Jay Leno files for conservatorship over wife's estate amid her dementia battle

Jay Leno filed for a conservatorship over his wife’s estate as she continues to battle dementia.

On Friday, Leno filed for conservatorship over the estate of Mavis Leno at Stanley Mosk Courthouse in Los Angeles, California.

“Unfortunately, Mavis has been progressively losing capacity and orientation to space and time for several years,” the petition for the conservatorship states, according to NBC News.

“As Mavis’s current condition renders her incapable of executing the estate plan,” the petition continues. “Jay has petitioned the Court to be appointed conservator of Mavis’s estate for the sole purpose of filing a petition for substituted judgment on her behalf in order to ensure her desires concerning the disposition of her assets upon her death are realized.”

The filing says she is incapable because she "suffers from dementia, a major neurocognitive disorder."

"Jay is fully capable of continuing his support for Mavis’s physical and financial needs as he has throughout their marriage," the documents read.

The court documents state that Leno seeks to create a trust for their joint estate that would "ensure Mavis has managed assets sufficient to provide for her care" should he die before her.

Leno, 73, claimed to have always handled the couple's finances since they married over 43 years ago.

The celebrity couple do not have any children.

Leno's estate plan would also provide financial support to Mavis's brother – who is "her sole living heir aside from Jay."

"The conservatorship estate will not be funded with any assets and is being established for the sole purpose of filing a petition for substituted judgment to ensure Mavis’s estate plan is established and that Mavis’s future care is provided for under the terms of a living trust," the documents say.

The filing does not reveal when the 77-year-old Mavis was first diagnosed with dementia.

A doctor's report included in the court documents, dated Nov. 28, 2023, describes how dementia has affected Mavis.

The doctor wrote, "It is my professional opinion that, due to her condition, Mavis is unable to meaningfully participate in the hearing on the Petition to Appoint a Probate Conservator nor would she understand the nature, force or effect of the hearing should she attend."

The doctor also noted that Mavis "lacks the capacity to give informed consent to any form of medical treatment."

The comedian and talk show host reportedly began the conservatorship process in November.

There will be a hearing on April 9.

Britney Spears Says Abortion Was Among The ‘Most Agonizing’ Experiences Of Her Life

'To this day, it's one of the most agonizing things I have ever experienced in my life,' Spears said of the abortion she was pressured into.

Britney Spears posts VERY STRANGE video, leaving many wondering if it was wise to free her

Pop icon Britney Spears is just as famous for her music as she is for her ever-prominent presence in the tabloids.

Back in 2020, Spears was finally freed from the controlling conservatorship her father wielded over her, but since her liberation, she’s been doing some rather bizarre things.

And when we say bizarre, we mean even more bizarre than her typical doings.

Sara Gonzales plays a recent clip of Spears, who’s wearing very little clothing (nothing new there), while dancing with large kitchen knives.

The video sparked serious criticism and raised questions regarding the decision to end her conservatorship.

Apparently, “Shakira danced with knives during a concert,” which is where Spears allegedly drew inspiration.

“Her excuse was like, 'I was just trying to do what Shakira did, I was just kind of emulating her, they're not real knives, Halloween is soon, [so] don't worry about it,'" reports Sara.

“But everyone is now up in arms like, ‘Oh my God, we did the wrong thing by trying to convince a judge to release her conservatorship,”’ she mocks.

“I still disagree. … You have the right to be a crazy person in this country.”

“If she wasn't famous, nobody would give her a conservatorship based off of what I've seen,” Sara continues.

Blaze Media editor in chief Matt Peterson admits that he might be “old man-ing this,” but he can’t understand why anyone would care about “Britney Spears doing a knife dance at her mansion” considering all of the other madness on the internet.

“Have you seen the internet? Have you been on the internet? There's a lot of other things wrong with it, too,” he says.

However, “I think that Taylor Swift should get a conservatorship to stay the heck away from the NFL and its football players,” he jokes.

TMZ, on the other hand, finds Britney’s “fascination with knives” a cause for serious concern. A previous report by the tabloid revealed that Spears is apparently paranoid that someone will hurt her, which is why she “keeps [knives] all around the house.”

But that’s not convincing enough for Matt.

“Were some of the people in the riot videos, did any of them have knives?” he asks. “I think I see a lot of people who need conservatorships … roaming around the country.”

Touché.

Britney Spears shares tragic news of miscarried 'miracle baby' on Instagram

Britney Spears announced that she lost the “miracle baby” that she was pregnant with.

The 40-year-old pop star and cultural icon shared the news on her Instagram page on Saturday, Fox News reported.

In a joint statement with her fiancé Sam Asghari, Spears wrote, “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that we have lost our miracle baby early in the pregnancy. This is a devastating time for any parent. Perhaps we should have waited to announce until we were further along however we were overly excited to share the good news.”

The post continued, “Our love for each other is our strength. We will continue trying to expand our beautiful family. We are grateful for all of your support. We kindly ask for privacy during this difficult time.”

In mid-April, Spears announced via Instagram that she was pregnant by posting a picture of a pink teacup surrounded by flowers.

The post’s caption jokingly bemoaned the ironic loss of weight for vacation only to regain it in the coming months.

Spears wrote, “I lost so much weight to go on my Maui trip only to gain it back. I thought ‘Geez … what happened to my stomach ???’ My husband said ‘No you’re food pregnant silly.’”

In the post’s caption, Spears said, “I obviously won’t be going out as much due to the [paparazzi] getting their money shot of me like they unfortunately already have … it’s hard because when I was pregnant I had perinatal depression … I have to say it’s absolutely horrible.”

She continued, “Women didn’t talk about it back then … some people considered it dangerous if a woman complained like that with a baby inside her … but now women talk about it everyday … thank Jesus we don’t have to keep that pain a reserved proper secret.”

Spears currently has two sons, aged 16 and 15, with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

In the past, the pop star has mentioned that she is open to having more children. In November 2021, she shared that she was “thinking about having another baby” and suggested that she hoped it might be a girl.

During the 2021 legal battle to dissolve Spears’ conservatorship, it was revealed that she had an IUD put in place and her conservators would not let her “go to the doctor and take it out.”

Spears’ conservatorship was terminated in November.

The #FreeBritney Movement Is Bigger Than Britney

The Britney Spears conservatorship saga has sparked debate about the role of legal guardianships and individual liberties.

Glenn Beck: Here's why YOU should fight to #FreeBritney

The #FreeBritney movement isn't some conspiracy theory concocted by the now-grown teenage girls of the early 2000s. It's a movement you should be fighting for, too.

On the "Glenn TV" show Friday, Glenn explained how a "conservatorship" works and why it is the antithesis to American freedom. Citizens should have the freedom to control their own lives, decisions, and finances, and if government agencies can take those freedoms away from Britney Spears, what could they do to you? It's time we all come together to #FreeBritney.
