'I'll be back soon': Star NFL player out indefinitely after shocking blood clot diagnosis

New England Patriots star defensive tackle Christian Barmore will be absent for an unknown amount of time after his team announced he was treated for blood clots.

The news came as a shock on Barmore's 25th birthday and just months following a contract extension with the Patriots.

'Had this gone untreated, it could’ve been the worst for Christian Barmore.'

The team posted the surprise news on X Sunday evening, revealing that Barmore had visited a Boston-area hospital: "Over the weekend, Christian Barmore was diagnosed with blood clots. He was appropriately treated by the doctors at Mass General Brigham, who tested, evaluated and treated Christian. Our principal concern at this time is Christian's health and well-being. Fortunately, Mass General Brigham provides some of the best healthcare in the world."

"While there is no current timetable for his return, we know Christian is getting tremendous care and we look forward to his full recovery," the team added.

Barmore posted to Instagram that same evening and wrote, "Thank you everyone for all the support, thoughts, and prayers. I'll be back soon."

Barmore's agent, Nicole Lynn, thanked the Patriots' athletic trainer, Jim Whalen, for "his absolute diligence and care over the last couple of days," ESPN reported.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said Sunday that Barmore had a bruise on the back of his calf and "kind of thought it was nothing," but Whalen insisted on having it looked at anyway.

"Had this gone untreated, it could’ve been the worst for Christian Barmore," Rapoport added.

New England drafted Barmore in the second round in 2021 and has played there his whole career.

The news comes as a huge blow to the team after the 6'5" player led the team with 8.5 sacks in 2023. He was set to be a starter this season as well.

Barmore was rewarded with a huge contract extension in April 2024 worth $83 million with an $18 million signing bonus. He is set to earn an average of $20.75 million per season starting in 2025 with over $31 million in guaranteed money.

Barmore also led the NFL in passes batted down at the line of scrimmage in 2023.

The defensive player posted a thank you message on his birthday the morning the team announced his health issue, giving his fans an opportunity to wish him luck in his recovery.

"We love you B […] Prayers on a full recovery we will miss your absence. You're our Superman. GO PATS," one Patriots fan wrote.

Browns wide receiver Marquise Goodwin, 32, to miss start of NFL training camp due to 'alarming' blood clots in legs and lungs

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Marquise Goodwin will miss the start of NFL training camp due to "alarming" blood clots in his legs and lungs, the team revealed on Friday.

Goodwin began experiencing discomfort in his legs and slight shortness of breath during organized team activities in the spring. Follow-up tests revealed the 32-year-old athlete had been suffering from blood clots in his legs and lungs.

Goodwin – who signed with the Browns in free agency during the offseason – said of the blood clots, "It was really alarming at first because I've experienced injury throughout my career, but it's never been anything like this that could turn into something detrimental if it's not taken care of."

"It was frightening at first, but now I'm at ease with it. I've prayed and just given it over to God," the 10th-year veteran declared. "It's out of my control, and the only thing I can control is my effort and attitude and how I approach each day moving forward."

"It's one of those things that is totally out of my control, out of the doctor's control and out of the trainer's control," he added. "It's really an unfortunate deal we have to deal with, but we need to deal with it in the proper fashion. The Browns are doing everything in their power to support me through it by allowing me to be around the team, on the field and in meetings."

Goodwin said of the support from the Browns, "I'm grateful for that, and hopefully this thing gets back under control and I can feel my body and what I need to feel so I can help this team make this run."

The Browns did not indicate if or when Goodwin would rejoin the team on the field because of his non-football illness.

The Browns' first training camp practice is set for Saturday at the Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.

Goodwin has played in 102 games in his career, totaling 187 career receptions for 3,023 yards and 18 touchdowns, while averaging 16.2 yards per reception.

The Texas native has played for five teams after being drafted in the third round by the Buffalo Bills in 2013, including the San Francisco 49ers, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Seattle Seahawks, and the Browns.

Deion Sanders recovering from emergency surgery to repair blood clots, delivers powerful prayer: 'Lord you blessed me enough'

NFL legend Deion Sanders is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery to treat blood clots in his legs. Prior to his successful surgery, Sanders delivered a powerful and inspiring prayer.

Sanders suffered from blood-flow issues and required emergency surgery to treat blood clots. On Saturday, Sanders posted a video on Instagram of him recovering from surgery and speaking to his children from his hospital bed.

"I had a big blood clot in my thigh that they got out, and I had some below my knee that they got out," Sanders said. "Then I've got one in the right leg that they're going to get soon."

The Colorado football coach told his children that he expects to be released from the hospital on Sunday – just two days after the surgery.

"Now this is what happened. I went to the doctors the other day to check myself out and I have two clots in my leg. One in my right leg, one in my left leg in my thigh," Sanders said prior to the surgery. "Now I have a procedure tomorrow to try and get those clots so I can have proper blood flow through the leg so I can fix the toes."

Last week, the former NFL star's doctors warned him that he may need to have his leg amputated because of the blood clots. At the moment, Sanders does not need to have his leg amputated.

"There's no talk of amputation or any of that whatsoever," Sanders recently asserted. "The doctors were just telling me worst comes to worst, this was going to happen but I believe in staying right so you don't have to go left."

Sanders, 55, previously experienced health complications following surgery to fix a dislocated toe and an inflamed nerve. Sanders had three "life-threatening blood clots," according to People magazine. The Super Bowl-winning player was forced to have two toes amputated in 2021 because of blood clots.

The eight-time NFL Pro Bowler delivered a powerful prayer on his Instagram prior to his surgery:

Lord, it's me. I'm not asking for anything, I just wanted to say thank you. If you never bless me again, Lord, you've blessed me enough. I just want to say thank you. If you never cover me again, Lord, you've covered me plenty. Thank you. If you never choose to guide me or lead me again, Lord, you've led me and guided me enough. I just want to say thank you Lord. Thank you for showing me you, Lord. Thank you for showing me how powerful you are, how mighty you are, how omniscient you are. Lord, I just want to say thank you. When some said they had my back, but all hell broke loose and I've searched far in near, Lord, you were still there. Therefore, I just want to say thank you. Lord, I thank you for all the private battles you fought for me when they thought they had me. Lord thank you. I thank you could just allow me to see the day when many people deserve to see it much more than I do. But you so fitted Lord that I see it one more time. Lord, I just want to say thank you. Lord, I promised to never get weary in thanking you because you never got to weary in blessing me with opportunity, like the opportunity you presented today, that's why we call it the present because it's truly a gift from you. Lord, I thank you.

'I have full trust in Jesus!': Deion Sanders may have foot amputated due to health complications, NFL legend already lost toes to blood clots

Legendary football player Deion Sanders may need to have his foot amputated because of health complications.

Sanders suffered blood clots, and was forced to have two toes amputated in 2021. The eight-time NFL Pro Bowler suffered health complications following surgery to fix a dislocated toe and an inflamed nerve. Sanders had three "life-threatening blood clots," according to People magazine.

At the time, Sanders said, "They were talking about the amputation of toes. Then they were talking about the amputation of my leg from the knee down. Then, they were trying to ensure I had life."

Sanders, 54, had two toes amputated.

ESPN previously reported, "He developed a femoral arterial blood clot. He also had compartment syndrome, which meant his leg swelled, and doctors had to flay open his leg to drain fluid. Sanders later had his left foot's big toe and second toe amputated."

Now, the blood flow issues have continued, and doctors are discussing the possibility of amputating the former NFL star's left foot.

The revelation was made on "Thee Pregame Show," which documents the football team of the University of Colorado Boulder. This is Sanders' first season as the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes football team.

The video clip shows Sanders meeting with athletic trainer Lauren Askevold, orthopedic surgeon Dr. Ken Hunt, and vascular surgeons Dr. Donald Jacobs and Dr. Max Wohlauer to discuss the next steps in correcting his blood circulation issues.

“You just have to understand what the risks are. Things can cascade,” Jacobs said before adding, "He could lose the foot. It’s a risk."

Sanders replied, "Well, I know what risks are. I only have eight toes. So, I’m pretty sure I understand."

Wohlauer told Sanders that the blood pressure near his ankle has worsened since 2022 and is now only yielding 66% of the blood pressure compared to the rest of his body.

Sanders – who was one of the fastest NFL players ever – explained that he has no feeling on the bottom of his left foot. The two-time Super Bowl champion urged the doctors to perform any procedures in the near future because he'll be busy once the college football season begins.

"I just want to know what we could do because I want to do it this summer," he explained. "When we get rolling, I’m not gonna have time to do it."

Prime Time's first game as Colorado's head coach is Sept. 2 at Texas Christian University.

Sanders wrote on Instagram, "As you know I’ve faced some medical challenges with my foot but I’ve never said 'WHY ME' – I keep moving forward, progressing . . . See you never know what a person may be going through while I sit in your seat of judgement but you can trust and believe that we are all going through something – just keep the faith and know that if He brought you to it, He will bring you through it . . I'm CoachPrime and I'm built for this."

Sanders declared that he has "full trust" in his medical team. He also stressed his religious faith, "More importantly I have full trust in Jesus!"

Study Shows Oral Birth Control Greatly Raises Risk Of Depression For Women

A new international study provides conclusive results to a growing body of research linking oral birth control and depression.

Al Roker hospitalized for blood clots in his legs and lungs

Longtime TV meteorologist Al Roker revealed on Friday that he suffers from blood clots in his legs and lungs that forced him to be hospitalized.

Roker, 68, was admitted to the hospital after being diagnosed with the concerning health issue.

"So many of you have been thoughtfully asking where I’ve been," Roker wrote in a post on Instagram on Friday morning. "Last week I was admitted to the hospital with a blood clot in my leg which sent some clots into my lungs."

"After some medical whack-a-mole, I am so fortunate to be getting terrific medical care and on the way to recovery," he said. "Thanks for all the well wishes and prayers and hope to see you soon. Have a great weekend, everyone."

Roker's "Today" show colleagues wished him a speedy recovery.

Savannah Guthrie said, "You're the strongest person we know. We miss you and will see you soon."

Craig Melvin wrote, "Love you brother…can’t wait to have you back!"

According to the Mayo Clinic: "Blood clots form when certain parts of your blood thicken, forming a semisolid mass. This process may be triggered by an injury or it can sometimes occur inside blood vessels that don't have an obvious injury. Once these clots form, they can travel to other parts of your body, causing harm."

Roker – who has been the "Today" show meteorologist since 1996 – battled against weight issues. He underwent gastric bypass surgery in March 2002. By the end of that year, Roker had lost a whopping 100 pounds.

This past June, Roker said that he had dropped an additional 45 pounds. He credited daily walks and eating fewer carbohydrates for his weight loss.

"Exercise, and not extreme exercise — we’re doing that 30-day walking challenge — that improves, I think, your mental health, combined with a low-carb diet," Roker explained. "I’ve lost about 45 pounds in the last several months. I do about 100 grams of carbs a day and I walk."

Roker has been a proponent of the Start Today Walking Challenge, which encourages people to get out and take regular walks to stay healthy.

Roker had previously been diagnosed with prostate cancer in November 2020. He underwent a five-hour surgery, in which his prostate and surrounding tissue and lymph nodes were removed by doctors.

"I really feel good. I was very fortunate. We caught it early. It was an aggressive form of prostate cancer, but we caught it very early," Roker said during a February 2021 appearance on the "Kelly Clarkson Show." "I had a great surgeon from Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Vincent Laudone. He feels we got it all."

"I'm waiting for bloodwork and once my PSA level is, like, below .05 that means there’s no prostate cancer at this moment," the popular weatherman told Kelly Clarkson. "I went public with [my diagnosis] because — it’s a simple test, but a lot of guys, you know, we’re wimpy. We don’t like going to the doctor. And this is an easy to test to do."
