'Reacher' star says he imitated his crime-fighting character while on date with his wife and seeing crook breaking into car

"Reacher" star Alan Ritchson said during an interview that he actually imitated his show's crime-fighting character, Jack Reacher, while on date with his wife when they saw a crook breaking into car.

What are the details?

Ritchson broke it all down in a clip posted last week from "etalk," a celebrity program that's part of Canada's CTV network.

“We were on a date in Montreal walking to a very nice dinner all dressed up, and we saw somebody breaking into a car. And, like, she put it together before I did," Ritcher recalled to the program, noting that there was "glass everywhere" and a crook was "rooting through somebody’s stuff and came out with all these bags."

He added that his wife said, "I think he’s breaking into that car." Richter's response? "By gosh, I think you’re right."

Apparently, Richter's wife had an inkling of what might happen next.

"And she goes, ‘Don’t do it!’ And I was like, ‘Instant Reacher Mode,’ and I was like, ‘Some justice has to be done here.’ And I chased that dude like four blocks until I tossed him into a building and the cops came,” Richter added.

In the end, he said his wife was "very mad at me for not just, like, taking her on our date," but Richter noted that "we got there eventually."

Anything else?

According to the Internet Movie Database, the hit Amazon series "Reacher" focuses on a retired Military Police officer who's arrested for a murder he didn't commit — and who "finds himself in the middle of a deadly conspiracy full of dirty cops, shady businessmen, and scheming politicians. With nothing but his wits, he must figure out what is happening in Margrave, Georgia."

Tom Cruise played the same character in two movies released in 2012 and 2016.

Man shoots dead, wounds two crooks he caught breaking into his car after confrontation escalates. Wounded suspect, 17, exchanged gunfire with car owner.

Things couldn't have gone much worse for a pair of alleged crooks in Atlanta last week.

What happened?

A man was walking out of the Publix grocery store in the Peachtree Battle Shopping Plaza around 4 p.m. Friday when he noticed two people breaking into his car, WXIA-TV reported.

The car owner decided to confront the pair — and when the situation escalated "the victim chose to take his weapon and defend himself against the people that were breaking into the vehicle," Atlanta Police Deputy Chief Timothy Peek told the station.

The car owner shot one of the suspects dead, WXIA said.

The second suspect — a 17-year-old male — took off toward Peachtree Hills and traded gunfire with the car owner, the station said. But police soon caught up with teen, who was wounded in his wrist, the station reported.

Police told WXIA the wounded teen was still being treated Saturday at Grady Hospital, and that after he's medically cleared he'll be transported to Fulton County Jail.

But there's way worse stuff in store for this kid.

Murder charge — for the teen suspect

Police charged the 17-year-old with felony murder, entering auto, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person under 18, the station said.

Why a murder charge for the teen when he wasn't the one who fatally shot the other suspect?

Well, WXIA noted that under Georgia law, if a suspect is killed during the commission of a crime, responsibility for the death is placed on any alleged accomplices.

Anything else?

"It appears to be this was a group of people who decided to come out and commit crimes, and unfortunately it led to the death of someone," Peek added to the station, also noting that police know "the victim's vehicle was entered" and "some of the victim's property was recovered on the scene but not inside the vehicle where it was originally left."

Police haven't released the identity of the suspect who shot dead in the incident, WXIA reported, adding that cops also haven't filed other charges amid the continuing investigation.

Man confronts crooks breaking into car in his neighborhood, so they start shooting at him. But he's armed, too — and fires right back.

Seems as though there was a time not too long ago when the average adult could successfully call out punks doing petty crime, and at worst the culprits would run off for fear of getting caught.

But as we've seen in recent years, that scenario appears to be the exception rather than the rule — and those who choose to do the noble thing may be putting their lives at risk.

That's pretty much what went down over the weekend east of downtown Houston.

What happened?

A neighborhood resident told KTRK-TV at least three males broke into a car in the area of Nagle Street and Capitol Street — and he decided to get into his truck and confront them.

"I start honking to tell him I know they're breaking into that car," the resident, who did not want to be identified, told the station. "At that point, they turn back, and I did the same thing to light up the street."

But the resident told KTRK that about halfway down the street, things took a terrifying turn.

"They pull out guns and start shooting," the resident told the station.

He added to KTRK that another resident in the area also saw what was happening and called police before the gunfire started.

Battling back

Fortunately, the resident who confronted the crooks came prepared with a little more than his voice and a honking truck: He pulled out his own gun and started firing back at the trio, the station said.

"I can't believe all three of these kids had guns ... and are willing to kill someone," he told KTRK, adding that they "were so aggressive coming at me" and that "they chased me all the way down the street to the walking trail."

So, he told the station, "I pull[ed] out my own gun [and] returned fire."

The station said no one was hit by the gunfire, but at least one vehicle was damaged by bullets.

There was no word on a description of the suspects or if any arrests had been made, KTRK reported.
