How an Arkansas dad accused of shooting 67-year-old male who was with his missing daughter, just 14, could beat murder charge

An Arkansas father was arrested last week after allegedly shooting dead a 67-year-old man who was in a car with his missing 14-year-old daughter.

Aaron Spencer, 36, reported to police around 1 a.m. last Tuesday that his daughter was missing, according to a press release from the Lonoke County Sheriff's Office.

'Aaron Spencer's legal team will clearly argue what's called a heat of passion.'

"While en route, deputies were notified that the father, Aaron Spencer, had located the juvenile in a vehicle with Michael Fosler," the news release stated.

The sheriff's office said there was a "confrontation" between Spencer and Fosler.

Spencer is accused of shooting Fosler. Police said Fosler was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spencer was taken into custody and transported to the Lonoke County Detention Center.

Jail records show Spencer posted bail and was released Oct. 9, USA Today reported.

The Lonoke County Sheriff's Office said Spencer is facing a preliminary charge of first-degree murder.

Lonoke County Sheriff John Staley said in a video shared Oct. 10, "Currently, official charges have not been filed. I have not, nor will I advocate for any specific charges."

Staley added, "This is a tragic situation, and my thoughts and prayers are with all those involved."

Staley said that an investigation is ongoing and “only limited details can be released” at this time.

On Friday, the sheriff told USA Today that Fosler had been arrested by another agency in July and booked for internet stalking of a child and sexual assault. Fosler was scheduled to appear in court in December.

Fox News asked Attorney Brian Claypool — a social and legal commentator — if it's possible that Spencer could beat a murder charge.

"Aaron Spencer's legal team will clearly argue what's called a heat of passion. That is a defense in the state of Arkansas," Claypool explained. "And what that really means is that Spencer committed the alleged murder in the midst of an emotional disturbance."

Claypool added: "Heat of passion reduces a charge of first-degree or second-degree murder down to manslaughter. That would be a big deal for Aaron Spencer because that can make the difference between getting convicted and spending 30 years to life in jail or serving five to 20 years in jail."

Claypool noted that the confrontation between the two men could allow the defense to argue that their client shot Fosler in self-defense.

He highlighted that most self-defense laws throughout the country apply when there is an "imminent fear of grave bodily harm to either themself or a family member."

Spencer's wife — Heather Spencer — said she had launched a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for her husband's legal defense but said the campaign was taken down.

GoFundMe's terms of service state: "You agree that you will not use the services or platform to raise funds or establish any fundraiser for the purposes of promoting or involving the legal defense of financial and violent crimes, including those related to money laundering, murder, robbery, assault, battery, sex crimes, or crimes against minors."

Heather Spencer wrote on Facebook, "We have been absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we have received since this incident. I keep saying that we are private people, because we are. It’s been incredibly hard to see this posted all over social media. While we want and need the public’s help for Aaron’s case, we are still trying to process as a family what has happened to our child. We have been trying to navigate this the best we can for everyone."

Ex-ballerina — who said she killed estranged husband in self-defense — convicted in 'Black Swan' murder trial

A former ballerina accused of fatally shooting her estranged husband has been convicted in the case that has been dubbed the "Black Swan" murder trial.

Ashley Benefield, 33, had been charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of her husband, Doug Benefield.

The pair met at a Republican Party fundraiser in 2016 when Ashley was a 24-year-old ballet dancer and Doug was a 54-year-old Navy veteran and technology consultant, according to People magazine. The couple got married just 13 days later.

In a Florida courtroom Tuesday night, a Manatee County jury convicted Benefield of the lesser crime of manslaughter. In Florida, manslaughter carries a 15-year-maximum prison sentence.

After the verdict was announced, the judge revoked Benefield's $100,000 bond and remanded her to the custody of the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Her sentencing date has yet to be set.

Benefield fired a gun at her 58-year-old estranged husband in 2020 at her mother's home in Bradenton, Florida.

Benefield’s lawyer Neil Taylor argued that the fatal shooting was in self-defense after a history of the husband's abusive behavior.

In his closing argument Tuesday, Taylor said his client filed "complaint after complaint after complaint calling Doug Benefield’s behavior to the attention of authorities with no results. Over and over again with no relief," according to NBC News.

In his opening statements, Taylor described the estranged husband as "a manipulative, cunning, and abusive man."

“Thirty years older than Ashley, he was obsessed with her, and he successfully portrayed himself as he was not in an effort to win her hand in marriage,” Taylor said. “Despite promoting himself as a religious, honorable, and decent human being, Benefield was a manipulative, cunning, and abusive man who insisted, absolutely insisted on control.”

Taylor told the courtroom that Doug once fired a handgun into a kitchen ceiling in an attempt to get Ashley to stop talking, threw a loaded gun at her, punched their dog unconscious, and regularly carried a concealed firearm that was always "ready to fire," WFLA-TV reported.

“The only thing that is going to have been established here beyond a reasonable doubt is that Douglas Benefield was a violent abuser, Ashley Benefield’s efforts to placate him [were] absolutely consistent with what abused women do, especially when a child is involved, and that Ashley’s result and resource to deadly force was justified under the circumstances,” Taylor said.

The pair met at a Republican Party fundraiser in 2016 when Ashley was a 24-year-old ballet dancer and Doug was a 54-year-old Navy veteran and technology consultant, according to People magazine. The couple got married just 13 days later.

Eva Benefield — Doug's 23-year-old daughter from a previous marriage — said during the "Black Swan" murder trial, "They were just with each other all the time. It was very lovey-dovey. They were very touchy-feely PDAs. Any event with school or extracurricular that I was in, they were together. They never left each other's side."

Less than a year later, Ashley became pregnant with Doug's child.

About a year into their marriage, the couple started a ballet company — which was said to be Ashely's "dream."

Assistant State Attorney Suzanne O’Donnell told the jury, “All within a year of being married, they have done a vasectomy reversal, gotten pregnant, started a ballet, and the ballet has crumbled.”

The marriage also reportedly deteriorated.

In 2017, the couple obtained a court order that barred them from contacting each other, O’Donnell said.

During her pregnancy, the ex-ballerina moved from the pair's South Carolina residence to her mother's home outside of Sarasota, Florida.

Taylor said Ashley attempted to obtain a domestic violence injunction in Florida, which would have barred her estranged husband from seeing their child.

O'Donnell argued, "This was a custody battle that this mother was going to win at all costs. The cost was the life of Doug Benefield, and that is murder."

A judge denied Ashley's request for a domestic injunction.

WTVT-TV reported that Doug was not aware that their child was born until a restraining order was filed against him.

On Sept. 27, 2020, Doug allegedly was helping Ashley pack her things for a move from her mother's Florida home to Maryland.

Ashley claimed that an argument erupted, Doug slapped her in the face, and she fled to the bedroom to retrieve a handgun.

She then testified that Doug blocked her from leaving the house and lunged at her. She claimed that at that moment she shot Doug.

“I thought he was going to kill me,” Ashley testified, according to the New York Post.

Ashely fired four rounds from her .45-caliber handgun.

Benefield’s next-door neighbor, John Sant, said Ashley ran to his house immediately after the shootings.

“As soon as I opened the door, before I could say anything, she said, ‘He attacked me,'” Sant told the court. “At that point, I said, ‘Who?’ She said, ‘Doug. ... He attacked me, and I shot him.”

During the "Black Swan" murder trial, Sant's 911 call was played for the jury. Throughout the call, you can hear Sant attempting to calm Benefield.

"She just came over, her estranged husband attacked her, and she said she shot him," Sant said in the 911 call, according to WTVT.

O’Donnell said there was no evidence that Ashley had been physically assaulted.

O’Donnell also said the fatal bullet that struck Doug entered through the side of his body, which she argued contradicts Ashley's testimony.

Detectives noted — in regard to where the victim was struck — it “does not appear that he was facing Ashley when she began shooting.”

Rachel Morin was reportedly found naked with head 'smashed in,' boyfriend addresses rumors by saying he has 'changed as a person'

A mother of five who was found dead on a Maryland hiking trail was naked and had her head bashed in, according to one of the first people who found the battered body of Rachel Morin.

The 37-year-old had reportedly gone for a hike around 6 p.m. on Saturday and was reported missing to police at 11:23 p.m. by her boyfriend.

The body of Morin was found around 1:07 p.m. on Sunday on the Ma and Pa Trail in Bel Air, Maryland.

Before Morin was found, Michael Gabriszeski went on the search along with his stepdaughter Cecilia, who was a friend of the slain mother.

Gabriszeski said he found "disturbances" on the trail near two drainage tunnels.

Gabriszeski told WBFF, "When I saw the tunnels, I got chills."

Cecilia allegedly was the first to find Morin's body near the drainage tunnels.

Cecilia was purportedly hyperventilating after discovering the body, and police advised her to sit down.

"When she sat down, she realized she was sitting in a big pool of blood," Gabriszeski said.

"There was a 15- to 20-foot blood trail," Gabriszeski told the Daily Mail. "So, it looked like she had been beaten and dragged into that position." He added, "I saw a terrible mess."

"She was laying on her back, fully naked, and she had brutal head trauma. ... It looked like her head had been smashed in with a rock," Gabriszeski stated.

Cecilia allegedly saw a big rock near the body "that was all caked in blood.”

Gabriszeski claimed that the right side of Morin's face "was gone," and he believed the killer was "trying to erase her identity."

Another source told the Daily Mail that Morin had suffered serious head trauma and the injuries were so severe that there would not be an open-casket funeral.

Rachel's sister, Rebekah Morin, wrote that the murdered mother "did not go willingly" and did not die "accidentally" on a GoFundMe campaign for the family.

The Harford County Sheriff’s Department has not revealed how Morin died, but did say she was murdered.

Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler said at a press conference on Wednesday, "I'm not going to go into what, physically, they observed at the scene. But investigators believe, sadly, that it’s a homicide case."

"There will be a time when I can share more," the sheriff said. "What I can tell you for sure is this was an intentional taking of a person’s life."

Gahler explained that a team of detectives, forensic investigators, and crime analysts have been "scouring every detail of the days, hours, minutes, and seconds before Rachel died in order to put together the pieces of a comprehensive timeline." The sheriff promised to solve the crime and "find the heinous coward who took Rachel Morin from her family and friends."

The sheriff noted the police department has received "more than 100 tips" from the public, including some that "have been promising."

Gahler said investigators have interviewed individuals in Rachel's "close inner circle," including her boyfriend.

The boyfriend, Richard Tobin, was the first person to report Morin missing, according to police.

Tobin responded to unfounded allegations and rumors that he was involved with Morin's death.

“I love Rachel, I would never do anything to her, let the family and I grieve. Yes I have a past but I also have 15 months clean and have changed as a person. Please,” Tobin wrote on Facebook on Sunday.

Fox News reported, "Tobin has prior arrests for malicious destruction of property, criminal second-degree assault, resisting arrest, drug possession, disorderly intoxication and violating restraining orders, according to Maryland court records."

Tobin went public with his relationship with Morin in a Facebook post on Aug. 1.

Police are asking that anyone with video from the hiking trail from last weekend or who has information about the apparent murder case to contact the Harford County Sheriff's Office.

Iranian woman who stabbed Las Vegas man during sex over Qasem Soleimani assassination uses prior rape to avoid jail time

A woman born in Iran avoided jail time this week despite stabbing a Las Vegas man during sex. The woman was set free after saying that the stabbing was motivated by a U.S. drone strike that killed an Iranian leader and a previous rape.

Nika Nikoubin was accused of stabbing a Las Vegas man whom she had met on the Plenty of Fish dating website. Police said the couple went to the Sunset Station hotel in Nevada in March 2020. Reports claim that the couple engaged in sexual activities when Nikoubin blindfolded Daniel Trevino. Nikoubin reached into her purse, pulled out a knife, and stabbed Trevino twice in the neck, according to court documents.

The 23-year-old University of Texas at Dallas student told police that the stabbing was revenge for the January 2020 assassination of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani outside Baghdad Airport ordered by former President Donald Trump. Nikoubin told police, "I mean the U.S. killed Soleimani. Lots of blood spilled. So, I feel like, it’s fair that American blood be spilled."

Nikoubin said during the trial that she "deeply regretted the pain and suffering" she put Trevino through.

Nikoubin told the Eighth Judicial District Court, "I would like him to know that my actions on the night of the incident had nothing to do with him, personally – he did not deserve what happened to him and I hope that this apology will aid in his healing journey."

Nikoubin added that her arrest was a "wake up call," and that if she was freed that she would "stay under the close supervision" of her parents, who are "committed to guiding me through this difficult time."

Nikoubin said, "I was raped when I was 18 years old by another student. At the time, I did not fully realize the impact that this experience had on me and my mental health deteriorated."

Nikoubin noted that she was in a mental health facility for 10 days before she arrived in Las Vegas and met Trevino.

"I was diagnosed with a number of disorders including severe depression, schizophrenia, and bi-polar disorder," Nikoubin said, according to KLAS-TV. "These diagnoses were deeply upsetting to me and, truthfully, I was in denial. While I was prescribed medication to treat my disorders, I initially struggled to properly follow my treatment regimen."

Trevino told the courtroom, "I've chosen to forgive, but whatever the law decides to do, that’s up to the law."

On Wednesday, Nikoubin avoided prison, and Judge Carli Kierny sentenced her to serve three years' probation.

How a robbery at a Bahamas bar exposed an alleged murder-for-hire plot on a former Auburn football player by ex-beauty queen and her secret lover

A Georgia ex-beauty queen has been arrested for allegedly plotting a murder-for-hire on her estranged husband along with her secret lover. The hitman plot to kill the former Auburn football player was only exposed after authorities discovered damning evidence while investigating a completely different crime committed at a beach bar in the Bahamas.

Lindsay Shiver, 36, conspired with her alleged secret lover, 28-year-old Terrance Bethel, to kill her estranged husband, Robert Shiver, according to Bahamas Court News. The former beauty pageant queen and mother-of-three reportedly devised a murder-for-hire plot with Bethel and 29-year-old Faron Newbold.

Bahamian police stumbled upon the murder plot while investigating a completely separate case. Earlier this month, local police were investigating a burglary at Grabber’s Bar and Grill in Great Guana Cay in the Bahamas.

Police reportedly discovered WhatsApp messages "detailing the plan" for the murder-for-hire plot on a cell phone belonging to a suspect in the beach bar break-in. Authorities did not reveal who owned the phone with the messages about the purported murder plan.

The Thomasville Times-Enterprise reported, "A source familiar with the investigation said the Shivers have a home in the Bahamas, where Lindsay first began an affair with Bethel. Upon Robert finding out about the affair, he filed for divorce."

Following the divorce filing, Lindsay, Bethel, and Newbold Jr. allegedly devised a plan to kill Robert Shiver during a meeting in Abaco, Bahamas.

"On July 16, 2023 at Abaco, while being together, did with a common purpose agree to commit an offense, namely the murder of Richard Shiver," the police report stated.

The trio were arrested in Abaco and transported to a jail in the country's capital of Nassau.

They are scheduled to return to court on Oct. 5.

Lindsay and Robert have three sons together.

Lindsay Shiver was previously a cheerleader at Auburn University – where she met Robert at a fitness class.

In 2005, Lindsay Shiver was crowned Miss Houston County and finished as the 2nd runner-up in the National Peanut Festival pageant, according to WTVY.

Robert Shiver was a snapper for the Auburn Tigers between 2006 and 2008. In 2009, Shiver signed with Atlanta Falcons as a free agent but was cut before the start of the NFL season.

Florida man accused of catching wife and coworker in bed together, bashing him with aluminum bat: 'Don’t come near my f***ing wife again!'

A Florida man battered his cheating wife's lover with an aluminum bat after catching them together in an Airbnb, according to police.

John Dimmig, 33, is accused of assaulting a man at an Airbnb rental in Lake Worth Beach, Florida. Dimmig is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and burglary with battery.

Dimmig’s wife, Christie Barbato, had known the coworker since January 2023. The coworker was reportedly visiting from Arizona, working as a "travel CT technician."

Barbato told investigators that she "had been laying down in bed in the bedroom of the apartment with her coworker" at around 10:00 p.m. on June 17.

The victim, who was not named, told investigators that "while he was in the bed with Barbato, he heard the front door of the residence open."

"[He] stated that he then got up to see who it was," the affidavit said, according to Law&Crime. "[The victim] stated that when he got to the living room, he saw a male running at him with a bat. [The victim] further advised that the male charged at him and pinned him to the ground and hit him three times with an aluminum bat.”

"Barbato stated that she heard the front door open, at which time she observed her husband, whom she identified as John Dimmig, enter the front door of the apartment with an aluminum bat," the affidavit read.

According to the affidavit, "Barbato stated that upon entering the apartment, Dimmig started swinging the bat at [the victim], whom she saw fall to the floor with blood coming from his head. Barbato stated that Dimmig did not say anything to either party before swinging the bat, but that afterwards he said something to the effect of ‘Don’t come near my f***ing wife again!’ before leaving the apartment through the front door.”

Barbato purportedly attempted to stop the fight and pulled Dimmig away from the victim.

"I felt like he was out to kill me,” the victim told deputies.

The New York Post reported, "Responding to a 911 call, deputies entered the Lake Worth Beach residence and found the living room spattered with blood."

Court documents state, "Upon arrival, I observed the living room of the apartment with covered in blood, with streaks leading into the bedroom located at the north part of the apartment. In the bedroom, I observed a white male, later identified [as the victim] laying on his back holding a towel on the top of his head, which was bleeding heavily."

There is reportedly video of Dimmig entering the Airbnb with a bat around 10 p.m.

The affidavit noted, "Moments later, screaming could be heard coming from inside the residence, with a female voice screaming, 'John! Stop! He’s bleeding!' The male can be heard screaming ‘Piece of s**t! F*** you!’ [and is then] seen leaving the residence and walking towards the road.”

Barbato reportedly informed police that her husband attacked the victim. Law enforcement allegedly tracked down Dimmig, and they found an aluminum bat and clothing that appeared to be stained with blood. Police allegedly found "small hairs" on the barrel of the bat. Deputies reportedly caught Dimmig loading two bags of clothes into his Hyundai Accent.

Dimmig, of Lake Worth, denied the allegations and pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 17

Deadly love triangle: Michigan woman accused of murdering 'best friend,' they had been brawling for days over the same man

A Michigan woman has been accused of murdering another woman involved in a deadly love triangle.

Around 4 a.m. on June 6, deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office responded to an assault call in the Village of Capac – approximately 50 miles north of Detroit. A male caller told the police dispatcher that an assault had happened earlier in the night, but a woman had been unconscious, according to officials.

Police said Raquelle Casillas, 44, had been fighting with another 44-year-old woman from Almont – who has yet to be identified. At the home, police found the male caller, a female suspect, and the unconscious woman.

Police found the unidentified woman lying on the floor, unconscious, but she was breathing. The woman was rushed to the McLaren Lapeer Hospital with severe head trauma. She was pronounced dead around 11:30 a.m. two days later.

The two women – who were reportedly involved in a romantic relationship with the same man – had been brawling against each other on and off for days, according to police.

Officers with the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office arrested Casillas.

Strangely, Casillas posted a photo of herself with the other woman on Facebook with the caption: "Best friends." Both women are seen smiling and have black eyes, cuts, and bruises. When asked about the injuries by a commenter on Facebook, Casillas responded, "We were fighting." She added, "I took her boyfriend."

The father of Casillas told the Daily Mail, "They'd been binge drinking for a while and I think that probably had something to do with it. It was definitely the alcohol. When she's not drinking she's a different person but she started drinking the past few years - well before the relationship started. They probably got along because they were all alcoholics."

Casillas, of Mussey Township, was charged with open murder.

Casillas was denied bail and is being held at the St. Clair County Detention and Intervention Center. Casillas is scheduled to return to court on June 20.

Love triangle gone bad: Miami cop and pregnant woman allegedly beat up Florida man for cheating

A Miami police officer and a pregnant woman were arrested after allegedly beating up their boyfriend in an apparent love triangle turned violent. The dustup reportedly was ignited when the women discovered that the man had been unfaithful to them.

Miami-Dade Police Officer Anna Elicia Perez, 34, and Mila Zuloaga, 35, were both arrested on May 26 and booked into jail. The off-duty cop and pregnant woman are accused of battering a Florida man for allegedly cheating on them both.

Around midnight last Friday, the jilted women reportedly confronted the man at Miller's Ale House in Palmetto Bay, Florida. Perez and Zuloaga allegedly engaged in a verbal dispute with the unidentified man "regarding infidelity," which quickly escalated into a physical altercation.

According to WTVJ, "Both women hit the man in his face and upper body with their hands multiple times, leaving him with redness on his face and a bruised lower lip, the reports said."

Zuloaga was transported to the Miami-Dade Police Department’s Special Victims Bureau, while Perez was taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Perez confessed to police that she had "pushed and hit the victim multiple times," according to CBS News.

It was unclear whether the women conspired to confront the man or it was a coincidental encounter.

Zuloaga is purportedly seven months pregnant with the man's child and lives with him. The victim is reportedly also in a romantic relationship with Perez.

Miami-Dade Police Director Alfredo Ramirez said an investigation into the incident would be conducted.

Ramirez said in a statement, "I am disappointed by this officer’s actions. We are held to a higher standard of conduct on and off duty. Although this officer was off duty, her behavior was unacceptable and it goes against the core values of our department. We will work closely with the State Attorney’s Office and ensure a thorough and transparent investigation."

Perez has been placed on leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation by the State Attorney’s Office.

Former NFL player stabbed, bludgeoned, strangled ex-girlfriend before lighting her on fire and dumping body in a ditch: Court documents

A former NFL player stabbed, bludgeoned, and strangled his ex-girlfriend, then burned her body and dumped the corpse in a ditch, according to newly-released court documents.

On July 28, Harris County District Attorney's Office announced that Kevin Ware Jr. – a former tight end for the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders – was charged with murder and tampering with a corpse for the death of Taylor Pomaski.

Pomaski, 29, went missing on April 25, 2021, after a party at her Texas home.

Pomaski's family grew suspicious when Taylor didn't talk to them on Mother's Day.

Stephen Pomaski – Taylor's father – told KTRK-TV, "It kind of hit us early in the day. We haven't heard from her in a week and a half, two weeks at this point."

In December 2021, a body was discovered in a ditch in northern Harris County in Texas – which encompasses Houston. The corpse was so damaged that it took until April 29, 2022, to identify the skeletal remains as Taylor Pomaski.

Court documents say Ware cut Pomaski with a knife, strangled her, beat her with a blunt object, and then burned her corpse.

The Houston Chronicle reported, "Investigators believe a former NFL athlete killed his girlfriend in 2021 by stabbing, hitting and strangling her before dumping her body in a north Harris County ditch, according to newly-available court records."

The outlet added, "The investigation revealed that Ware used a fourth, unknown way to cause Pomaski's death but that could not be determined before a grand jury."

The toxicology report and the primary cause of death in the crime have yet to be released by the medical examiner.

In June 2021, Ware was arrested by U.S. Marshals for reported bond violations stemming from a 2019 arrest that happened less than a week before Pomaski's disappearance.

In April 2019, Ware was allegedly pulled over for speeding 115 mph and caught with a loaded AK-47 and handgun, plus cocaine and marijuana along with methamphetamines, according to the Montgomery County Police Reporter. The former football player was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawfully possessing a firearm as a felon a third-degree felony.

Ware was transferred to the Harris County Jail on Wednesday. His next hearing on the murder charge is scheduled for Sept. 26. Ware, 42, faces 15 years to life if convicted.

Oklahoma woman gets life in prison for convincing lover to murder her pastor husband who they had threesomes with

An Oklahoma woman was sentenced to life in prison for her role in convincing her lover to murder her pastor husband. The woman claims that her pastor husband put her through decades of sexual and emotional abuse.

Kristie Evans, 49, was sentenced to life in prison on Wednesday by Pontotoc County District Judge Steven Kessinger. Evans will be eligible for parole in 2060.

Evans claimed that her husband, Pastor David Evans, would often "pressure" her into having threesome sex with other men. She alleged that the couple had sexual relations with 50 to 100 men.

In January 2021, the couple started having numerous threesomes with Kahlil Square. Kristie and Square had an affair behind David's back.

“Kristie and David first met Kahlil months ago at a Super 8 Motel,” the affidavit states. The trio had sex at the Super 8 Motel on more than one occasion. One time, “Kristie secretly dropped her phone number on the floor for Kahlil. Kristine continued to communicate by phone daily with Kahlil without David’s knowledge."

She testified that she begged Square to kill David – a 50-year-old Baptist pastor at the Harmony Church in Ada.

"I was desperate," she told the court. "I wanted to be free from that. I knew of no other way."

Judge Kessinger said Evans planned the murder, gave Square a gun, and a box of bullets, and left the backdoor of her home open for him to enter.

On March 22, 2021, Square entered the home while David was sleeping in his bed and fatally shot the pastor in the head. David had just returned from a mission trip to Mexico.

Kristie claimed that as her husband was dying, she said, "I held his hand and told him I was sorry."

The wife called 911 around 1 a.m., and alleged that an intruder had broken into her home and murdered her husband.

Neighbors informed investigators that a white Ford Mustang had been at the house in the days leading up to the murder when David was in Mexico.

When questioned about the vehicle, Evans admitted to authorities that she had been cheating on her husband with Square.

"Four days later, she confessed to her daughter, Brittney Long, that she had 'begged' her lover to kill her father. She then went to the police and turned herself in," the Daily Mail reported.

She told authorities that she urged Square to "proceed with the plan" when he arrived at the house and she stayed in the living room while her lover went to the bedroom and shot her husband to death, according to the affidavit.

Evans pleaded guilty to murder in the first degree in April.

Evans told the judge she was remorseful for her deadly actions and begged for a lenient sentence.

However, Judge Kessinger pointed to a letter Evans sent to another prison inmate.

“I could wear a man out,” Evans reportedly wrote the other inmate. “Any man would have done it for me after I got through with him.”

Kessinger said the “pornographic” letter showed a lack of remorse.

The prosecutor conceded the pastor was secretly a "dark, dark individual," but stressed it was no reason for murder. The prosecutor asserted that Kristie Evans had her husband murdered to get his $250,000 life insurance policy.

The case against Square is ongoing, and his next court date is Aug. 25.
