Jan. 6 committee will reportedly vote on whether to recommend criminal charges against Trump

The House select committee probing the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot could potentially urge the Justice Department to pursue criminal charges against former President Donald Trump. The Associated Press, citing an unnamed individual acquainted with the issue, reported that the panel is mulling recommending charges of insurrection, obstructing an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the U.S.

Politico reported that the body is gearing up to vote on whether to call upon the DOJ to target Trump with at least three criminal charges — the outlet, citing two unnamed sources, indicated that the report the panel is anticipated to weigh on Monday reflects some suggestions from a subcommittee that considered possible criminal referrals. Politico indicated that the subcommittee's recommended charges include insurrection, obstruction of an official proceeding, and conspiracy to defraud the government.

The New York Times noted that any referrals against Trump from the committee would not bear any legal authority or obligate the DOJ to pursue any actions.

"The January 6th un-Select Committee held show trials by Never Trump partisans who are a stain on this country's history," Trump spokesperson Steven Cheung noted in a statement," according to the Politico. "This Kangaroo court has been nothing more than a Hollywood executive’s vanity documentary project that insults Americans’ intelligence and makes a mockery of our democracy."

Trump, who lost his 2020 reelection bid to Democratic challenger Joe Biden, announced last month that he is running for president again during the 2024 cycle.

A group of House Democrats is pushing legislation to block Trump from ever holding office again.

"The 14th Amendment makes clear that based on his past behavior, Donald Trump is disqualified from ever holding federal office again and, under Section 5, Congress has the power to pass legislation to implement this prohibition," Democratic Rep. David Cicilline of Rhode Island said, according to a press release about the legislation.

Suspect who brutally beat 75-year-old vet till he bled from his head will not face criminal charges

The 22-year-old suspect who recorded himself repeatedly striking a 75-year-old vet in the head will not face criminal charges in connection with the attack.

What are the details?

Authorities say Jadon Hayden pummeled Norman Bledsoe while the two shared a room at the Westwood Nursing Center in Detroit, Michigan, in 2020. Hayden also reportedly recorded the attack.

According to a report from WXYZ-TV, Hayden — who is said to have diagnoses of both autism and schizophrenia — pummeled Bledsoe, beating him until he bled from his head.

In the graphic video, Hayden said, "See this b**** a** n**** here? Get the f*** off my bed, n**** ... F*** wrong with you?" The video made waves across the internet at the time, prompting the Detroit Police Department to launch an investigation into the attack.

Authorities soon arrested Hayden in connection with the vicious incident and charged him with two counts of assault with the intent to do great bodily harm. The charges against Hayden were ultimately dismissed after a judge found him incompetent to stand trial. Bledsoe passed away two months after the attack, having been transferred to another nursing facility. Details on the cause of Bledsoe's death were not released at the time.

Hayden's father, Marty, said that his son was living in a group home prior to contracting COVID-19 in 2020 and was moved to an area nursing home to recuperate.

"He was in crisis mode," Marty said and added that he can't imagine why the facility would house his son an elderly man like Bledsoe. “They dropped the ball. Why would they put my child in a nursing home? All around elderly people?”

Hayden's attorney said that health care administrators never should have placed the suspect in a room with the elderly vet.

“I think the facility had an idea of who Jadon was and what type of treatment he needed,” Hayden's attorney told the station. “I think they knew or had a history that he was schizophrenic and it should have been handled differently.”

Hayden is now living in a psychiatric hospital in the Kalamazoo area of Michigan.

Four women accept men's offer of ride home from a beach club. They're lucky to be alive after the men reportedly set their Jeep on fire and shoot at their beach house.

Maryland authorities arrested two men on criminal charges after the pair offered to drive a group of women home from a beach club.

Police say that the suspects reportedly followed the unnamed women home, set a vehicle on their property ablaze, and shot at the residence at least six times.

What are the details?

Authorities say that the men — identified as 33-year-old Andre J. Blakeney of Waldorf, Maryland, and 27-year-old Finis A. Miles of Clinton, Maryland — approached the women outside of Seacrets in Ocean City, Maryland, on Saturday morning.

The group of women were reportedly waiting for an Uber to pick them up and transport them to a home in which they were staying just across the state line in Fenwick Island, Delaware.

The women say that they took the ride, but began to feel uncomfortable during the six-mile drive from the club to the residence.

Master Corporal Gary Fournier of the Delaware State Police said that the women requested to get out of the vehicle before they reached their home.

"A discussion about paying for the ride ensued, and one of the victims paid the driver $35," Fournier said. "The four women then went to an undisclosed location prior to going to their house for fear they might have been followed. After feeling it was safe to go into their house, they heard someone talking outside and saw the male passenger from the vehicle walking up to the front door. Soon after, they heard some type of banging on the side of the house by an unknown object. Police later detained they were gunshots; none of the victims were injured."

The women immediately phoned authorities and reported the suspicious activity outside of the home.

When a Fenwick Island police officer arrived at the scene, he discovered a Jeep Wrangler that had reportedly been set on fire.

The Cape Gazette reports that as the officer and women put out the fire, they noticed that the home's front window was shattered and that there were bullet holes in the home's siding. Authorities also found six of what they believed to be handgun casings littered in the roadway outside of the home.

Both Blakeney and Miles will also be extradited from Maryland to face charges in Delaware for second-degree arson and second-degree conspiracy.

A neighbor told WBOC-TV that she couldn't believe no one was hurt during the early morning shooting.

"Anybody could've been hurt. It wasn't just one gunshot, it was several," the unidentified neighbor said. "It's upsetting and scary. A lot of us have bedrooms right on the street, in the forward part of the house. Anyone could've been hurt."

VIDEO: Fight breaks out during Little League championship game as adults scream profanities at each other

A disturbing fight erupted between adults at a Little League championship game Monday night in Kentucky, and some people may face charges.

What are the details?

Parents and coaches squared off during the championship game in eastern Kentucky, according to a Tuesday report from the Lexington Herald-Leader. Now some people involved in the incident could face criminal charges. Video of the incident quickly went viral on the internet.

In a video obtained by WKYT-TV, one unidentified male can be seen throwing his hat on the ground while shouting at other people as a second unidentified male rushes the group, takes off his shirt, and begins shoving people.

According to the outlet, Facebook user Destani Renaye Knox shared video of the fight to her social media page, captioning it, "It's really sad these kids that played hard all season and put their hearts on that field didn't get to finish their championship game because 'adults' wanted to act like this."

(Content warning: Rough language):

The outlet identified one of the teams' coaches as Jimmy Smith, who insisted that he did not take part in the fracas.

"I never touched anyone," Smith said in a post on the incident, according to the outlet. "Yes, I was upset over a bad call, but I would never fistfight anyone in front of kids! I will stand up for my team 10/10 times, and you tell me one coach who wouldn't?!?!"

If you're gonna post videos and call me a POS Coach, why don't you show the whole video or tell the entire story! I never touched anyone. Yes, I was upset over a bad call, but I would never fistfight anyone in front of kids! I will stand up for my team 10/10 times, and you tell me one coach who wouldn't?!?! And in this video, I specifically said he dropped the ball while their parents were heckling me!

So I guess the other team didn't like me disputing the call and their coach threw his hat at another coach on my team, and then he got in my face! So get your facts straight!!! There's a video that shows the beginning of the whole incident so hold tight before you bash me because he clearly came at me along with another coach!

And to another post about me only being worried about winning a plastic trophy, well, I could care less about a $5 piece of plastic so take your post, comments, and agenda fitting videos elsewhere! You will not ruin my love for coaching these kids!!! 9/10 most parents and coaches cannot stand playing against this said individual because it's his way or no way, and if he becomes the president of the baseball league, I know several in this county that will not play baseball in the little league program!!!!

GO RANGERS!!!! I LOVE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF MY KIDDOS AND THEY PLAYED GREAT!!!

Steve Randall, which the outlet identified as the coach of the other team, also tagged Smith in a Facebook post and said that the two needed to meet up and work things out.

"Jimmy Smith, you wanna make this right?" he wrote in the post. "At this point all I care about is getting these kids what they deserve. You call me tomorrow and let's schedule a time we can have both teams at the field and hand them their deserved trophy. What you did was wrong, what I did was wrong and it was a disservice to the kids. We name the Rangers and Reds co-champions and be done with it. You go your way I'll go mine. I will be waiting for your phone call tomorrow."

Randall told the outlet that he had yet to hear from Smith as of noon Tuesday.

“It needs to be made right for the kids," he insisted.

Later Tuesday afternoon, Smith took to his Facebook page to issue an apology for raising his voice.

"I want to start by apologizing for raising my voice and disputing a call at last night's game," he wrote. "I accept full responsibility for my actions, and it doesn't represent the love that I have for coaching the kids in our community. To hear people calling me the things they were calling me last night really hurts because, without a doubt, I love all of these kids and enjoy every moment coaching them!"

"Secondly, how about my Rangers!" he gushed. "They came to play last night, and the energy they possessed was top-notch for their age! I'm so proud of all of you, and I love each one of you all!!!! Also, I want to thank all of my coaches and parents for all of your help and support during this season! Without you all, this never happens, and I truly appreciate each one of you! Lastly, I hope there can be an award ceremony for both teams. I'm done with all the negative comments. I'm not going through comments or any tags. I'm man enough to admit I made a mistake last night and share half the blame, and I will gladly shake hands and squash this whole ordeal. GO RANGERS!!!!"

What else?

In a statement, Stanton Police Sgt. Ian Morton said that police are still looking to interview witnesses of the incident, calling it a "dispute between adults.'

“We're going to speak to everybody that we can, and if the (Powell) county attorney recommends charges, that's what we'll do," he told the outlet.

Stanton Parks and Recreation stated that it will work to determine whether administrative penalties will be assessed as a result of the brawl as it took place in a public park.

“Children's sports leagues are meant to be fun activities where children can feel safe while learning a sport ... but more importantly learn good sportsmanship," the department said in a statement. “The display tonight was anything but that."

McConnell blasts 'disgraceful' Trump, hints at criminal prosecution: 'Didn't get away with anything yet'

After the Senate voted on Saturday to acquit former President Donald Trump in his second impeachment trial, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) tore into Trump.

McConnell, who voted to acquit Trump of charges of "incitement of insurrection," unequivocally blamed Trump for the deadly violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6., saying Trump is certainly guilty of a "disgraceful dereliction of duty."

"There's no question — none — that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of [Jan. 6]," McConnell said.

"The people who stormed this building believed they were acting on the wishes and instructions of their president," McConnell added, which he called a "foreseeable consequence of the growing crescendo" of Trump's "false statements, conspiracy theories, and reckless hyperbole."

As TheBlaze reported, McConnell had already announced that he would vote to acquit Trump.

The Kentucky Republican explained afterward that he voted "not guilty" based on jurisdictional considerations, meaning he did not believe the Constitution permitted the Senate to exercise its impeachment powers against a private citizen, despite Trump being formally impeached by the House while he was still in office.

In fact, McConnell said Article 2, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution makes Trump "not eligible for conviction."

However, McConnell conceded that he would have "carefully considered" the impeachment charge if Trump were still in office.

Criminally liable?

Toward the end of his speech, McConnell said that "by the strict criminal standard," Trump is "probably not" guilty of incitement of violence.

However, McConnell made it clear that Trump has not been criminally absolved.

"President Trump is still liable for everything he did while he's in office, as an ordinary citizen, unless the statute of limitations has run," McConnell said.

"He didn't get away with anything — yet, yet," McConnell added. "We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation, and former presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one."

Thus far, no criminal action has been initiated against Trump related to the Capitol riots.

However, Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has launched a criminal probe into Trump over his alleged attempts to "overturn Georgia's election results," NPR reported, which stems from a call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger (R).
