WATCH: Elon Musk explains why journalists hate the X platform now

Elon Musk has become an enemy of the left for rejecting the government’s censorship agenda by prioritizing free speech on the X platform.

Now, Musk has made even more enemies for his “democratization” of X.

In an interview with Linda Yaccarino, Musk explained to the X CEO why journalists specifically are furious about his reformed blue check-mark policy.

Under the former Twitter regime, a blue check mark signified the user’s authenticity and notability — a false honorary badge reserved for “verified identities.” Now, under Musk’s ownership, a blue check mark simply means “the account has an active subscription to X Premium and meets [X’s] eligibility requirements.”

“It’s the same for everyone,” Musk told Yaccarino, but “the thing that a lot of traditional journalists don't like is they don't like being put on the same platform as the average citizen. They don't like their voice being the same.”

“Yes, there are several news organizations who don't like your push for democratization and what they believe is the devaluing of the badges [check marks] because they were differentiated,” Yaccarino confirmed.

“I think it’s very important to elevate citizen journalism. I think it’s very important to hear the voice of the people — the actual voice of the people, not the filtered voice of the people. Let the people choose the narrative, and let the people determine the truth and not five editor in chiefs of major publications,” Musk responded.

Dave Rubin calls Musk’s democratization of X “[shifting] where the megaphone is.”

He explains that in an ideal world, we could rely on “a group of journalists” who could “make sense of the world,” allowing the average citizen to “vote appropriately” and “have a sense of what is happening in the world.”

But true journalism seems to be a thing of the past. We can’t trust journalists to report the facts anymore.

“Unfortunately, the journalist layer — the media layer — they do not deserve [our] trust anymore,” says Dave. That’s why Musk “democratized” the X platform.

Elon Musk talks 'the biggest untold narrative' with Ben Shapiro

“The most nefarious type of fake news is when they do not cover something,” says Dave Rubin, giving the example of the mainstream media neglecting to report on the border crisis.

“That's a type of fake news because they are controlling what the narrative is,” he continues, calling it “deception by choice” via “deciding what people can pay attention to.”

People like Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Elon Musk, however, have combated this issue by going directly to the border and sharing their honest findings with the American public, which the “mainstream media” is “pissed about.”

In a recent discussion with Ben Shapiro, Musk shared his thoughts about issues regarding the “untold narrative” and what he’s doing to counteract it.

Musk explained that his management style of the X platform is designed to “increase the so-called Overton window.”

“Anything that's sort of sensitive or that the media ignores, the public can then raise it on the X platform and make that an actual topic of discussion,” he told Shapiro.

Dave is a fan of this kind of “citizen journalism."

“It sort of bubbles up from the bottom, and then the people decide, ‘Boy that’s interesting. Why wasn’t that on CNN?”’

Elon Musk exposes journalist’s real motivations

Elon Musk has introduced a new “blue check” to Twitter, and journalists are not happy.

The blue check costs $8 per month and can be bought by anyone. Despite the outrage from journalists all over the site, Musk does not seem to care.

In fact, he believes the blue check is a great idea, as he believes “the same standard should apply” to him as to everyone else on Twitter.

Musk says that the reason journalists are angered is because “they don’t like being put on the same platform as the average citizen.”

He continues, “They don’t like their voice being the same. They’re pretty mad about that.”

“I think it’s very important,” Musk says, “to elevate citizen journalism. I think it’s very important to hear the voice of the people — the actual voice of the people — not the filtered voice of the people. And let the people choose the narrative and let the people determine the truth and not five editors in chief of major publications.”

“Do you want to know what’s really going on,” he asks, “or do you want their opinion?”

Dave Rubin agrees with Musk, lightly mocking the journalists who seem to believe their voices are more important than the average citizens'.

He’s joined by Substack writer Rav Arora, who adds, “We should really hold our thoughts and prayers for the blue checkmark genocide of all these people who can’t afford $8 a month.”

“This is the point where I get, where like I’m looking at all these people melting down and I’m like I need to get off Twitter, because this is a fake reality. This is like a hallucination. This is not real. Like, this is like the most trivial of trivial problems, and I need to go outside,” Arora says.
