Blaze News original: Furious, fed-up commuters take matters into their own hands when leftist protesters block their way

We've seen in recent years radical leftists shutting down traffic — particularly during morning and evening rush hour — with greater and greater regularity.

Check out some of their exploits here and here and here. In the last example, pro-Palestinian protesters stopped their cars on a major bridge in a coordinated fashion to halt the movement of traffic — and then tossed their car keys into the water. That stunt necessitated tow trucks to move 29 cars off the bridge, adding significantly to the delay before normal traffic flow could resume.

Video shows motorists grabbing and tossing away protesters' signs, dragging leftists from the line they formed across the traffic lanes — and one driver is seen wrestling a protester on the hood of a car before knocking him to the freeway surface.

Nope, they're not likely winning many allies for their causes among the stranded.

One of their opponents is none other than Democrat U.S. Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania, who — among the growing number non-woke things he's said lately — declared last month that "blocking a bridge or berating folks in Starbucks isn't righteous, it just makes you an asshole."

In most cases, those whose lives and livelihoods are delayed and jeopardized by left-wing traffic blockers simply stay in their vehicles and accept the hassle.

But there are limits.

The following dozen examples show what can happen when commuters get fed up with protesters getting in their way — and take matters into their own hands:

LA rush-hour motorists in no mood to play, put the smackdown on pro-Palestinian protesters blocking freeway

— (@)

If the pro-Palestinian protesters who blocked traffic on the 110 Freeway in Los Angeles during rush hour last December thought they'd emerge unscathed, they were not thinking clearly. Indeed, angry drivers exited their cars and got physical with the leftists. Video shows motorists grabbing and tossing away protesters' signs, dragging leftists from the line they formed across traffic lanes — and one driver is seen wrestling a protester on the hood of a car before knocking him to the freeway surface. Traffic was shut down for more than an hour; police made 75 arrests.

Antifa militants block intersection; 1 jumps on car's hood. Driver, reportedly an elderly man, hits the gas, goes right through them — and with militant still on hood

— (@)

On May Day 2021, Antifa was up to its predictable antics, and a group of about 20 black-clad militants formed a complete blockade of a Seattle intersection just before 11 p.m. But one driver decided to not turn around or otherwise capitulate — and moved the vehicle forward. After one Antifa member jumped on the car's hood, the driver — perhaps deciding it would be wiser to get away immediately rather than endure property damage or worse — sped right through the black-uniformed swarm. The driver also did so with the Antifa militant still atop the hood. Conservative commentator Jason Rantz of KTTH-AM said the driver was was elderly male, and the individual on the hood was a female who claimed she was injured but nevertheless got arrested; still, Rantz said she wasn't being booked.

Viral video shows woman confronting climate protesters blocking traffic — and dragging one off the road by her hair

Last July a German woman went viral on social media after a video showed her grabbing the hair of a climate activist blocking traffic — and dragging the female activist off a road. The dragged-away protester was undeterred, however, going back to sit in front of traffic again — but she soon was dragged away a second time. Transport Minister Volker Wissing said the protesters — part of Letzte Generation, or the Last Generation — aren't protecting the climate; instead he said they're "engaged in criminal activity."

Motorist navigates around apparently unsanctioned protest — and leftists blocking traffic absolutely lose it

This late 2021 protest took place in downtown Minneapolis outside a courthouse where the trial for Kim Potter — a Brooklyn Center police officer who fatally shot Daunte Wright during a traffic stop months before — was taking place, WCCO-TV reported. But when a motorist managed to navigate through the protesters blocking traffic, the enraged leftists screamed bloody murder as they climbed atop, pounded on, and chased the car. Potter ultimately was convicted of manslaughter and served 16 months in prison before her April 2023 release.

'Extinction Rebellion' protester stands atop London train, delaying furious commuters — so they drag him right off it

— (@)

No, it didn't happen on a roadway — or in the U.S. But rest assured, more than a few folks in the United Kingdom aren't happy when left-wing protesters interrupt their commutes, either. In October 2019, climate change activists from the radical Extinction Rebellion group climbed atop London trains during rush hour, and commuters weren't having it. Video shows one protester on the roof of a London Underground train at the Canning Town station before he was grabbed around his legs and dragged off as commuters cheered. BBC News said the protester appeared to be kicked and hit by the swearing crowd on the platform. A second protester was chased along the top of the train by a commuter before being dragged off as well, the outlet said.

'Bunch of f***ing arseholes' blocking traffic in UK quickly learn motorists have little patience for them

About 40 members of "Insulate Britain" blocked traffic during rush hour one morning in October 2021 at an intersection near Dartford Crossing in London as they held signs protesting for the insulation of Britain's social housing. But motorists in front of them had jobs and things to do — real responsibilities — so the gainfully employed proceeded to drag the protesters out of the roadway, ripping their signs away and disposing of them. A mother was angry because she was trying to get her 11-year-old son to school, while a man called the protesters a "bunch of f***ing arseholes."

Furious motorist confronts Black Lives Matter protesters blocking traffic, gets charged; Texas AG blasts 'mob rule'

— (@)

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton blasted "mob rule" and Plano's police chief after an angry driver caught on video confronting Black Lives Matter militants for blocking traffic was the only person charged in the May 2021 incident. Paxton's statement said after "a group of militant BLM protesters illegally shut down traffic underneath a major highway," an "Antifa-like character pulled what appears to be a gun and pointed it at the man," who had exited his car "to demand the mob clear the way." Paxton added in his statement that "only one person from this whole incident is being charged with a crime: the one man who told the protesters to go away. Why? For 'assault with contact' because he slapped a person's hand out of his face. No one else is being charged with anything. None of the law-breaking traffic-blockers, not the guy who pulled a weapon — no one!"

Left-wing protester gets on top of car's hood as his comrades surround vehicle — but driver isn't messing around

In May 2020, George Floyd protesters surrounded a vehicle in a downtown Denver intersection, and one of them got on top of the hood. The driver, however, was in no mood to chat about social justice. The motorist accelerated, the protester hopped off — but the driver made contact with the protester amid a U-turn attempt, knocking him to the street. Oh, and was the mob furious. They reacted like they always do — chasing after the car on foot, as if they'd ever catch it.

Livid motorist trying to get home to his daughter gets in faces of pro-Palestinian protesters in front of his vehicle — and shoves them out of the way. The masked mob quickly backs down.

The incident caught on video in January took place near the Manhattan Bridge, the New York Post said. The motorist later said, “I wish that I had not been captured on video in such an angry state and behaved in such a way, but I could not allow those people to impede my passage and, in essence, hold me hostage," the paper added.

'I'm telling you one last time!' Fed-up man exits vehicle to physically move protesters blocking road

Last July a group called "Just Stop Oil" marched on London streets during rush hour "in hopes of disrupting traffic and crucial road networks," the Daily Mail said, calling its members "eco-zealots." The outlet added that the group pledged at the time to "paralyze London" with slow-marching columns 10 times bigger than any previous marches in order to force the "murderous government" to abandon new domestic oil and gas licenses. Well, one man wasn't about to let them march so easily in front of the car he was in, as video shows him confronting several protesters and physically getting them out of the way.

Watch how quickly these protesters in Portugal fold up after drivers, angry that they're blocking a road, get physical

Angry motorists in Portugal took matters into their own hands last fall, exiting their vehicles and physically dragging away climate activists who were blocking a busy roadway, Sky News Australia reported. The outlet added that members of climate activist group Climáximo were the ones blocking motorists.

Protesters try and fail to halt forward progress of bus. But they're quite adept at hollering 'stop!' — and do so over 40 times.

The video title from the Scottish Sun is just a tad overblown: "Bus driver rams Just Stop Oil protesters' blockade nearly running them over." Uh, rams? The bus driver from last October's get-together traveled at a snail's pace. In the end, the protesters' constant "stop!" refrain fell on deaf ears. Oh, and nearly running them over? Watch the clip. The patient driver just isn't the first one to blink.

Video: LA freeway motorists put the smack down on pro-Palestinian protesters blocking them

Some motorists on Los Angeles' southbound 110 Freeway weren't about to put up with a line of pro-Palestinian protesters blocking them in the middle of Wednesday morning's rush — and angry drivers exited their cars and got physical with the leftists.

In the below video, motorists are seen grabbing protesters' signs and tossing them away, dragging them from the line they formed stretching across the freeway lanes — and one driver is seen wrestling a protester on the hood of a car before knocking him to the freeway surface.

A frustrated 110 Freeway driver fights with protestors as rush hour traffic is stopped on the roadwa youtu.be

KNBC-TV reported that the actions of the protesters — calling for an Israel-Hamas war ceasefire in Gaza — brought morning traffic to a halt for more than an hour after they linked arms around 9 a.m.

Backups extended to nearby streets and freeways, the station said, adding that traffic on the southbound 110 was jammed for miles, well past Interstate 5.

California Highway Patrol officers began taking people into custody just before 10 a.m., KNBC said, adding that most of the protesters were removed by 10:30 a.m.

The station said several cars appeared to have stalled due to mechanical problems, which added to "traffic headaches." Tow trucks removed the vehicles, KNBC noted.

Police said 75 people were arrested, but it wasn't immediately clear whether all of them were protesters, the station said.

The 110 Freeway connects downtown Los Angeles with Long Beach to the south and San Gabriel Valley communities to the northeast, KNBC explained.

The Los Angeles Times in its report on the protest called the 110 "one of the most notoriously congested thoroughfares in Los Angeles."

Pro-Palestinian protesters pulled the same stunt last month up north on the Bay Bridge — which connects San Francisco and Oakland — then proceeded to throw their car keys into the water below, forcing their vehicles to be towed.

Seattle cop seems to defend leftists blocking traffic, says 'purpose of protesting' is making us 'a little bit uncomfortable'

A Seattle police officer was caught on video Saturday standing feet away from left-wing protesters blocking downtown traffic — and he also seemed to defend their actions in the faces of annoyed motorists, telling them "it is what it is" and that the "purpose of protesting" sometimes means making others' lives "a little bit uncomfortable."

What are the details?

A few minutes into the rather astounding clip — which journalist Jonathan Choe posted on X — one of the trapped drivers asked the two officers on the scene, "Why can't you help us turn around?"

Image source: X video screenshot via @choeshow

With that, one of the officer replied, "We don't have the resources to do all of that, but we're doing what we can, which is monitoring" the protest.

The officer then added the coup de grace: "Like, this is kind of the purpose of protesting, is to kind of bring awareness to what they're protesting by making everyone else's life a little bit uncomfortable."

The exchange took place just after the 2:20 mark on the below video.Content warning: Language:

While police in the clip said permits aren't needed for protests, one individual, clearly frustrated by the protesters blocking traffic, told Choe, "Cops aren't doing anything! That's illegal! They cannot block traffic! But the cops are standing there doing nothing. It's ridiculous! There's f***in' 30 cops out here, and no one's doing anything!"

Image source: X video screenshot via @choeshow

Choe also spotted two other people who appeared to abandon their vehicles in a backed-up traffic lane as they headed to the sidewalk and presumably toward their destinations. (Hey, not necessarily worse than paying for parking, eh?)

Another trapped motorist good-naturedly told Choe that while he's on the protesters' side, he "would like to go home."

Seattle police on Monday didn't immediately respond to Blaze News' request for comment regarding the officer who appeared to lecture the trapped motorist by saying the "purpose of protesting" is to "kind of bring awareness to what they're protesting by making everyone else's life a little bit uncomfortable."

'I'm gonna knock you the f*** out!' Lone motorcyclist says protesters attacked him from behind, threatened him as they blocked Akron streets

A motorcyclist told police a group of protesters physically attacked from behind, knocked him to the ground, and damaged his motorcycle as they blocked an Akron, Ohio, street Tuesday night, WEWS-TV reported.

What are the details?

Police told the station several "agitators" in the group stopped traffic in the area, and the 35-year-old motorcyclist added to cops that he was heading down South High Street around 8:30 p.m. when protesters threatened him and told him to turn around.

Two or more people then attacked the motorcyclist from behind, WEWS reported, adding that he was knocked to the ground and assaulted.

Police said the motorcyclist suffered "significant" facial injuries and that his motorcycle was damaged. The victim drove himself to a hospital for treatment, WOIO-TV reported.

Here's cellphone video purportedly of the attack, though it's shot from a distance. However, the clip does show the injured motorcyclist — with a bloody face and shirt — close up after the attack. Content warning: Profanity:

In the clip, protesters are heard threatening the injured motorcyclist as he gathers his shoe, sunglasses, and cap:

  • "Turn the f*** around, dumbass!"
  • "You tried to run her the f*** over! If you do it again, I'm gonna knock you the f*** out!"
  • "Get the f*** outta here, bitch!"
  • "Now get on your f***in' bike and turn it around! If you don't, I'm gonna hit you again! I asked nicely! I promise you! I warned you! Tryin' to prove a point to your white friends and got your ass beat!"

As of Wednesday evening, no arrests have been made, the WEWS said, adding that those with information about the case can call the Akron Police Department Detective Bureau with anonymous tips at 330-375-COPS or CrimeStoppers at 330-434-COPS.

Anything else?

Police said that after the attack on the motorcyclist, the caravan of protesters left the area and traveled to other neighborhoods "causing disturbances, creating safety concerns, and obstructing the flow of traffic," WEWS reported.

In the video of the attack, one of the protesters uttered the N-word after saying "Jayland Walker" to the motorcyclist — a reference to the black motorist who was fatally shot by Akron police in late June.

WEWS reported that protesters have been in the city since Walker's death, and Akron officials twice instituted curfews after agitators damaged downtown businesses amid protests.

VIDEO: Heavily armed leftists surround, threaten lone Portland motorist. But when fed-up driver points his own gun at them, all hell breaks loose.

Heavily armed leftists apparently acting as security for a march in Portland earlier this week pointed their guns at a lone motorist and threatened him before the fed-up driver exited his truck and pointed his own gun at them — and then all hell broke loose.

What are the details?

Video showed a large group of leftist militants marching down a Portland street Wednesday reportedly to remember Patrick Kimmons, a black man fatally shot by Portland police in 2018.

But a vehicle apparently leading the group came upon a pickup truck driver who was traveling toward the marchers, and the lead vehicle blocked the driver's path — and in seconds, numerous militants descended upon the pickup truck driver and began threatening him.

Thing is, though, the driver had a gun, too — and the heavily armed militants didn't like that one bit.

"You better f***ing not!" one leftist was heard yelling at the driver. "Put your f***ing gun down!"

The driver, standing behind his truck door, pointed at one particularly well-strapped leftist and twice yelled back, "You got about five seconds to lower that f***ing weapon!"

The lone driver — who faced about a half dozen armed leftists in the standoff — jawed with the hostile group, calling them "c**ksuckers" and "f***in' idiots" and repeatedly ordering them to "shut up."

One leftist told the driver that his "vehicle is a deadly weapon" — which didn't go over too well with the driver who noted all the rifles pointed in his direction.

As the driver got back into this truck and began to move past the militants, one leftist called him a "f***ing Nazi" as others demanded he "get outta here!" Then just before he reached the intersection — apparently after one of the leftists hit or threw something at his truck — the driver stopped, got out, and confronted the group.

The situation grew tense, with many people screaming, and the driver grabbed his gun and moved forward on one of the rifle-wielding leftists —

— who promptly shoved the driver backward.

With that, the driver regained his footing and drew his gun on the group.

But he was tackled from behind after which numerous militants piled on him.

Soon the driver was requesting an ambulance, asking for his gun back, and telling the leftists that he's a disabled Marine.

Here's the video. (Content warning: Language):

While Oregon is an open-carry state, gun owners cannot do so in Portland unless they are concealed carry license holders and their guns are not loaded.

But wait! There was more fun!

If you thought that was enough left-wing lawlessness for one day, there's video of the same armed group attacking a different vehicle whose driver didn't obey their orders and moved through and past their blockade.

As you can imagine, the militants didn't like that too much — and apparently broke the red SUV's windows and punctured at least two of its tires while managing to get the driver to stop.

"You f***ed with the wrong f***in' people, bro!" one particularly erudite leftist hollered at the motorist.

The militants claimed one of their comrades was hit by the SUV and continued to threaten the driver. Eventually the apparently injured motorist exited the vehicle as one of the militants said on camera they were giving medical aid to him.

Here's the clip of that confrontation. (Content warning: Language):

What did police have to say?

Portland police said they were called Wednesday around noon about a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near North Interstate Avenue and North Killingsworth Street. But police said they found no pedestrians who claimed to have been struck.

Police said they knew the reported incident was related to the march, which they said had moved away into nearby streets by the time they arrived at the scene — and added that the march featured some people "openly carrying firearms."

More from the police:

Additional calls came in from people who had been driving vehicles in the area and who were blocked by the crowd in the street. One person said people in the crowd broke out their vehicle windows, damaged tires, and sprayed them with some kind of irritant near North Interstate Avenue and North Killingsworth Street.

A person in another vehicle blocked by the crowd near North Alberta Street and North Michigan Avenue got into a dispute with people who surrounded him and took a firearm from him, as well as tools and keys.

Portland Police attempted to collect as many statements as possible from those involved. Officers will document as much of the incidents as witnesses share and will attempt to gather available evidence, including video for follow-up on any criminal allegations.

One person was transported by ambulance to the hospital following one of the altercations.

VIDEO: Antifa militant jumps on car's hood as fellow comrades close in. So the driver — reportedly an elderly man — hits the gas.

Left-wing militants posing as protesters are an eccentric bunch, to put it mildly.

Particularly when they assemble to block vehicle traffic on freeways and street-level intersections. To borrow a common phrase, they think they own the road.

Showing no apparent fear that they'll be run over by motorists, their M.O. is to form a small army and stand in the way of moving vehicles — fully expecting motorists to stop.

And the strategy has pretty much worked. Drivers typically have been the first ones to blink, and depending on how much fear is involved, might even consider themselves lucky if they can make U-turns and escape with just a few dents and broken windows.

Yes, America — we have new kings and queens of the streets.

But not every driver dutifully bows at their throne.

What happened?

Surveillance video caught the moment when a motorist came upon a group of about 20 black-clad Antifa militants forming a complete blockade of a Seattle intersection just before 11 p.m. Saturday night.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @jasonrantz

At the start of the clip, a couple of drivers, on cue, abandoned the idea of getting too close to the militants staring them down in the crosswalks and simply turned around to search for other routes.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @jasonrantz

But one driver apparently was in no mood to capitulate.

Video shows the driver stopping about 50 feet from the intersection at the top right of the screen — and an Antifa militant waving what appears to be a flashlight at the car.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @jasonrantz

However, this particular driver chose not to turn around or sit idly by — and moved the vehicle forward. This irked Antifa a lot, and one comrade decided to show how irksome it was by jumping on the car's hood.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @jasonrantz

Yowsa. The Antifa faithful began running toward the vehicle, and the driver quickly hit reverse — with the militant still on the hood.

Image source: Twitter video screenshot via @jasonrantz

And perhaps deciding that it would be a better idea to get out immediately rather than watching his car get smashed to bits — or worse — the driver hit the gas and simply sped through the roach-like swarm.

With the Antifa stuntperson still atop the hood.

What happened next?

Conservative commentator Jason Rantz of KTTH-AM tweeted that the driver — an elderly male — was the victim and released. But Rantz said the individual on the hood was arrested.

In a subsequent tweet, Rantz added that the suspect — a female — claimed minor injuries and was headed to a hospital but was not being booked.

Rantz added a "PSA" to his tweet thread: "You do not have the right to block traffic, jump on the hoods of cars, or otherwise interfere with the rights of drivers or pedestrians, even if you think you're a freedom fighter or hero."

Motorists who injure protesters blocking traffic might not be liable if Missouri bill passes

A Missouri bill introduced by a Republican state senator says motorists won't be liable for injuries to protesters who block traffic providing certain conditions are met and that deadly force is OK against protesters who enter private property.

What are the details?

"To think that your right to protest enables you the right to stop traffic and literally stop people's ability to move about freely in this nation is a gross misunderstanding of our constitutional rights," state Sen. Rick Brattin said during a Missouri Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Monday, KMBC-TV reported.

Here's the wording straight from Senate Bill 66:

  • "LIABILITY FOR MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVERS DURING A PROTEST (Section 537.570) — This act provides that a person operating a motor vehicle shall not be liable for injuries to another person who blocks traffic if such person was exercising due care and was not grossly negligent."
  • "USE OF FORCE DURING PROTESTS (Section 563.031) — This act provides that a person may use deadly force against another person if such force is used against a person who is participating in an unlawful assembly and unlawfully enters or attempts to enter private property that is owned or leased by an individual."

The bill also contains provisions that clamp down on protesters who riot, harass, commit crimes against emergency service providers, and commit vandalism.

Pushback

Of course, not everyone likes the bill — such as Rev. Darryl Gray of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri, the station said.

"For God sake, authorizing the use of deadly force by non-law enforcement people is creating a recipe for disaster by giving permission to commit bodily harm or even taking a life," Gray said, according to KMBC. "We believe that human life is more sacred than property."

Sharon Jones of the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP testified against the bill, the station said: "We really are crossing that line to a point of suppressing free speech, as opposed to just controlling the time and manner of it."

And the American Civil Liberties Union of Missouri is urging a no vote against the bill, Newsweek reported: "No driver should be able to hit a protester and get away with it. Period."

NJ state police investigating Trump supporters who adopted the common left-wing protest tactic of blocking traffic

Left-wing activists spent the summer protesting, creating chaos, and in many cities, blocking traffic as a means to make their voices heard. One protester in Seattle even tragically lost her life after she was struck on a darkened freeway where protesters had gathered to block traffic.

Benjamin Jealous, former president of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, told the Wall Street Journal that protesters block highways because they "feel like they have no other way to get their community to stop and take notice of what's happened."

But when supporters of President Donald Trump engaged in some highway blocking of their own over the weekend, law enforcement found sufficient grounds to begin investigating.

What happened?

From NJ.com:

With the contentious 2020 presidential election just two days away, a large motorcade of President Donald Trump's supporters brought the northbound express lanes lanes of the Garden State Parkway to a standstill early Sunday afternoon, before the caravan drove north to Union County.

Trump supporters also packed the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge in New York on Sunday. Similar caravans have clogged roadways in Texas, Arizona, and Washington state the last two days. It's unclear if they were coordinated.

Now, the head of the New Jersey state police said those drivers who participated in the highway blocking on Sunday will be punished if authorities are able to obtain enough evidence against them.

"If we are able to get enough evidence … I would imagine that they would be issued motor vehicle summonses for obstructing traffic," State Police Col. Patrick Callahan said, according to the New York Post.

In fact, authorities are reportedly reviewing video of the incident in hopes of positively identifying those who took place in the peaceful protest.

And apparently there were people upset that police officers did not take more immediate punitive action against the Trump supporters. Instead, officers simply worked to get traffic flowing again.

"I never want to second-guess troopers ... but to start issuing citations and summonses out there probably would have hindered the troopers' ability to get the parkway flowing north," Callahan said, according to the Post.

Anything else?

Meanwhile in New York, Trump supporters also packed the Mario M. Cuomo Bridge.

In response, New York state Sen. David Carlucci, a Democrat, also called for the Trump protesters to face criminal punishment.

"What was seen in New York was aggressive, dangerous, and reckless behavior by some Trump supporters," Carlucci said in a statement. "The New York State Police should be working to identify these individuals and charging them. We all have the right to show support for a presidential candidate, but we do not have the right to endanger others and break the law."
