Broadcasting legend Charles Osgood dies at 91

TV and radio broadcasting legend Charles Osgood passed away at the age of 91, according to CBS News, which reported that his family indicated that dementia was the cause of his death.

Osgood is widely known for anchoring "CBS Sunday Morning" for more than two decades. He was a fixture on the radio for more than four decades.

"To say there's no one like Charles Osgood is an understatement," noted "Sunday Morning" executive producer Rand Morrison, according to CBS News. "He embodied the heart and soul of 'Sunday Morning.' His signature bow tie, his poetry … just his presence was special for the audience, and for those of us who worked with him. At the piano, Charlie put our lives to music. Truly, he was one of a kind – in every sense."

CBS News noted that Jane Pauley, who became the host of "CBS Sunday Morning" when Osgood departed in 2016, said, "Watching him at work was a masterclass in communicating. I'll still think to myself, 'How would Charlie say it?', trying to capture the elusive warmth and intelligence of his voice and delivery. I expect I'll go on trying. He was one of the best broadcast stylists and one of the last. His style was so natural and unaffected it communicated his authenticity. He connected with people. Watching him on TV, or listening on the radio, as I did for years, was to feel like you knew him, and he knew you. He brought a unique sensibility, curiosity and his trademark whimsy to 'Sunday Morning,' and it endures."

Osgood was the voice of the narrator on the animated 2008 movie, "Horton Hears a Who!"

Former MLB broadcaster claims he was BLACKLISTED for being a 'white, male Republican'

Being a white, male conservative today is equivalent to putting a giant “kick me” sign on your back, or at least that’s been Ryan Spaeder’s experience.

Spaeder has a long list of career achievements. Perhaps most notable are his contributions to Major League Baseball, specifically as a broadcaster and as a writer.

However, despite his dedication to the sport, he claims he’s “been blackballed by Major League Baseball” due to his gender, race, and political views.

“I am not welcome any more,” he tells Stu Burguiere.

Despite his ousting, Spaeder refuses to conform for the sake of acceptance.

“I’m not going to bend the knee; it’s not me,” he says.

But his courage has not been without cost.

“I have 62,000 followers, [but] it's probably cost me double that. It’s cost me jobs. I got fired by the Athletic before I even started there,” he says.

“Because of your political views?” Stu asks.

“That’s my perception,” says Spaeder, but “of course, they said, ‘it's because we overestimated our need for help,’ but then they went and hired somebody else.”

Major League Baseball “is a foundational part of American culture. They should be accepting of people on the right [and] people on the left. … Politics shouldn't invade baseball, but we've turned that completely upside down, I think to the sport's detriment and certainly to the country’s detriment,” says Stu.

Radio broadcaster indefinitely suspended for 'illegal aliens' comment

Radio broadcaster Gary Hahn has been indefinitely suspended after mentioning "illegal aliens" during a broadcast.

While covering Duke's Mayo Bowl on Friday, Hahn gave the score of the Sun Bowl, saying that "amongst all the illegal aliens" in El Paso, the game stood at UCLA with 14 and Pittsburgh with 6.

"Learfield has suspended Wolfpack Sports Network play-by-play announcer Gary Hahn from his agreement indefinitely following comments made during today’s Duke’s Mayo Bowl radio broadcast," Wolfpack Sports Properties general manager Kyle Winchester noted in a statement relayed by NC State, according to newsobserver.com

El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser declared a state of emergency earlier this month as the area grappled with an influx of migrants, according to CNN.

"The City and OEM continue sending roving teams to the various areas where migrants are congregating to provide transportation services and/or temporary shelter. The City has initiated the use of three (3) hotels to use as emergency shelter hotels to ensure individuals and families are able to get off the streets and out of the freezing temperatures," a December 20 government press release noted. "The City and OEM are also preparing the use of the El Paso Convention Center to expand shelter services later this week."

Sun Bowl Association executive director Bernie Olivas announced that the Fan Fiesta was cancelled, mentioning the use of the convention center for migrants — the festivities had been slated to occur at the El Paso Convention Center.

"As the Tony the Tiger Fan Fiesta presented by El Paso LIVE was cancelled due to the humanitarian efforts that are currently being held in the El Paso Convention Center, the Sun Bowl Association is now hosting the Battle of the Bands and other events from the Fan Fiesta at Freedom Crossing beginning at 4 p.m. (MT) on Thursday, Dec. 29," the Sun Bowl Association noted.
