DeSantis will reportedly announce presidential bid during Wednesday Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is slated to announce a presidential bid during a Wednesday evening Twitter Spaces with billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk, according to reports.

"BREAKING: @FoxNews confirms Florida Governor @RonDeSantis will announce his 2024 Presidential run tomorrow night, 6pm ET in a Twitter Spaces interview with @elonmusk," Bill Melugin of Fox News tweeted.

Musk retweeted Melugin's post.

Florida first lady Casey DeSantis tweeted a Fox News article that reported her husband will announce his candidacy Wednesday during a talk with Musk on the social media platform. When sharing the article she wrote, "Big if true..." along with a smiling emoji.

The Twitter Spaces event will reportedly be moderated by David Sacks.

While speaking remotely for the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council Summit, Musk noted that he is not planning to endorse a specific candidate, according to the Journal. CNN reported that Musk said that he does not plan to endorse someone "at this time."

But when asked last year whether he would support DeSantis for president in 2024, Musk replied in the affirmative.

"My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far," Musk tweeted in November.

"Would you support Ron DeSantis in 2024, Elon?" someone replied.

"Yes," Musk responded.

Back in July 2022, Musk suggested that DeSantis could defeat President Joe Biden without even campaigning.

"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America. If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn't even need to campaign," Musk wrote.

DeSantis will be jumping into a GOP primary field that already includes former President Donald Trump, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, author and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and Larry Elder.

DeSantis, who soundly defeated Democratic opponent Charlie Crist during the Sunshine State's 2022 gubernatorial contest, has long been viewed as a figure who might jump into the presidential contest.

Trump has been taking shots at the Florida governor for months and referring to him as "DeSanctimonious."

'You got into a fight': LA councilman argues with CNN anchor over refusal to resign

A very active week has continued for Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de León, who found himself debating CNN anchor Kate Bolduan about whether or not he should resign over remarks he made during a meeting in which he compared another council member's child to a handbag.

Recently, de León also got into a full-blown fight with an activist named Jason Reedy, who confronted the politician at a Christmas tree lighting event.

The Californian's verbal sparring match with the CNN anchor quickly got to the point, with the presenter asking him why he won't resign, as two other council members who made comments in the same meeting have since stepped down and a third lost his seat in an election.

“Let me say this, Kate, and let me be very clear about this: In a democracy voters make the decision, not folks who are in the peanut gallery, or political pundits, or even my own colleagues,” de León affirmed.

The councilman said he plans to return to work and will always be sorry for his statements, commenting that he, like many Americans, does not have the luxury of quitting his job simply because he does not like one of his co-workers.

“Tens of millions of Americans go to work every single day with folks that they don’t like. But you know what they do? They get up and they go to work," he remarked. "They don’t have the luxury that some folks do when they want to walk out,” he declared.

However, during the interview, de León didn't exactly own up to his statements, rejecting the notion that he said that his colleague was using her child as an accessory. Rather, the councilman claimed it was simply a criticism on the fellow council member's affinity for handbags.

“I shouldn’t have said what I said, because it actually was a comment, I was criticizing, actually, Councilwoman Nury Martinez for her penchant for luxury handbags,” he attempted to clarify.

Regarding his recent scuffle, de León stood on his progressive policies in defense of his character.

"That's not the person who I am," he explained.

"I have a body and a history of progressive policies that have improved the human condition for all individuals, regardless of who you are," he continued. "I will continue to serve my voters; they will make the ultimate decision," he concluded.

Elon Musk says that 'it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset' — then Trump fires back

Elon Musk said that "it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset" after the former president called him "another bullshit artist” during a weekend rally in Alaska.

"I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset. Dems should also call off the attack – don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the Presidency," Musk tweeted.

Musk recently said he voted Republican for the first time when he voted for Texas Rep. Mayra Flores — who last month flipped a seat in a historically Democrat region along the southern border. But Trump said that Musk "told me he voted for me, so he’s another bullshit artist.”

Musk also said "Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America," and added, "If [Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R)] runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn’t even need to campaign."

In response, Trump took to Truth Social to blast the Tesla CEO and his "many subsidized projects, whether it’s electric cars that don’t drive long enough, driverless cars that crash, or rocketships to nowhere."

"I could have said, ‘drop to your knees and beg,’ and he would have done it,” Trump wrote.

The former president next pivoted to Twitter's lawsuit against Musk filed Tuesday to force the billionaire entrepreneur to follow through on his $44 billion deal to acquire the platform. “Now Elon should focus on getting himself out of the Twitter mess because he could owe $44 billion for something that’s perhaps worthless,” Trump wrote. “Also, lots of competition for electric cars!” he added.

Musk responded to the controversy over his decision to pull out of his Twitter deal on Monday by tweeting a meme with himself laughing about the platform's refusal to disclose "bot info" and how the company will be now forced to do so by its own lawsuit.

"They said I couldn’t buy Twitter. Then they wouldn’t disclose bot info. Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court. Now they have to disclose bot info in court," the meme says.

'More and more people are encouraging me to consider' a presidential bid, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan says

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan told CBS News that "More and more people are encouraging" him to contemplate a White House bid.

"More and more people are encouraging me to consider it," the governor said, according to CBS News. "There's a diminishing number of folks that are wanting the former President Trump to run. There's a growing number of people that are looking for our kind of successful, bigger-tent politics."

Hogan is a Republican who entered office in 2015, won re-election in 2018, and will leave office in early January 2023.

"Great crowd tonight for our @NoLabelsOrg event at the Puritan Backroom in Manchester to kick off our New Hampshire visit. Americans are fed up with politics-as-usual and want to move in a different direction," Hogan tweeted on Monday.

"Enjoyed meeting with the New Hampshire Investment Board of Realtors to hear about the challenges they’re facing in this economy and discuss how we can get the national inflation crisis under control," he tweeted on Tuesday.

Hogan told Fox News that his decision about whether to run for president will be based on if he sees a path to win — he said that he will not "go on a wild goose chase or a suicide mission."

Former President Donald Trump is widely expected to run for president again, so if Hogan decides to launch a White House bid, he would likely need to defeat Trump in order to secure the GOP nomination.

During an appearance on "Meet the Press," Hogan said that he is "hopeful" that Trump will not run and that Trump will not become the Republican nominee in the event that he does run again.

Billionaire Elon Musk opined in a tweet on Monday that if Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and President Joe Biden were to face off in 2024, DeSantis would "easily win" and would not "even need to campaign."

Biden has indicated that he plans to run again as long as he has "good health."

DeSantis has not announced a presidential bid, but is seeking re-election this year in Florida's gubernatorial contest.

Last month, Musk announced that he had voted for Republican Mayra Flores, the candidate who won a special election for Texas's 34th Congressional District. "I voted for Mayra Flores – first time I ever voted Republican. Massive red wave in 2022," Musk tweeted. He also noted that he was leaning towards supporting DeSantis for president.

The Republican governor has not announced plans for a 2024 presidential bid, but he is seeking re-election in Florida's 2022 gubernatorial contest. Last month, DeSantis responded to Musk's comments by noting that he is "focused on 2022," and adding, "I welcome support from African Americans." Elon Musk was born in South Africa.

Trump recently called Musk "another bulls[***] artist," claiming that Musk had told him that he voted for him.

Musk tweeted on Monday that Trump's claim is "Not true."

Trump is widely expected to mount another White House bid.

President Joe Biden, who is the oldest president in U.S. history, has said that he plans to seek re-election as long as he has "good health." If he were to run and win re-election, Biden would be 86 years old by the end of his second term.

The progressive group RootsAction plans to wage a campaign to prevent Biden from becoming the 2024 Democratic presidential nominee.

"We're making this announcement today because the current debate over whether Biden should run again focuses too narrowly on his age and the latest polls," RootsAction cofounder Jeff Cohen said, according to a Monday press release. "It's his performance -- his inability to fight for working people and stand up against Republican and corporate obstruction -- that has us worried about 2024."
