Male wielding 2 knives caught on police bodycam video jumping from window, running at cop, stabbing officer

Police in Amherst, New York, earlier this month responded to a 911 call for a domestic violence-related incident in the 4800 block of North Bailey Avenue, officials said. Amherst is about 20 minutes northeast of Buffalo.

Police on Thursday released bodycam video showing what happened after officers arrived at the residence in question around 5 p.m. July 12.

Bodycam video also shows the officers attending to the suspect's wounds and one of the officers bleeding from his left arm.

Video appears to show a male jumping out of a window from the rear of the house:

Video then shows the male running toward one of the officers armed with a knife in each hand, WIVB-TV reported.

Amherst Police Chief Scott Chamberlin told the station that the suspect was upon the officer "within two seconds."

Police said 26-year-old Rayquell M. Grant stabbed Amherst Police Officer Aidan Vangelov twice — once in the shoulder and once in the arm, WIVB reported.

Officer Vangelov and another responding officer, Lt. Matthew Lobuglio, opened fire on Grant, police said, adding that a taser was initially deployed but didn’t connect.

Officer Vangelov was treated for stab wounds to his arm at the Erie County Medical Center, and Grant was taken to the same facility for gunshot wounds to his chest and arm, officials told WIVB in a separate story.

"My office conducted a thorough review of the officer-involved shooting," Erie County District Attorney Mike Keane said in a statement, according to the station. "We have determined that the actions of the police officers were justified. The members of the Amherst Police Department who fired the shots that resulted in injuries to the defendant have been cleared of any criminal wrongdoing."

Grant was charged Friday with first-degree attempted murder, first-degree attempted assault, and second-degree assault in connection with the incident, officials added to WIVB.

Grant allegedly was wanted for failure to appear in court on a pending domestic violence-related case before the incident unfolded, officials added to the station.

Grant was being held without bail, WIVB said, adding that the charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Officer meets machete-wielding male running at her with a little more firepower, just-released bodycam video shows

The Houston Police Department last week released bodycam video showing officers pursuing and shooting a male armed with a machete on May 16.

Police received a call around 3:25 p.m. from a Family Dollar in the 5100 block of Almeda Road regarding a male who stole items from the store — and then threatened employees while brandishing a knife while on the way out, KPRC-TV reported.

'Stop! Put your hands up!'

The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Earnest Duke Harrison, the station said.

Officers encountered Harrison at the Southmore Boulevard bridge over Highway 288, KPRC said.

The department's video includes bodycam clips from three officers. The officers pursued the suspect from both ends of the bridge.

The officer closest to Harrison runs toward him while yelling, "Stop! Put your hands up!" But Harrison keeps running toward the officer while holding the machete aloft in his right hand.

The officer — whom police identified as Officer L. Jumonji — fired at Harrison and hit him, the station said.

The officer who opened fire as well as other officers are seen on the bridge rendering aid to the suspect. After they roll the suspect on his back, one officer notices the suspect suffered a "gunshot in the head." By the end of the bodycam video, five officers are seen on the bridge.

Paramedics took Harrison to the hospital in critical condition, KPRC said, adding that the officer who shot the suspect was not hurt.

Doctors pronounced Harrison dead on May 20, the station said.

Police told KPRC that Officer Jumonji has been with the department since December 2021.

“As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the Houston city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit, the Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office,” police added to the station.

Blaze News on Monday asked an employee at the Family Dollar in question for comment about the robbery, but the employee said, "We're not able to talk about any of that," as the matter is "still under investigation."

Intense police bodycam video captures shootout with suspect who's later charged with attempted murder of 2 officers

Intense bodycam video Milwaukee police released last week captures a July 17 shootout between cops and a suspect who was later charged with attempted murder of two officers, WISN-TV reported.

On July 16 — the day before the shootout — 22-year-old Jayuntae Gregory shot two family members in their home, hitting one victim eight times in the body and wounding the other victim two times in the chest, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported, citing a criminal complaint. The victims were hospitalized in critical condition, the paper said.

'Please don't kill [my] baby ... he shot my two cousins ... there he go.'

Police interviewed two of Gregory's brothers and his father, the paper said, adding that one of the brothers said Gregory fired a "Draco"-style rifle inside the house and that he suffered from mental health issues. The brother added to police that as Gregory ran out of the house, he told him he had "killed" the two family members, the Journal-Sentinel noted.

The criminal complaint included details about the next day's shootout at a gas station store located in the 4300 block of West Capitol Drive, the paper said. WISN said police received a call from the suspect's family reporting that he was at the location.

Gregory was inside the gas station store buying two bottles of water when officers arrived outside and encountered his father, who told officers, "Please don't kill [my] baby ... he shot my two cousins ... there he go," the Journal-Sentinel noted.

Officers shouted for Gregory to drop his bag and put his hands up, but instead he walked to the front door and asked, "Me?" the paper reported.

Gregory then retrieved the AK-47-type rifle from his backpack and took cover behind the store's merchandise, the Journal-Sentinel said.

Two officers entered the store and told Gregory to show his hands, but instead Gregory fired at the officers multiple times, prompting the officers to retreat, the paper said.

Gregory opened the door multiple times, the Journal-Sentinel reported.

Separate surveillance video outside the store shows the suspect just after the 10-minute mark appearing to exit the store and firing at officers.

The paper said officers shot Gregory when he attempted to run out of the store.

The suspect was arrested and taken to a hospital for treatment of nonfatal injuries, WISN said.

Gregory was charged with four counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide, one count of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, one count of failure to comply with officers, and one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, the paper reported.

His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 16 when a doctor's report on his competency to stand trial is scheduled to be returned, the Journal-Sentinel said.

The officers were placed on administrative duty, WISN said.

You can view police bodycam video of the incident below. The suspect appears to fire shots at officers inside the store just after the 1:35 mark; the suspect appears to fire shots at officers while making a break from the store's front door just after the 7:35 mark. Content warning: Language:

Anything else?

The paper added that when Gregory was 17, he was arrested in connection with a 2019 armed robbery at a restaurant, and he pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to two years of prison and four years of extended supervision, the Journal-Sentinel reported, citing state court records.
