Pro-Palestinian protesters actually toss their car keys into water while shutting down major bridge during rush hour

A mob of pro-Palestinian protesters during Thursday morning's rush hour stopped their vehicles and blocked traffic on the Bay Bridge — which connects San Francisco and Oakland — then proceeded to throw their car keys into the water below, forcing their vehicles to be towed.

What are the details?

The chaos began around 7:45 a.m. and ended four hours later with at least 70 arrests and 29 towed cars, KTVU-TV reported, adding that all lanes finally reopened just before noon.

"This was very well planned," California Highway Patrol Officer Art Montiel told the station.

More from KTVU:

The Arab Resource and Organizing Center was among the organizers of the Bay Bridge blockage, demanding a ceasefire, and calling out President Joe Biden to do more for the Palestinians — 11,000 of whom have so far died in the war between Israel and Hamas.

"There’s a genocide happening in #Gaza and @POTUS is hosting cocktail parties in #SanFrancisco," AROC tweeted. "Bay Area has shut down the Bay Bridge to demand #CeasefireNOW. No more $ for genocide."

Many chained themselves together, chanting "Free Palestine" and "We want justice." They also used a "sleeping dragon" maneuver, handcuffing themselves together with PVC pipe. The move makes it hard for police to cut off their cuffs. The CHP said dozens of protesters threw their car keys into the bay, forcing the vehicles to be towed away, creating more havoc on the bridge.

A KTVU cameraman managed to walk along the span of the bridge, livestreaming video of protesters lying in body bags, with fake blood smeared on them to represent the Palestinian lives lost in the war.

Aisha Mizar — an organizer with the Palestinian Youth Movement — told the station she was excited to be on the bridge and gaining attention for the cause. Believe it or not, Mizar added to KTVU that commuters didn't seem to mind not being able to move for more than an hour — although the station said that observation didn't match what angry and frustrated commuters said on social media.

Democrat John Fetterman waves Israeli flag right at furious, anti-Israel protesters getting handcuffed at US Capitol

Democrat U.S. Sen. John Fetterman on Thursday totally trolled anti-Israel protesters who were being handcuffed at the U.S. Capitol — simply by walking past them while waving a miniature Israeli flag.

"You're a horrible human being!" one of the protesters — all of whom wore Veterans Demand Ceasefire T-shirts — yelled at Fetterman as he approached the oh-so-annoyed demonstrators.

Here's what that looked and sounded like:

— (@)

They booed, they shouted, "Shame!" and they chanted, "What do we want? Ceasefire! When do we want it? Now!"

Fetterman, towering over all of them, appeared to stay silent as he walked past the demonstrators.

What else?

Progressive group About Face called Fetterman a "jackass" and added on X that the Democrat "saw veterans getting arrested and laughed. We asked to see @SenGillibrand. We were put in cuffs. We need leaders who listen to veterans demanding a #CeaseFireNow."

— (@)

This wasn't the first time Fetterman stood up for Israel.

Last month, he called out lawmakers from his own party who jumped the gun to blame Israel for a Gaza hospital bombing when it was soon revealed Hamas was behind the deadly act.

"It's truly disturbing that Members of Congress rushed to blame Israel for the hospital tragedy in Gaza," Fetterman said. "Who would take the word of a group that just massacred innocent Israeli civilians over our key ally?"

Also in October, Fetterman announced that he would highlight the identities of those Hamas abducted following its deadly surprise attack against Israel: "My office will display every last one of the innocent Israelis kidnapped by Hamas until they are safely returned home. We won't stop sharing their stories until then."

He also said last month, "Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire. We must support Israel in efforts to eliminate the Hamas terrorists who slaughtered innocent men, women, and children. Hamas does not want peace, they want to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized."

Jill Stein announces presidential bid then says Biden is 'complicit' in Palestinian 'genocide,' compares it to Holocaust

Green Party nominee for 2016, Jill Stein, announced her bid for the 2024 presidential election before calling for investigations into "war crimes" by the Israeli government while claiming President Biden has been complicit in a genocide against Palestine.

"The political system is broken. Over 60% of us now say the two-party establishment has failed us and we need a party that serves the people. I’m running for President to offer a better choice for the people," Stein said in a post on X.

"Both parties are a danger to our democracy," she continued. "Expanding censorship, criminalizing protest ... rigged their primaries," she went on.

Less than two hours later, Stein posted a different video saying that there was a "massacre" of Palestinians underway, describing "war crimes" by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that have "reached genocidal proportions."

"President Biden and bipartisan leaders are not only complicit, they are full partners in Netanyahu's war crimes," she added.

After calling for an investigation into Biden's role in the war, Stein then compared the conflict to the Holocaust.

"As a Jew who grew up just after the holocaust, with relatives who fled pogroms, and a grandfather named Israel, I take 'never again' seriously, and that means never again for anyone."

I want to speak to the massacre now taking place before our eyes in Gaza.

We call for an investigation of the Netanyahu regime’s war crimes as well as the role of Biden and US leaders in aiding and abetting them. And above all, these crimes must stop now.#Gaza #CeasefireNOW pic.twitter.com/iOoUtwwpdO

Stein famously raised approximately $7 million for a recount in three states (WI, PA, MI) after the 2016 presidential election. The efforts were backed by the Hillary Clinton campaign, but the recount was withdrawn weeks later by Stein.

“We do not have a voting system we can trust, and the recount was essentially stopped in its tracks,” Stein said at the time.

Only Wisconsin was recounted and resulted in the addition of 131 votes to President Trump's victory in that state.

"We'll put a pro-worker, anti-war, climate emergency agenda front and center in this election and on the ballot in November," Stein's campaign website read.

Capitol Hill staffers anonymously sign letter urging lawmakers to call for Israel-Hamas war ceasefire

A group of congressional staffers has anonymously signed onto a letter pressing lawmakers to call for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

"We are Jewish and Muslim staffers and allied staff across the Hill," the letter reads, according to a copy posted by Politico. "Today, we write to implore our bosses, Members of the United States Congress, to join calls for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas."

"We have appreciated seeing nearly every Member of Congress express quick and unequivocal solidarity with the Israeli people, but we are profoundly disturbed that such shows of humanity have barely been extended to the Palestinian people. Only a fraction have called for a ceasefire or at least cessation of hostilities. We believe that Palestinian civilians deserve to be remembered, mourned, and defended with the same rigor that Jewish Israelis deserve from the U.S. Congress," the letter states.

"We sign this letter anonymously out of concern for our personal safety, risk of violence, and the impact on our professional credibility on Capitol Hill," the letter reads before going on to state that the staffers are concerned they could lose their jobs if they openly sign the appeal for a ceasefire.

Reps. Cori Bush of Missouri and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts, who have both been among the Democratic lawmakers advocating for a ceasefire, expressed their support for the anonymous staffers who joined the letter.

"I applaud the courageous Muslim and Jewish congressional staffers who led a letter calling for a #CeasefireNOW. I'm aware of the risk you're taking to stand on the right side of history. I see you. We see you. You are loved, valued & appreciated," Bush tweeted.

"Grateful for the 400+ brave staffers, led by Muslim & Jewish staff, putting themselves at risk in pursuit of justice," Pressley tweeted. "As a former staff member, I know how hard it can be to do this work in the midst of your own fear, grief & trauma. We need a #CeasefireNOW to save lives."

Democratic Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania has disagreed with the notion of pressing for a ceasefire.

"Now is not the time to talk about a ceasefire," he said in a tweet. "We must support Israel in efforts to eliminate the Hamas terrorists who slaughtered innocent men, women, and children. Hamas does not want peace, they want to destroy Israel. We can talk about a ceasefire after Hamas is neutralized."

'We warned the protestors to stop': US Capitol Police arrests people who demonstrated in a congressional building

U.S. Capitol Police said that authorities arrested protestors who, despite being warned to stop, demonstrated in the Cannon House Office Building.

"A group of protesters are demonstrating inside the Cannon Rotunda. Demonstrations are not allowed inside Congressional Buildings," USCP tweeted Wednesday afternoon.

"We warned the protestors to stop demonstrating and when they did not comply we began arresting them," the police added. "Amongst these arrests, three people have been arrested and charged with Assault on a Police Officer during processing," another post noted. Police later announced that the rotunda was clear.

A USCP spokesperson reportedly noted that there were "upwards of approximately 300 arrests."

The protestors were apparently calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.

"Hundreds of Jews and allies with JVP and @IfNotNowOrg continue to be arrested inside while a crowd of thousands grows outside and demands a ceasefire," Jewish Voice for Peace tweeted.

"Jews and allies from [Jewish Voice for Peace] and IfNotNow are in Congress to demand: ceasefire now," IfNotNow tweeted.

Israel has been carrying out airstrikes on Gaza after Hamas terrorists invaded the Jewish state earlier this month and committed atrocities. Militants in Gaza have been firing rockets toward cities across the Jewish state, according to the Associated Press.

Some Democratic lawmakers have been advocating for a ceasefire.

"Thank you to our Jewish allies from across the country who joined in solidarity to call for a #CeasefireNOW," Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib commented when sharing another person's post about the protest in the congressional building.

President Joe Biden has announced plans to provide $100 million in humanitarian aid for Gaza and the West Bank, a move that has been blasted by some Republicans who contend that the assistance will end up in the hands of terrorists.
