Mob of 30 teens on bicycles caught on video brutally beating up, robbing lone man in street: 'This is what LA has come to'

A mob of about 30 teenagers on bicycles were caught on video brutally beating up and robbing a lone man in downtown Los Angeles earlier this month, KTLA-TV reported.

You can view the station's video report — which includes cellphone video of the attack and an interview with the victim — here.

The station said a witness captured video of what happened next: The mob of teens assaulted Uulu, stole his property — including his backpack and wallet — from his vehicle, shattered the car's windows, and repeatedly stomped on the vehicle's hood and trunk.

Shailoobek Bazarbai Uulu told KTLA he was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Olympic Boulevard and Hope Street on Aug. 2 when the group pulled in front of his vehicle.

When the light turned green, Uulu told the station he attempted to pass them when "one of them threw a bottle of water in my car. So, I don’t know what happened.”

Uulu then pulled over and exited his car, after which he said the group surrounded him, KTLA reported.

The station said a witness captured video of what happened next: The mob of teens assaulted Uulu, stole his property — including his backpack and wallet — from his vehicle, shattered the car's windows, and repeatedly stomped on the vehicle's hood and trunk.

“This is what L.A. has come to,” the man recording video of the incident was heard saying, KTLA reported. “Dog, I’m not even playing. I literally just parked. These kids are wild, not older than 20.”

The station said Uulu could be seen barefoot and limping as the teens pushed and punched him in the back of his head.

In the end, Uulu suffered a broken leg — which will require surgery — as well as deep cuts all over his body after getting kicked and punched while on the ground, KTLA said.

“Suddenly, someone pulled me out, and she literally saved my life,” Uulu told the station. “It was a young lady [who took] me aside ...”

KTLA added that a few adults — including the witness who recorded the video — tried to stop the attack and get the teens to leave the area; traffic was backed up as a result of the attack.

'It’s a been a week, and no one has been arrested.'

Uulu told the station he’d been planning on moving, which is why many of his belongings were in his car — but many of those possessions are now gone, including documents, cash, and credit cards.

The victim told KTLA he did nothing to provoke the attack, but one of the teens in the clip can be heard telling the witness who was recording that Uulu cut them off with his car and nearly hit them.

As you might guess, the teen attackers all fled the area by the time police arrived, the station said, adding that Uulu was taken to a hospital.

“It’s a been a week, and no one has been arrested,” he noted to KTLA. “They stole my bank cards, and they even tried to use it a few days later.”

Uulu also told the station the teens caused $20,000 worth of damage to his car. A GoFundMe for the victim has raised over $11,000 as of Monday afternoon.

“I am alone here and never thought that I could find myself in such a situation,” he added to KTLA.

Those with information about the attack can call LAPD’s Central Station at 213-486-6606, and those wishing to remain anonymous can call the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or leave tips online at www.lacrimestoppers.org, the station said.

11-year-old girl charged with aggravated battery after 8 to 10 youths brutally beat up 63-year-old man on Chicago train

An 11-year-old girl was arrested and charged with felony aggravated battery of a victim 60 or older and felony robbery of a victim 60 or older after eight to 10 youths brutally beat up a 63-year-old man on a Chicago train earlier this month.

In addition to the girl, four other juveniles and an 18-year-old woman have been arrested and charged in connection with the attack on the Chicago Transit Authority train, WFLD-TV reported.

'They were like, 'Oh, you're trying to start something with us!' Then it was like I was literally running through a gauntlet of fists.'

The victim, Michael Manning, told the station he was keeping to himself after a 12-hour workday and looking forward to getting home when the youths — which consisted of males and females — targeted him after they boarded his train at the LaSalle/Van Buren stop after 11 p.m. July 8.

"I knew right away that this was not going to go well, no matter what I said or did," Manning told the station. "I stood up, and I’m 6’4" and I guess that was not a good move because I immediately got punched in the back of the head, which sent me forward into the group. They were like, ‘Oh, you're trying to start something with us!’ Then it was like I was literally running through a gauntlet of fists."

Manning called the attack "surreal" in an interview with WFLD — which you can view here — and said he "was just so shocked. I think I kind of went numb."

"They just pounded on me, and I knew I had to get off this car to, like, not die," he added to the station.

Manning told WFLD he exited the train one stop later — but the group followed him and continued beating him up, leaving him bloodied on the platform before they jumped back on the train. Manning's right ear and right cheek were bloody, and he suffered a black eye on his right eye, according to photos he shared with the station. He told WFLD they stole only a few of his belongings, including his debit card.

"I don't understand how you can have this type of lawlessness and wanton disrespect, disregard for basic humanity," Manning added to the station. "And there's no checks and balances anywhere."

Who else was arrested?

Among the other arrestees are a 16-year-old male who got cuffed Monday in the 1700 block of South State Street, WFLD reported, adding that he was charged with felony robbery of a victim 60 or older and felony aggravated battery of a victim 60 or older.

A 15-year-old female and two other males — ages 14 and 16 — were arrested Tuesday in the 7000 block of South Cottage Avenue, the station said, adding that all three were hit with the same charges: felony robbery of a victim 60 or older and felony aggravated battery of a victim 60 or older.

Tamia Washington, 18, was arrested Wednesday in the 1700 block of South State Street, WFLD said, adding that she was charged with one felony count of robbery of a victim 60 or older and that her detention hearing was scheduled for Thursday.

Police urge anyone with information to contact the Chicago Police Department's Mass Transit detectives at 312-745-4447, the station said, adding that anonymous tips can be submitted to CPDtip.com.

Thug brutally beats older, smaller deli worker — and keeps kicking victim's bloody face even after he's motionless on floor

A male was caught on surveillance video brutally beating a much older and significantly smaller deli worker in New York City earlier this month — and the clip actually shows the attacker continuing to kick the victim's bloody face even after he's motionless and crumpled on the floor, apparently out cold.

You can view surveillance video of the attack at the Queens deli here. The deeply disturbing clip shows the attacker punching the victim at least 11 times — and kicking him in the face and head at least 13 times.

Police added to the New York Post that the suspect — heavily tattooed with skulls and a heart and the word 'KILLER' in all capital letters — has 25 prior arrests, mostly for robbery.

Perhaps worst of all is that after the attacker's third kick, the victim appeared motionless and unconscious; so the final 10 kicks to the victim's progressively bloody face likely happened after he was already out cold and totally defenseless.

The victim's son told WABC-TV last week that his father was in critical condition at Elmhurst Hospital with internal brain bleeding and a fractured face; the son added to the station that "there's a certain part of his bones that are detached from a very important part of his face."

The brutal assault took place June 17 around 11:20 p.m. at the shop on 64th Street and Broadway in the neighborhood of Woodside, WABC said, adding that it boiled over after the victim confronted the attacker who bumped into him.

Nearby residents told the station they recognize the suspect, who sports green hair in the video.

"Once you mentioned the green hair I knew I saw him because everybody looks at him. Everybody crosses the street when they see him. He's weird. He's definitely weird," one resident noted to WABC.

Another resident added to the station that the suspect frequently talks to himself and comes out at night.

The victim's son told WABC his dad is a "genuinely nice guy."

"He's kind of old fashioned where he talks to random strangers," he told the station of his father. "I know it sounds cliche, but he is the type of person to help out like a random person."

Suspect arrested

Police on Wednesday arrested a suspect after a standoff with police, authorities told amNY.

The outlet, citing police, reported that 29-year-old Osvel Diaz of Forest Hills attempted to shave his green hair to give law enforcement the slip.

According to amNY, the victim in the attack is 62 years old — and the outlet noted that it all went down at the Sunnyside Mini Market. The outlet said the victim's condition — initially critical — has improved slightly.

Detectives and the NYPD Warrant Squad tracked down Diaz at his home on 62nd Drive, amNY said, adding that he allegedly put up a fight.

More from the outlet:

Sources familiar with the investigation said that Diaz briefly barricaded himself inside the home along with a three-week-old baby. Following a brief standoff, however, police were able to take him into custody and rescue the tot, who was not injured.

Detectives escorted a handcuffed Diaz out of the 108th Precinct in Long Island City on Thursday morning. He refused to answer questions hurled at him by journalists before being loaded into a waiting police car en route to Queens Criminal Court for his arraignment.

Diaz is charged with attempted murder, assault, and endangering the welfare of a child, amNY reported.

Police added to the New York Post that the suspect — heavily tattooed with skulls and a heart and the word “KILLER” in all capital letters — has 25 prior arrests, mostly for robbery.

More from the Post:

Diaz’s most recent bust before this one was for a broad-daylight assault of a UPS driver on Sept. 1, 2023 in Astoria, according to a complaint filed in Queens Criminal Court.

He is accused of throwing a metal canister at the driver’s side window of the truck — shattering it — before getting out and bashing the motorist in the head with the container, according to the court doc.

Diaz pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was granted a conditional discharge in that case, according to the Queens DA’s Office.

He was required to complete six days of an anger management course as part of the plea agreement, prosecutors said.

Cops arrest female suspected of brutally beating pair of women in store while crying child with attacker begged, 'Stop it!'

Police have arrested a female suspected of brutally beating a pair of women in an Omaha, Nebraska, convenience store last month while a crying child with the attacker begged, "Stop it!"

Police told Blaze News they arrested Zarria Nichols, 26, on Friday in connection with the Feb. 16 attacks caught on surveillance video. Nichols was criminally cited for two counts of third-degree assault, two counts of criminal mischief, and one count of child abuse/neglect, police said, adding that all the charges are misdemeanors.

What's the background?

KETV-TV reported that the suspect in the attacks entered the Mega Saver at 144th and Blondo Streets with a little girl just after 5 p.m. and requested "an iPhone charger for a car."

The chargers were along the wall, the station said.

KETV said the suspect was there for a while, after which a conflict arose over buying the charger. "I'll pay for it, that's cool, but if it doesn't work in my car, can I return it?" she asked, according to the station.

There was a mix-up, and the female got upset, KETV said. "I feel like I'm being discriminated because y'all think I don't know what y'all saying, and that pisses me off," the female stated, according to the station.

KETV indicated that the suspect started swearing, which upset a couple of customers, and a yelling argument ensued — and the little girl in pink with the suspect started crying.

Soon the female suspect physically attacked one of the women, hitting her in the face at least three times.

The station said the suspect yelled profanities at the other customer. The suspect loudly asked, "You wanna get smacked, too?"

With that, the suspect slapped the retreating customer in the head from behind and then shoved her into a display, after which the victim fell to the floor as items flew off shelves.

The suspect then walked over to the little girl, grabbed her hand, and appeared to begin to the leave the store — but she made a detour over to the victim she had just knocked to the floor and physically attacked her again.

As the crying little girl screamed for the suspect to "stop it!" the suspect attempted to stomp the victim, who had raised up her foot up to protect herself — and then the suspect walked out the door with the little girl.

But it still wasn't over.

After placing the child in a car, the suspect actually came back into the store and went after the already beaten woman on the floor, who yelled out, "Oh no! Here she comes again!"

The suspect replied over and over, "What'd you say? What'd you say?" as she hit and stomped and threw objects at the victim's head before finally leaving for good.

What else?

Police told Blaze News that several tipsters identified Nichols as the suspect, and she turned herself in after police ran video of the incident. While Nichols was criminally cited, police said she wasn't booked into jail.

Police added to Blaze News that Nichols has a record consisting of various misdemeanor charges and traffic violations. Douglas County Courts told Blaze News that Nichols is scheduled for a May 3 hearing.

Thug who beat elderly woman so badly that she can't walk, speak, or recognize her husband of more than 50 years is sentenced

A 35-year-old male who nearly two years ago used a cane to beat an elderly woman so brutally that she can't walk, speak, or recognize her husband of more than half a century was sentenced to eight years in prison last week.

What are the details?

Alexander Adams on February 23, 2022, approached John Hopkins, 78, and his wife — 79-year-old Claudia Hopkins — outside a supermarket in Washington, D.C., and asked them for five dollars, the U.S. Department of Justice said.

When John Hopkins gave Adams one dollar, Adams hollered, “That is not enough!” and punched John Hopkins, who fell to the ground, the DOJ said.

With that, Adam began beating Claudia Hopkins with her husband’s wooden cane, hitting her head and body, after which she fell backward and hit her head on the concrete, officials said.

Claudia Hopkins suffered numerous injuries, including a concussion, a brain bleed, swelling on the brain, and an altered mental state and cognitive deficits, officials said, adding that she "will likely never recover."

Adams has been in custody since February 24, 2022, officials said, adding that he pleaded guilty last December. He was sentenced Friday on two counts of aggravated assault of a senior citizen to 96 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, officials said.

According to WRC-TV, the prosecutor said Adams had 32 contacts with the judicial system over the years — including 11 assaults and 13 convictions. The judge called Adams extraordinarily dangerous, the station added.

'I have lost my wife forever'

WRC said that before the attack, John and Claudia Hopkins had an active social life. Now she is bedridden in a nursing home and can no longer walk, speak, or recognize her husband of more than 50 years, the station said.

“She is incapable of talking, she cannot walk, she has a feeding tube,” John Hopkins told WRC. “I have lost my wife forever.”

He added to the station, “I feel haunted; I feel emotionally haunted. I feel anguished. It has given me anxiety, and I realize I am depressed. And I fear that it will last me for the rest of my life.”

WRC reported that the day after the attack, Adams’ father told the station that his son had physically attacked him as well, breaking his hip. Tom Adams also told WRC that his son is bipolar and becomes violent when he doesn’t take his medication.

In court, Alexander Adams apologized for what he did, the station said.

“It’s the city’s and the United States government’s responsibility to protect its citizens, and we suffered that neglect,” John Hopkins told WRC.

Single mom on way to work fights back amid brutal attack, refuses to give up purse: 'I didn't want him to get away with this'

A single mother was brutally attacked as she was headed to work early one morning last weekend in Long Beach, California — but Beth Quintana fought back with everything she had, refusing to hand over her purse to the thug beating her.

"I didn't want him to get away with this," Quintana told KTLA-TV.

What are the details?

Quintana was walking to her car around 4:30 a.m. Saturday near 25th Street and Cedar Avenue and told police that an unknown man on a bicycle — and armed with a knife — approached her from behind, demanded her personal property, and then assaulted her, the station said.

“I had this really bad feeling, like something bad was going to happen, but I ignored my intuition and kept walking,” Quintana noted to KTLA. “Probably about five seconds later, I felt my head being hit.”

While she was on the ground, the attacker got on top of her and pulled out a knife, demanding her purse, the station said.

“I felt like “Oh my God, he’s going to rape me,’” she recounted to KTLA. “So I started screaming and fighting him.”

Quintana, who has two children, suffered a broken nose, a broken finger, a black eye, facial bruises, and a concussion, the station said, adding that her finger was nearly severed while she tried to take the attacker's knife.

“He just kept knocking my head over and over and over again, and there was a point where ... I almost stopped fighting, but I don't know what happened. I just was like, ‘No, I'm not going to stop fighting,’ and I just got back up,” she added to KNBC-TV.

Quintana added to KNBC that she refused to let the attacker take her phone satchel, purse, or bag. Despite it being her first-ever physical altercation, Quintana told KNBC she was able to knock her attacker to the ground twice.

"I just knew I didn't want him to get away with this," she recounted to KTLA. "And I knew I didn't want to die."

Quintana told KNBC about 10 to 15 minutes passed before someone exited a house down the street and her attacker got back on his bike and rode off. No description has been released, KTLA added.

Despite her traumatic experience, Quintana told KTLA she's "not going to let this deter me from going to work early in the morning. I’m going to continue to work, be out, and live my life.”

Her roommate told KTLA a GoFundMe page was set up to help Quintana cover unpaid time off from work and her medical bills.

16-year-old was lured to a party only to be viciously attacked by his peers, family says. He’s been unconscious in the ICU ever since.

A 16-year-old from Texas is reportedly still unconscious in the hospital after being brutally beaten by his peers at a party last week. The victim's family claims the attack was a setup.

What are the details?

Cole Hagen, a varsity football player and junior student at Brazoswood High School, about an hour south of Houston, was allegedly lured to a party before being attacked by his "supposed friends" on Friday, according to his older brother, Cory.

Cory Hagen told KPRC-TV over the weekend that sometime after his younger brother arrived at the party, he was coaxed to go outside and check his truck because it allegedly had been damaged. But once outside, Cory claims that one or more teens jumped his brother and severely beat him, one allegedly striking him in the back of the head with a "blunt object."

On Monday, police in Lake Jackson, Texas, arrested fellow Brazoswood High School student Reid Mitchell, 17, and charged him with aggravated assault for his role in the attack.

After knocking him unconscious, the attackers then left him for dead in the street, Cory claimed. He went on to say that soon after the beating, the suspected “ring leader” texted his brother's close friend and said, “Go get your boy out of the street.”

KPRC reported that Cole was later found suffering from three fractures to his skull and was transported to the Memorial Hermann Hospital. As of Monday afternoon, he remained in the hospital's intensive care unit, still unconscious.

What else?

Cory told the local news outlet that he and his family believe the attack was planned earlier in the week and that the incident involved Cole's relationship with a girl at the school.

The family is now pleading with members of the community to come forward with any information and are offering a $20,000 cash reward for anyone who may have video of the assault.

“What I am feeling is ... it’s a roller coaster of the most extreme grief you can imagine. To see him hurt and for him to be attacked in this senseless act of brutality, it’s unimaginable,” Cory Hagen told KPRC.

In a statement confirming the assault, Brazoswood High School said, “We are aware that a Brazoswood High School student was the victim of an off-campus assault at a Lake Jackson residence by another Brazoswood student over the weekend. The student involved will not be on campus.”

KPRC reported on Monday that "police believe the identity of all those involved has been established and other charges are pending." The investigation is still ongoing.
