Gov. Hochul suddenly eager to help deport criminal illegal aliens — but wants to keep other migrants in New York

Democrat Gov. Kathy Hochul of New York suddenly seems eager to help deport criminal illegal aliens under a second Trump administration but wants to help other migrants in her state stay put.

On Tuesday, Hochul held a press conference in Queens, where she was asked about the deportations President-elect Donald Trump has promised to conduct after taking office next month. In her response, Hochul pledged to be "the first to call ICE" on illegal aliens who commit other crimes.

"If someone breaks the law, I’ll be the first one to call up ICE and say, 'Get them out of here,'" she said.

"There are other people who commit crimes or are known to be criminals before they arrived here. When those are identified, I'll be the first one to help get rid of them," Hochul added. "I don't want them here. I don't want anybody terrorizing my citizens."

Assembly member Catalina Cruz ... a 'formerly undocumented' immigrant, rushed to Hochul's defense, insisting that Hochul really is a friend to illegal immigrants — or, as Cruz called them, 'law-abiding undocumented Americans.'

Though she spoke emphatically about the need to deport illegal aliens who broke the law to steal into the U.S. and then went on to commit other crimes, she switched to a more conciliatory tone when discussing other migrant groups living in New York. She noted the "difference in categories of individuals" and expressed interest in helping those granted Temporary Protected Status and those "with legal papers, like they came and they’re seeking asylum."

"I want them to get the proper work permits. I want them to keep their temporary protective status if that’s what they have. I want to make sure that they’re part of — contributing to society while they’re here," she explained, according to the National News Desk. "That’s separate from people who are criminals."

"Those who come here legally — we want to get them jobs. I have 460,000 open jobs in the State of New York."

Many New York activists and Democrats were shocked by Hochul's rhetoric regarding illegal immigrants.

Murad Awawdeh, president and CEO of the New York Immigration Coalition, begged Hochul not to assist with Trump's "dangerous games." "Now more than ever we need leadership from Albany," he said. "We need New York’s elected officials to stand up for and defend all of our immigrant neighbors."

Assembly member Catalina Cruz, whom City & State New York described as a "formerly undocumented" immigrant, rushed to Hochul's defense, insisting that Hochul really is a friend to illegal immigrants — or, as Cruz called them, "law-abiding undocumented Americans."

"Given the work my office has done with this administration, I have no doubt that these statements lacked context and dimension," Cruz said in Hochul's defense. "I know that she will remain dedicated to advancing the goal of assisting those individuals and families that have come to New York with hopes and dreams of a better life for themselves and their families."

In the last several years, some 200,000 so-called "asylum-seekers" have moved to New York, and City & State New York reported that as of July, as many as 875,000 total "unauthorized" persons may be living there.

Citing the Institution on Taxation and Economic Policy, City & State New York claimed that the "undocumented" immigrants living in New York are "contributing to the state’s economy." However, the outlet made no mention of the billions of taxpayer dollars spent on housing and feeding them.

Millions of illegal aliens, including convicted criminals, to be issued California state IDs

Not only will California likely have illegal aliens soon serving as police officers, it will now be the first state in the union to allow criminal non-citizens to obtain a non-licensed, standard identification card. Passed by the California state assembly on August 30, the so-called "California ID for All" bill (AB 1766) was signed into law on Friday by Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Newsom's office touted the move as a "critical step for inclusion." He stated that California is "a state of refuge – a majority-minority state, where 27 percent of us are immigrants." He suggested further that the conferring of IDs by the Department of Motor Vehicles to criminal non-citizens will help make the state stronger.

Democrat Assemblyman Mark Stone (D), who introduced the bill, claimed that it would bring "equity to those who have been unable to access basic life essentials because they have no legally recognized identification."

Illegal alien drivers have been able to acquire licenses since 2015. Over 1 million of the estimated 2.7 million illegal aliens living in California have done so already, according to the California Immigrant Policy Center (CIPC). That leaves approximately "1.6 million undocumented people who are eligible and could benefit from having a state government-issued identification card."

Although non-drivers who are in the country illegally could alternatively use "a consult ID or foreign passport to corroborate their identities," the CIPC claimed that doing so "is an often dangerous 'outing' process ... hence making them feel unsafe and vulnerable in revealing that they are foreign nationals living in the U.S."

This law specifies that the enforcement of federal immigration laws "does not constitute an urgent health and safety need," so indications on the license that the holder is an illegal alien will henceforth be omitted. Any documents used to acquire the ID will not be made public record.

The CIPC tweeted that the ability for criminal non-citizens to "access social services, healthcare, to rent, & to feel included as a member of our society" will be "life-changing."

“BREAKING: @CAGovernor just signed #AB1766 (CA #IDs4All bill) which would allow all Californians to apply for a state ID regardless of immigration status! This will benefit 1.6 million undocumented Californians, who currently cannot obtain a CA driver’s license. (1/4) 🧵”

Assemblyman Robert Rivas (D) claimed that this "legislation moves us one step closer to true equity for our undocumented neighbors."

To obtain a Mexican driver's license, by way of comparison, an applicant must provide a copy of his visa confirming legal status, his international passport, his birth certificate, and proof of address in the country.

According to Assemblyman Stone's office, those incarcerated illegal aliens who were previously unable to acquire driver's licenses "because they cannot access a driving test in prison" will also now be able to acquire ID cards.

New perks for non-driver illegal aliens

With their state IDs, non-driver illegal aliens will be able to:

 • gain "improved access" to in-state tuition at taxpayer-funded public colleges and universities as well as to student loans;
 • open bank accounts;
 • access health care and citizen benefits; and
 • receive more "legal assistance in civil matters affecting basic human needs."

Additionally, with these IDs, foreign nationals who have illegally entered the U.S. and become street vendors will now be able to easily acquire local health permits and therefore better compete against citizen-owned businesses.

With 2,150,639 illegal aliens having stolen into the country so far this year, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo suggested this law will only exacerbate the border crisis.

“Giving illegal immigrants government IDs is a bad idea. It will make the border crisis worse.

https://t.co/d9e7wqs72j”
— Mike Pompeo (@Mike Pompeo) 1664207153

Richard Grenell, former acting director of National Intelligence, wrote that Gavin Newsom "should be worried about illegals voting with the IDs he is giving them."

In 2018, there was some question whether thousands of illegal aliens had been enabled to vote in California as a result of the automatic voter registration of DMV driver's license recipients.

Former Rep. Jason Chaffetz suggested last year that Democrats stand to benefit from what "California does – automatically register everyone who gets a driver's license to vote, then do nothing to weed out the votes of illegal immigrants."

The enactment of this law comes just weeks after voters in Massachusetts secured an opportunity in the November elections to end their state law permitting illegal aliens to receive licenses.

Twice-deported illegal alien sentenced in murder of 6-year-old girl

On September 9, the 56-year-old Mexican national Maximino Delgado Lagunas was sentenced to 15 years to life for murdering a 6-year-old Orange County girl. Lagunas was found guilty of one felony count of second-degree murder on June 22.

Despite having been convicted in 2015 for drunk driving, on February 17, 2018, Lagunas got behind the wheel with a blood alcohol level nearly three times California's legal limit of 0.8%. Around 2:15 p.m., Lagunas drove onto the opposite sidewalk where Grace Aguilar was playing.

Lagunas, a twice-deported illegal alien, ran Grace Aguilar down and then smashed into a parked vehicle.

The child died of her injuries.

Lagunas, whose blood alcohol was reportedly .22%, told police that his brakes were not working and that he had lost control of his vehicle.

While he would otherwise have faced voluntary manslaughter charges, his prior conviction enabled prosecutors to upgrade the charges to second-degree murder.

KCOP13 reported that this upgrade was made possible by Lagunas' signing of a Watson advisement in 2015. A Watson advisement is a statement that an individual convicted with a DUI can be asked to sign, indicating foreknowledge that drunk driving can kill or injure people.

Orange County district attorney Todd Spitzer stated in a Friday release: "A six-year-old girl is dead because someone who had already been warned about the dangers of drinking and driving ignored those warnings and got behind the wheel drunk. Every time someone drives under the influence of drugs or alcohol, they take the risk that they could kill someone." Spitzer noted further, "This time it was a six-year-old girl named Grace who was just playing on the sidewalk."

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement told KNBC that Lagunas had been deported in 2001 and again in 2008.

After his 2015 DUI conviction, Lagunas was placed on informal probation and set free, even though requirements stipulate that he was supposed to have been detained 48 hours for pickup by immigration officials.

Lagunas was not the only illegal alien caught driving drunk in 2018.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection, there were 1,113 criminal non-citizens convicted of driving under the influence in 2018.

In 2019, the number of convictions fell to 614, and the number dropped again in 2020 to 364. However, in 2021 there were 1,629 DUI convictions. So far in 2022, there have already been 1,241 illegal aliens convicted of driving while intoxicated.

Convictions only tell a partial story. There is also the matter of the Americans maimed or killed by criminal non-citizens.

Earlier this year, illegal alien Jose Virgilio Carcamo Elvir left a 72-year-old Florida man dead and three others injured in a drunk-driving crash.

In January, illegal alien Jarol Leiva-Navarro killed a 32-year-old American while reportedly drunkenly driving 110 miles per hour.

In March 2021, an illegal alien named Rolbin Pacheco killed Cheston Edwards, a North Carolina father of two, while driving drunk.

A 5-year-old girl was killed in a Florida hit-and-run last October when an intoxicated illegal alien was speeding at night without his lights on.

Three members of the Thin Blue Line police motorcycle club were killed outside San Antonio in July 2020 when a DACA-protected illegal alien with a lengthy criminal record drunkenly ran them down.

Horowitz: The massive invasion and human rights violations ... at our own border harming our communities

We have the wealthiest, most sophisticated and brutal cartels at our border who surveil our side of the border with cutting-edge technology and bring over millions of impoverished aliens, thousands of dangerous criminals and gang members, and drugs killing over 100,000 Americans a year. Perhaps if we renamed Texas or Arizona “Ukraine,” we’d get Republicans to finally care about the issue.

It’s not that Putin hasn’t violated human rights and invaded a sovereign nation. It’s that the testosterone levels of GOP politicians go from 0 to 100 instantaneously when discussing the sovereignty of every nation but our own. Our government continues to refuse to release this year’s ICE immigration enforcement report, but the preliminary numbers paint a shocking picture.

NEW: Prelim ICE data shows a massive drop in deportations in FY ‘21 compared to previous years, despite much higher encounters.

FY 21: 55,590 deportations
1.7 million encounters

FY 20: 185,884 deportations
458,000 encounters

FY 19: 267,258 deportations
977,000 encounters

BREAKING: In a federal court filing obtained by @FoxNews, DHS reports 153,941 migrant encounters in January, almost doubling Jan. ‘21 (78,414) and more than quadruple Jan. ‘20 (36,585).
DHS also reports 62,573 migrants were released into U.S. just last month alone. @FoxNewspic.twitter.com/RiEPKVsQi3

We are on pace for roughly 700,000 illegal aliens to be released into our country in one year. Moreover, this open invitation has allowed the cartels to strategically distract our agents with babysitting while smuggling in thousands of people who are even more problematic. Consider the magnitude of Biden’s invitation to invade America. Look at the percentage increase in Border Patrol apprehensions of categories of criminals since Biden took office:

Notice the jump in apprehensions of convicted murderers and sex offenders. Now consider the fact that those people pay the cartels a significant sum of money to be strategically and surreptitiously crossed. Given their successful business model, it’s hard to imagine CBP apprehending more than a tiny fraction of these dangerous criminals. Every boatload of fake refugees our agents are forced to deal with is a strategic ploy for the cartels to cross over dangerous individuals. That is an invasion.

We will never know the full scope of the number of dangerous criminals who enter our country, but we can begin to quantify how much it affects our safety by looking back during the Trump administration when they were still apprehending them inside our country. If you go back to FY 2018, ICE apprehended criminal aliens who together racked up 542,798 criminal convictions and arrests. The numbers include 2,028 homicide offenses, 5,562 robberies, 11,766 weapons offenses, 50,753 assault charges, 76,585 dangerous drug charges, 80,730 DUIs, and over 12,000 sexual offenses.

Just ponder for a moment the immeasurable carnage caused by our senseless disregard for sovereignty and the number of nameless victims the media will never spotlight. This data doesn’t include those criminal charge categories that had fewer than 1,000. Only 29% of those were unconvicted charges, which likely means that the main focus of ICE removal operations, understandably so, is on convictions because they focus on the prisons and jails. Which means there are likely many more arrested for crimes who are not apprehended by ICE.

Also, keep in mind that ICE only has fewer than 6,000 deportation officers, a fraction of the size of the NYPD, and the largest number of illegal aliens live in sanctuary cities, which made it difficult for ICE to catch the largest number of criminal aliens.

As of the most recent ICE report, there were 3.26 million aliens under ICE's undetained docket. These are individuals who have been targeted by ICE for removal, which most likely means the overwhelming majority have criminal records in addition to immigration violations. That means over 3 million criminal aliens who were dangerous enough to be on ICE's radar remain in the country indefinitely without being deported.

As of 2018, there were more than 1 million illegal aliens who have already received final deportation orders, with another 1.5 million having already received deportation orders but who are in the process of seeking an appeal.

Even if we focused solely on the bad guys, we lack the resources to make a dent. As early as 2013, DHS estimated, based on ICE programs in local jails, that there were 1.9 million criminal aliens in this country and that 900,000 aliens were arrested every year. Chillingly, the report noted that "550,000 criminal aliens convicted of crimes exit law enforcement custody every year" and that "this population of criminal aliens poses a major threat to public safety."

Now consider the fact that this is all old data and preceded the worst border invasion in our history. Just since fiscal year 2018, we’ve apprehended 3.7 million at the border, of whom undoubtedly most were released and many more never recorded got away from agents. While we often complain that all illegal crime is avoidable and that not enough criminals are deported, we have still deported from the interior and at the border 1.8 million criminal aliens from 2007 to 2018. Can you imagine how many of them likely took advantage of the invasion of the past few years, paid the cartels enormous sums of money, re-entered our country and communities, and enriched these vicious cartels at the same time so they can more effectively control, surveil, and manipulate both sides of our border?

Nobody has ever endeavored to fully quantify the magnitude of crime, chaos, fiscal cost, and drugs and gangs in our cities as a result of this. It is astounding that we don’t try to ascertain the citizenship of every individual arrested, but back when ICE was still doing good work, they divulged some numbers in New York City from among those they lodged detainers against. In FY 2019, ICE’s New York bureau field office lodged 7,526 detainers for foreign criminals who racked up 17,873 criminal convictions and 6,500 criminal charges. The offenses included among those crimes were 200 homicides, over 500 robberies, over 1,000 sexual offenses, over 1,000 weapons offenses, over 3,500 assaults, and over 1,500 DUIs.

At the time, I noted the 200 homicides are astounding because there were only about 300 murders per year at the time. Not all of those homicides were committed in one year, but for ICE to have definitively identified aliens with 200 murder convictions or charges in just one year’s worth of detainers is simply astonishing.

Which brings us back to the border and the broader lack of prioritization of geopolitical threats by our political class. In January, Todd Bensman reported live from the Mexico-Guatemala border that the U.N. was handing out cash assistance to encourage migrants to invade our border. It’s this invasion that is facilitating unconscionable amounts of crime, drugs, sex trafficking, and gang and cartel activity at our border and in every major American city. Ranchers on our own soil live and work in constant fear. It’s hard to conjure up a greater, more comprehensive systemic threat to our sovereignty, security, culture, and human rights than the policies facilitating the border invasion.

While the media whips everyone into a frenzy over a foreign country over which we have little control and few options, they will never tell what is occurring at our own border. For GOP politicians to only care about what the media tells them to while ignoring the plight of our own people is a violation of their oaths of office.
