Democrats push bill to ban Trump and others from US Capitol

A couple of House Democrats are pushing a measure to bar former President Donald Trump and multiple other figures from entering the U.S. Capitol.

"The Sergeant at Arms of the House of Representatives, the Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate, and the United States Capitol Police shall take such actions as may be necessary to prohibit President Donald John Trump, Steve Bannon, Mark Meadows, Dan Scavino, Peter Navarro, Jeffrey Clark, John Eastman, Kenneth Cheseboro, and Rudy Giuliani from entering the United States Capitol," the text of the concurrent resolution states.

Democratic Rep. Nikema Williams of Georgia introduced the measure, and Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell of California is an original cosponsor.

"This isn't even my bill — it's a brilliant bill written by @RepNikema. Which, of course I support!" Swalwell tweeted. "And by the way, when the village nearly burns down, we don’t invite the arsonist back to visit. Duh."

Williams tweeted, "@RepSwalwell co-sponsored my legislation, but I'll sign on to his analogy: let's keep the arsonists out of the Capitol y'all."

“👋🏾 Hey @FoxNews, glad to see you read my bill (even if you didn't read my name)! @RepSwalwell co-sponsored my legislation, but I'll sign on to his analogy: let's keep the arsonists out of the Capitol y'all.”
— Congresswoman Nikema Williams (@Congresswoman Nikema Williams) 1677079356

On the heels of the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, Williams put forward a similar concurrent resolution that called for barring Trump from entering the Capitol after his term ended.

Trump, who has announced that he is running for president again, referred to Swalwell as an "idiot."

"This idiot is now calling (for publicity purposes only!) for some Great American Patriots, including me, to be banned from the Capitol," Trump said of Swalwell in a statement. "Fortunately, people understand that Swalwell is a 'low life,' not respected by anybody, and merely used for entertainment reasons by the Fake News Media to continue their assault on President Donald J. Trump, and America!"

Enes Freedom says LeBron James bows to China and has '0 Morals'

Basketball star LeBron James made history on Tuesday when he broke the NBA record for most career points scored, but former NBA player Enes Freedom is publicly slamming James.

Freedom accused James of bowing to China, tweeting a list that included, "38,388 Points," "0 Morals," "0 Values," "0 Principles," "0 Empathy," and "1 Bow Down to #China."

"Congratulations to @KingJames," Freedom wrote.

"People get mad when I speak the truth because I'm the only athlete who actually speaks the truth," he wrote in another post. "I don't care about your endorsement deals or your dirty money. You can NOT buy me #CCP! Don't expect me to respect you or your game when your shoes are literally made by SLAVE KIDS."

Freedom is a staunch critic of human rights abuses around the globe, including those perpretuated in China. He has described Chinese President Xi Jinping as a "brutal dictator."

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy invited Freedom to the State of the Union address as a guest.

"@EnesFreedom loves the USA. He understands freedom. And he is willing to sacrifice his job in order to stand up against the Chinese Communist Party. I was proud to have him as one of my guests for State of the Union," McCarthy tweeted.

Freedom expressed his gratitude for McCarthy's "friendship, leadership and support."

Democrats don 'ABORTION' pins with heart-shaped cutouts

Democratic lawmakers are openly touting their pro-choice position by donning "ABORTION" pins.

Leftist Sen. Ed Markey of Massachusetts announced that he wore an "ABORTION" pin to President Joe Biden's State of the Union address on Tuesday — the lawmaker posted a photo of the pin, which spells out the word "ABORTION" and features a heart-shaped cut out in one of the letters.

"I'm wearing my abortion pin from @PPFA to tonight's State of the Union address. Abortion is essential healthcare and we need to codify this right," the Democrat tweeted.

The stunt elicited reactions of revulsion from many on social media, with Ben Shapiro calling the move "vile" and the House Judiciary GOP account labeling it "disgusting."

"What's disgusting is the GOP's obsession with controlling people’s bodies," Markey responded.

Others also commented on the senator's pro-abortion post.

"Democrat man wears pin showing his love of abortion, which violently ends human life in the mother's womb," Mollie Hemingway tweeted.

Circling the heart-shaped cutout in the pin, LifeNews.com noted, "Actually, abortion stops a beating heart."

"Love the cute little heart! WHOOPS! Next year why not just rebrand it as KILLKIDZ? And add a fun rainbow GROOMER pin!" Eric Metaxas sarcastically wrote.

"Nobody wears an American flag pin because they want patriotism to be safe, legal & rare," Dan McLaughlin tweeted.

In addition to wearing the pin, Markey said that he brought an "abortion rights activist" to the speech as his guest.

“.@_KateDineen and I are ready to hear @POTUS give his SOTU address. With attacks on abortion rights in our courts and our states, it’s never been more urgent to guarantee abortion access and codify this essential right. Thank you Kate for joining me and for sharing your story.”

Democratic Rep. Madeleine Dean of Pennsylvania also posted a photo of herself sporting one of the pins. "I say the word, I wear the word. Abortion care is health care. Abortion care saves lives," Dean tweeted on Tuesday. She chose an "abortion patient advocate" as her State of the Union guest.

"Every abortion stops a beating heart. Pretty ghoulish to support violence in the womb," Hemingway pointed out in response to Dean's post.

"Because the Republican agenda is to keep our union divided, then it must be through the pursuit of justice that we will heal and strengthen it—economic justice, climate justice, health justice, and racial justice. 'Using correct pronouns is about respecting human dignity': Radical leftist Democrats celebrate 'International Pronouns Day'

Leftist lawmakers supported the LGBT agenda on Wednesday by sharing their preferred pronouns while marking "International Pronouns Day."

The woke lawmakers asserted that using someone's "correct pronouns" shows respect.

But in fact, radical gender ideology actually defies truth, reality, and objective biology.

"Pronouns are not a preference, they are someone's true identity. As we celebrate #PronounsDay, let’s commit to respecting people’s gender identities. Using someone's correct pronouns is an easy way to be an ally," Rep. Jan Schakowsky of Illinois tweeted.

“Pronouns are not a preference, they are someone’s true identity. As we celebrate #PronounsDay, let’s commit to respecting people’s gender identities. Using someone’s correct pronouns is an easy way to be an ally.”

"It's International Pronoun Day, a reminder to ask for pronouns and show respect by using those people prefer. Together, we can celebrate people’s multiple, intersecting identities," Rep. Andy Levin of Michigan tweeted

"Today, I join the @LGBTEqCaucus in recognizing #PronounsDay. Referring to people by their preferred pronouns is about showing respect and honoring how individuals choose to present themselves. Every person should be treated with dignity," Rep. Gwen Moore of Wisconsin tweeted.

"Today we celebrate #PronounsDay! Using someone’s correct pronouns matters – it’s about respect. That's why we need to normalize sharing and asking for pronouns. My pronouns are she/her/hers," Rep. Sara Jacobs of California tweeted.

Tweets from Reps. Carolyn B. Maloney of New York and Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida claimed that, "Using correct pronouns is about respecting human dignity. However you identify, your pronouns are valid."

"My name is Senator Ed Markey and my pronouns are He/Him/His. On International Pronouns Day, and every day, we must treat everyone with dignity and respect—this includes using their correct pronouns. Let's create a world where everyone can live comfortably as their authentic self," the senator from Massachusetts tweeted.

"Using someone's correct pronouns isn't just a sign of respect, it's a way to create a more inclusive and affirming environment for all. My pronouns are she/her. #ShareYourPronouns #PronounsDay," Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington tweeted.

Cori Bush of Missouri tweeted her own pronouns and added, "Using someone’s correct pronouns is not only a sign of respect — it is essential to creating a more inclusive and affirming environment for all."

"International Pronouns Day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace," according to pronounsday.org. "Referring to people by the pronouns they determine for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Democratic Rep. Cori Bush claims that 'We're facing threats from a growing far-right, white supremacist movement across Missouri and the country'

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri asserted in a Friday tweet that there is a metastasizing "white supremacist movement" in her state and the U.S. at large.

"We're facing threats from a growing far-right, white supremacist movement across Missouri and the country," Bush tweeted. "But I've seen the power we hold when we come together. We've proven it & we'll never back down. There's so much at stake. Let's continue this work. Together."

Her post included a campaign advertisement — the left-wing lawmaker, who entered office last year, is currently running for re-election.

In a statement last month about the U.S. Supreme Court, Bush declared that "The Court's jurisprudence of white supremacy is unjust, profound, and dangerous."

In a tweet posted to her @RepCori account on Friday, Bush claimed that "codifying the right to abortion" would "further reproductive, economic, and racial justice."

At a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing earlier this week, one of the witnesses, University of California, Berkeley School of Law professor Khiara M. Bridges, accused GOP Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri of pursuing a "line of questioning" that she described as "transphobic."

Bush hailed Bridges, calling the professor her "new personal hero."

"I'd like to introduce everyone to my new personal hero, Professor Khiara Bridges," Bush tweeted. "Our trans community members and all of us in Missouri who hold them close to our hearts as their rights are ruthlessly opposed by the likes of insurrectionist saluter Hawley thank you, Professor."

'Israel is a democracy': President Biden says Democrats who accuse Israel of being an apartheid state are 'wrong'

During an interview with Channel 12 News Israel, President Joe Biden disagreed with those in the Democratic Party who accuse Israel of being an apartheid state.

"I think they're wrong," Biden said. "Israel is a democracy. Israel is our ally."

Biden also said that he does not believe there is any chance that either the Democratic Party or a large contingent of the GOP would turn its back on Israel.

There is a rift in the Democratic Party between the many Democrats who support the nation of Israel and those who accuse Israel of being guilty of apartheid.

"The Israeli apartheid government’s ongoing ethnic cleansing seeks to degrade Palestinian humanity and break the will of the people to be free," Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan said, according to a May press release.

Democratic Rep. Cori Bush of Missouri has also accused Israel of apartheid. "Congress must stop our tax dollars from funding Israel's apartheid practices," she said in a January tweet.

Saying There’s A Border ‘Surge’ Is White Supremacist ‘Cause Migrant Kids Aren’t ‘Insurgents,’ Says AOC

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claimed there is no "surge" at the southern border, while also saying the term is indicative of white supremacy.

GOP lawmaker grills DHS secretary: If Biden sent FEMA to the border, doesn’t that mean it's an emergency?

A Republican congresswoman on Wednesday pressed Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on the Biden administration's deployment of the Federal Emergency Management Agency to the border, wanting him to admit that the situation is an "emergency."

Mayorkas was called to testify before the House Homeland Security Committee, answering questions about Department of Homeland Security operations and responding to lawmakers' concerns over the migrant crisis at the southern border.

At the hearing, Mayorkas declined to characterize the recent surge of migrant apprehensions and overwhelmed border protection facilities as a "crisis" or even an "emergency," despite the Biden administration deploying FEMA to the border to assist with caring for thousands of unaccompanied children now in the federal government's custody.

During questions, Rep. Kat Cammack (R-Fla.) asked if Mayokas could "tell me what FEMA stands for?"

"Federal Emergency Management Administration," Mayorkas replied. (The "A" in FEMA actually stands for "Agency.")

"Excellent, so, since FEMA has now deployed to the border, that would stand to reason that there is an emergency on the border, correct?" Cammack followed up.

"We have a very serious challenge at the border, and we are tackling it," Mayorkas said, displeasure evident in his tone.

Later, Cammack shared the story of her high school classmate Amber Scott, who was kidnapped by an illegal immigrant who had been deported multiple times.

"I think when you have policies that incentivize folks to come over illegally and we don't have the proper mechanisms in place to protect our borders — as you say, FEMA has been deployed and they are an emergency agency — that kind of impact has resounding effects," she told Mayorkas before asking, "How many more Ambers have to be kidnapped across America before you will take action?"

Mayorkas was offended by the question.

"Congresswoman, I find that question to be extraordinarily disrespectful," he told her. "Disrespectful not only to me, but disrespectful to the men and women of the Department of Homeland Security and to all the frontline personnel throughout this country who dedicate themselves to the safety and security of the American people."

"I'm sorry you feel that way," Cammack replied. "I'm sure the American people feel very disrespected about the border situation they're facing right now."

Republican lawmakers grilled Mayorkas over the Biden administration's handling of the migrant crisis at the southern border. They accused President Joe Biden's policies of incentivizing illegal immigration, charging that the U.S. border is effectively an open border because of Biden's reversal of President Donald Trump's policies.

The "border is secure and the border is not open," Mayorkas told lawmakers, acknowledging that the situation is "undoubtedly difficult."

Addressing the migrant surge in his opening remarks, the secretary said, "Most are single adults who are expelled within hours back to Mexico, pursuant to the CDC's public health authority."

""Families who are apprehended at the border are also immediately expelled under the same public health authority unless we confront at times a limitation on Mexico's capacity to receive them," he added.

As for unaccompanied children, the Biden administration ended Trump's policy of sending them back to Mexico. U.S. Customs and Border Patrol is currently in custody of 4,200 children, who have been placed in detention centers, facing reportedly horrific conditions as they wait to be transferred to the Office of Refugee Resettlement for processing and placement with family and sponsors already in the country.

"Their families made the heart-wrenching decision to send them on a journey across Mexico to provide them with a better, safer future," Mayorkas said.

Republicans said Biden's policies were incentivizing migrants to travel to the U.S., contributing to the dire situation in overwhelmed DHS and HHS facilities.

"Through irresponsible rhetoric and actions by this administration, worsening unprecedented crisis unfold during a pandemic, the situation at the border continues to get worse every day, with inadequate action or even proper acknowledgment of the severity of the situation," committee ranking member Rep. John Katko (R-N.Y.) said.

Another Republican, Rep. Michael McCaul (Texas), credited President Trump with successfully deterring illegal immigrants from entering the country.

But Mayorkas criticized the Trump approach, saying, "Sometimes, the tools of deterrence defy values and principles for which we all stand. And one of those tools of deterrence that the Trump administration employed was deplorable and absolutely unacceptable," adding that Trump's family separation policies were the real "humanitarian crisis."

"A crisis is when a nation is willing to rip a 9-year-old child out of the hands of his or her parent and separate that family to deter future migration," he said. "That, to me, is a humanitarian crisis. And what the president has committed to, and what I am committed to and execute, is to ensure that we have an immigration system that works and that migration to our country is safe, orderly, and humane."

Committee Democrats blamed the Trump administration for causing the current migrant crisis.

Chairman Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) said Mayorkas and Biden's DHS have been "left to deal with the mess the last administration left behind."

"Let me be clear, the Trump administration's cruel, shortsighted policies directly contributed to the situation at the border now," Thompson said.

Rashida Tlaib and the 'Squad' lead charge against expanding national security powers after Capitol riot

Ten progressive Democrats in the House of Representatives are calling on congressional leaders to refrain from any attempts to expand the United States government's national security powers in the wake of the Jan. 6 riot in the Capitol.

The lawmakers, led by Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.), sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) warning that an expansion of national security powers could threaten American civil liberties. The letter comes as a bipartisan group of lawmakers will re-introduce the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act to give federal law enforcement more powers to act against domestic terrorism.

"The Trump mob's success in breaching the Capitol was not due to a lack of resources at the disposal of federal law enforcement, and in this moment we must resist the erosion of our civil liberties and Constitutional freedoms, however well-intentioned proposed security reforms may be," the Democrats wrote. "While we are not necessarily opposed to reforms to address the law enforcement and intelligence communities' inability or unwillingness to seriously confront domestic white nationalist violence, we firmly believe that the national security and surveillance powers of the U.S. government are already too broad, undefined, and unaccountable to the people."

— Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (@Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib)1611094591.0

The letter comes as some politicians and national security experts have characterized the Capitol riot as an act of domestic terror and described the participants with terms once reserved for ISIS and Al Qaeda. The events of Jan. 6 have even been compared to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

"Don't dare call them protesters," President Joe Biden said the day after the riot, speaking in Wilmington, Delaware. "They were a riotous mob. Insurrectionists. Domestic terrorists. It's that basic. It's that simple."

Last Wednesday, as she presided over impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump, Pelosi also called the rioters "domestic terrorists." Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said that the "insurrectionists" who invaded the Capitol building should be added to the federal "no fly" list. "It is an attempt to stop democracy as we know it, using domestic terrorism to assault our system of government, thereby qualifying these insurrectionists for the No-Fly List," Schumer wrote in a letter to the FBI and the Transportation Security Administration. Other Democrats have made similar remarks.

Commentators in the media have called for a new "Domestic War on Terror" and for law enforcement to adopt tactics used against Islamic terrorism abroad to fight "white supremacy" and extremism in the United States. CNN national security analyst Juliette Kayyem labeled Trump the "spiritual leader for domestic terrorists" before becoming their "operational leader" on Jan. 6. She called for the U.S. government to implement counterterrorism strategies against those Trump supporters who went to the Capitol.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) is leading the effort in Congress to expand national security powers by passing the Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act. The legislation would establish new offices in the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Justice, and the FBI to investigate domestic terrorism in the U.S.

"It is not enough to just condemn hate, we need to equip law enforcement with the tools needed to identify threats and prevent violent acts of domestic terrorism," said the bill's sponsor in the House, Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Ill.). "The Domestic Terrorism Prevention Act improves coordination between our federal agencies and makes sure they are focused on the most serious domestic threats."

In response Tlaib, joined by other members of the progressive "Squad," Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), and Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), wrote to express their opposition to any effort to expand the government's national security powers.

"To expand the government's national security powers once again at the expense of the human and civil rights of the American people would only serve to further undermine our democracy, not protect it," their letter states.

The letter goes on to cite the House Un-American Activities Committee, the FBI's Counterintelligence Program, the USA Patriot Act, and the FBI's Assessment Authority and Operation IRON FIST programs as examples of "tools used for the mass violation of human and civil rights."

They propose the following initiatives instead of new legislation to expand the government's power:

 1. Fully investigate the violent Jan. 6, 2021, attack in a non-partisan, transparent manner.
 2. Commit today to release all findings from any investigations into the attack to the public.
 3. Recognize white nationalist and QAnon groups as the national security threat that they are and take action to combat them through existing laws, powers and regulations.
 4. Recognize that the reason that the threat posed by these groups hasn't already been adequately addressed is because of a deeply ingrained unwillingness and/or hesitancy to act against these groups within all three branches of government, especially in the law enforcement community, including the Department of Justice, FBI, Department of Homeland Security, and intelligence agencies, not the result of insufficient domestic national security and/or surveillance powers.

"In the face of great tragedy, we call on you to reject reactionary demands to further erode the rights and liberties of the American people," the letter concluded. "For our part, we pledge to oppose any attempts to expand the domestic national security or surveillance powers of the United States government at the expense of the rights of the people with every tool available to us as duly elected Members of Congress."

GOP House members 'furious' over now having to pass through metal detectors before entering chamber

Several House Republicans are reportedly "furious" that they now have to pass through metal detectors before entering the lower chamber. The extra security measure was added in response to last week's deadly attack on the Capitol building by a pro-Trump mob.

What are the details?

NBC News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell tweeted Tuesday afternoon, "I never thought I'd see this. Metal detectors have been set up for members before they enter the House floor. A clear indication that Democratic leadership does not trust some right-wing House members."

The reporter's message included a picture of the new setup.

The first Republican to resist was freshman Rep. Lauren Boebert (Colo.), who earlier this month made headlines about bringing her own firearm into work.

As TheBlaze previously reported, members of Congress may legally bring their guns into the Capitol building, but politicians are prohibited from carrying weapons into the House chamber.

According to CNN, Boebert ended up in a "standoff with Capitol Police at the newly installed Metal Detectors outside the chamber doors," after she "refused to offer the bag over to be searched."

Reporter Ryan Nobles reported that Boebert was "respectful but defiant," and was eventually allowed to enter although it is unclear whether she agreed to comply with the search.

CNN's Manu Raju tweeted later, "House GOP furious at new mags outside the chamber. Reps. Markwayne Mullin (Okla.) and Steve Womack (Ark.) erupted at Capitol Police as they were forced to go through the mags. Womack shouted 'I was physically restrained!' And Mullin said 'it's my constitutional right' and 'they cannot stop me.'"

MSNBC reported that "Republican Reps. [Louie] Gohmert, [Steve] Stivers, [Van] Taylor, Boebert, [Debbie] Lesko, and [Larry] Bucshon were among those seen not complying with police at added security checkpoints in the U.S. Capitol."

Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) tweeted later, "For members of Congress to enter the floor of the U.S. House, we now have to go through intense security measures, on top of the security we already go through. These new provisions include searches and being wanded like criminals. We now live in [Nancy] Pelosi's communist America!"
