Dem Sen. Casey dumps Kamala and runs pro-Trump ad in tough re-elect fight in key battleground state

Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey Jr. put out a new campaign ad Friday distancing himself from President Joe Biden, aligning himself with President Donald Trump, and altogether omitting any mention of Kamala Harris.

While Casey, the son of former Pennsylvania Gov. Bob Casey Sr., might simply be attempting to draw moderate and independent supporters away from Trump-backed challenger David McCormick — the combat veteran MSNBC talking head Chuck Todd recently predicted would win — keen observers have suggested the ad is a telltale sign that Democrats know Pennsylvania is going for Trump.

The ad features a couple who "just don't agree" on politics but found their way to agreeing that Casey is worth their time.

The woman textually introduced as Marygrace of Old Forge claims that Casey is an "independent" who is "leading the effort to stop corporate greedflation and price gouging."

'You only run this ad if you think Trump is winning PA!'

Marygrace notes further that "Casey bucked Biden to protect fracking and he sided with Trump to end NAFTA and put tariffs on China to stop them from cheating."

Of course, Casey is anything but independent, voting in lockstep with his Democratic peers to unsuccessfully impeach Trump on multiple occasions; to protect sanctuary cities and the illegal aliens therein; to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act; against ending the national COVID-19 emergency; for greater gun control; and against the completion of barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Although he now complains about inflation, he previously joined his fellow Democrats in voting for Biden's Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.

While Casey is seeking to distance himself from Biden, Casey had — as of last year — voted with the president 98.5% of the time while in the Senate.

The "independent" claim might be a stumbling block for Americans who know Casey, but the ad's suggestion that Casey is aligned with Trump is all the more puzzling — especially in light of the Republican's characterization by the Harris campaign and Democratic boosters as dangerous and unstable. Unless, of course, Democrats' internal polling indicates that the situation on the ground is far worse than has been publicly admitted.

According to Nate Silver's FiveThirtyEight polling, Trump and Harris are nearly tied in the Keystone State, Trump with 47.7% and Harris with 47.9%.

The Telegraph's latest Redfield and Wilton Strategies polls shows the two candidates are tied at 48% a piece.

The Wall Street Journal noted last Friday that Trump actually had a narrow edge in Pennsylvania and that independent voters remain evenly divided.

Across several swing states, including Pennsylvania, the Journal noted that the top two issues of concern were the economy and immigration, in that order. Trump leads Harris by 10% on the first and by 16% on the second.

Mike Berg, communications director for the National Republican Senatorial Committee, wrote, "Quite a tell. Bob Casey is now promoting DJT in his ads."

"Leftist Pennsylvania Senator @Bob_Casey is currently running a TV ad trying to tie himself to Trump," tweeted Donald Trump Jr. "Notice that he's not running any ads tying himself to Kamala Harris or mentioning that he votes with her 100% of the time. You only run this ad if you think Trump is winning PA!"

Tim Murtaugh, the director of communications for Trump's 2020 campaign, noted, "Bob Casey thinks Donald Trump is going to win Pennsylvania. That's the only way to explain Casey's new ad, which ALIGNS HIM WITH TRUMP. He bucks Biden by name, and does not mention Kamala Harris at all. An endangered Dem is RUNNING AWAY FROM HARRIS AND WITH TRUMP. Just huge."

The Trump campaign resisted Casey's desperate association with the president, writing, "Leftist scumbag Bob Casey — who supported BOTH impeachment hoaxes and votes with Kamala 100% of the time — is now desperately trying to embrace President Trump. Pennsylvanians know he's a shill for Kamala's deranged, radical left agenda — and always will be."

Trump was the first Republican to win the state since 1988 and is said to have lost it in 2020 by 80,000 votes. The BBC highlighted that no Democrat has won the White House without taking the Keystone State since 1948.

Executive editor of the Daily Beast lashes out against Casey DeSantis in elitist rant, calling her a 'Walmart Melania' for wearing 'a Red State big-bin store' jacket

The executive editor at the Daily Beast has targeted Casey DeSantis in a deranged rant, emphasizing that Florida's first lady has neither the ideological mooring nor the aristocratic bona fides necessary to qualify for acceptance by the media and the political establishment.

Casey DeSantis, 42, is a mother of three and former news journalist who battled breast cancer and won. Extra to her successful career on television, she has championed various causes — such as cancer research and hurricane relief — for the betterment of her state while also actively supporting her husband, Gov. Ron DeSantis, both in Florida and in his latest presidential bid.

Doug Lambert, vice chair of the Republican Party in Belknap, New Hampshire, recently told Reuters, "She's the real deal."

Politico said she was "unquestionably the most important person influencing DeSantis’ policy and political operations ... taking both public positions on key issues like mental health funding as well as more behind-the-scenes duties, including playing a leading role in changing the makeup at the Republican Party of Florida."

The New York Post called her the governor's "not-so-secret political weapon."

However, to Katie Baker, the executive editor of the Daily Beast, Florida's first lady is just "the Walmart Melania."

The Daily Beast, a floundering leftist blog that was recently exposed for advancing a false report, published Baker's rant over the weekend, which was thematically centered on a jacket worn by Casey DeSantis at a biker charity event in Iowa, during which the governor told an audience, "We will never ever surrender to the woke mob."

The criticism of the jacket — which Baker used as an excuse to similarly lambaste former first lady Melania Trump's "I Really Don't Care" coat, but not Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's expensive "Tax the Rich" Met Gala dress — spiraled out into what appeared to be an attempt at character assassination, not unlike the profile run on May 19 by Politico, entitled "The Casey DeSantis Problem: ‘His Greatest Asset and His Greatest Liability."

The leather jacket that drew Baker's ire had an American flag on the front. On the back was a silhouette of the state of Florida and an alligator along with the caption, "Where woke goes to die."

“Iowa and Florida: Where woke goes to die…

….thanks to the leadership of @KimReynoldsIA and @RonDeSantis.”
— Casey DeSantis (@Casey DeSantis) 1685839545

Baker wrote the jacket "brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99."

"Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud," wrote Baker.

Rather than sporting a "big-bin store" jacket that other Americans could similarly afford and wear, Baker made clear what the political elite should look like: "Think the pure sweetness of Michelle’s Jason Wu floral gown for the Obamas’ first inaugural ball, or Jill’s pastel blue coat that echoed the colors of Ukraine’s flag when Volodymyr Zelensky visited the White House."

While the Daily Beast's executive editor suggested "that fashion is a joyous extension of who you are and a symbol of what you want the world to know about you and about what you stand for," she intimated the American flag, gator, and "Where woke goes to die" slogan are altogether unacceptable, claiming that DeSantis' jacket signals Florida is not just where woke goes to die but where "a lot of other people die as well."

Baker linked the promise of wokeness' end, as signaled by DeSantis' jacket, to COVID deaths, alleged book bans, Jim Crow-era lynch mobs, and the 2016 Orlando Pulse nightclub mass shooting, further claiming the jacket serves as a "warning" to America of more in that vein.

Beyond "reading too much" into the DeSantis' war on identitarianism, ESG and gender ideology, Baker proceeded to make a classist argument for why Casey DeSantis, a daughter of a former USAF officer and a Sicilian immigrant, will never receive the acceptance of the liberal establishment as she lacks both Jackie Kennedy's progressive politics and the wealth of the Trumps.

"While Casey may be trying to position herself after Jackie Kennedy (good luck) and even Melania, if this weekend is any indication, she’s falling far short. It doesn't matter how many times she wears that ice-blue Badgley Mischka cape-dress. The DeSantis’ will never be Camelot," wrote Baker, adding that DeSantis could never "embody the class and effortless elegance of Michelle Obama or Dr. Jill Biden."

Baker made explicit her classist digs with an allusion to "The Great Gatsby," suggesting that unlike F. Scott Fitzgerald's fictional characters Tom and Daisy Buchanan — inheritors of affluence and wealth — "the DeSantis’ are more like poseurs," bereft also of the Gatsbian wealth that the Trumps can "retreat into."

Despite insinuating the DeSantis' are barred from the upper echelons of American society and the media acceptance that entails, the Daily Beast's executive editor managed to parrot Roger Stone's claim in Politico's May hit piece comparing Casey DeSantis to a famous literary aristocrat, but only as a means to denigrate.

"We’ve got a Sunshine State Lady Macbeth, in her green cape and white gloves, with her middling husband and her thirst for the crown," wrote Baker.

Jenna Ellis, a conservative lawyer who previously worked on former President Donald Trump's legal team, tweeted in response to Baker's article, "Tell me you’re elitist without telling me you’re elitist."

Given Baker's framing of Casey DeSantis as "the Walmart Melania," one commentator asked, "What's wrong with (shopping at) Walmart?"

Another commentator wrote, "No, these people don't hate the peasants, why do you ask?"

Philip Melanchthon Wegmann, a White House reporter with RealClearPolitics, suggested Baker's hit piece served as "an early in-kind contribution to DeSantis."

'On day one we'll be spitting nails': DeSantis rages against deep state and pledges to dismantle it in Glenn Beck interview

Tech issues dogged Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' presidential announcement Wednesday, prompting his biggest Republican primary opponent and critics on the left to suggest the troubled medium was the message.

Unfazed, the Republican governor spoke to nationally syndicated radio host and co-founder of Blaze Media Glenn Beck Thursday morning, elaborating on his vision for America — a vision leftists would likely prefer to see disrupted by more than glitches.

DeSantis told Beck that there was little to be done in Tallahassee about the Twitter-side technical difficulties resultant of a surge in interest, but that there is much to be done in Washington, and as president, he wouldn't waste a moment.

"On day one we'll be spitting nails," said DeSantis, underscoring that his aim as president would be not repair but reformation.

This reformation, which DeSantis termed a re-constitutionalization of the U.S. government, entails reclaiming power from the ill-equipped and the unelected.

With the understanding that bureaucrats in Washington "do not want to give up this power willingly," DeSantis said it is important to get the personnel right.

"You can't just recycle everybody from D.C.," said DeSantis. "It's not going to change if that's the case."

Rather than sourcing talent from the majoritively Democratic capital, the Florida Republican indicated that he will bring in patriots from around the country who can unsettle the status quo.

DeSantis indicated that on his first day in office, he would clean house, naming a new FBI director and an "attorney general that has a backbone — an attorney general that recognizes if you are doing your job properly, you are going to be pilloried by the Washington Post and the New York Times and CNN."

Extra to ensuring the right people are in the right jobs, the governor indicated he will wield Article 2 authority to its fullest extent, albeit in a disciplined and strategic manner, as a means to deconstruct the administrative state and take on the antipathetic and obstructionist forces in the FBI, the Department of Justice, the Internal Revenue Service, the CIA, and other agencies.

"We have these agencies that have been detached from constitutional accountability. There was never supposed to be a fourth branch of government, but Congress has not held them accountable with the power of the purse or with legislating more precisely," said DeSantis. "Presidents have not been willing to wield Article 2 power to discipline the bureaucracy."

DeSantis told Beck that as a consequence of the impotence and deference of past leaders, it is presently unclear whether "we govern ourselves ... because right now, the most significant issues tend not to be resolved by our elected representatives. They're done by these bureaucrats and through these agencies. And so it's really, I think, a crisis of self-government."

By curbing and reversing this consolidation of power among technocratic forces who "all have the same worldview," DeSantis indicated that the power can be returned to the people.

“.@RonDeSantis tells me how he plans to clean up the Deep State bureaucracy if he's elected president: "On DAY ONE, we'll be spitting nails."”
— Glenn Beck (@Glenn Beck) 1685026143

While restoring to Americans what is theirs by birthright, DeSantis suggested he would also ensure the government and woke capital get out of their way.

"We need to have the Federal Reserve focus on stable money and stop trying to be the economic central planner," he said.

The governor indicated that he would also continue the work he has committed to in Florida, combating woke businesses whose ideological agenda makes it "harder for the average American family to make ends meet."

Having likened the historical import of DeSantis' direct appeal to prospective voters on Wednesday night to former President Bill Clinton's then-impactful MTV town hall debate or his appearance on "The Arsenio Hall Show," Beck pressed the Republican candidate on whether his announcement signaled "the end of the mainstream media" and a new trend of going straight to the people.

In reply, DeSantis lauded Elon Musk's opening of Twitter and its potential for going around the legacy media, but noted that there is still much to do "to make sure that the First Amendment actually means something," referencing the continuing efforts of Silicon Valley leftists and federal agencies to clamp down on free speech online.

As a means of bypassing the establishment media and various other gatekeepers, Beck proposed a Blaze TV-hosted presidential debate or roundtable, free from "gotcha questions" and committed to probing topics that actually matter to voters.

"I'd love to be a part of it," responded DeSantis, adding that he'd like to see the RNC sanction it.

DeSantis, whose campaign claimed to have brought in over $1 million in donations in less than an hour Wednesday evening, stands tall above the rest of the Republican field with the exception of former President Donald Trump, whom the governor trails in the polls by double digits.

The latest Emerson College Iowa Republican presidential caucus poll has Trump up 42 points, with DeSantis at 20. Former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and former Vice President Mike Pence are tied for a distant third at five points in the poll.

CNN's May 24 poll put Trump up by 27 points. The May 19 Harvard-Harris poll suggested an even greater spread, with Trump sitting at 58 and DeSantis at 16.

While entering the GOP primary as an apparent underdog, DeSantis nevertheless has momentum, having built up speed killing woke initiatives in Florida and simultaneously illustrating some of what he could offer the rest of the nation.

In his second term as Florida governor, the 44-year-old former Navy JAG officer has already made significant strides in combating the leftist agenda, such as his ratification of a six-week abortion ban, a permitless concealed carry bill, and a law barring public universities from using state funds for DEI initiatives. Prior to his re-election and swearing-in on Glenn Beck's Bible of the Revolution, DeSantis also reopened Florida while much of the nation idled under COVID restrictions and passed legislation that ensured LGBT propaganda could not be disseminated in the classroom.

At the outset of his campaign, the Quinnipiac University Poll has DeSantis leading President Joe Biden by one. In the same poll, Trump trails Biden by two.

Despite the comparisons that have and will continue to be drawn between DeSantis and Trump, he recently emphasized in a recent interview with Piers Morgan, "If I were to run, I'm running against Biden."

DeSantis will reportedly announce presidential bid during Wednesday Twitter Spaces with Elon Musk

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is slated to announce a presidential bid during a Wednesday evening Twitter Spaces with billionaire business tycoon Elon Musk, according to reports.

"BREAKING: @FoxNews confirms Florida Governor @RonDeSantis will announce his 2024 Presidential run tomorrow night, 6pm ET in a Twitter Spaces interview with @elonmusk," Bill Melugin of Fox News tweeted.

Musk retweeted Melugin's post.

Florida first lady Casey DeSantis tweeted a Fox News article that reported her husband will announce his candidacy Wednesday during a talk with Musk on the social media platform. When sharing the article she wrote, "Big if true..." along with a smiling emoji.

The Twitter Spaces event will reportedly be moderated by David Sacks.

While speaking remotely for the Wall Street Journal's CEO Council Summit, Musk noted that he is not planning to endorse a specific candidate, according to the Journal. CNN reported that Musk said that he does not plan to endorse someone "at this time."

But when asked last year whether he would support DeSantis for president in 2024, Musk replied in the affirmative.

"My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I had hoped that would the case for the Biden administration, but have been disappointed so far," Musk tweeted in November.

"Would you support Ron DeSantis in 2024, Elon?" someone replied.

"Yes," Musk responded.

“@ProudElephantUS @TimRunsHisMouth Yes”
— Tim Young (@Tim Young) 1669414177

Back in July 2022, Musk suggested that DeSantis could defeat President Joe Biden without even campaigning.

"Trump would be 82 at end of term, which is too old to be chief executive of anything, let alone the United States of America. If DeSantis runs against Biden in 2024, then DeSantis will easily win – he doesn't even need to campaign," Musk wrote.

DeSantis will be jumping into a GOP primary field that already includes former President Donald Trump, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley, U.S. Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, author and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, and Larry Elder.

DeSantis, who soundly defeated Democratic opponent Charlie Crist during the Sunshine State's 2022 gubernatorial contest, has long been viewed as a figure who might jump into the presidential contest.

Trump has been taking shots at the Florida governor for months and referring to him as "DeSanctimonious."

DC Democrat Mayor Bowser announces deputy mayor's resignation amid assault charges and mounting questions about residency

In a press conference on Wednesday, D.C.'s Democrat Mayor Muriel Bowser announced her acceptance of Deputy Mayor Chris Geldart's resignation.

Geldart, tasked with overseeing "public safety and justice" in the District, was charged with assault and battery earlier this month and placed on administrative leave by the city on October 5. The resultant police report opened Geldart to additional scrutiny as the address attributed to him was based in Virginia, a potential issue since he was required to live in the District.

Resignation

One week after Geldart was placed on leave, Bowser announced his resignation, stating, "I'm saddened to say that I have accepted the resignation of Deputy Mayor Chris Geldart." She did not indicate whether the 53-year-old's resignation was volunteered or requested.

Bowser stated that she was proud of the work they had done together over the past eight years and that she was "immensely grateful to Chris for his service to the city. Chris has been a very capable and effective public servant."

Bowser added, "We both agree that the focus should be on the big issues affecting D.C.."

As to which particular scandal weighed more heavily in prompting Geldart's exit, the Democrat mayor would not say, indicating only that "all of the questions being raised are distracting from his job and my job."

Until a replacement is appointed, City Administrator Kevin Donahue, who confirmed he has lived in D.C. since 1990, will lead the office of deputy mayor for public safety and justice.

Day-tripping

The police report concerning Geldart's alleged assault listed the former deputy mayor's address beyond the Potomac in Falls Church, Virginia, where he reportedly lives with his family. Geldart also rents an apartment in southeast D.C., where he is registered to vote and pay income taxes.

WRC-TV noted it is unclear how much time Geldart spends at either residence.

The Code of the District of Columbia (§ 1–515.03) requires that an individual appointed to a position such as formerly held by Geldart "shall become a District resident within 180 days after appointment." Failing to "remain a District resident for the duration of the individual's appointment shall forfeit the individual's District government employment."

When pressed on whether living remotely while only renting in the District is "in the spirit of the law," Bowser told reporters, "We don't have a requirement that people own a home. They can rent a home. Many people in D.C. rent homes."

Bowser confirmed last week that she had not given Geldart any hardship waiver or reviewed one that would allow him to live outside the city in which he governs.

The Washington City Paper highlighted how, in documents pertaining to Geldart's nomination to the role of director of the Department of Public Works in 2019, the address provided was in D.C.'s Ward 6, in the heart of the city.

From public safety and justice to assault and battery

Around 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, October 1, outside Gold's Gym in Arlington, Virginia, Geldart allegedly got into a verbal confrontation with a smaller man, Dustin Woodard. Woodard works as a trainer at the gym.

The fracas began after the door of the deputy mayor's parked car allegedly struck a vehicle belonging to Woodard's girlfriend. The situation escalated, and Geldart allegedly seized the victim by the throat.

The interaction can be seen in the footage obtained by WTTG.

Geldart subsequently drove away. He was later informed over the phone of a warrant pertaining to assault and battery charges and turned himself in.

After being charged accordingly and released on summons, Geldart was placed on administrative leave.

Bowser's office downplayed the alleged assault in an October 5 statement, suggesting it "sounds like something that happens to a lot of people — a dispute over something minor."

Bowser has since indicated that while the cause of the dispute (i.e., a "door ding") was "minor," the resulting escalation was "serious."

Woodard told WTTG that Geldart is "way too big to be trying to be a bully, especially with his position. Something should be done."

"We've been dealing with him for a while at Gold's," said Woodard, alluding to multiple other instances in which the deputy mayor allegedly abused his power at the gym.

— Casey Nolen (@Casey Nolen) 1665027105

Woodard also told WUSA9 that while it was prudent to "show some compassion for him in this matter," what Geldart did "was wrong and shouldn't go unpunished."

Geldart has served as deputy mayor since January 2021. He was previously director of the Department of Public Works, though resigned from the post shortly after the office of the inspector general issued a report claiming he had committed two ethics violations, including having used his government office to benefit a "close personal acquaintance."

In 2017, four Bowser-appointed members of the Board of Ethics and Government Accountability dismissed a formal investigation into Geldart regarding potential ethics violations, having found "there was insufficient evidence to support a reasonable belief that a violation occurred."

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announces that his wife 'is now considered cancer free'

Several months ago Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis announced that his wife Casey had been diagnosed with breast cancer, but the Republican politician announced on Thursday that Florida's first lady is now cancer free.

In a video message, DeSantis declared that, "After going through both treatment and surgery for breast cancer," his wife "is now considered cancer free."

While the governor said that there is more for his wife to do, he noted that he is "confident" that she will "make a full recovery."

"There are no words to express how truly blessed, grateful and humbled I am to hear the words cancer free," Casey DeSantis said in a statement. "To those who are in the fight, know there is hope. Have faith and stay strong."

'She's doing well': Ron DeSantis reveals wife Casey finished last chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced that Florida's first lady, Casey DeSantis, completed her final chemotherapy treatment.

The Florida governor delivered an update on his wife's condition at the end of a news conference on Thursday in Bowling Green, Florida.

"I just wanted to let everyone know that the first lady yesterday completed the final chemotherapy treatment that she has to do," DeSantis announced.

“It’s not the most fun thing to see someone to go through, but at the end of the day, she’s fought really hard. We think she’s responded very well.” DeSantis revealed. "She's still got more stuff to do, but that's a big milestone."

"She got through that. She ran that gauntlet, she's doing well, and we look forward to continue to have good news over the ensuing few weeks and months," DeSantis said.

Casey, 41, shared a video of her husband making the announcement on Twitter with a message to her husband: "Thank you for being by my side from the beginning, but especially yesterday as we celebrated my FINAL Chemo Treatment together. I’m grateful, very humbled and blessed."

The DeSantis family revealed that Casey was diagnosed with breast cancer in October.

"As the mother of three young children, Casey is the centerpiece of our family and has made an impact on the lives of countless Floridians through her initiatives as first lady," the Republican governor said in October. "As she faces the most difficult test of her life, she will have not only have my unwavering support but the support of our entire family, as well as the prayers and well wishes from Floridians across our state. Casey is a true fighter, and she will never, never, never give up."

The couple has three children, all under the age of 5.

In early January, leftists such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and MSNBC host Joy Reid accused DeSantis of being on vacation as COVID-19 cases spiked in Florida. It turned out that DeSantis was accompanying his wife as she received treatment for breast cancer.

DeSantis made the announcement about his wife's last chemo treatment during a press conference where he awarded $2.3 million to six Florida colleges and trade schools to support instruction for truck drivers and nursing students.

The American Trucking Associations estimates a shortage of 160,000 truck drivers by 2030.

DeSantis proclaimed that he wants Florida to be the "No. 1 state for workforce education by 2030."

Seth Rogen gets schooled after he tries to downplay brazen crime in Los Angeles: 'Champagne socialist'

Liberal actor Seth Rogen was hit with swift backlash this week after he attempted to downplay brazen street crime in Los Angeles.

What happened?

YouTuber Casey Neistat, who now lives in Los Angeles, said Wednesday that his car had been broken into, and that, fortunately, quick-acting police officers arrested the perpetrator and recovered stolen items.

"[S]o our cars got robbed this morning because Los Angeles is a crime riddled 3rd world s***hole of a city but tremendous appreciation and gratitude to the hardworking officers at the @LAPDWestLA who not only arrested the motherf***** but they got all of our stolen goods back," Neistat explained.

That's when Rogen chimed in. Not only did the actor downplay the serious problem of crime in Los Angeles, but he even put a positive spin on crime, saying that sometimes criminals leave items when they break into cars.

"Dude I've lived here for over 20 years. You're nuts haha. It's lovely here. Don't leave anything valuable in it. It's called living in a big city," Rogen told Neistat.

"[I] can still be mad tho right? feel so violated," Neistat shot back.

"You can be mad but I guess I don't personally view my car as an extension of myself and I've never really felt violated any of the 15 or so times my car was broken in to," Rogen then said. "Once a guy accidentally left a cool knife in my car so if it keeps happening you might get a little treat."

"[I] didn't get any treats. he just took the decorations for my daughters 7th birthday party and left bloody hand prints," Neistat responded, "serious question; how did you get your car broken into 15 times?"

"I lived in West Hollywood for 20 years and parked on the street," Rogen responded. "Also it sucks your shit was stolen but LA is not some s***hole city. As far as big cities go it has a lot going for it."

What was the response?

Rogen's comments triggered a raucous response.

Critics said that Rogen's dismissive response highlighted just how privileged he is: that he is rich enough that he doesn't need to worry about crime. Others pointed out the irony of Rogen saying his car has been broken into 15 times while at the same time downplaying crime levels in Los Angeles.

 • "Defending the quality of life in your city by referencing the 15 times your car was broken into and the possibility that you may get a free weapon left by a criminal, is not the defense you think it is.Nobody should accept lawlessness," one person said.
 • "ah, yes, the millionaire is not bothered, so the rest of us don't bother as well. Check your bubble, Seth," another person responded.
 • "When people talk about celebrities being disconnected from the reality of normal people, this is what they are talking about, @Sethrogen. I get it, you're trying to be Mr. Nice Guy, but you're really being Mr. Snootypants," one person said.
 • "Dude, that is not normal, having your car broken into. To average people, a car is the second most valuable asset they own, and yes that is a violation," another person pointed out.
 • "Must be nice to have this kind of privilege," one person mocked.
 • "Ah, celebrities. Claims that their ridiculous levels of wealth mean they're completely out of touch are nonsense. After all, we all agree our car getting stolen as a big nothing. No financial conseqs to our lives at all. Just get another one, easy! It's called 'living in a city'!" another person mocked.
 • "As a champagne socialist, @Sethrogen recognizes that his limousine in Malibu belongs to the people. A guy who breaks into his car is an undocumented chauffeur," another person said.
 • "Say you're so wealthy you're completely disconnected from common people without telling me you're so wealthy you're completely disconnected from common people," another person responded.
 • "Imagine being so rich and privileged you can afford not to be worried if your car gets broken into," another person mocked.
