACP conference on Tuesday, and while he took credit for economic improvement in the black community, he also misread the teleprompter several times and was criticized for his fumbles.
