California woman awoke to find homeless man fondling her and exposing himself, police say

California police say that a homeless home intruder exposed himself and fondled a woman as she was sleeping in her home in Santa Monica.

The Santa Monica Police Department said that 34-year-old Anthony Townson broke into the woman's home on 7th street at about 4 a.m. on Saturday.

'We're not getting the help we need, we're severely impacted.'

The woman told police that she awakened to find that Townson was rubbing her leg while exposing himself to her. She was was able to get away and call for police while the man fled from the scene.

Police said they were able to capture him nearby and determined that he had gotten into the woman's home through a patio sliding door that had been left unlocked on the second floor.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed felony charges of residential burglary and indecent exposure during unlawful entry against the man.

The man also had a criminal history that included trespassing, battery on a police officer, possession of drug paraphernalia, loitering on private property, and possession of a controlled substance.

City officials have been pressured by residents to do something about crime by homeless people after several recent horrendous incidents. In one terrifying case from May, a homeless man allegedly grabbed a jogger on the beach by her ponytail and tried to drag her into public bathrooms before bystanders intervened. In another incident in August, a man allegedly climbed on top of a female sunbather and sexually assaulted her.

The city's mayor told KTLA-TV that they needed help from state and even federal officials.

"We're not getting the help we need, we're severely impacted in an 8.3 square mile city with almost a thousand homeless people on our streets. I need help!" said Phil Brock.

Santa Monica is an affluent beach city where the median home price is $1.7 million.

Homeless man dragged female jogger by the hair toward public restroom in Santa Monica, police say

A woman was attacked by a homeless man while she was jogging in Santa Monica, and witnesses say he was trying to drag her into the public restrooms by her ponytail.

The Santa Monica Police Department said they responded to reports about the harrowing incident on May 13 at about 7:14 a.m. on Ocean Beach Walk near lifeguard tower 20.

“The victim, a Venice resident, was jogging southbound on the beach path when the suspect grabbed her ponytail from behind, knocking her to the ground,” police said in a statement.

“He then pulled her several feet toward the restrooms.”

Police said they found both the alleged attacker and the woman near the Bicknell restrooms and took him into custody without incident.

The victim believed that the man intended to sexually assault her, according to a report from the Santa Monica Daily Press. Witnesses to the attack reportedly intervened and called the police.

Police later identified the man as 48-year-old Malcolm Jimmy Ward Jr. and said that he was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon.

On Wednesday, Ward was charged with felony kidnapping, felony assault with intent to commit rape, and for violating his parole, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.

Residents of the area told KCAL-TV that violent crime has gotten worse and worse in recent years.

"I'm glad people came to her aid right away," said Allie Trefz, a resident of Santa Monica. "Definitely more of that, that's incredible. That's what we should be doing is all helping each other.

"I'm careful, I have a history as a psychiatric nurse, so I have some experience, and so I'm not maybe as fearful as most people are, but I know you have to keep your distance, if people are hallucinating," said another resident.

"Obviously, anyone who assaults someone else is not mentally in the right head space, and they need help, but somebody to do that in broad daylight, it's like, they're not even thinking, they're just impulsively acting," said Anna Meyer to KTTV-TV.

Police released a photograph of Ward in order to seek help from the public in identifying other possible victims.

The woman's age was not disclosed. She suffered minor injuries from the incident.

The average single family home in Santa Monica costs about $1.7 million according to Reddit.

California man says his wife was stabbed to death after asking couple doing drugs to move away from their kids' window

A man says that his wife was stabbed to death after she asked a couple to move away from her kids' bedroom window because they were doing drugs.

Cody Weems told KABC-TV that his 28-year-old wife, Shawna Weems, confronted the two people on Monday at about 12:38 a.m. in front of their apartment in Hemet, California.

He said that the woman instead pulled out a knife and stabbed his wife several times.

"She was my wife; she was my best friend, my rock, my soul, the mother to my children ... just everything," said Cody Weems.

"Just get the person that did it behind bars and serve justice. That is all I want," he added. "I don't want anything else. I just want the woman caught."

The alleged attacker and the man fled from the scene in a silver Nissan truck pulling a recreational vehicle, and Shawna Weems was transported to a hospital where she died.

Brooke Blackford, a friend of the victim, told KABC that Shawna had only been trying to protect her three children.

"She would do anything for her kids, to protect them, so that they didn't have to see things. She was always wanting to protect her kids," she said.

The Hemet Police Department said they were investigating leads related to the murder. Neighbors said that there had been a lot of problems coming from people doing drugs in recreational vehicles in the area.

A GoFundMe account has raised more than $12K for the surviving family to move from the apartment.

"The greatest wife I could ever imagine," said Cody Weems to KNBC-TV. "The greatest daughter to her dad. She was such a good woman."

Hemet is a city of 90,000 people in Riverside County about 86 miles east of Los Angeles.

Man randomly stabbed in the neck while walking down the street on video call with his brother. LAPD says the killer is a homeless man.

Los Angeles police have arrested a homeless man as a suspect in the unprovoked and random stabbing death of a man who was simply walking down the street on a video chat with his brother.

The harrowing incident unfolded on April 8 at about 2:40 p.m. as Sergio Santay was walking down the 600 block of Bonnie Brae Street near downtown Los Angeles, California.

The LAPD said another man walked up to Santay as he was video chatting with his brother and stabbed him in the neck. The suspect ran off after the vicious assault but tried to stab two other people on the way, according to police.

Santay died at the scene. The others who were attacked were not seriously injured.

Police said that they had obtained surveillance video of the suspect stabbing the victim. From that video, they identified the suspect as 43-year-old Anthony Madison, who they said was a homeless man.

Police said Madison was known to frequent the area of the attack and that he had been previously arrested on charges of narcotics sales and assault with a deadly weapon. They also indicated that he had been on parole for the latter charge when he allegedly attacked Santay.

“He was talking to me on FaceTime. He was very happy about his day, telling me about work,” said Douglas Santay, the victim's brother, in Spanish to KTLA.

Madison was charged with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder. His bail was set at $5 million.

The victim's father, Emilio Santay, said that his son was a construction worker and was just leaving work when he was attacked. The family has set up a GoFundMe account to help pay for the victim's funeral costs.
