Alarming police bodycam video shows 'street takeover' where officer 'narrowly escaped line-of-duty death scenario'

Virginia police recently released shocking bodycam video of a chaotic "street takeover" that left one officer injured.

Around 3 a.m. on March 31, hundreds gathered to watch drivers perform donuts and drive recklessly at a car meetup in Springfield, Virginia.

However, the car display resulted in "utter chaos and disorder."

The Fairfax County Police said, "A large group of individuals surrounded the officer’s cruiser. At least one attempted to remove the license plate from the vehicle as the others acted disorderly."

Unruly people reportedly jumped on police cruisers and slammed on the windows of the vehicles.

Law enforcement stated that one man was outside a police vehicle armed with a rifle.

A driver allegedly struck a police officer with their vehicle and then fled the scene.

The officer reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Fairfax County Police Chief Kevin Davis stated, "I believe we narrowly escaped a line-of-duty death scenario of our own. Because one of our officers was surrounded by a bunch of masked, tough-guy-wannabe-thugs who surrounded her car, and acted in a criminal manner, in a way that I’ll tell you is never going to happen again in Fairfax County."

Davis commended the officer for exhibiting "a ton of grace under pressure in that very volatile scenario."

"So, what does that mean for residential and business communities? It means you didn't have any cops protecting your neighborhoods, your communities, your businesses because these criminals diverted all of our attention to handle an attack on one of our police officers," Davis declared.

Davis said he believes that the mob "fully intended to drag" a female police officer out of her car and harm her.

He added, "Thankfully, they didn’t get into the car, and we’re very grateful for that."

According to law enforcement, four individuals have been criminally charged in the scary incident.

The suspected hit-and-run driver was identified as 18-year-old Ronal Urrea-Hernandez, according to WTTG. Police have allegedly obtained a warrant for his arrest for felony hit-and-run, speed to elude, and not possessing an operator's license.

Carlos A. Martinez Jr., 18, was arrested and charged with reckless driving after he drove down the wrong side of the road and crashed into a cruiser, according to the outlet.

Authorities are also investigating 20-year-old Dylan Heckard, of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. He is accused of assault on law enforcement and abduction for jumping on the police cruiser and preventing the officer from leaving.

A 17-year-old has been charged, but his identity is being withheld because he is a minor.

Davis declared, "We’re not going to be caught in a situation again where it’s one of us versus dozens of them who want to do us harm."

'You're gonna get shot!' Intense bodycam video shows deputy shoot, kill Florida man while hanging onto runaway car

Distressing police bodycam video shows the moment that a sheriff's deputy shot and killed a Florida man with a violent criminal history. The officer was hanging onto the runaway car as the suspect attempted to make a desperate getaway.

Around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Pasco County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Howell approached the vehicle of 40-year-old Paul Smith that was parked at a 7-Eleven in Hudson — roughly 40 miles north of Tampa, Florida. Smith, who has a violent criminal history, was reportedly linked to a battery-by-strangulation case.

Police bodycam footage shows Smith seemingly befuddled by being asked to step out of his vehicle by the sheriff's deputy.

Smith asked the officer, "What's going on? What's the problem?"

Smith then feverishly used his car keys to start his vehicle and make a quick getaway.

Deputy Howell commanded Smith to get out of the car numerous times, but the suspect continued to try to flee the scene. Howell attempted to wrestle Smith out of the vehicle, but wasn't able to.

Smith was able to start the vehicle and began to drive away with Howell dangling from the open door of the vehicle.

The officer used a stun gun to try to subdue the suspect several times in the back and the neck, but it did nothing to stop Smith.

In the bodycam video, the tires of the car can be heard screeching and the engine is loudly revving as Smith tries to make a frantic escape.

Howell warned the suspect, "You're going to get f***ing shot!"

Howell warned Smith five times that he will get shot if he did not stop the vehicle.

The suspect did not comply, and the officer shot Smith in the back.

Smith was seen in the video losing consciousness and then slumping over to the passenger seat.

The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said Howell was able to take control of the vehicle. He allegedly performed first aid on the suspect, but Smith succumbed to his gunshot injury and died.

The Tampa Bay Times reported, "Pasco records show several criminal convictions against a Paul Smith in that county, including battery and drug charges. Smith was convicted in 2019 of fleeing law enforcement by car, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and hit-and-run, and served three years in state prison."

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting to determine whether it was justified or not.

Pasco County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Col. Jeff Harrington defended Howell’s actions as necessary.

Sheriff's office releases bodycam video of deputy shooting allegedly armed man running from traffic stop in Chicago

A police officer shot an allegedly armed man who fled a traffic stop Wednesday in Chicago. On Thursday, the Cook County Sheriff's Office released bodycam footage of the incident after the man's family disputed that he had a gun.

Cook County Sheriff's deputies pulled over a driver for speeding in Chicago's LeClaire Courts neighborhood at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle is said to be missing a front license plate and had illegally tinted windows, as reported in the Chicago Sun-Times.

The driver stopped, opened his door, but refused to exit the vehicle. He then allegedly drove off and turned down an alley. He abandoned his car and fled on foot. The Cook County Sheriff's Office alleges that the man had something in his hand, and dropped a black cellphone while fleeing police.

The man, identified as Durel Foster, reportedly ignored deputies' commands to stop. Bodycam footage appears to show Foster, 27, brandishing a handgun as defies orders and runs past cops.

After Foster runs past one of the police officers with what looks like a firearm, the cop fires four shots at the man. Foster was hit by two shots, one struck him in the shoulder and the other in the buttocks. Foster falls to the ground, sits back up, then flails back down.

Deputies claim that Foster resisted arrest after being shot, and ran to a nearby porch. Foster was eventually taken into custody after a police officer used a Taser on him.

He was handcuffed, arrested, and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he is said to be in good condition. The Cook County Sheriff's Office claims a handgun and bags of suspected cocaine were found near Foster.

Foster's father, Maurice Foster, said, "Police stopped him because of the way he looked."

"He's a young Black man, he had nice jewelry on, nice clothes," Maurice Foster said. "They didn't even tell me when they put him in the ambulance, he was already shot twice and tased, he had the handcuffs on ... and they put him in the ambulance for 10 minutes."

The father denied that his son was armed and disputes that he had a gun during the incident.

"I can't see real good from the footage," he told the Chicago Sun-Times. "I can't see what's in his hand. I see him toss a bag. It goes by real fast, and it's blurry also."

The father said he hasn't been able to speak with his son since the arrest. He added that his son is "an excellent basketball player, he's smart, he's intelligent, he's respectful, and he's good to his family."

Cook County Sheriff's Office said the suspect had three prior felony convictions, including aggravated battery on a police officer in 2018, according to the New York Post. He was sentenced to four years in prison and had been on parole in Illinois at the time of Wednesday's arrest.

Chicago police are conducting an independent investigation into the shooting.
