Broadcasting legend Charles Osgood dies at 91

TV and radio broadcasting legend Charles Osgood passed away at the age of 91, according to CBS News, which reported that his family indicated that dementia was the cause of his death.

Osgood is widely known for anchoring "CBS Sunday Morning" for more than two decades. He was a fixture on the radio for more than four decades.

"To say there's no one like Charles Osgood is an understatement," noted "Sunday Morning" executive producer Rand Morrison, according to CBS News. "He embodied the heart and soul of 'Sunday Morning.' His signature bow tie, his poetry … just his presence was special for the audience, and for those of us who worked with him. At the piano, Charlie put our lives to music. Truly, he was one of a kind – in every sense."

CBS News noted that Jane Pauley, who became the host of "CBS Sunday Morning" when Osgood departed in 2016, said, "Watching him at work was a masterclass in communicating. I'll still think to myself, 'How would Charlie say it?', trying to capture the elusive warmth and intelligence of his voice and delivery. I expect I'll go on trying. He was one of the best broadcast stylists and one of the last. His style was so natural and unaffected it communicated his authenticity. He connected with people. Watching him on TV, or listening on the radio, as I did for years, was to feel like you knew him, and he knew you. He brought a unique sensibility, curiosity and his trademark whimsy to 'Sunday Morning,' and it endures."

Osgood was the voice of the narrator on the animated 2008 movie, "Horton Hears a Who!"

Host goes quiet when mom gives blunt answer to book-banning question

The parental rights movement is growing, and even CBS is talking about it.

"CBS News Sunday Morning" recently aired an interview with Tina Descovich and Tiffany Justice — former Florida school board members and founders of the Moms for Liberty organization — and hosts asked them if they supported book-burning.

Moms for Liberty was launched in 2021 and now claims 275 chapters in 45 states with 115,000 members and counting.

The group has grown exponentially after bringing attention to books like "Genderqueer" in school libraries, which the moms have deemed inappropriate.

“Never bet against a mom,” Justice said in the CBS interview, “I mean, nobody’s going to defend anything like a mom is going to defend their child.”

She continued, “We want people who are serving an elected office [to] respect the role of the parent in a child’s life.”

And they’ve been very successful.

Co-founder Descovich confirmed. “So, in 2022,” she said, “our chapter’s endorsed in over 500 school board races across the country, and they won 275 seats.”

When the "CBS News Sunday Morning" host asked what kind of books they want in libraries, Descovich said they want books that “educate children.”

The host called her answer a “generalization,” and Justice interrupted.

“Books that don’t have pornography in them. Let’s start there. Let’s just put the bar really, really low. Books that don’t have incest, pedophilia,” she retorted.

The host then went quiet.

Dave Rubin believes CBS airing this piece is a step in the right direction but is “only possible because more and more people are stepping up and fighting for the right thing.”

“The point here guys,” he continues, “is that something positive comes when you tell the truth.”

Ted Cruz blasts John Boehner for 'drunken, bloviated scorn' after former House Speaker called him a 'political terrorist'

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) exchanged a war of words with former House Speaker John Boehner. Cruz attacked the fellow Republican after a teaser video clip from an upcoming "CBS Sunday Morning" interview featured Boehner calling Cruz a "jerk" and a "political terrorist."

While out promoting his new book "On the House: A Washington Memoir" that is set for release on Tuesday, Boehner lambasted Trump allies Cruz and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) by calling them "political terrorists." Boehner hammered Jordan, criticizing the fellow Ohioan, "I just never saw a guy who spent more time tearing things apart and never building anything, never putting anything together."

In the interview with CBS News journalist John Dickerson, Boehner called Cruz the "ultimate false prophet," according to the Daily Caller.

"I don't beat anybody up, it's not really my style, except for that jerk," Boehner said of Cruz. "Perfect symbol, you know, of getting elected, making a lot of noise, draw a lot of attention to yourself, raise a lot of money, which means you're gonna go make more noise, raise more money."

Cruz fired back at Boehner on Twitter.

"The Swamp is unhappy," Cruz tweeted. "I wear with pride his drunken, bloviated scorn."

"Please don't cry," Cruz added, referring to several occasions when Boehner got emotional in public.

While recording the audiobook of his upcoming memoir, Boehner reportedly went off script and cursed at Cruz. Boehner allegedly told Cruz to "go f*** yourself."

Cruz responded to the report during his speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference in February.

"You know yesterday, John Boehner made some news," Cruz said at CPAC. "He suggested that I do something that was anatomically impossible. To which my response was, who's John Boehner?"

Boehner tweeted, "Poured myself a glass of something nice to read my audiobook. You can blame the wine for the expletives."
